Myron Y. Erb
LAUREL - Myron Y. Erb, 87, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Evergreen Care Center in Laurel.
Myron Y. Erb was born in Laurel on Dec. 4, 1910, to Abraham and Carrie Erb in the house at 110 4th Ave. Myron graduated from Laurel High School in 1931. In his youth, Myron worked on family farms and ranches in the Huntley area.

He was a charter member of the Billings Motorcycle Cabin Club and competed in the earliest Great American Hillclimbs, winning two state championships. In 1934, he began working at Smith's Vulcanizing Shop which later became Smith's Super Service. Myron married Isabel Mae Clark on Aug. 24, 1936. After working as a welder in Seattle and Alaska during WWII, selling auto parts, and owning the Town Pump in Livingston, Myron and his family returned to Laurel. He purchased Smith's Super Service and continued the business as a car dealership and service station until 1974.

Myron was an active member of the Laurel community, serving as President of the Laurel Chamber of Commerce, participating in the Al Bedoo Shrine and Arab Patrol, and maintaining memberships in Corinthian Lodge #72 and the Elks. He enjoyed the outdoors, traveling and spending time with his family. Myron was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Myron is survived by his wife, Isabel Erb, daughter, Shirley Ann Hill, and son, Larry Erb, all of Laurel. Other survivors include his sister, Mildred Zwisler of Wenatchee, Wash., two grandsons, two granddaughters, numerous nieces and nephews, and three great-grandsons.

Memorials are being accepted and can be made to the Shrine Transportation Fund at: P.O. Box 20673; Billings, Mont. 59104. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 7, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Graveside services will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the Laurel cemetery.

Mary Gertrude Bracha
RYEGATE - Mary Gertrude Bracha, 90, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Wheatland Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home, Harlowton, of natural causes.
She was born in Cross Plains, S.D., on Feb. 11, 1908, to Josep and Rosa Anna (Konkaka) Erlacher. She attended school in Dimock, S.D. She was united in marriage to Steve M. Bracha on April 23, 1925, in Tyndall, S.D. They owned and operated the Bracha Light & Power in Mission, S.D. They moved from Milltown, S.D., to Ryegate in 1957. Mary was a homemaker and the mother of six children. Whenever there was a fire in the Ryegate area Mary was the one to ring the fire bell.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Old Time Fiddlers District #2. Mary enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers, going fishing, playing the piano, banjo, guitar and accordion. She also loved her flowers and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve on July 6, 1974.

Survivors include three sons: Earl and John Bracha both of Ryegate, Joseph Bracha of Gordon, Neb.; three daughters: Margaret Williams of Helena, Sharleen Fahshultz of Kennewick, Wash., Viola Clark of Helena; two sisters: Anne Weiss of Parkston, S.D., Rosemary O'Brien of Sedrowooly, Wash.; 35 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at Perkins Funeral Home, Harlowton, with Rev. T.C. Chatman officiating the services. Interment will be in Ryegate cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Earl Bracha Jr., Tom Bracha, Marty Bracha, Eddie Williams, John Bracha Jr., and Steven Bracha.

Frances C. Allen
Frances Allen, of Billings, died at Deaconess Hospital at the age of 77. She was born the daughter of Frank and Helen Guiles on March 9, 1921, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She lived in Kansas City, Mo., and California before moving to Billings. Frances attended the St. Agnes Academy in Kansas City.
Frances enjoyed reading and read frequently during her illness. She had a great love for people and enjoyed the companionship of her dog.

Survivors include her sister, Rita Guiles of Santa Rosa, Calif.; niece, Virginia Chan of San Francisco, Calif.; daughter, Barbara Ann Alyea and a brother-in-law, Lyle Allen of Laurel; nephew, Edward Chan and great-niece, Sandra Patch. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral service will be at the noon Mass at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral on Friday, Sept. 4, 1998. Rite of Committal will be in Riverside cemetery. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Frances was most appreciative of all her friends and caretakers and will never forget them.

Dorothy Marie Havill
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Dorothy M. Havill, 86, of Buffalo, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday in the Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo. Private funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove cemetery, Buffalo, with private graveside rites to follow services.

Randall Gene Braden
GREAT FALLS - Randall Gene Braden, 48, of Great Falls, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in Great Falls.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in the Bell Chapel in Glasgow. Burial will be in the Highland cemetery in Glasgow.

