FERGUSON
NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mrs. Winifred Vivian Ferguson, 86, wife of 65 years of Charlie Watson Ferguson of Overhill Drive, Ferguson, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at her home. Mrs. Ferguson was born March 22, 1914, in Wilkes County to Robert Gerald and Rosa Higgins Ferguson. She was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church where she had served as Sunday school teacher, taught Bible study, mission study, girls' Acteens and was a member of the women's mission. She was valedictorian of her graduating class at Wilkesboro High School, a graduate of Business College, former tax lister, member of the Beaver Creek Home Extension Club, and a Republican judge for community and primary elections in the Beaver Creek Community. Mrs. Ferguson was an avid bird watcher and gardener. Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Charles Jerry Ferguson, PLS of Ferguson and Martin Harvey Ferguson of the home; six daughters, Vivian Rose Rhodes of Wilkesboro, Mary Judy Wright of Zionville, Nora Ann Gregory of Millers Creek, Dr. Susan Barefoot of Liberty, S.C., Joan Johnson of Bethlehem, and Margaret Frances Ferguson of the home; two sisters, Verna Church of Sparta and Margaret Crawford of Hickory; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5 at Beaver Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Hadley Triplette officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 to 4 p.m. before the funeral. Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Mission of Beaver Creek Baptist Church, 10396 West Highway 268, Ferguson, NC 28624. Miller Funeral Service of North Wilkesboro is in charge of arrangements.

HARRISON
Mrs. Kathryn Day Harrison, 77, of Walkertown died at her home Saturday morning, Nov. 4, 2000, after two year s of declining health. A native of Forsyth County, she was born Aug. 3, 1923, to the late James N. and Mattie West Day. She was a member of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church where she active in the choir as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Day. Surviving are her loving husband of 59 years, Roy H. Harrison; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Loretta Harrison of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Donna H. Bradley of Kernersville; four grandchildren, Keith Harrison and wife, Lisa, Kent Harrison, Kami H. McKinney and husband, Dale, and Blake Corvin; two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Harrison and Quentin McKinney; a sister, Gwendolyn "Gwen" Kirby; and two brothers, Duane Day and J.N. Day. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with the Rev. Charles E. Sparks officiating. Entombment will follow in the Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Walkertown. The family will receive friends and relatives from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

HAUSER
MIAMI, Fla. -- Kenneth J. Hauser Jr. died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in the Garden of Memory, Christ the King Lutheran Church, 11295 S.W. 57th Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the church's Memorial Pipe Organ Fund.

HAUSER
Mr. Wingate Morris Hauser, 80, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Brookridge Retirement Community. Mr. Hauser was born in Forsyth County on July 22, 1920, to T.O. and Jessie Jordan Hauser. After graduating from Old Town High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving a battle star for participation in the Battle of the Bulge. His excellence as a professional painter was exceeded only by his lifelong skills as a hunter and fisherman who lived his strong beliefs in protection of the environment. Surviving are many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory, including Barbara Young, Tommye Ann and Ed Fox, Dallas and Carolyn Blakley, David and Jan Hauser, Susan and Jim Horton, Steve and Elaine Hauser. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, by the Rev. Mark Fox at Brookridge Retirement Community Chapel. Memorials may be made to Brookridge Retirement Community, 1199 Hayes Forest Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27016 or to the donor's choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookridge for all the love shown and the exceptional care given to "Wink" during all of his time there. HOLLEMAN
Miss Mary Louise Holleman, 87, a charter resident at Brighton Gardens on Reynolda Road, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Sept. 5, 1913, in Surry County to James L. and Rosa McGee Holleman. Miss Holleman was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in 1978, with 47 years of service. She was a member of Providence Moravian Church, where she was a choir member and served on the board. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Holleman and three brothers, Paul, Fred and Clyde Holleman. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Floyd Hughes of Charlotte and Mrs. Willie Disher and husband, C.P. of Winston-Salem; a sister-in-law, Irene Holleman of Pfafftown; two nieces, Miss Angela Disher of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Pam Warren of Acworth, Ga.; five nephews, Mark Disher of Winston-Salem, Billy, Terry, Kenny and David Floyd, all of Charlotte. Next to her Lord, she loved her nieces and nephews the most. Also surviving are a host of great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Forsyth Memorial Park, with the Rev. Arkon Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. JOHNSON
NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mrs. Ina J. Johnson, 88, of Mount Sinai Road, North Wilkesboro, widow of Eli Johnson died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mountain View Baptist Church in the Windy Gap Community. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Johnson was born in Wilkes County Aug. 18, 1912, to Rufus and Letha Hays Johnson. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by a daughter, Stacie Johnson and two sons, Max Johnson and Fred Johnson. Mrs. Johnson is survived by five daughters, Mary J. Ashley of Yadkinville, Peggy J. Mathis of Roaring River, Jocie J. Winebarger of Shreveport, La., Ruby J. Coleman and Faye J. Curry, both of North Wilkesboro; 27 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

