Wilson Gray Disher
Wilson Gray Disher, 80, of Clemmons died December 13 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 13, 1925, in Forsyth County, a son of Carl David Disher and Elizabeth Fox Disher. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army, and was a retired truck driver with Spaugh Transmix Co. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia D. Shumate; and a sister, Helen D. Doub.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Georgia Ingool Disher of the home; stepson Bobby Ingool of Lexington; and a niece, Vikki Doub of South Carolina.
A graveside service was held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Ray Burke officiating.

Bill D. Williams
Bill D. Williams, 80, of Lewisville, formerly of Miami and Vero Beach, Fla., died December 15 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on Dec. 29, 1924, in Swaim County to Claude C. and Lelia Lyons Williams. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II in Guadacanal, Guam, Okinawa and China. From 1952 to 1979, he served as a special agent with the FBI. His assignments took him to Albany, N.Y.; Newark, N.J.; and Tampa, Fla. He was then assigned as a supervisor to the FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C. He then became assistant special agent in charge in Omaha, Neb., and the Washington, D.C., field offices. In 1974, he was promoted to inspector at the FBI Headquarters and subsequently served as agent in charge of the FBI offices in Kansas City, Mo., and Miami. Upon his retirement in 1979, he was appointed executive vice president and director of security of Southeast Banking Corp. in Miami.
Surviving are a daughter, Nora LaLlave and husband Skip of Lewisville; two grandchildren, Erica McIntosh and husband Kevin of Winston-Salem and Kyle LaLlave of Lewisville; two brothers, Bruce Williams of Las Vegas and Richard Williams of Mount Airy; and a sister Mary Kate Bartlett of Athens, Tenn.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Bill Teague officiating.

Joseph F. Messick
Joseph F. Messick, 68, a longtime resident of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., formerly of Winston-Salem, died December 15 at Fort Sanders-Sevier Medical Center. He was the owner and president of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in Pigeon Forge from 1994 to the present. He was a longtime member of Great Smoky Mountains Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.F. Messick; brother John David Messick; and sister Nancy Messick.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Janice Messick; sons, Randy Messick and wife Lisa of Clayton and Joseph D. Messick and wife Melissa of Sevierville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Millie Pollinger and husband Seth of Wake Forest, Hannah, Sarah and Rebekah Messick of Clayton and Erika, Morgan, Austin and Joshua of Sevierville; brothers, Bob Messick and wife Patsy of Lewisville, Harold Messick and wife Jane of Greensboro, and Tom Messick and wife Liz of Lewisville; sisters, Betty Matthews and husband Ed of Lewisville, Janice Palmer and husband Robert of Lewisville and Julia Hauser and husband Ed of Raleigh; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Funeral services were held in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville with Minister Al Behel officiating. Burial followed in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens.

Thelma Mae Gough Simmons
Thelma Mae Gough Simmons, 91, of Yadkinville died December 12 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born January 27, 1914, in Yadkin County to the late Calvin A. and Martha Ellen Chamberlain Gough. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her gardening, flowers, needlework and sewing for her family. She was the oldest member of Harmony Grove Friends Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Simmons; and brothers and sisters Stannie Caudle, Laura Cain, Eugene Gough, Pearl Swink, Claude Gough, Leroy Gough, Edith Renegar and Dewell Gough.
Surviving are her daughters, Carolyn Smitherman and husband Tom of East Bend; Janice Carroll and husband Larry of Boone; Martha Jessup and husband Dennis of Lewisville; and Susan Simmons of the home; grandchildren Diane Smitherman; Dina Hamad of Apex; Denise Peoples and husband Scott of Cary; LeAnne Hilderbran and husband Mark of Burlington; Larry Gene Carroll and wife Maegan of Boone; Brian Jessup of Winston-Salem; Christopher Jessup and wife Amber of Boone; great-grandchildren Abby Peoples, Ellie Peoples, Brianna Jessup, Ella Carroll and Bryant Carroll; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Harmony Grove Friends Church with Rev. Chris Flanagan and Rev. Lynn Faw officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Jerry Wayne Lawson
Jerry Wayne Lawson, 56, of Pfafftown died December 14. He was born June 17, 1949, in Forsyth County to William Thomas and Bobbie Boaz Lawson. He lived life to the fullest. He loved to fish, golf, ride his motorcycle, cruise in his 1965 Cadillac and spend time with his family, his friends and his dogs. He never stopped seeking knowledge, easily made people laugh and accepted people for who they were.
Surviving are his wife, Candace Lawson of the home; a son, Kane Lawson of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Lauren Lawson of Albuquerque, N.M.; his mother of Winston-Salem; and his beloved pets, Tug and Shadow.
A memorial service was held at the Village Inn in Clemmons.