Vera Louise Hesco
GREYBULL, Wyo. - Vera Louise Hesco, 60, of Greybull, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at Deaconess Medical Center in Billings of cancer.
Visitations will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull. Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Basin. Interment will follow in Hillside cemetery in Greybull.

Rita Elizabeth Noble
Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at the age of 77, Rita Elizabeth Noble, of McAllister, Mont., formerly of Billings, died at Deaconess Medical Center.
Rita was born in Boston on Jan. 31, 1921, the daughter of Louis C. and Maybelle Cassano. On Aug. 29, 1941, Rita was united in marriage to Durwood Basil Noble in Boston. They lived in Boston and Billings before moving to Grants Pass, Ore., and later to McAllister.

Rita loved nature, trees, flowers, gardening and cooking. She especially enjoyed fishing with her husband.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Durwood; son, Richard C. Noble and wife Michelle of Silver Spring, Md.; daughter, Margaret L. Bronecki and husband Thomas of Phoenix; daughter, Christine E. Oppliger and husband Mark of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren, Michael, Janis, Richard Jr., and Kristine and one great-grandson, Ty.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made in Rita's name to Deaconess Medical Center, 2800 10th Ave. N., Billings 59101.

Evelyn May Thompson
MANDERSON, Wyo. - Evelyn May Thompson, 82, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at the Sheridan Manor.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Manderson Community Bible Church. Burial will follow in Mount View cemetery in Basin. Visitations will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Atwood Family Chapel in Basin.

Floyd Alfred Durfey
RICHEY - Funeral services for Floyd Alfred Durfey, age 81, of Richey, Mont., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at American Lutheran Church in Richey with Pastor Wesley Dunbar officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Richey cemetery in Richey. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Chapel of Richey is entrusted with arrangements.
Floyd passed away on Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at the Glendive Medical Center Extended Care Facility in Glendive.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1916, in Vida, Mont., the son of Robert and Louisa (Bruhan) Durfey. Floyd attended schools in Wolf Point. In April of 1941, he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Scofield Barracks in Hawaii when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He then was stationed at Guadalcanal where he was injured while rescuing a fallen soldier and for his heroic efforts he was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was sent to New Zealand to recover from his wounds and then was sent back to the United States and was discharged from the military in April of 1943.

He married Odway Kristine Hagen on March 4, 1944, in Wolf Point. Floyd had various jobs, including that of a cowboy and worked construction. His wife preceded him in death on July 14, 1981.

Floyd's hobbies included woodworking, breaking and racing horses and he loved music.

Survivors include one son, Curtis Durfey and his wife Karen of Billings; one daughter, Ellen Kuhl Battin and her husband David of Miles City, Mont.; one sister, Marian Mossestad of Polson, Mont.; one brother, Karl Durfey of Big Timber, Mont.; three grandchildren.

Robert B. Matheny
CODY, Wyo. - Robert B. Matheny, 81, of Cody, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at the West Park Long Term Care Center.
Memorial graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Riverside cemetery.

Viola F. Dascher
GLASGOW - Viola F. Dascher, 70, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, in Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital .
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.

Geraldine M. 'Gerry' Mortensen Tracey
FORSYTH - Geraldine M. "Gerry" Mortensen Tracey, age 78 of Forsyth, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at the Rosebud County Nursing Home in Forsyth.
Geraldine was born on Dec. 14, 1919, in Forsyth, Mont., the daughter of Earl Edward and Delia Costley Carolan, a Rosebud County pioneer family. Her grandfather, J.T. Carolan, arrived on horseback in the early to mid-1880s. Her father Earl was born in Forsyth in 1894. Gerry, as she was known as, was raised in the Armell's Creek area and spent her entire life in and around Forsyth after graduating from Forsyth High School. She was an only child in a ranch family and became an accomplished horsewoman and cow woman early in life and often rode her father's relay race horses at area fairs and rodeos.

In her early womanhood years, she was very active in and a past president of the Forsyth Woman's Club and the Howard Valley Homemakers Club.

Gerry and Donald C. Mortensen were united in marriage in July of 1939 and they raised five children and were preceded in death by two children at birth. They lived on Armell's Creek where they raised their family. In 1959, she moved into Forsyth, and then in 1969, Gerry married Bill Tracey and has lived in Forsyth ever since. Gerry was also an avid reader and writer. Her fiery full Irish blood and temperament carried her through life and to the very end with her battle with diabetes.