LEWIS
Mrs. Eva Egerton Rucker Lewis died Nov. 3, 2000, at Masonic and Eastern Star Home in Greensboro. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Masonic and Eastern Star Home at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000. Mrs. Lewis was born to the late William G. Egerton and Sue Mills Egerton in Mill Spring Jan. 27, 1906. She was married to the late Henry Allen Rucker in 1930 and the late R. Fred Lewis in 1965. She graduated from Asheville Normal Teachers College in 1928, and from Western Carolina Teachers College in 1960. She taught school many years in Polk , Cleveland and Rutherford counties. In earlier days she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She was a member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Lewis is survived by two daughters, Doris Dudley of Raleigh and Sue Andrew and husband, John of Winston-Salem; a sister, Virginia Rigsbee of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lewis's family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home, where she resided for 17 years. NICHOLS
Mr. Maurice Auther Nichols, 73, of White Plains Road, Roaring River died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Roaring River Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ron Gilbert and the Rev. Donnie Shumate officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Nichols was born in Amhurst, N.H., April 9, 1927, to Monroe and Mary Swenson Nichols. He was an active church member of Roaring River Baptist Church. He was a former Sunday school superintendent, treasurer, a member of the finance committee, men's Sunday school teacher and a deacon. Mr. Nichols was also a volunteer fireman with the Roaring River Fire Department. Mr. Nichols was employed at Hanes Hosiery until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife, Anna King Nichols of the home; two daughters, Sandra Lytton and Kathy Harris, both of Roaring River; four sisters, Frances Agnew and Barbara Nichols, both of Charlotte, Arlene Morrison of Greensboro and Elsie Elrod of Bradenton, Fla.; two brothers, Bobby Nichols of Jefferson and M.L. Nichols Jr. of South Carolina; and three grandchildren, Amy Wyatt of North Wilkesboro, and Jessica Harris and Amber Harris, both of Roaring River. The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. OVERBY
Mr. Tommy Alan Overby, 51, of Winston-Salem died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center. He was born April 10, 1949, in Forsyth County to Thomas A. and Blanche Billings Overby. Mr. Overby was a graduate of Parkland High School and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He retired from Hensel Wood Products Corp. in 1983 as a manufacturing accountant. He was the owner of Gumtree Mobile Service for 10 years after his retirement. Since the early 1970s, Mr. Overby had been a deputy with the Davidson County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of Gumtree Volunteer Fire and Rescue from 1984 until he resigned in September 1992 because of declining health. Mr. Overby was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sandra O. Coram and Edith Victoria Overby. Surviving are a daughter, Amanda Overby Brown and husband, Doug, of Thomasville; a grandson, Nicholas Brown; two brothers, Terry V. Overby and Timothy B. Overby, both of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Charles Martin and the Rev. Richard Everhart officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to John H. SCALES
Mr. Ernest Henderson Scales, formerly of 923 Roosevelt Ave., was born March 20, 1919, in Reidsville to the late Henderson and Kate Scales. He had been a resident of Winston-Salem for most of his life . He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 38 years of service. He was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Scales was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Scales. He departed this life Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center after a period of illness. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Piedmont Memorial Gardens with Bishop Claude D. Thomas officiating. Mr. Scales leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Elizabeth S. Lineberger and Pearl Scales, both of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, James Scales of Greensboro and a host of other relatives and friends. TROUTT
Alvia Jessie Troutt, 88, died Nov. 3, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Troutt was born April 5, 1912, the daughter of Clinton and Retta (Mayberry) Welborn. She was a long-time member of Manna Baptist Church of Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, George R. Troutt, in 1998. Survivors include her daughter Shelby and husband, Lee Roy Blalock of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Dennis and wife, Genia Blalock also of Winston-Salem; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Blalock also of Winston-Salem; a brother, Rhoten Welborn of Kernersville and a sister, Margaret Holt of East Bend. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hanes-Lineberry Pierce Chapel in Kernersville.

