Master Monte Delano Young Jr. of 2924 Tressa St. passed at WFU Baptist Medical Center on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001. He was born Nov. 24, 2000, in Forsyth County to Miss Amesia Glenn and Mr. Monte Young. He was the grandson of Susan and Ray Blakney and Ms. Vanette McCree, grandparents Carolyn and Arthur Hamilton, great-grandson of Miss Dorthy McCullum, great-grandparent John Glenn; great-grandson of Miss Ida Gaston, Mattie Ruth Daniels and Neil Wilksin; brother to Tyianna and Ambreya Young and Tamija Sroud; and nephew to Flora Graston, Crystal Glenn, Khalila Young, Timothy Young, Tina Hamilton, Jalesa Hamilton and Michael Battle of Americus, Ga., and Sandra Miles. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Philemon Samuels officiating. The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from the residence. ZIEVERINK

Judieth Norman Zieverink, 53, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Charlotte died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001. Mrs. Zieverink was born Sept. 29, 1947, in Charlotte, a daughter of Howard Norman and Virginia Medlin Norman. A graduate of Harding High School, she worked as a candy striper at the former Charlotte Memorial Hospital while she attended nursing school. She was a member of the Lupus Association, the Dog Club and a past member of St. Patrick's Cathedral. Mrs. Zieverink was a rubber stamp enthusiast and enjoyed making specialty greeting cards and envelopes. She was a devoted wife, a faithful daughter, a loving mother and grandmother and a special friend to many people. In addition the her parents, Mrs. Zieverink is survived by her husband, Francis A. "Tony" Zieverink; her son, Brent A. Zieverink and his wife Jodi Zieverink of Charlotte; her granddaughter, Delaney Zieverink; her brother, Johnny Norman of Upper Darby, Pa.; her sisters, Joyce Love and Lori Seagle of Charlotte; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Zieverink of Charlotte; and her faithful pet, Misty. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 1621 Dilworth Road E., Charlotte, with the Rev. Paul Q. Gary, celebrant. There will be a recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Harry and Bryant Co., 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, followed by a visitation until 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the North Carolina Lupus Association, 2841 Foxwood Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Harry and Bryant Co. is serving the family of Mrs. Zieverink.

BLYTHE
Mrs. Ursula Kysela Blythe, 56, of 2133 High Bridge Road, Pinnacle, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Blythe was born Oct. 12, 1944, to Joseph and Elfriede Kysela of Germany, where she was educated. After her marriage to William David Blythe, they moved to the United States in July 1973 and have lived in Pinnacle since 1977. She received her U.S. citizenship on July 4, 1986, in Greensboro at the Battleground Memorial Park. Mrs. Blythe loved her yard and took great pride in her garden. She grew many vegetables, which she shared with family and neighbors. She is survived by her husband, William, of the home; two daughters, Astrid Blythe of the home and Birgit Blythe of King; a son, Thomas Blythe and his wife, Darlene of Pinnacle; a granddaughter, Kimberly Bree Blythe of Durham; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Komarek and husband Klaus of Germany; two nieces, Angelika Wetzel and Petra Hess; and a nephew, Matthias Hess, all of Langen, Germany. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel, with the Rev. Gerald Stump officiating. Burial will be in the Skyline Memorial Park in Mount Airy. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

CAUDLE

Mrs. Zadie Caudle, 86, of 711 Laurel St. died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Kerner Ridge Assisted Living in Kernersville. She was born Feb. 2, 1915, in Leeksville to Albert Yancy and Jenny Dell Gardner Buck. Mrs. Caudle was a member of Winston Baptist Church. She worked for Hanes Hosiery for a number of years and later was an electrical worker for the U.S. Air Force in Norfolk, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vilas Caudle; and her son, Jerry Caudle. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Elaine Caudle, and three grandchildren, Tracy Kucera, Chad Caudle and Rich Caudle, all of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Betty Barrow of Kernersville; two brothers, Gilbert Buck of High Point and James Buck of Norfolk, Va.; a special niece, Carol McCune of Clemmons; and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

FREEMAN

Mrs. Laura Kate Freeman, 81, of Charlotte died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Duffield, Va., daughter of the late App Hayes Roberts and Myrtle Bowling Roberts. Mrs. Freeman was a member of North Charlotte Historic Society. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Stirling. Interment will follow in Evergreen City cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at the funeral home. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Rufus Fred Donnie Freeman of Charlotte; daughter, Linda Freeman and her husband, Alfred C. of Charlotte; son Rufus Fred Donnie Freeman Jr. and wife, Sandra of Williamsport, Md.; daughter, Judy Freeman Brittain of Cooleemee; adopted daughter, Joan Humble of Mocksville; granddaughter, Janice W. McLean and her husband, Richard of Charlotte; Tonya F. Kreps and her husband, George of Hagerstown, Md.; Marcy B. Collins and husband, Garry of Concord; great grandson, Mason Jarrett Kreps of Hagerstown, Md. Arrangements by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Services Charlotte Chapel.