Vernon Dallas Tillotson
Vernon Dallas Tillotson, 93, of Winston-Salem died December 17 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born September 4, 1912, in Stokes County, a son of the late William Plummer Tillotson and the late Nealie Frances Ferguson Tillotson. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. For eight years he was an officer with the Winston-Salem Police Department. He retired from Modern Chevrolet with 25 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Fry Tilloston, in 2004; sisters Lelia T. Reavis, Lillian T. Southern and Ella Mae Tillotson; and brothers Garland A. Tillotson, Raymond C. Tillotson and Lonnie R. Tillotson.
Surviving are his daughters, Carolyn Tillotson of Winston-Salem and Rosalyn Tart and husband Keith of Clemmons; and grandchildren Brian K. Tart and wife Ellen of Chesapeake, Va., and Brent Tart of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Burkhead United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathie Sherrill officiating. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Violet Mae Bodsford Hayes
Violet Mae Bodsford Hayes, 57, of Yadkinville, widow of the late Roger Dale Hayes, died December 13 at her home. She was born April 19, 1948, in Forsyth County to the late Louie Jacob Bodsford and Abbie Elizabeth Zimmerman Bodsford. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Eupher Zine Burton and Mary Reeves; and a brother, Louie Arnold Bodsford.
Surviving are a son, Roger Anthony “Andy” Hayes and wife Lucinda of Mount Airy; two grandsons, Tracy Hayes and Terry Hayes, both of Mount Airy; five sisters, Opal White of Kernersville, Elizabeth Motsinger of Clemmons, Martha Porter of Winston-Salem, Sandra Hunt of Winston-Salem and Debbie Wike of Granite Falls; and special friends Sheila Tritt of Mount Airy and Elsie Stout of Yadkinville.
Funeral services were held at Union Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Reggie Darnell and Rev. Shane Hayes officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Stella Faye Taylor Richardson
Stella Faye Taylor Richardson, 90, of Winston-Salem died December 13 at her home. The oldest of 10 children, she was born November 1, 1915, in Ashe County to Lee and Etta Barker Taylor. She was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Richardson.
Surviving are three daughters, all of Winston-Salem, DeEtta Swaim, Jean Pettus and husband Harvey and Carolyn Messer; five sons, Junior L. Richardson and wife Libby of Winston-Salem, Daniel Wayne Richardson and wife Zora Mae of Lewisville, Paul Richardson of Marietta, Ga., Charles Richardson and wife Betty of Winston-Salem and Herman Richardson and wife Dean of Lexington; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ardeen Boyer of Midlothian, Va., and Irene Gross of Illinois; and a brother, Delmer Taylor of Richmond, Va.
Funeral services were held in Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Bobby Roberson officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Juanita Mae Stainback Clarke
Juanita Mae Stainback Clarke, 85, of Angier died December 14 as a result of declining health with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born May 22, 1920, in Henderson to J.C. Stainback and Lillie Mae Owen. She resided 35 years in Lewisville and in the last nine years, lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Angier. She worked for the Henderson Dispatch as a book reviewer and society editor. She loved sharing English and American literature with high-school students. She taught at Bluestone High School in Skipwith, Va. and West Forsyth High School. She was the yearbook and newspaper adviser for many years and enjoyed the scramble to meet the deadline. She was a respected member of the teaching profession and of the Delta Kappa Gamma teaching society. Books were her favorite pastime. She enjoyed long regular camping trips to Florida and Myrtle Beach with Charlie and looked forward to making new friends and renewing old friendships. She was a competitive bridge player and enjoyed regular evenings with her friends. She was a devoted member of the church and supported religious book club discussions. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles E. Clarke Jr.; son Charles E. “Joe” Clarke III; parents J.C. Stainback and Lillie Mae Owen; stepmother Juanita “Miss J” Selvey Stainback; brother Alvin; and great-grandson Adam Bradley Smith Jr.
Surviving are her dedicated caregivers, daughter Marsha Quinton and husband Billy; brothers Bobby Stainback and wife Nancy and Sam Owen and wife Edith; sister-in-law Nancy Clarke; aunt Mamie Ruth Kearney; grandchildren Mindy Bass and Steve Quinton and wife Casey; great-grandson Connor Quinton; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Lewisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Turner and Rev. Jim Faggart officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Hattie Mae White Naylor
Hattie Mae White Naylor, 95, of Mocksville died December 16 at her home. She was born December 21, 1909, in Davie County to Frank and Ossie Tutterow White. She was a homemaker and was a member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Manuel Naylor; a daughter, Ruby Mae Naylor Boger; three sisters, Mabel W. Naylor, Inez White and Ethel W. Muddiman; two brothers, Buddy White and Joshua White; two grandchildren, Martin Reavis and Barry Reavis; and a great-grandson, Brandon Boger.
Surviving are a daughter, Edna N. Reavis of Mocksville; a sister, Hazel White Bailey of Clemmons; five grandchildren, Sheila Cohen, Mickey Reavis, Brenda Mecham, Lisa Stumbo and Johnny Boger; nine great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial followed in Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Gary Ray Creason
Gary “Fatboy” Ray Creason, 54, of Cooleemee died December 16 at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born September 29, 1951, in Rowan County to Nora Stanley Corbett, who preceded him in death, and Raymond Charles Creason. He was retired from Pyramid Construction, and he was a member of Woodleaf Baptist Church.
Surviving are his father of Salisbury; two daughters, Rachel Creason of Cooleemee and Rebecca Driscoll and husband Sean of Gastonia; a sister, Brenda Holleman of Cooleemee; two brothers, Ray Nifong Jr. and wife Bobbi of Clemmons and Billy Smith of Tennessee; a grandson, Caleb Link; two granddaughters, Rheannon Driscoll and Kaitlyn Driscoll; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Wilma Finney and Bo.
Funeral services were held at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chris Williams officiating. Burial followed in Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mocksville.

