Richard T. Innes – Boiling Spring Lakes
Richard T. Innes passed away suddenly on April 24, 2012. He was 74 years old and originally from New York but a resident of Boiling Spring Lakes since 1997.
Mr. Innes was preceded by his father John Innes, mother Elsie Kimmerle, brothers Guy and Robert Innes. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, April Innes; his daughter Lorraine Diottaviano and spouse Joseph of Boiling Spring Lakes; daughter Carrie Mew and spouse Dana of Paduka, Kentucky; sister Carol Marchais of Little River, SC; brother John W. Innes of Ocala, Florida; grandsons Joseph and Thomas Diottaviano, Dakota and Elijah Mew, granddaughters Shannon Mew, Misti Mew-Turk, and Melina Rome. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great grandchildren.
Richard’s favorite remark was, “They never made a decent movie since John Wayne.”
He was loved by his family and will be missed.
Funeral services will be 7:00 pm Friday, April 27, 2012 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service with Reverend Jeff Saggus officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Bett McSwain Rogers — Southport
Bett McSwain Rogers age 80 of Southport died April 23, 2012 at her home
Mrs. Rogers was born in Davidson County, NC on January 28, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Walter Carl McSwain and Ruth Everhart McSwain. She was a very talented artist entering many art shows in the surrounding areas. She was a member of the Associated Artist of Southport.
She is survived by a brother, Larry McSwain of High Point, NC; a nephew, Michael McSwain and wife Clare of Kernersville, NC and her faithful canine companion, Gabriel.
No services are planned.

Gloria Siegel Durst Bender – Southport
Gloria Siegel Durst Bender, 86, of Southport, North Carolina, died peacefully on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Dosher Memorial Hospital.
Gloria was born August 26, 1925 in the Bronx NY, the daughter of the late Morris and Dora Siegel. Her husband of 18 years, Abe Durst, her husband of 24 years, Bill Bender, and her sister Golda, also preceded her in death.
While Gloria lived in HillsdaleNJ, she worked as a bookkeeper at Otis Elevator, BVD, and Western Union. After retiring, she and her husband Bill traveled the U.S. in their 5th wheel trailer, finally settling in Palm Harbor, Florida. While Bill did his woodworking Gloria went back to work part time doing telephone surveys for the Nielsen Company. After Bill died Gloria moved to Top of the World in Clearwater, Florida until moving to St. James Plantation in Southport, North Carolina to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Bev (Durst Hunt) & Charlie Mastrovich. Gloria, always a people person, made the decision to move to Carillon Assisted Living inSouthport in 2009.
Gloria most enjoyed Mah Jongg with the ladies, going to the Sweepstakes, where she could play for hours on the same $20, Bingo, reading, and dining out as often as she could.
She is survived by her daughter Beverly Mastrovich and husband Charles of St. James Plantation, her son Mark Durst and wife Sherry of Park Ridge NJ, grandson Adam Durst ofFort LauderdaleFL, granddaughter Casey (Durst) Molitor and husband Tim of Collegeville PA and their new baby and her great grandson, Mason Alexander Molitor.
The family will hold a celebration of Gloria’s life at the Founders Club at St. James Plantation on Friday, April 27th, 2012 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Memorials contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060 or to the Hillsdale New Jersey Fire Department, 383 Hillsdale Ave., Hillsdale, NJ 07642.

Ryan Chase Dilworth — Supply, NC
Ryan Chase Dilworth age 17 of Supply died Saturday April 21, 2012
Ryan was born in Brunswick County on November 18, 1994. He was a Junior at West Brunswick High School and a member of the JROTC. He was employed at Main Street Restaurant and Boomer’s Rentals of Holden Beach.
He is survived by his parents, Frank and Renee Dilworth of the home; two sisters, Ashley Bennett Crocker and husband James of Supply, Megan LeAnn Dilworth, US Navy stationed in Mayport, Florida; grandparents, Gary and Roberta Grissett of Supply, Pamela Claridy of Little River, SC, Francis William Dilworth Jr. and wife Marie of Hatfield, PA., Maurice Galloway and wife Linda of Supply; great grandparents, Princess Robinson of Supply, George I. Hager of Lansdale, PA; aunts and uncles, Brandi, Jeremy, Hayley of Supply, Scott, Danielle, Jennifer, Zach, Tiffany, Jonathan of Lansdale, PA, Jamie, Erick, of Durhan, NC, Alan of Hillsboro, NC, Sabrina, Eric of Hope Mills, NC.; numerous cousins and extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday April 27, 2012 at 3pm at Sharon United Methodist Church with Reverend Bobby Norton and Reverend Gerald Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in New Life Christian Fellowship Cemetery, Supply.
Pallbearers will be, Mike St. George, Chris “Beef” Benton, Bartley “Boomer” Boone, Corey Jones, Bryant Hogan, William Kelly Todd, Tyler Bradshaw, Michael Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin “A Boy” Robbins, Tyler Bizzel.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at Sharon United Methodist Church and other times from the home of Gary and Roberta Grissett, 2308 Weeping Oak Rd., Supply