FULCHER

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Mr. Robert C. Fulcher Jr., 78, died Jan. 30, 2001. He was born in Forsyth County on Oct. 15, 1922, to Robert C. and Mary Mosley Fulcher. He is survived by a sister, Virginia Persson and her husband Norman of Bethel Park, Pa. Interment will be in Arlington National cemetery on March 6.

HARDY WOOD

DOBSON - Mrs. Imogene Hardy Wood, 78, of U.S. Highway 601 S. passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. She was born Sept. 5, 1922, in Surry County to the late Leyon and Lela Etta Jones White. Mrs. Wood was a homemaker and a faithful member of Mount Herman Baptist Church and was active in the Baptist Womens Club at church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Porter Gray Hardy and by a sister, Nellie Stanley. Surviving are her husband of 12 years, Leo Wood of the home; her two sons, Edward G. (Polly) Hardy of Boonville and James L. (Dianne) Hardy of Dobson; a stepson, Ricky (Angie) Wood of Dobson; three granddaughters, Robin (Steve) Pardue, Lisa (Richard) Autry and Tiffany Hardy; a stepgranddaughter, Shannon Wood; two great-great-granddaughters, Haley Pardue and Taylor Spillman; four sisters, Nina Hardy of Mooresville, Hazel Stanley and Nancy Morrison of Boonville and Lois Jester of East Bend; and a brother, Melvin White of Boonville. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Herman Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Stone and the Rev. Don Ball. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mount Herman Baptist Church. Mrs. Wood will be taken from Gentry Family Funeral Service on Highway 601 N., Yadkinville, to the church at 5 p.m. Friday for the visitation. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

HOLLAND

Mrs. Elva Darnell Holland, 87, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Vienna Village. She was born Sept. 7, 1913, in Stokes County to Joseph Raleigh Darnell and Annie Ferguson Darnell. Mrs. Holland was retired from Hanes Hosiery (Sara Lee). For many years she was an active member of Matthew's Chapel Church of Christ. Preceding her in death were her husband, James Claude Holland, in 1979; five brothers; and three sisters. Surviving are her son, James B. "Jim" Holland of Pfafftown; two grand-daughters, Jan Hunt of Pfafftown and Donna Knowlton of Pace, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Korie Ragan, Jeremy Vestal, Justin Vestal, Kristan Knowlton and Ryan Knowlton; and a great-great-granddaughter, Alyssa Caudill. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, conducted by Ron Exline, minister. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. before the service. HUTCHINS

ADVANCE - Mrs. Lucille R. Taylor Hutchins, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at The Laurels of Hendersonville. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Street Chapel. Interment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery. She was retired from Lucent Technologies (formerly Western Electric) after 30 years of service and was an Avon manager for over 25 years. She was a former member of Evangelical and Reform Church, which is now Peace United Church of Christ. Surviving are her nephews, Ronald Pleasants and wife Kay of Lake Lure and Barry Pleasants and wife Denise of Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Street Chapel in Greensboro. JOHNSON

Mrs. Roberta Gaydon Johnson, formerly of 323 Forest Hill Ave., passed on to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, Feb. 13, 2001, at Springwood Care Nursing Center. She was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, where she attended the public schools. Mrs. Johnson was a retired employee of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County public schools and a member of St. John CME Church, where she served on the senior choir, stewardess board and Sunday school department. She was a former member of the Pittsburg Avenue Flower Club. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Johnson Sr. and a daughter, Judy Johnson Wilborn. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Robert) Stowe and Janice Johnson, all of Winston-Salem; three sons, Alphonso (Geraldine) Gaydon of Winston-Salem, Clarence Johnson Jr. of Gastonia and Christopher (Vera) Johnson of Winston-Salem; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Hairston; two devoted friends, Virginia Allen and Melton McClinton of Winston-Salem; and a host of close nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at St. John CME Church with the Rev. Bobby Best officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service hour (10:30-11a.m.) at the church. The funeral cortege will assemble at the residence at 10 a.m. Saturday. (Hooper)

ARARAT - Mrs. Zita Maude Johnson Johnson, 89, of Route 1, Box 879 died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Johnson was born March 9, 1911, in Surry County to the late John Henry Johnson and Amanda Marie Watson Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Earl R. Bowman of Pilot Mountain; a son-in-law and wife, Jerry and Ruby Smith of Pilot Mountain; three grand-children, Vicki and Tommy Yokley and Chuck and Beneigh Johnson of Pilot Mountain and Keith and Susan Smith of Wake Forest; a great-grandchild, Selena Lynn Yokley of Pilot Mountain; and five sisters and a brother-in-law, Mollie Johnson Watson, Annie Johnson Watson, Ollie Johnson Johnson and Maye and Cecil Atkins of Ararat and Faye Johnson Inman of Pilot Mountain; In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Walter M. Johnson; daughter Polly Ann Johnson Smith; sister Lula Johnson Flinchum; and three brothers, Coley Johnson, Caleb Johnson and Raymond Johnson. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Howell Funeral Chapel in Pilot Mountain, conducted by the Rev. Mitchell Pruitt and the Rev. F. Eugene Sherrill. Interment will be in the Mount Zion Baptist Church cemetery, Ararat. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Friday night, Feb. 16, 2001, at the funeral home. MCIHATTEN