Ann Paschal Parrish Griffen
Ann Paschal Parrish Griffen, 56, of Winston-Salem died December 16 of complications related to multiple sclerosis and pancreatic cancer. She was the daughter of Mary Ann Paschal Parrish and the late attorney, Frederick M. Parrish Jr. She, along with her mother and Robert Helms, established Helms Parrish Properties in 1974, serving as public-relations and advertising director. She continued her real-estate career with Prudential Carolinas Realty throughout a 19-year battle with multiple sclerosis, remaining an integral contributor to the firm’s growth. Her creative wit extended far beyond her business ventures, as her charm and sense of humor inspired clients, colleagues, friends and family.
Surviving are her mother, Mary Ann Parrish; and her sister, Louise Parrish Bryan of Winston-Salem; her son, Adam Griffen and wife Breanna; her daughter, Catherine Frye and husband Nate; and her granddaughter, Peyton Frye, all of Clemmons; her niece and nephew, Anna Parrish Bryan and F. Lee Bryan IV of Winston-Salem; her aunt, Lucille Paschal Wofford; and cousin Paul Wofford III and wife Georgia of Burlington; cousins Ellen Jackson and husband Logan and Cecily Murray and husband Rick of Winston-Salem; and Tyrone Spease, a family friend of 32 years.
A memorial service was held at Centenary United Methodist Church.

