Lena Craver Plowman
Lena Craver Plowman, 95, of Clemmons died March 4 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born October 24, 1909, in Forsyth County to the late Addison Rowan and Fannie Virginia Jones Craver. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and had a love for animals. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death in 1999 by her husband, Sanford L. Plowman; four brothers; four sisters; her beloved dog, Tiger; and her favorite cat, PeeWee.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends and family.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Patrick Winfrey officiating. Burial followed at Westlawn Memorial Gardens.

Eloise Sheets
Eloise Sheets, 85, died March 1 at Clemmons Village. The youngest of seven children, she was born July 11, 1919, in Brookhaven, Miss., to John Lewis Arthur and Mary Elizabeth Ritchie. She married Dan Sheets, a career Army man, in 1945. They were married for 32 years, and spent several military assignments overseas. They retired to Fayetteville, where she pioneered a career in real estate. She moved to Winston-Salem at age 81. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Daniel Sheets, and her son, Arthur Dean Sheets.
Surviving are a son, Daniel Sheets; a daughter, Sharon Fonville-Frye; grandchildren Rebecca and Jeff Sheets of Charlotte, and Robert and Danny Frye of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Shelley May of Atlanta, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Jacob Sheets, also of Charlotte.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Stewart E. Ellis officiating. A graveside service was held at LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

Betty Lou Sutphin Stover
Betty Lou Sutphin Stover, 72, of Pfafftown died March 5 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born August 14, 1932, in Surry County to the late Everette E. and Elsie Money Sutphin. On June 17, 1949, at Franklin Heights U.M.C. in Mount Airy, she married Robert E. Stover. She was a member of Brookstown U.M.C. in Pfafftown. She retired in 1993 from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system as a teacher’s assistant. She also had a home in Sparta, where she and her husband enjoyed the many wonderful people who had become their friends.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Robert E. Stover of the home; a son, Mitchell Stover of Sparta; two grandchildren, David and Caroline Stover, both of Winston-Salem; a sister, Mickey Woodson and husband Wayne of Newport News, Va.; a brother, Charles Buddy Sutphin of Taylorsville; two nieces; and three nephews.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the eulogy being presented by Dorothy Fender. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Erleene Edwards Miller
Erleene Edwards Miller, 87, formerly of King, and most recently residing at Arbor Acres (United Methodist Retirement Community), died March 3 after several years of declining health. She was born February 8, 1918, in Stokes County to Milas Frank Edwards and Annie Wall Edwards. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Rural Hall, and retired as a seamstress from Davis Department Store in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Miller, who died March 7, 1991; and a daughter, Phyllis Miller Beckner, who died in July 1999.
Surviving are a daughter, Ginger M. Miller of Lewisville; a son, Fred C. Miller Jr. and wife Nancy of Greensboro; a son-in-law, Jesse H. Beckner of King; five grandchildren, Kathy Beckner Burton and husband Nick of King, Mark Beckner and wife Tara of Rural Hall, and Caroline Miller, Mary Elizabeth Miller and Anne Miller, all of Greensboro; and four great-grandchildren, Logan Burton, Lindsey Burton, Caustin Beckner and Colby Beckner.
A graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park with Rev. Evelyn M. Lemons and Rev. Douglas Suggs officiating.

James Edward Fish Sr.
James Edward Fish Sr., 73, of Winston-Salem died March 4 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born July 7, 1932, in Haywood County to Fred Wesley and Ruby Lowe Fish. He was a carpenter by trade. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Fish; and two sisters, Susie Duval and Lena Joe Vandiver.
Surviving are his former wife, Betty Jean Charles of Clemmons; two daughters, Janie F. Hobson of King and Jeanie F. Ireland of Winston-Salem; three sons, James E. Fish Jr. of Clemmons and Timothy C. Hubbard and Thomas C. Fish, both of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Chris Pendry of Ohio, Amanda Ireland of Chapel Hill, Charles E. Surber of Winston-Salem, Justin R. Surber of Mooresville and Thomas C. Fish Jr. of Winston-Salem; a great-grandson, Conner Pendry; a brother, Gary Doyle Fish of Winston-Salem; a sister, Pauline F. Beasley of Walkertown; and several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Chapel with Rev. Tony Brown officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Walter Allen Williams
Walter Allen Williams, 81, of Clemmons died February 28. He was born October 15, 1923, in Newburgh, N.Y., to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Williams. He served during World War II. He was married December 19, 1948, to Gloria Marcantonio. He was a vice president of B.F. Goodrich Corp. His faith guided his life. What he valued most was his wife of 53 years and his four daughters and their families. He was most passionate about golf and boating. He was a member of the St. Lawrence golf team and was a member of the Quincy Yacht Club Power Squadron. He was an avid reader and was involved with local and national politics. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Gloria.
Surviving are his daughters , Jean Pujol and husband Carroll of Nicholson, Ga., Kathy Blumenthal and husband Mike of Naperville, Ill., Barbara Scantland and husband Bill of Lewisville, and Sue Toler and husband Ted of Columbia, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park with Father Michael Bye officiating.

