Lorenzo Batchelor

HENDERSON - Lorenzo Batchelor, 32, of 74 Sombrero Lane died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, from injuries received in an automobile accident in Franklin County. He was the son of Carolyn Batchelor and the late Walter Lee Taylor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson Chapel by the Rev. Hugh F. Peace. Burial will be in Ilong Baptist Church cemetery in Granville County.

Surviving, in addition to his mother of the home, are two sisters, Linda Batchelor of the home and Donna Jean Batchelor of Henderson; one brother, Jerry Batchelor of Neptune, N.J.; and a grandmother, Margaret Braswell of Oxford.

Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Mary R. Way

OXFORD -- Mary R. Way, 92, of 416 Broad St. died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Brantwood Nursing Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Alberta Edwards

EAST ORANGE, N.J. -- Alberta Edwards, 70, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in East Orange, N.J. She was a Vance County native.

Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services.

Rebecca W. Moore

HENDERSON -- Rebecca Watkins Moore, age 90, a former resident of Belle St., died Monday March 31, 2003, at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh. She was a native of Vance Co. and was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Nannie Guy Tarry Watkins and was the widow of Owen Barnes Moore. Mrs. Moore was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Henderson, the Tuesday Club, the Book Club and the Henderson Garden Club. She attended West Hampton College in Richmond Va. She also enjoyed playing bridge.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Rick Brand. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Rodwell Baker of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sons, Owen Barnes Moore Jr. of Raleigh and Roy O. Rodwell of Kemmerer, Wyo.; six grandchildren, Rutland Rodwell Baker of Chicago, Ill., Suzanne Tarry Baker of Wilmington, N.C., Ashley Hamilton Baker of Los Angeles, Calif., Nancy Rodwell Tuohy of Philadelphia, Pa., Rebecca Tarry Rodwell of Washington, D.C., and Mary Barnes Moore of Raleigh; and one brother, Edward Watkins of Houston, Texas.

The family will receive friends Friday from 10 until 10:50 in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Rutland Rodwell Baker, Samuel M. Watkins Jr., George Rose Watkins Sr., George Rose Watkins Jr., Samuel M. Watkins III and Bennett H. Perry Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 222 Young St., Henderson, N.C. 27536.

Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home of Henderson.

James W. Frazer

HENDERSON -- A memorial service will be held on Monday at 3 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church on West U.S. 158 Bypass for James W. Frazer, who died at Duke University Medical Center on April 23, 2003, after a long illness. The Rev. Bill Upah will officiate.

He was born June 1, 1917, to Dr. and Mrs. James W. Frazer Sr. of Bayonne, N.J.

He spent his youth honing skills in fields he loved -- music, art and photography. After he spent 10 years as a professional drummer, his interests in art and photography grew, and he decided to further his study of photography and become a professional. At that time he met his future wife, Margaret W. Fitzpatrick of Bayonne.

For the next 30 years, he operated his own studio in New Jersey. Later, the Frazers moved to Sarasota, Fla., where he became the art manager of the D&S Photography plant.

When they retired to Henderson, he met Ed Laffman, a well-known local photographer, and they worked together for the next 10 years until they both retired.

He spent his retirement with his hobbies, and his love of drumming never waned. He played for a senior citizen group in Henderson and at many other functions around town.

Willie G. Thornton

WARRENTON -- The Rev. Willie G. Thornton, 85, of Warrenton died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Guardian Care Nursing Home in Henderson.

Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Joseph L. Fleming

FRISCO -- Joseph Lane Fleming, 74, of Frisco, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at his residence. He was a native of Warrenton.

He was a retired real estate broker, a Mason, and a member of the Warrenton Presbyterian Church. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps. He was the son of the late William and Helen Lane Fleming.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Dickerson Fleming of the residence; three sons, Sam Fleming, Tod Gaskill, and Mark Clayton; three daughters, Susan Gregory, Patty Fleming, Barbara Thompson; one sister, Janice Lee; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Buxton Methodist Church in Buxton by the Revs. Holt Clarke and Roger Barnett. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fairview cemetery in Warrenton.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 930B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C. 27834.

Arrangements are by Twisfords Island Chapel, Hatteras.

Ricky G. Goodwin

CREEDMOOR -- Ricky Glenn Goodwin, 44, of 3524-B Walters Road died Friday, April 11, 2003, at his home. He was a Wake County native and the son of Martha Stevens Goodwin and the late Kermit Lee Goodwin.