Arthur Blaine Rose
Arthur Blaine Rose, 97, of Winston-Salem died December 16 at Silas Creek Manor. Born on May 4, 1908, in Surry County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Calle Donia Holcomb Rose. He was employed by Arista Cotton Mill and Hanes Knitting Mill. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 74 years, Eather Brooks Rose; a daughter, Helen Rose McClamrock; five brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are three daughters, Kathleen Rose Pancoast and husband Bob of Mocksville, Carol Rose Gough and husband Ralph of King and Linda Rose Phelps and husband Jimmy of Clemmons; three sons, Robert D. Rose and wife Becky of Candler, Ralph B. Rose and wife Joy of Canton and Arnold L. Rose and wife Carol of Clemmons; 26 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a niece, Lorene Hanna of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel in Clemmons with Rev. Bob Whitaker officiating.

Robie James Vernon
Robie James Vernon, 83, of Winston-Salem died December 18 at Forsyth Medical Center. The youngest son of the late Charles Dennis and Arena Frances McCraw Vernon, he was born June 30, 1922, in Carroll County, Va. He retired from Hunter Publishing Company. He served in World War II in the European theater. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church and his beloved Watchmen’s Sunday school class. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Vernon, Bertha Holder and Blanche McKinney; and eight brothers, Dixie, Edgar, Cleve, Clayton, Woodrow, Clyde, Marlie and Ray Vernon.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Helen Payne Vernon; two sons, Dennis James Vernon of Lewisville and Michael P. Vernon of Yadkinville; a granddaughter, Kala Marie Vernon of Evarts, Ky.; and special friends Bill and Betty Grooms of Lewisville.
Funeral services were held at Woodland Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Gammons officiating. Burial followed in Crestview Memorial Park.

Ola Medley O’Shields
Ola Medley O’Shields, 86, formerly of Landrum, S.C. died December 14 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late James Roland and Nettie Mosley Medley and wife of the late Elford Hugh O’Shields II. She was a member of Landrum First Baptist Church and retired from Bigelow-Sanford.
Surviving are a son, Elford Hugh O’Shields III and wife Bettie of Durham; a daughter, Diane O’Shields Burns and husband Wiley of Bermuda Run; five grandchildren, Lisa Burns Coleman and husband Craig of Clemmons; Robert O’Shields and wife Tristain of Siler City; Joye Burns Grabarczyk and husband Mark of Clemmons; Kellie O’Shields Webster and husband Bryan of Durham; and Kyla O’Shields Phipps and husband Bradley of Durham; eight great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Riley Coleman, Emily and Jack Grabarczyk, Bryce and Sean O’Shields, Micha Webster and Zachary Phipps; a brother, Carroll Medley of Gastonia; two sisters, Elaine Fox of Landrum and Mona Burrell of Campobello; and brothers and sisters-in-law Ervin and Geri O’Shields, Clifford and Amy O’Shields and Walter and Edith Mathis, all of Gramling.
Funeral services were held at Landrum First Baptist Church with Dr. Alastair Walker, Rev. Hugh O’Shields and Rev. Greg Davidson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Donald Milton Greer
Donald Milton Greer, 91, of Winston-Salem died December 15 at Salemtowne. He was born in Bloomfield, Neb., to Thomas Milton Greer and Addie Belle Huff Greer. He was a charter member at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church. In the early years of the church, he was chairman of the board of trustees, member of the choir, and usher in the Easter Sunrise Service in God’s Acre. He and his wife were also leaders of the youth fellowship. He was involved in his community serving as president of the PTA at James A. Gray High School. He retired from Durham Life Insurance Co. with 30 years of service and then worked with Camel Pawn Shop for the next 12 years. He loved to play bridge, golf, dance and watch sports. He was very proud of his son-in-law who was on the 1969 New York Mets World Championship team. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine Anderson Greer; and a sister, Virginia Miller.
Surviving are a daughter, Sylvia Cardwell and husband Don of Clemmons; a sister, Elaine Greer of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Sari Glass and husband Larry, Donald Gary and wife Linda and Brent Cardwell and wife Susie; and five great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Emily Glass and Kayla, Evan and Joey Cardwell.
Funeral services were held at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church with Rev. John D. Rights officiating.