Lillian Pettyjohn Holcomb
Lillian Pettyjohn Holcomb, 91, of Pfafftown, formerly of Thurmond, died March 5 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. She was born May 21, 1913, in Wilkes County to Watson and Ada Carter Pettyjohn. She was a homemaker known for her cooking, quilting and care for others. She was a member of Charity United Methodist Church and for the past several years attended Old Town Baptist Church. She was a former member of Austin Meal Site BROC Senior Nutrition Center, an organization which she and her husband, Denver Holcomb, helped to found. She was elected CAG Queen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Denver King Holcomb, who was an educator for the school system for 43 years; her second husband, Jack Holbrook; five brothers, Worth Pettyjohn, Brady Pettyjohn, Raymond Pettyjohn, Arvil Pettyjohn and Harvey Pettyjohn; a grandson-in-law, Mike Talley; and a stepgranddaughter, Denise Minton.
Surviving are a son, Tommy P. Holcomb and wife Ruby of Thurmond; a stepson, Randall F.Holbrook and wife Nikki of Elkin; a daughter, Eileen Edwards of Pfafftown; three stepdaughters, Maxella Walsh of Hickory, Millie Settle and husband Harvey of State Road, and Linda Darnell and husband Jack of Elkin; a brother, Howard Pettyjohn and wife Evon of Lynchburg, Va.; a sister, Ruth Newman and husband Bud of Littlestown, Pa.; four grandchildren, Neal Holcomb and wife Lisa, Tim Holcomb and wife Michelle, Anita Cook and husband David, and Marty Edwards and wife Angela; and eight stepgrandchildren, Eddie Settle and wife Shelia, Jeff Walsh and wife Denise, Rodney Walsh and wife Michelle, Ryan Holbrook, Drew Holbrook, Chad Holbrook, Jones Darnell and Julie Baker; nine great-grandchildren, Drew and Colby Holcomb, Hailey and Colt Holcomb, Brooke and Brandon Talley, Chip Cook and Zach and Cameron Edwards; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at Charity United Methodist Church with Rev. Rex Cranfill and Dr. Rick Speas officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Gladys Frances Zimmerman
Gladys Frances Zimmerman, 80, of Winston-Salem died March 4. She was born February 22, 1925, in Davidson County, the daughter of Reck S. and Lessie Everhart Hege Sr. She retired from Western Electric after several years of employment. She was a member of Pinedale Christian Church and was a member of the “Golden Girls” Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, Wesley Lee Zimmerman; and a brother, R.S. Hege Jr.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Troxell and husband Larry of Winston-Salem; her son, Richard W. Zimmerman and wife Nancy of Kernersville; her grandchildren, Michael Lee Troxell and wife Debra of Winston-Salem, Angie Grace and husband Todd, also of Winston-Salem, and Chris Zimmerman of Kernersville; her great-granddaughters, Anna and Sarah Troxell and Emily, Laura and Sarah Grace; her brothers, Ben Hege of Georgia and John Hege of Clemmons; and a sister, Louise Pierce of Texas.
Funeral services were held at Pinedale Christian Church with Bill McKenzie and Bob McCaskill officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Robert Wilson Crockett
Robert “Bob” Wilson Crockett, 91, of Wytheville, Va. died February 27 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Kimball, W.Va., and was reared in Max Meadows, Va., where he attended school and church until his family moved to Winston-Salem, where he attended school at Clemmons. In later years, he returned to Wytheville, where he owned a wholesale produce trucking company. He was co-owner of Mick-or-Mack Grocery and Pen-Bob Restaurant. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, a member of Wytheville Masonic Lodge No. 82, Kazim Shrine Temple in Roanoke, Va., Lynn Commandery No. 9 Knights Temple and Wythe Royal Arch Chapter No. 51. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Fitz and Annie Mae Smith Crockett; his wife, Mildred Curley Wood; brothers Earl B. Crockett and Jackie Crockett; and sisters Willie Vinita Woods, Carolyn Stoots and Mildred Meyers.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Frances Morehead Crockett of Wytheville; daughter Barbara Ann Whitley and husband Ray of Clemmons; sister Artie Mae Pinkard Stone of Cocoa, Fla.; grandsons Lloyd Whitley and wife Dru, David Whitley and wife Robin, and Brad Whitley and wife Jocelyn; great-grandson Carson; step-grandsons Garrett and Tyler; great-granddaughters Brooke and Christy; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held in the Grubb Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Donald Stansell and Rev. Oscar “Sonny” Ayers officiating. Entombment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Rural Retreat, Va.