Dennis A. Matteotti — Southport
Mr. Dennis A. Matteotti, age 62, of Southport, died April 20, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center.
Mr. Matteotti was born November 17, 1949 in Carrolltown, Pennsylvania and was the son of the late Albert and Peggy Puskar Matteotti.
He was a manager for the federal government for 33 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Southport and a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree. Dennis received his undergraduate degree from Thiel College and his graduate degree from George Washington University. He loved all sports and was a faithful fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. He served as a volunteer for the Southport food pantry.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam Matteotti, brother, Arthur Matteotti and wife Beth of Oak Park Illinois, and a wonderful uncle to Jack and Reagan, Mariam’s son, Richard Croson and family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 2:00pm, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Reverend Trent Watts officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Peacock Newnam and White Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Lung Association, Knights of Columbus of Southport, or Southport Food Pantry.

Charles William Puleo – Supply
Charles William Puleo, age 82, of Supply died Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Puleo was born in Uniontown, Pa on September 13, 1931, son of the late Sebastian and Balbina Puleo. Mr. Puleo retired from the U.S. Army, served in the Merchant Marine and worked at CP&L for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by his brother Anthony Puleo, a sister Lannie Paul, and grandson Sebastian Charles Puleo.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Dora Puleo of Southport, son Jimmy Puleo of Supply, daughter Rose Goins and husband Dwayne of Southport, brother Frank Puleo of Pennsylvania, sister Ida Lee Mosley of Kansas, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 7 step grandsons.
Graveside services will be at 12 noon on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Cape Fear Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held at Peacock-Newnam White Funeral Home, Southport, on Thursday from 6 til 8p.m.

Frank Joseph Grande — Boiling Spring Lakes
Frank Joseph Grande, age 83, of Boiling Spring Lakes died Monday, October 21, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Mr. Grande was born in New York, NY on July 9, 1930, son of the late Frank Thomas and Rose Montana Grande. He grew up in New York City, and The United States Merchant Marine Academy where he earned his BS in mechanical engineering. Mr. Grande achieved the rank of Lieutenant in the United States Navy. He had worked at Western Electric in New York. Mr. Grande was married icon in 1955 to Patricia Ann Kennedy. They relocated and lived in Baltimore for 25 years. Mr. Grande loved boating and was a member of the Baltimore Yacht Club. He loved fishing, playing golf, guitar, and took up playing the keyboard at age 75. Mr. Grande entertained at the Boiling Spring Lakes Community Center and Dosher Nursing Center. He was loved by all. Mr. Grande was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Ann Kennedy Grande and his brother John Grande.
Survivors include his wife Mary Grande, four sons, Frank Joseph Grande, Jr. and wife Lisa of West Hills, California, Mark Grande and wife Suzanne of Annapolis, Maryland, James Grande and wife Diane of Glen Arm, Maryland, Rob Grande and wife Lisa of Owings Mills, Maryland; two step-daughters Ginger Whaley and husband Mark of Wilmington, and Yvonne Moore of Boiling Spring Lakes; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Kirk, Lauren Grande, Samantha Grande, Brian Grande, Rachel Grande, Shelby Grande, and Allison Grande.; three step grandchildren, Brandy Graham, Chase Phillips, and Sarah Hamrick.
A memorial service will be at 12 noon Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel in Southport with Reverend Fred Roberts officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Brunswick Senior Resources, Inc., Meals on Wheels, PO Box 2470, Shallotte, NC 28459.