William Ramsey Erb
William “Bill” Ramsey Erb, 55, of Lewisville died January 9 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born February 26, 1950, in Ada County, Idaho, to John and Dorothy Ramsey. He retired last August after more than 36 years in customer service with PSA/US Airways.
Surviving are two children, Jonathan Ramsey Erb and Elizabeth Noelle Erb, both of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Jon Von Erb, of San Francisco, Calif.; his fiancee, Linda Newman; and Jennifer and Daniel Newman, all of Lewisville.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

Judy Darlene DuBose
Judy Darlene DuBose, 38, of Winston-Salem died January 7 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Winston-Salem on June 15, 1967, to Oscar James DuBose Jr. and Betty Harrington DuBose. She was a former employee of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was a member of St. Paul Apostolic Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar Rayvon DuBose.
Surviving are four sisters, Cynthia DuBose of the home, Karen Dubose and husband Charles of Winton-Salem, Tangie Broady and husband Daryl of Clemmons and Tijuana DuBose of Winston-Salem; four brothers, Aaron DuBose and wife Linda and Darrell DuBose and wife Alice, all of Winston-Salem, Eric DuBose and wife Iris of Stuttgart, Germany, and Nathaniel Thompkins and wife Susan of Charlotte; three aunts, Hazel Jones, Ethel Harrington and Helen Soney, all of Winston-Salem; an uncle, Jenkins Burroughs and wife Gertrude of Lamar, S.C.; a host of nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Rheatwan DuBose, and devoted nephew Bryan DuBose, both of Winston-Salem; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul Apostolic Church of Christ with Bishop James L. Funderburke officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mary Ruth Mickey Holt
Mary Ruth Mickey Holt, 68, of Pinnacle died January 10 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born February 11, 1937, in Surry County to Sidney and Opal Ayers Mickey. She loved cooking and entertaining, gardening, ceramics, family gatherings and traveling and was an avid sports fan. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 17-plus years, and was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Oscar Holt; and a brother, Robert R. Mickey.
Surviving are two daughters, Lynn Enscore and friend Shirley Gamble of Winston-Salem and Kay Tucker and husband J.D. Tucker of Pinnacle; a granddaughter, Misty Blevins Lansing and husband Willie; a great-grandchild, David Blevins; four sisters, Martha Garrison and husband Alvin of Lewisville; Ruby Embler and husband Donald of Winston-Salem; Ann Winstead and husband Grover of Whitsett; and Ellen Hodges of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Wayne Mickey, King; Ron Mickey and wife Pam, all of Lexington; and David Mickey and wife Donna of Advance; 16 nieces and nephews; 22 great-nieces and great-nephews; and a great-great nephew.
Funeral services were held at Cox-Needham Chapel with Rev. Arthur Livengood and Rev. Charlie Martin officiating. Burial followed at Mount Zion United Methodist Cemetery.

James Mark Blackburn Sr.
James Mark Blackburn Sr., 48, of Clemmons died January 15 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born June 14, 1957, in Raleigh to James Donald and Carolyn Inman Blackburn. He was a member of Grace Baptist Temple, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a professional engineer. He was employed at Wake Forest University as assistant director of facilities and was also a member of S.O.R.T.
Surviving are his wife, Sara McSparran Blackburn; a son, James Jr.; a daughter, Bonnie, all of the home; his mother of Raleigh; and a brother, Greg Blackburn and wife Channey of Cape Carteret.
Funeral services were held at Grace Baptist Temple with Pastor Ed Sears officiating. Burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.