Marita Justice Covington Williams
Marita Justice Covington Williams, 86, of Rural Hall died March 5 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born October 21, 1918, in Forsyth County to the late Robert Yancy and Pauline Styers Covington. She studied nursing at St. Leo’s Hospital in Greensboro. She had a great passion for music and studied violin at Salem College. As a lifelong member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Rural Hall, she sang in the choir for 65 years. She was a member of the Mozart Club, where she sang Handel’s Messiah for 45 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Grey Williams, in 1998.
Surviving are three daughters, Sherron Andrew and husband John R. of Wilmington, Melessa Martin and husband Robert L. of Greensboro, and Melanie Rogan and husband Robert of Lewisville; seven grandchildren, Natalie Jarman, Alison Baxley, Rebecca Lennon, Shannon Martin, Kathryn Blair Martin, Jonathan Martin and Shannon Rogan; two great-grandchildren; a number of loving nieces and nephews; and her faithful dog, Maggie.
Funeral services were held at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Rural Hall with Rev. Carl Fisher, D.D., and Rev. Donald Herb officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mary L. Armitage
Mary L. Armitage, 91, of Nevada. Mo. died February 23 at Nevada Regional Medical Center. the daughter of Bertes and Alma Lash McClain, she was born February 3, 1914, in Golden Gate, Ill. She enjoyed a religious upbringing, having parents who were both ordained Methodist ministers. She was united in marriage to Everett Armitage on June 8, 1938, in Lawrenceville, Ill., and he preceded her in death in January 1993. She and her husband moved to Nevada, Mo., in 1946 and established Armitage Appliance and Hardware. She was an active member of Nevada United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Soroptimist Club, Domestic Science Club and Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Richard Armitage; and a brother, James McClain.
Surviving are a son, Donald Armitage and wife Mary of Lewisville; a daughter, Suzanne Drummond and husband Paul of New Franklin, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Armitage of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Clyde McClain and wife Rosemary of Texas; a sister, Martha Miller and husband John of Rio Rancho, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Nevada United Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Burial followed at Newton Burial Park.

Glenola Wooten Huff
Glenola Wooten Huff, 86, of Beaufort died February 27 at home. She was born in Winston-Salem to Grover and Flora Stewart Wooten. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Huff; a son, Archie Huff; a sister, Geneva Hicks; and brothers, Thomas Wooten, G.C. Wooten Jr. and Hershel Wooten.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Tilghman and husband Carl of Beaufort; a son, William Huff and wife Sandy of Safety Harbor, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Betty Huff of Clemmons; sisters, Cynthia Winfrey, Osie Jennings and husband Roy, and Doris Tedder, all of Winston-Salem; a brother, Herman Wooten and wife Juanita of Winston-Salem; sisters-in-law, Joyce Wooten and Doris Sattenfield, both of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Jason Tilghman and wife Carolyn, Amanda Lewis and husband Rodney, Wendy Fowler and husband Donald, Bryce Huff and wife,Elizabeth, Teresa Quimby and husband Joe, Richard Huff and Alison Huff; and great-grandchildren, Logan Fowler, Sean Fowler, Kira Quimby, Zoe Huff and Reagan Tilghman.
Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church, Beaufort, with pastor the Rev. Jack Lee officiating. A graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem.

Hilda Oliver Ketner
Hilda Oliver Ketner, 82, of Clemmons died March 29 at Willowbrook Health Care Center in Yadkinville. She was born September 11, 1922, in Macon County to Charles Francis and Emily Jane Holbrooks Oliver. She was a member of Ketner’s Chapel Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; six sisters; and her husband, Robert Herman Ketner in 1982.
Surviving are her daughter, Emily K. Jones and husband Roger of Clemmons; two grandsons, Dean Jones and wife Debbie of Kernersville and Brian Jones of King; and four great-grandchildren, Miranda, Dillon, Nichole and Erika Jones.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Don Sloan officiating. Burial followed in Ketner’s Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery.

