PERSONAL HISTORY: Mrs. Hubbard was the widow of J. M. Hubbard and a daughter of the late Thomas and Perida Dayton Beaver. She was a native of Yancey County and retired from PPG. She was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church and the Hopewell Ruritan Club.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Her husband; her parents; and a son, James Dennis Hubbard

PERSONAL HISTORY: A native of Gaston County, Mr. Black was a son of the late David Dow Black Sr. and Odie Mae Pendleton Black. He was retired owner and operator, along with his wife Mallie, of Black’s Grill for more than 60 years. He belonged to the non-denominational Christian Fellowship. Mr. Black served in the Army during World War II.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: His wife of 66 years, Mallie Smith Black; his parents; two brothers; and four sisters

Shelby — Mrs. Frances Emma Adams, 73, of 1110 Dodd St., departed this life on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
FUNERAL: Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Genesis Funeral Services Chapel
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Thursday 30 minutes before the service at Genesis Funeral Service.
PERSONAL HISTORY: Born in Cherokee County, S.C., Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late Hendrick Tennell and her step-father and mother, the late Sam Grier Sr. and Ovella Grier. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, minister and life-long friend. She was a mother in the church of Abundant Life Faith Ministries and a faithful prayer warrior. She retired from Cleveland Regional Medical Center in the early 1990s.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Her father, mother and step-father; and three sons, Ronald L. Williamson, Michael D. Williamson and Monty T. Williamson
SURVIVORS: Her husband, Kenneth Adams; two sisters, Dorothy Turner and husband, Marshall, of Denver, Colo. and Mary Frances Grier of Shelby; a brother, Sam Grier of Passaic, N.J.; three sons, Derrick Williamson and Charles Williamson, both of Naples, Fla. and Kenneth Williamson of Charlotte; a daughter, Rita W. Strong of Shelby; a granddaughter Ms. Adams raised, Ranette Francine Williamson of Shelby; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one nephew; five nieces; and a host of many other relatives and friends

VISITATION: Tonight from 6 to 8 at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home and other times at the home of her parents, 1844 Kemp Circle, Shelby and her husband’s home, 1815 Melrose Drive, Shelby.
PERSONAL HISTORY: A native of Cleveland County, Mrs. Crawford was the daughter of Brian and Patty Hipps of Shelby and the loving mother of a beautiful, precious one-year-old son, the love of her life, Robert Mason Crawford. A graduate of Crest High School, she was a student at Cleveland Community College, where she was pursuing a degree in criminal justice.

Shelby — Mrs. Juanita “Nita” Benton Lefler, 97, formerly of Shelby, passed away in peace on Monday, May 29, 2006, at Loris Healthcare.
FUNERAL: Graveside service of remembrance Thursday at 3 p.m. at Sunset cemetery
Burial: Sunset cemetery
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
PERSONAL HISTORY: Mrs. Lefler was born in Laurinburg to the late William P. and Mary Gaddy Benton. She was a graduate of King’s Business College and retired from Gardner- Webb University where she was employed in the business office for 21 years. She moved to Tabor City in 1995. She was a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church and later, Tabor City Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Lefler was a generous and loving person. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Her parents; her husband of 27 years, Berry A. Lefler; a daughter, Betty Lefler Knox; and a sister, Mary Benton Wright
SURVIVORS: A son, Barry A. “Andy” Lefler II and his wife, Vicky, of Tabor City; a daughter, Brenda Lefler LeGrand and her husband, Homer Eugene LeGrand IV, of Melbourne, Australia; grandchildren, Christine LeGrand Lehman and husband, Jon, Homer Eugene “Chip” LeGrand V and his wife, Nicole, Alexander Benton LeGrand and his wife Laurie Ann, Amy Lefler Sanderson and her husband, David and John Christian “Chris” Mills and his wife, Jill; seven great-grandchildren; a niece; a number of nephews and cousins; and her beloved pet, Amos.
