William E. Hutchinson (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

William Edwin “Ed” Hutchinson, 74, of 6291 Edelweiss Place, Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Hutchinson was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a deacon and a choir member at Village Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Village Baptist Church by the Rev. William L. Owens. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mr. Hutchinson is survived by his wife, Ann F. Hutchinson of the home; a son, Richard Hutchinson of Mobile, Ala; a daughter, Traci H. Dunn of Fayetteville; a brother, G.R. Hutchinson Jr. of Fayetteville; a sister, Eloise H. Wooldridge of San Antonio; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Village Baptist Church building fund, 906 S. McPherson Church Road, Fayetteville, N.C. 28303.

Miss Betty McKinnon (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

ROCKINGHAM -- Miss Betty McKinnon, 47, of 156 Galestown Road died Wednesday.

Miss McKinnon was a trimmer at Perdue Farms, Inc.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in St. John Baptist Church in Ellerbee by the Rev. O’Neal Tyson and elder Everett Williams. Burial will be in McMalloy Cemetery in Derby. Arrangements are being handled by Nelson Funeral Service.

Miss McKinnon is survived by a sister, Glossie M. Pemberton of High Point; and a brother, Ira J. McKinnon of Raleigh.

Mrs. Terah S. Carter (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

GODWIN -- Mrs. Terah Olive Strickland Carter, 84, of Route 1 died Thursday in Golden Years nursing home in Falcon.

Mrs. Carter was a member of Bluff Presbyterian Church in Wade where she won the Presbyterian Women’s Honorary Life Membership award. She helped operate J.C. Carter Grocery Store. She was also Dietary Supervisor of Golden Years Nursing Home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bluff Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Robert Yoder. Burial will be in Old Bluff Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Mrs. Carter is survived by two daughters, Martha Carter of the home and Beverly St. John of Colonial Heights, Va.; two brothers, Percy M. Strickland of Godwin and Hubert Strickland of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters, McLean Page of Godwin and Grace Williams of Autryville; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home in Dunn and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Old Bluff Trust Fund, care of Grace Heath, P.O. Box 234, Wade, N.C. 28395.

Mrs. Mary Sue Martin (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

RAEFORD -- Mrs. Mary Sue Martin, 59, of Raeford died Friday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.

Mrs. Martin was a member of Christ United Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Crumpler Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Dalls Moralas and Sam Owens. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband, Billy R. Martin Sr. of Raeford; a son, Billy R. Martin Jr. of Raeford; two daughters, Kathy M. Phillips and Martha K. Phillips, both of Raeford; her mother, Sarah M. Faucette of Raeford; a brother, Fred B. Faucette of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Frances F. Bradley of Anderson, Ala; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Christ United Baptist Church, 3849 U.S. 401 Business, Raeford, N.C. 28376.

Mrs. Nadine B. Harrell (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

RAEFORD -- Mrs. Nadine Brisson Harrell, 80, of Raeford died Friday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Medical Center in Pinehurst.

Arrangements will be announced by Crumpler Funeral Home.

James ‘Jim’ Brafford (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

HOPE MILLS -- James Alton “Jim” Brafford, 79, of 3528 Hill St. died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Mr. Brafford was a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Burlington Mills. He also retired as a school crossing guard from Baldwin Elementary School.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Hope Mills United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jay Winston. Burial will be in Gilmont Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Hamilton-Porter Funeral Home.

Mr. Brafford is survived by two daughters, Linda Pettit of Ashburn, Va., and Kathy Rolland of Hope Mills; two brothers, Alfred “Al” Brafford of Hope Mills and Paul Brafford of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Margaret Kaufman of Columbia; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the church.

Ms. Cora R. Frame (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

SEVEN LAKES -- Ms. Cora Rust Frame, 78, of Seven Lakes, formerly of South Ruffner Road, Charleston, W.Va., died Thursday in First Health Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in J.E. Johnson Funeral Home in Charleston by the Rev. Don Hardman. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Frame is survived by a son, James E. Frame of Honolulu; three daughters, Helen D. Townsend of Seven Lakes, Mary F. Grove of Schenectady, N.Y., and Barbara A. Hardman of Southern Pines; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Boles Funeral Home in Seven Lakes and one hour prior to the service Tuesday.

LAURINBURG -- Ms. Flossie McNair, 82, of 810 McGirt’s Bridge Road died Friday in her home.

PHILADELPHIA -- James Thomas Easterling, 56, of Philadelphia, formerly of Scotland County, N.C., died Friday in Allegheny University Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Morris Funeral Home of Laurinburg, N.C.