Gary Eugene Wood
Gary Eugene Wood, 55, of Winston-Salem died March 31. He was born February 5, 1950, in Forsyth County to the late Carl Eugene and Fayrene Johnson Wood.
Surviving are three sisters, Donna Bolen of Clemmons, Beth Huggins of Kernersville and Mari Binkley of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Joe Binkley of Walnut Cove and Sam Binkley of Winston-Salem; a special aunt, Mary Childress; and a special uncle, Herbert Johnson.
A graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park.

Linda Mahaffey Peoples
Linda Mahaffey Peoples, 83, of Winston-Salem died March 29 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Peoples; and her son, Ricky Peoples.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Peoples, and a son, Claude Peoples, both of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Kathryn Hamilton and husband Michael of Prince George, Va., Jeff Peoples and wife Gretchen of Southport and Brian Peoples of Houston, Texas; four great-granddaughters, Heather, Kristen and Sydney Hamilton of Prince George, Va., and Caroline Peoples of Southport; and a brother, Hayden Mahaffey and wife Dorothy of Clemmons.
A graveside service was held at Parklawn Memorial Park with Chaplain George Byrum officiating.

Margaret F. Whiteheart
Margaret F. Whiteheart, 86, of Winston-Salem died April 2 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born October 9, 1918, in Forsyth County to James Garfield and Mattie Riggs Furches. On April 28, 1939, she married Harrison C. Whiteheart, who preceded her in death on April 28, 1987. She was employed with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. from 1942 to 1947 while her husband served overseas. She later resumed a career with Mother and Daughter Department Store in the bridal department until the store closed. She was also preceded in death by a sister, James Ruth Talbert; and a brother, Fred Mebane Furches.
Surviving are two sons, James Kenneth Whiteheart and wife Judy of Mocksville, David Lee Whiteheart and wife Susan of King; a daughter, Phyllis Whiteheart Henson and husband Tim of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a twin brother, James Marvin Furches of Clemmons; and a special companion, Buffy, of the home.
A graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park with the Rev. Charles McFrederick officiating.

Nattalie Wavonne Wagoner Evans
Nattalie Wavonne Wagoner Evans, 42, of Lexington died March 31 at her home. She was born February 25, 1963, in Forsyth County to Charlie Carson Wagoner and Mary Ann Holt Wagoner. She was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker. She was also a collector of angels. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Chris Carson Wagoner.
Surviving are her husband, Barry Lee Evans of the home; daughters Sherrie Luanne Evans of Lexington and Mary Elizabeth Evans of Pinnacle; a brother, Tucker “Mark” Wagoner and wife Ashley of Washington state; a sister, Teresa Wagoner Ayers and husband Randy of Lexington; three grandchildren, Michael Evans, Jacob Pennington of Lexington and Cheyanne Taylor Sizemore of Pinnacle; a nephew, Mason Emil of Washington state; two nieces, Abby Woods of Lewisville and Christy Ayers of King; a great-nephew, Matthew Ayers of King; a great-niece, Brittany Norton of King; a godson David Bullins, a god-grandson, Lucas Bullins, and a goddaughter, Amy King, all of Winston-Salem; and several other sisters and brothers-in-law.
A graveside service was held at Parklawn Memorial Park.

Maria Teresa Zakamarek
Maria Teresa Zakamarek, 50, of Advance died March 28 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born March 25, 1955, in Walbrzych, Poland, to Wladyslaw and Aleksandra Kwiecien Wlodarczyk.
Surviving are her husband, Kazimierz Zakamarek of the home; three sons, Robert Misior and wife Anna of Clemmons, and Casey and Peter Zakamarek of the home; stepchildren Joanna and Andrzej Zakamarek of Advance; and two brothers, Edward Urbanowicz of Elisabeth, N.J. and Jerzy Wlodarczyk of Mocksville.
A funeral mass was said at Holy Family Catholic Church by Rev. Brian Cook. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Rhea Maxine Forshey Nickels
Rhea Maxine Forshey Nickels died March 27 at Hospice House in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenna Wagoner and P.D. Forshey; and two brothers, Ralph and Lyle Forshey.
Surviving are four children, Sue Stitcher of Clemmons, David Nickels of Kittrell, Clara Cox of Martinsville, Va. and Myra Thompson of Kernersville; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Hugh Forshey of Cambridge, Ohio; and a host of friends in Derby Line, Ver., where she lived for 12 years.
Funeral services will be held in Beverly, Ohio.