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Kathleen Hoots McIhatten, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Lula Conrad and Zeno Daniel Hoots. She was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Yadkin County. She received a bachelor's degree from UNC at Greensboro and a double master's from Union Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. She was educational director at Chevy Chase Baptist Church, assistant principal at George Mason Elementary School, an English teacher at Parker Gray and Duke Street School and a tutor at George Washington University. She was devoted to her piano and performed in Master Classes at GWU. She was a member of AAUW and Great Books and enjoyed many years of tennis. She was a member of New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., for 56 years. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, David White McIhatten; daughters Mary McIhatten Council of Richmond, Va., and Martha McIhatten Fuller of Secaucus, N.J., and their spouses; grandson Davie Steele McIlhatten of New York, N.Y.; granddaughter Sarah Kathleen McIhatten of Secaucus, N.J.; stepgrandsons James and John Council of Richmond, Va.; brothers Zeno, John and Sidney Hoots, all of Winston-Salem; sister Lou Angel of Greensboro; and seven nephews, 10 nieces and their children. The family will receive visitors at Everley-Wheatley Funeral Home, Sunday, Feb. 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Ivy Hill cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Flora Ella Brown Miller, 78, of 1225 S. Caldwell St. passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at the Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte. She was born July 20, 1922, in Clemmons to the late Saint Brown and Pearl Pringle Brown. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Annie M. (Larry) Campbell and Alice Myers of Winston-Salem; a son, Tommy Lee (Carolyn) Miller of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two devoted sisters, Lena C. Brown of New York City and Eva B. Hairston of Winston-Salem; a dear daughter-in-law, Bobbie H. Miller of Winston-Salem; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carlton A.G. Eversley officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. NANCE

Elizabeth Wall Nance was born in High Point, the daughter of Addison Eugene and Daisy Hyatt Wall, and spent her life there until her marriage to Richmond Reid Nance on April 16, 1937. Since that date, she and Reid have made their home in Winston-Salem. She and Reid joined Ardmore United Methodist Church in 1938 and remained until her death. She was active in the church as long as her health permitted. She was employed by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system for many years. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Nancy Nance Stahl and son-in-law Robert Stahl of Chandler, Ariz. Contributions may be made to Ardmore United Methodist Church, 630 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at Ardmore United Methodist Church.

ROBERSON

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. - Mrs. Nancy Parrish Roberson, 86, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at the Trident Medical Center in Charleston, S.C. She was born May 8, 1914, in Rockingham County to Emma Harvey and Wiley M. Parrish. Mrs. Roberson attended Parkway Chapel in Winston-Salem and retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system. She was a former resident of Heritage Woods Retirement Center. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon H. Clopton of Goose Creek, S.C., and Carolyn H. Rhoades of Highland Springs, Va.; a son, Roy M. Hughes of Highland Springs, Va.; a stepson, William M. Roberson Jr. of Clemmons; a stepdaughter, Donna Kay Villareal of San Antonio, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and a brother, L. Milford Parrish of Reidsville. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Forsyth Memorial Park, with Pastor Rod Sharp officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Irene Clara Rogalski, 84, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at her home. Mrs. Rogalski was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Cleveland, Ohio a daughter of the late John and Lottie Klauszinski. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Winston-Salem. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Theodore Rogalski of the home; three daughters, Barbara Mendat of the home, Marcia Finn of Akron, Ohio and Arlene Rumes of Lodi, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home is assisting the Rogalski family.

SLAWTER

STATE ROAD - Miss Brittany Leigh Slawter, 16, of Carriage Way passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, as a result of an automobile accident. Miss Slawter was born May 10, 1984, in Surry County to Michael Lee and Peggy Simmons Slawter. Miss Slawter was a student at Elkin High School where she was a cheerleader, a member of FTA, DECA and the yearbook staff. She was also a homecoming attendant and loved all sports, especially softball. Miss Slawter was a member of Mountain Park Baptist Church and worked part-time at North Elkin Tire. Survivors include her parents, Mike and Peggy Slawter of the home; a sister, Presley Taylor Slawter of the home; her fiancé, Jonathan Gray Hutchens and his parents Larry and Hilda Hutchens, all of Yadkinville; maternal grandparents, Frank and Dorothy Simmons of State Road; paternal grandparents, Elbert and Annie Mae Slawter of State Road; her uncles and aunts, Bobby and Susan Worth of Mount Airy, Peegie and Patricia Wagoner of State Road, Mark and Lisa Slawter of Elkin, Danny and Joy Slawter of State Road, Darryl and Judy Cleary of Chapel Hill and Mike and Jessica Boing of Asheville; and her cousins, Daniyel Kennedy, Ryan and Sydney Worth, Connor and Rachel Boing, Matthew, Paige, and David Slawter. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Mountain Park Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Mason, the Rev. Jesse Garmon and the Rev. Roger Hensley. Burial will follow at Mountain Park cemetery. Miss Slawter will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Friday evening at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
