Mrs. Margaret J. Stiles (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

PINEHURST -- Mrs. Margaret June Stiles, 67, of Pinehurst died Friday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Pinelawn Memorial Park chapel. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Pines.

Mrs. Stiles is survived by three sons, Wayne K. Stiles of Pennsville, N.J., Robert W. Stiles of Louisville, Ky., and Bruce E. Stiles of Pinehurst; a daughter, Caroline D. Mack of Carthage; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sandhills Hospice, P.O. Box 1956, Pinehurst, N.C. 28370, or to the American Cancer Society.

Elliott W. Scott (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

HAMLET -- Elliott W. Scott, 47, of 406 Seaboard St. died Thursday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. W.O. McCullough. Burial will be in Ellerbe Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Scott is survived by two sons, Michael A. McKinnon of Durham and Joseph A. Barino of Hamlet; a daughter, Elreta M. Scott of the home; his father, Eddie Scott of Camden, N.J.; nine brothers, Burlester Scott, Randolph Scott, Christopher Scott and Darren Scott, all of Hamlet, Steve Scott of Rockingham, Vincent Scott of Laurinburg, Charles Scott and Earl Scott, both of Camden, and Clayton Scott of La Vergne, Tenn.; and six sisters, Marsha S. Brown, Loretta S. Goodwin and Rhonda Scott, all of Hamlet, Judy Scott of Pennsauken, N.J., Diane S. Boyd of Maxton and Angela Scott of Rockingham.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at John Charles McNeill Funerals in Rockingham.

Venson D. Martin (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

ROCKINGHAM -- Venson Dollar Martin, 83, of 122 Evening Lane died Friday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by John Charles McNeill Funerals.

Le Roy R. Lenz (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

WHISPERING PINES -- Le Roy Robert Lenz, 72, of 17 Country Club Boulevard died Saturday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

He was a retired utilities engineer.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Powell Funeral Home chapel in Southern Pines by the Rev. Chris Moore-Keish.

Mr. Lenz is survived by his wife, Jean Lenz; a daughter, Virginia Donovan of Acworth, Ga.; a sister, Audrey Webster of Southport, Conn.; and one grandson.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Duke University Medical Center, Cancer Research Dept., Durham, N.C. 27710.

Donnie Pone Jr. (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

Donnie Pone Jr., 64, of 18451 N.C. 87 W., Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Paye Funeral Home.

Everett M. Fanning (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

COATS -- Everett Mason Fanning, 84, of 55 Eagle Road died Sunday.

The funeral will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Jesse Moony. Burial will be Wednesday in Troy, Mich.

Mr. Fanning is survived by his wife, Frances W. Fanning; a daughter, Patricia F. Yauch of Warrenville, Ill.; a son, Robert M. Fanning of Ashford, Conn.; a stepson, Wayne Armstrong of Woodstock, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coats Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 297, Coats, N.C. 27521.

Mrs. Lillian F. Minnis (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

DURHAM -- Mrs. Lillian Fitzpatrick Minnis, 77, of 4513 Lazy River Drive died Thursday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dafford Funeral Home chapel in Dunn by Elder Roland T. McKoy. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Dunn.

Among Mrs. Minnis’ survivors is a brother, the Rev. George Fitzpatrick of Spring Lake.

Henderson G. Moore (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

Henderson G. Moore, 94, of 635 Edgehill Road, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Norrington AME Zion Church in Lillington by the Rev. Michael Bell and Elder Lynn Graham. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Dafford Funeral Home of Dunn.

Mr. Moore is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Curry and Thelma Curry, both of Fayetteville; four sisters, Mary Stokes and Molly Coley, both of New York, Willa Robinson of Dunn and JoAnna McKoy of Baltimore; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Moore Union Free Will Baptist Church in Mamers.

Mrs. Myrtle Holliday (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

DUNN -- Mrs. Myrtle Holliday, 86, of Dunn died Sunday in Highland House Nursing Home in Fayetteville.

Arrangements will be announced by Dafford Funeral Home.

Henry L. Williams (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

ROBBINS -- Henry Lee Williams, 93, of 121 Frye St. died Sunday in Pinelake Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage.

Mr. Williams was a member of First Baptist Church and retired as manager of Belk department store after 27 years. He was a Mason, a Shriner and a former Robbins town commissioner. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a former volunteer fireman.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Ernest Ferrell. Burial will be in Marshville City Cemetery in Marshville.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Willie E. Williams; a sister, Mary W. Phundstein of Charlotte; and three brothers, Dwight Williams and Clay Williams, both of Charlotte, and Perney Williams of Paradise, Calif.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Kennedy Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 400, Robbins, N.C. 27325.

Thomas T. Carter (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

Thomas Truman Carter, 51, of Route 33, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Cedar Creek Church of God by the Rev. Franklin Hunt. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Tucker & Sons Funeral Home.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Issie J. Carter; two daughters, Dana Carter of Chapel Hill and Danielle Carter of the home; four sons, Eric Carter and Cory Carter, both of the home, and Robin Johnson and Rodney Johnson, both of Autryville; four sisters, Elsie Duggins, Retta McDonald and Cletter Hart, all of Fayetteville, and Helen R. Anderson of Turkey; four brothers, John Carter, James Carter, Eugene Carter and Bobby Carter, all of Fayetteville; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the church.

James A. Smith (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

McCOLL, S.C. -- James Albert Smith, 61, of McColl, formerly of Pembroke, N.C., died Saturday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Betty H. Smith of McColl; five sons, Dale Smith of Clio, Robert Smith, Jason Smith and Eric Smith, all of McColl, and Brent Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; a foster son, Johnny Clark of McColl; his mother, Ella M. Smith of McColl; three brothers, Elmer Smith, Pete Smith and Percy Smith, all of McColl; three sisters, Alene S. Roller of McColl, Mary Goins of Rockingham, N.C., and Jessie Bryant of Fayetteville, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Rogers Funeral Home.

Peter ‘Pete’ Simmons (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

LAKE WACCAMAW -- Peter Dale “Pete” Simmons, 36, of Lake Waccamaw died Saturday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Worthington Funeral Home chapel in Chadbourn by the Rev. Billy Hardee. Burial will be in Union Valley Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Simmons is survived by his mother, Esther B. Simmons of Bladenboro; his father, Peter “Pete” Simmons of Whiteville; a brother, Darrell Simmons of Whiteville; a sister, Julie Wilson of Whiteville; his paternal grandmother, Edith R. Simmons of Whiteville; and his maternal grandmother, Edith H. Bowen of Whiteville.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Thomas ‘Tom’ Poe Jr. (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

SANFORD -- Thomas Wesley “Tom” Poe Jr., 68, of 5715 Carbonton Road died Saturday in Central Carolina Hospital.

Mr. Poe was a member of the North Carolina Soybean Association and United States Feed Grain Council. He was a member of Jonesboro Presbyterian Church, where he was president of the Sunday school class. Mr. Poe was chairman of the Lee County Drug Action committee and was a volunteer fireman for Northwest Pocket Fire Department. He received the James B. Hunt Governor’s Award for Volunteer Leadership in 1994.

The funeral with Masonic rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Jonesboro Presbyterian Church by the Rev. David McDonald. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Mr. Poe is survived by his wife, Norma F. Poe of Durham; three daughters, Pamela P. Pepper of Winston-Salem, Kay Poe of Durham and Susan Poe of Sanford; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

Mrs. Annie M. Carter (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Annie Mae Carter, 57, of 301 S. Walnut St. died Sunday.

Scott Jackson (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)

Scott Jackson, 17, of 524 Waterbury Drive, Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