WRIGHT
Mrs. Anna Ruth Hall Moore Wright, 66, of 2941 Broadbay Drive died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Jan. 9, 1936, in Bluefield, W.Va., the daughter of the late Theodore Hall and Sara Hall. Mrs. Wright was a retired employee of N.C.N.B. Bank in Winston-Salem and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Mary Hall Fair. Surviving are two daughters, Ms. Rebecca Moore Cordell and Mrs. Ivan (Debbie) Blakenship, both of Winston-Salem; a sister, Mrs. John (Doris) Campbell of Taylors, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Jonathan C. Hutchins, Brandon E. Hutchins, Charles "Chuck" F. Clayton and Christopher I. Blankenship. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the J.C. Green & Sons Chapel in Winston-Salem with Pastor Bobby Holcomb officiating. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Memorial Park cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home, 2941 Broadbay Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. Memorials may be directed to the Kate B. CARTRETTE
LEXINGTON -- Donald Ray Cartrette, of Michael Street, died at 2:35 p.m. Thursday at Lexington Memorial Hospital after declining health for six months. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel conducted by the Rev. Paul Holbrook and the Rev. Fred Miller. Burial will be at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Cartrette was born Oct. 8, 1939, in Bladen County to Daniel Cartrette and Beulah Powell Cartrette. He was an employee of Link-Taylor Furniture and of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Wood Cartrette of the home; sons Ronald Wayne Cartrette, Jimmy Ray Cartrette, Kelly James Cartrette all of Lexington and Robert Daniel Cartrette of Yadkinville; a daughter, Peggy Sue Cartrette Beck of Lexington; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim Cartrette of Hope Mills, Ben Cartrette of Pulaski, Va., Elbert Cartrette of Raleigh, Sam Cartrette, Auburn Cartrette and Robert Cartrette all of Lexington; and sisters Geneva Hill and Faye Howell, both of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.

COE
Mr. Willie Gray Coe, 94, a resident of 1510 Shady Grove Church Road went to be with the Lord on Nov. 2, 2000. He was born in Stokes County on Feb. 17, 1906, a son of William Thomas Coe and Martha Jane Coe. He was a faithful member of Bethany United Church of Christ for more than 60 years. He was a farmer and had retired from Unique Furniture Co. On Nov. 24, 1928, he was married to Miss Mary Lourona Draughn, who died in 1980. Surviving are two daughters, Ms. Margaret Clark and friend Harold Calahan of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Harold (Shelby) Smith of High Point; two sons, Marvin Coe and wife Barbara and Calvin Coe and wife Dorothy, both of Winston-Salem; a brother, Coy A. Coe of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Callaway and a brother, John R. Coe Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethany United Church of Christ by the Rev. Robert Thurston and the Rev. Banks Shepherd. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Winston-Salem until placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. The family will be at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:30 Saturday and other times at the home of a son, Marvin Coe, 842 Shady Grove Church Road, Winston-Salem. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Oaks of Thomasville and the nurses on the sixth-floor west of Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem for their love and care for their dad. DILLON
Mr. Charles William Dillon, 79, of Winston-Salem, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Kernersville to the late Charles Roland and Neomia Cattlet Dillon. Mr. Dillon was a charter member of Konnoak Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army World War veteran. He retired from Sara Lee Corp. with 39 1/2 years of service and was employed with Food Fair. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Estelle Smith Dillon of the home; three sons, Mr. Larry (wife Merrill) Dillon of Eufaula, Ala., Mr. Terry (wife Geraldine) Dillon of Kernersville and Mr. Jerry (wife Carol) Dillon of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Ragan Dillon of Birmingham, Ala., Charles William Dillon II of Eufaula, Ala. and Tracey Dillon and Pamela Dillon of Winston-Salem; and a sister, Mrs. Macie Cheek of Walkertown. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Dr. Gary McCollough and the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