He was a member of Ebenezer Community Baptist Church and was a 20-year employee of Nortel.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Ebenezer Community Baptist Church in Raleigh by the Rev. Darrell Sauls. Burial will be in Raleigh Memorial Park.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a sister, Peggy G. Horton of Raleigh, and two brothers, Phillip Goodwin of Willow Springs and Larry Don Goodwin of Raleigh. A brother, Jimmy Goodwin, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Eakes Funeral Home of Creedmoor.

Charles E. Schuster

OINE -- Charles Edward "Buck" Schuster, 69, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Maria Parham Medical Center. He was the son of the late Wade F. Schuster and Mary Walker Schuster.

He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and a retired farmer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Warren Cash. Burial will immediately follow in the Schuster family cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred King Schuster; one son, Edward Schuster of Norlina; two brothers, Thurman "Pete" Schuster of Norlina and Wade F. Schuster Jr. of Roanoke Rapids; six sisters, Margaret Tart of Townsville, Annie Matthews of Norlina, Grace Tingen of Henderson, Gladys Evans of Henderson, Hazel Lloyd of Henderson and Cheryl King of Warrenton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

James A. Oakley

OXFORD -- James "Shorty" A. Oakley, 57, of 412 Person St. died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Duke University Medical Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late John A. Oakley and Marie Holloway Oakley.

He was a member of the St. Matthew Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son, Scottie L. Oakley of Oxford; two daughters, Jacquelyn Oakley and Lynette Glascoe, both of Oxford; one brother, Bennie Oakley of Oxford; five sisters, Sharon Patton of Charlotte, Diane Throckmorton, Carolyn Mallory and Linda Gilliam, all of Oxford, and Velma Harrison of Cleveland; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the St. Matthew Baptist Church by the Rev. Leo Thorpe. Burial with Masonic rites will be in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Barbara K. Foye

OXFORD - Barbara Kenyon Foye of 310 Henderson St. died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at the Durham Regional Hospital.

Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home of Oxford.

Spencer Henderson Sr.

WARRENTON -- Spencer Henderson Sr., 70, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Warren Hills in Warrenton. He was the son of the late Henry Henderson and Frances Henderson.

He joined the church at an early age. In May 2002 he committed his life to Christ.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Burchette Chapel Church in Drewry by Elder Mary Seward. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Lillie B. Henderson of Soul City; eight sons, Spencer Henderson Jr. of Henderson, Thomas Henderson of Soul City, Lonnie Henderson of Rocky Mount, Zeroy Henderson of Warrenton, Stacey Henderson of Ridgeway, Chris Perry of Perrytown, Alonzo Bullock of Henderson, and Donnell Henderson of California; three daughters, Carolyn Henderson of Manson, Lillie Henderson of Ridgeway, Patricia Jones of Zebulon; one sister, Edith Burchette of Manson; 27 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Henderson, and two sisters, Margaret Henderson and Louise Jones.

Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Willie Jackson

LOUISBURG -- Willie Jackson, 83, of N.C. 39, Louisburg, died April 11, 2003, at Franklin Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Mary E. Lynch

NORLINA -- Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lynch, 70, of Norlina died Aug. 3, 2003.

She was a seamstress at the former La Crosse Sportswear.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Moretz of Norlina and Dorothy Lynch of Littleton; two sons, Marshall and Milton Lynch, both of South Hill; four brothers, Harold Clark of Palmer Springs, Billy Clark of Warrenton, and Gerald and Joel Clark, both of South Hill; two sisters, Betty Jean Jackson of Norlina and Faye Stokes of Henderson; 10 grandchildren, Craig Wright, Brandon Wright, Jessica Moretz, Johnny McDaniel Jr., Heath and Michael Lynch, Edward Milton Lynch Jr., Jason Jackson, Jennifer Thompson, and Tabatha Skeen; four great-granddaughters, Diamond, Britney, Kaitlin and Elizabeth Ann; and one great-grandson, John Skeen.

She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Miranda Dawn McDaniel, and two sisters, Bernice Allgood and Katherine Rogers.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home, with interment in Mount Auburn United Church of Christ in Palmer Springs.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.

Hattie Williams

FRANKLINTON - Hattie Williams, 86, of the Guardian Care nursing facility died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Maria Parham Medical Center. She was a Wake County native.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Chapel by Bishop T.E. Woolfolk. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.

Surviving are a son, Elder Willie Winston of Franklinton; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors at Wright Funeral Home one hour before the services and at other times at the residence of Elder Willie Winston, Route 1, Box 83E, N.C. 56.