Marlene R. Latimer — Caswell Beach
Marlene R. Latimer, 81, passed away on October 17, 2013 at Duke Medical Center. She split her time between Caswell Beach, NC and Brooksville, FL.
Marlene was born in Torrington, CT on February 24, 1932. Marlene leaves behind her husband and best friend, Howard, with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage in August. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Henrietta (John) Maffucci and brother Alan (Charla) Rossi; two children, Laurie (Gary) Cuddy and son Howard (Marianne ) Latimer; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Marlene was the first person in her family to graduate from college. She attended the University Of Connecticut in Early Childhood Education 1953, earning a BA and then received her Master’s Degree, summa cum laude, from Central Connecticut State College. Mrs. Latimer was named Connecticut Teacher of the Year during her 25 year public school teaching at the Vernon School System in Connecticut.
Marlene was a fabulous cook, loved to play golf and most of all enjoyed her family and friends beyond all else. As a devout Lutheran, Marlene practiced her faith every day. She is with her Lord and Savior. Marlene is sadly missed, but the memories she made will be with us forever.
A 2:00 memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Southport, NC for family and friends.

Steve Groce — St. James
Steve Groce, 58 of Southport, NC, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from cardiac arrest. He leaves behind his wife Peggy of St James, NC, his father, Doug Groce Sr., brothers Doug Groce Jr. and wife Tracey, Chris Groce and wife Kelly, all from Jacksonville, Florida. He also leaves behind eleven beautiful nieces and nephews. Steve’s mother, Ruby predeceased his demise. May he rest in peace and know that he was loved.
Steve was born on May 18, 1955 in Greensboro, NC. Steve graduated from the University of Georgia; received an MBA; worked in internet technology for thirty years, then retired in 2008. Steve was a proud an avid Georgia Bulldog alumnus. Traveling, golfing, playing pool, preparing taxes for others and participating in the volunteer efforts of Friends of Sea Turtles – Oak Island were some his interests.
During his career Steve lived in many places and was happy to retire back to his home state, North Carolina. He was a loving husband, son, brother and uncle. He will be missed for his hearty laugh and quick wit.
There will be a memorial service on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport, NC at 11:00 am with a reception to follow.

Martha A. Gamble Howle – Oak Island
Martha A. Gamble Howle, 77 of Oak Island passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at her home.
Mrs. Howle was born December 19, 1935 in Cleveland County, NC the daughter of the late Zeb Vance Gamble and Maven Marie Queen-Seabolt. She was of the Baptist faith and had lived in Oak Island for the past 20 years having retired from Barclay’s in Charlotte. Mrs. Howle was a loving grandmother who had previously worked at Oak Island Medical and Southport Pulmonary Medicine. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Howard “Hoot” Howle and a daughter Ardis Howle.
Surviving are two sons Resse Howle and wife Lisa of Durham, and Terry Howle and wife Debra of Charlotte; a brother James W. Gamble Sr. and wife Anne of Florence, SC; two sisters Betty Jackson and husband Johnny of Lake Wateree, SC and Harriett Conn and husband Jimmy of Cheraw, SC and two grandsons, Logan Howle and Heath Howle.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend Neil Grimes officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence, SC at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28462.

Linda Minges Aten — Boiling Spring Lakes
Linda Minges Aten, 50, died Monday, October 13, 2013 in Southport, NC. She was a native of Gaston County, NC and the daughter of the late Gene and Anita Stewart Minges.
Linda was a teacher for 21 years,she was graduate from ASU, North Brunswick teacher of the year in 2002 and 2003. She was head coach of the North Brunswick ladies Scorpion golf team and played second flute in the Brunswick County concert band. Linda was also a two time Worthy Matron of the Federal Point Chapter 361 Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Dan W Aten, step-daughter; Renee Aten, three brothers; Gene M. Minges Jr. and wife Linda, Michael S. Minges and wife Dianah, Gary B. Minges and wife Becky. One sister; Patricia L. Minges,seven nieces and nephews and five great- nieces and great- nephews.
Family and friends will gather at brother Gary and Linda’s residence at 1001 Rogosin Blvd in Lowell, NC.
A Memorial service is being held at Peacock-Newman & White Funeral Home in Southport, NC on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 3:00 PM.
Also, on Thursday, October 17, 2013 a Memorial Service will be held at North Brunswick High School at 6:00PM.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00PM Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with a visitation to follow the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Scorpions Ladies Golf Team 114 Scorpion Drive Leland, NC 28451 or to the Brunswick Bands PO Box 10163 Southport, NC 28461.