The family will receive friends at the home of Gussie Boogan, 923 Richards St., Southern Pines, N.C.

W. Clyde Page (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

DUNN -- William Clyde Page, 74, of 805 E. Canary St. died Friday.

Arrangements will be announced by Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home.

Ms. Mable R. Platt (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

RAEFORD -- Ms. Mable Rose Platt, 75, of 314 Platt Road died Thursday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Zion Christian Pentecostal Holiness Church in Wagram by Bishop George McKoy and the Rev. Lee E. McKoy. Burial will be in the Platt family cemetery.

Ms. Platt is survived by a son, Herman Gilmore of Fayetteville; five sisters, Margaret Daniels of Raeford, Dorothy Patterson of Stone Mountain, Ga., Thelma Johnson of Goldsboro, Evangelist Gladys Wright of Laurinburg and Queen E. Dixon of Fayetteville; and three brothers, Eddie Platt of Atlanta, Hector Platt of the home and Roosevelt Platt Jr. of Raeford.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Buie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ada L. Oxendine (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Ada L. Oxendine, 82, of 3603 N.C. 711 died Thursday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Oxendine was owner and operator of Oxendine’s Grocery.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Tabernacle Baptist Church by the Rev. Henry W. Oxendine. Burial will be in Lumbee Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Oxendine is survived by two sons, James “Tony” Oxendine and Julian P. “Buddy” Oxendine, both of Lumberton; two daughters, Jean O. McCormick of Maxton and Barbara Jordan of Lumberton; a sister, Lory Amons of Lumberton; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home in Pembroke.

Mrs. Juanita J. Drake (Dated Saturday, June 13, 1998)

Mrs. Juanita Jones Drake, 52, of 824 Medlo Drive, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Smith Chapel Free Will Baptist Church by elder Elijah Fulcher III. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Drake is survived by her husband, Joseph Drake; four daughters, Sharon Jones, Teresa Drake, Traci Claiborne and LaShauna Drake, all of Fayetteville; a son, Joseph Drake of Fayetteville; her parents, John and Eula Jones of Fayetteville; a brother, John Jones of Harvey, La.; and six grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

MANHATTAN, N.Y. -- Mrs. Emma Johnson Cromartie, 69, of 101 W. 147th St., formerly of Delway, N.C., died Thursday in Cabrini Medical Center.

RED SPRINGS -- Mrs. Mary C. Patterson, 66, of 106 Harrington St. died Monday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church by the Revs. Chris Edmonds and J.R. Leach. Burial will be in Macks Chapel Church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by L.E. Floyd Funeral Home.

Mrs. Patterson is survived by her husband, Gaston L. Patterson Sr. of the home; four sons, Gaston L. Patterson Jr. and Charles R. Patterson, both of Durham, and Wilton B. Patterson and Ronnie M. Patterson, both of Red Springs; three daughters, Wanda P. McRae of Washington, Elma P. Mitchell of Red Springs and Mary E. Patterson of Goldsboro; and three sisters, Helen Shipp of Winston-Salem, Mamie Watson of New York and Shirley McNeill of Red Springs.

Gertrude K. Allen (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

SOUTHERN PINES -- Mrs. Gertrude Knoblock Allen, 105, of Southern Pines died Wednesday in St. Joseph of the Pines.

Mrs. Allen is survived by a son, Laird R. Allen Jr. of Selingsgrove, Pa; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home and Crematory.

VASS -- James Edward Blake, 73, died Thursday in his home.

Mr. Blake is survived by his wife, Ruby M. Blake; two daughters, Linda B. Key and Wanda B. Cummings, both of Vass; a brother, Harvey Blake Jr. of Lakeview; a sister, Carrie B. Lassiter of Pinehurst; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Dr. Robert L. Stuber (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

SOUTHERN PINES -- Dr. Robert Leo Stuber, 68, of Southern Pines died Wednesday in his home.

Dr. Stuber retired from Moore Regional Hospital, where he was Medical Director of Laboratory Services and a pathologist. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

A mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Dr. Stuber is survived by his wife, Jenny Stuber; five sons, Joseph Stuber of Mount Pleasant, S.C., John Stuber of Deep Gap, Dr. Stefan Stuber of Omaha, Neb., Jerry Stuber of New Bern and Jimmy Stuber of Calhoun, La.; two daughters, Joanne Tugwell of Wake Forest and Dr. Susan Phillips of Rocky Mount; a sister, Joan Frericks of Galloway, Ohio; and ten grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Powell Funeral Home.