Gerry is survived by three sons, Donald G. and his wife Sheryl of Billings, Mont., John C. "Chuck" and his wife Wanda of Skidmore, Texas, and Earl J. and Peggy Redman of Forsyth, Mont; two daughters, Sharon A. Sekins and her husband Roy of Libby, Mont., and June Bouslaugh of Billings, Mont.; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth with Father Thomas McTague officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Forsyth cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Rosebud County Nursing Home or the American Diabetes Association.

James Donald 'Don' Rodman
James Donald "Don" Rodman, 74, of Billings, died of natural causes Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998. Don was born on Jan. 27, 1924, in Gillette, Wyo., to Frank and Blanche Rodman where he lived until the family moved to Columbia, Mo. He attended area schools and was a graduate of Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo.
Don joined the Navy in 1942, and served with the Hospital Corps based at Guam during World War II. The last mission for him was flying with wounded and sick prisoners of war being flown out of Japan. He was discharged in 1946.

On Sept. 12, 1943, he married Lena Ravenscraoft in Norfolk, Va. After his discharge they moved to Livingston, Mont., where he worked for Baumgardner Dental Lab. This is where Don made his living and raised his family. After the family was raised, Don moved to Billings, where he bought and worked the Tri-Tech Dental Lab, until his death.

Don enjoyed various activities throughout his life. Golf became a favorite pastime.

He is survived by his children: Gary Donald Rodman and his wife Mary Ann of Whitefish, Mont., Gay Watts and husband Tom of Billings, and Vickie Ungefug and husband Larry of Lewistown, Mont. Grandchildren: Christopher Donald Watts, Karen Rochell Meron, Jesse Donald Rodman, Tucker James Maroney, Abby Jon Ungefug and John Tyler Ungefug. Great-grandchildren: T. J. Meron, Brooke Elaine Meron, Meagan Elaine Watts, Ashley Lynn Watts and Haley Christine Watts. He is also survived by three brothers: Edwin Rodman, Tom Rodman and Dale Rodman. Don also had many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th Street West. Viewing will be held 2-9 p.m. Friday at the West Chapel and prior to services. Interment will take place in Livingston at the Mountainview cemetery at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Family and friends are invited to the Livingston Country Club following the interment for a time of fellowship and refreshment.

Ryan 'Spooky' Cruz Harjo
CROW AGENCY - On July 26, 1998, Ryan "Spooky" Cruz Harjo went to be with the Lord. He was born July 2, 1973, in Crow Agency.
As a child, he grew up and attended schools in the St. Xavier area, later attending high school at St. Labre, Hardin, Lodge Grass, Chemawa Indian School and finished his education at the Kicking Horse Job Corps Center in Ronan, Mont.

He worked for the Crow Tribe as a security guard and on his own time, he enjoyed fire fighting. He worked for the Crow AML program, Crow Casino and he last worked at the pork factory. Ryan enjoyed being in the company of family and friends. Other pastimes include hunting, fishing, horseshoes, basketball, cross-country, football, and all types of physical sports.

Ryan is survived by two brothers, Johnny (Erlise) and Donnie (Allison) Harjo of Crow Agency; one son, Ryan Cruz Harjo Jr.; three daughters, Talijah Harjo (Jean Sun Goes Slow) of Dunmore, Luvon Harjo (Roberta Fitch) and Sienna Rose Harjo (Anna Pretty on Top) of Crow Agency; an adopted daughter, Kristy Alden; an adopted son, Cyrus Leider Jr. He is also survived by his maternal uncles and aunts, Manford Walks, Leland (Dena) Walks, Ira Walks, Conrad (Deidra) Walks, Mitchell Iron, Lois (Ralph) Chavez, Theda Walks and Arnetta Walks; his paternal uncles, Wayne, Larry and Dana Tobacco; his adopted parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bear Cloud Sr., Veronica White Clay, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Old Horn, Fred and Cindy Alden, Mary Knows His Gun, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Birdinground, Lois Ann Crooked Arm, Barry (Sandy) Plenty Hawk, Lucille (Ben) Red Wolf, Joe Blaine, Ira Left Hand and his relatives in Oklahoma; his great aunt, Laura Tobacco He Does It and numerous adopted brothers, sisters and numerous nieces and nephews, with whom he had a special relationship.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday in the Crow Agency St. Dennis Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Hardin Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin is entrusted with the arrangements.