DODSON
PISGAH FOREST -- Clarence Alvin Dodson, 74, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000. He was a native of Transylvania County and the son of the late William McKinley and Dallas Chappell Dodson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Dodson and Will Earl Dodson; a sister, Inez Powell Holden; and a son, James "Hoppy" Dodson. Mr. Dodson was employed with Brevard College as campus security. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Flora "Polly" Littleton Dodson; a son, Randal and wife Teresa Dodson of Pisgah Forest; six daughters, Louise "Tiny" and husband Albert Campbell of Winston-Salem, Brenda and husband Tommy Cantrell of Pisgah Forest, Marlene Wilson and fiance Tim Nesto of Charlotte, Charlene and husband Vince Stone of Pisgah Forest, Annette and husband Pete Raines of Pisgah Forest and Kim and husband Danny McPeters of Pisgah Forest; a daughter-in-law, Loretta Dodson of Pisgah Forest; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Enon Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Madden, the Rev. Bert Dodson and the Rev. Danny Byers officiating. DUNCAN
WEST JEFFERSON -- Edgar Thomas Duncan Jr., 78, of the Buffalo community died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at his home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Buffalo Baptist Church with the Rev. Dean Watson and the Rev. Johnny Goodman officiating. Interment will follow in the Lewis Family cemetery. The Duncan family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Duncan was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Montgomery County, Ohio, to Edgar Thomas Duncan Sr. and Frances McConnell Duncan. Mr. Duncan served in the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic during World War II. He was married to Ozella Rash on June 7, 1945. Mr. Duncan was retired from the Sprague Electric Co. where he was a foreman in the rolling department. He was a member of the Buffalo Baptist Church where he served as the chairman of the Deacon Board, superintendent of the Sunday school, director of the Bible school and choir director. Survivors include his wife, Ozella Rash Duncan; a daughter, Dollie Duncan Richardson of Ashe County; a sister, Charlotte Duncan Bolen of Kettering, Ohio; a grandchild, Betsi Petway of Mebane; two stepgrandsons, Staff Sgt. Rob Richardson of the 82 Airborne, Fort Bragg, and Airman Bill Richardson of NATO in the Netherlands; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family requests that memorials be made to Buffalo Baptist Church of Hospice of Ashe County.

GWYN
On Nov. 2, 2000, Cornell V. Gwyn Sr., a beloved father, was called home to be with God. He was born in Winston-Salem to the late Walter and Ella Allen Gwyn. Cornell served his country well in the U.S. Army. He was retired from AT&T after serving 38 faithful years. He was a dedicated police reserve captain and served 25 years in the Winston-Salem Police Department from 1962 to 1987. He was a longtime member of Saints Home United Methodist Church. He was a devoted husband and father. He was married to the late Viola Brown Gwyn for 50 years. From this union five children were born. He leaves to cherish his memories two devoted daughters, Brenda Gwynn of the home and Rebecca Porter of Winston-Salem; three sons, Cornell V. (Evelyn) Gwyn, William F. (Christine) Gwyn and Paul E. (Juanilla) Gwyn; two foster sons, Bernard W. (Danita) Washington of Greensboro and Donald (Paula) Moore of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a sister, Mary Gwyn of Winston-Salem; two brothers, William H. (Mariam) Gwyn and Edward T. (Marion) Gwyn, both of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Fannie R. Gerald of Winston-Salem and Margaret Gwyn of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers-in-law, Robert F. Brown of Winston-Salem and Albert E. (Jimmie) of Columbia, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Saints Home United Methodist Church with Pastor John Epps officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. JONESVILLE -- Mr. Allen Jerome Hampton departed this life Wednesday morning in Johnson City, Tenn. He was born in Surry County on Jan. 18, 1965, to K.C. and Dorothy Gamble Hampton. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers; and his grandfather. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mrs. Faye Williams Hampton of Boonville; two daughters, Miss Nakea Dawn Hampton of Boonville and Miss Latisha Hampton of Jonesville; four sisters, Mrs. Muriel Sales of Jonesville, Mrs. Sharon France of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Shannon Fair of Winston-Salem and Ms. Melissa Hampton of Jonesville; three brothers, John Wade Hampton of North Wilkesboro, Kenneth Charles Hampton of Johnson City, Tenn., and Craig Hampton of Jonesville; his stepgrandmother, Mrs. Gertrude Gamble of Pilot Mountain; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Annie Ruth Williams of Boonville; five aunts; two uncles; a host of close relatives; and many friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6 at Gentry Family Chapel, Yadkinville, by Pastor J.L. Scott Sr. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

MIAMI, Fla. -- Kenneth J. Hauser Jr. died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in the Garden of Memory, Christ the King Lutheran Church, 11295 S.W. 57th Ave.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the church's Memorial Pipe Organ Fund.
