Horn Lake, Mississippi - Kim Morgan Cone, age 38, of Horn Lake, MS, died Thursday, May 15, 2003 at her residence in MS. She was born in Baltimore, MD, daughter of Dennis Morgan of Severna Park, MD, and the late Shelia Parker Morgan. She was the wife of Rudy Cone of the residence.

Mrs. Cone is survived by four daughters, Dana and Jamie Curtin both of Elizabeth City, NC, Jennifer Badke of Elizabeth City, NC, April Cone of Horn Lake, MS; one brother, David Morgan of Elizabeth City, NC; two grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, R.J. Cone.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel Tuesday from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. At other times the family will be at the residence of Mrs. Vera Eusantos, 702 Egan Lane, Elizabeth City, NC.

Beulah Colston

Elizabeth City, NC - Mrs. Beulah Marie Smith Colston, age 73, of 905 Center Street, Elizabeth City, NC died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Albemarle Hospital. Mrs. Colston was born in Dare County, NC, the daughter of the late Charlie and Katie Crain Smith and was the widow of Fred Colston, Sr.

Mrs. Colston is survived by one daughter, Kathy, of Columbia, NC; one stepson, Fred Colston, Jr. of Arkansas; one sister, Martha Ann Craddock of Manns Harbor, NC; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 25, 2003, at 11:00 AM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC with the Rev. Bobby Winslow officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home following the service.

Richard Collier
US Navy

OS1 (SW) Richard Shane Collier, age 34 of 405 West Colonial Avenue, Elizabeth City, NC died Thursday, November 27, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Collier was born in Montgomery, Alabama, the son of Robert Eugene Collier and Myra Wilkenson Crawford and was the husband of Leah Marie Bopp Collier. He was an operation specialist with the U.S. Navy.

Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Collier is survived by one daughter, Hannah of Elizabeth City, NC; one son, Cameron Collier of Deatsville, AL, his step mother, Sue Collier of Aiken SC, his step father, Greg Crawford of Eclectic, AL; his maternal grandmother, Annie Wilkinson of Prattville, AL, his paternal grandparents, Adolph and Bobbie Collier of Prattville, AL, one brother, Christopher Collier and wife, Jessica, of Prattville, Alabama. Also surviving are three nephews, Devon, Keller, Ian Collier of Prattville, AL, three aunts and uncles, Danny and Debbie Collier, Steve and Dianna Collier and Bill and Mina Simmons, five cousins, Karen and Randy Cochran, Theresa and Chris Connelly and Nelson Creamer and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Sunday, November 30, 2003, from 4:00 until 6:00pm at Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC. The body will be sent to Prattville Memorial Chapel, Prattville Alabama for funeral services and burial.

Jacqueline Rogers Collier

Jacqueline “Jackie” Rogers Collier, age 71, of 1381 Waterlily Road, Coinjock, NC, died Friday, September 26, 2003 at Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Portsmouth, VA, daughter of the late Henry Wiehrs and Elsie Grubbs Rogers, and was the widow of Leslie Warren Collier, III. She was a independent real estate agent and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Coinjock Chapter #218 OES.

Mrs. Collier is survived by two sons, Leslie Warren Collier, IV, and wife Susan of Roswell, GA, and Wiehrs Lewis Collier, and wife Cydney of Narragansett, RI; a sister, Janet Rogers of Waterlily, NC; and four granddaughters, Zara, Virginia, Hannah, and Leigh Ann Collier.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at 2:00 pm in Hampton Cemetery in Waterlily, NC, with Mr. Wayne Twiford officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 and at other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the Lower Currituck Volunteer Rescue Squad Inc., P.O. Box 486, Grandy, NC 27939.

Thomas Collie

Aydlette, NC - Thomas Edward Collie, age 63, of 168 Scaff Lane, Aydlett, NC, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at his residence. He was born in Reidsville, NC, son of the late Edward Bernard Collie and Catherine Carter Collie, and was the husband of Susan McAlister Collie of the residence. Mr. Collie was a self employed Realtor, and served in the US Navy, and a member of Sharon United Methodist Church.

Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Michael Scott Collie of Carbondale, ILL, Anthony Thane Collie of Aydlett, NC, and Carl Edward Collie of Clayton, NC; one sister, Patricia C. Barksdale of Sunderlin, VA; four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday, April 10, 2004 at 11:00 AM in Sharon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Castle officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Sharon United Methodist Church, PO Box 182, Poplar Branch, NC 27965 or to the Albemarle Hospice, PO Box 189, Elizabeth City, NC 27907-0189. Jack Eugene Colley
Native of Birmingham, AL

Jack Eugene Colley, age 76, of 102 Elm Circle, Moyock, NC, died Monday, May 3, 2004 in the Albemarle Hospital. He was a native of Birmingham, AL, and the husband of Arlene Winifred Colley of the residence. He was a retired diesel mechanic with the U.S. Navy.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sandra Jean Smith of Visalia, CA, and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 11:00 AM in Moyock Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Bougher officiating. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Grace L. Coleman
Native of Virginia Beach, VA

Mrs. Grace Louise Bateman Coleman, age 66, of 545 Stafford Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Virginia Beach, VA, daughter of the late Joseph Thaddeus Bateman and Grace Leigh Perkins Bateman, and was the wife of the late William Edward Coleman, Sr. Mrs. Coleman was a member of London Bridge Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Eva Marie Browder, and Banita Jean Ciccarelli, both of Elizabeth City, NC; one son, William Edward Coleman, Jr., of Virginia Beach, VA; one brother, Joe Douglas Bateman of Townsend, MT; and ten grandchildren. Mrs. Coleman was predeceased by one son, Noah Joseph Coleman.

A graveside funeral service will be Friday, April 16, 2004, at 11:30 AM in Princess Anne Memorial Park Cemetery, Virginia Beach, VA, with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and at other times at the residence of the daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Browder, 545 Stafford Road, Elizabeth City, NC.

Lewis Cobb
Native of Halifax County, NC

Lewis Cobb, “Colonel Cobb”, age 80, of 1104 Raleigh Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday, September 19, 2004, at his residence. A native of Halifax County, NC, he was the son of the late Ernest Cobb and Mattie Sue Vaughn Cobb, and the husband of Marie Banks Cobb of the residence. He was a retired longshoreman from Hampton Roads Shipping, and a Baptist.

Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Lorraine Sims of Grandy, NC, Pamela Nowak of Elizabeth City, NC, and Linda Kinne of CA; two sisters, Stella Dunnaway of Chesapeake, VA, and Mary Edenfield of Tavares, FL; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and an aunt, Nellie Davis and husband Harry of Suffolk, VA.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Moyock Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Scott Pollard officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the American Kidney Association, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

Helen Louise Cobb

Helen Louise Pierce Cobb, age 92, formerly of the 200 block of East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died at Winslow Nursing Home, Tuesday, July 8, 2003. Mrs. Cobb, a native of Bertie County, NC, was the widow of George Hathaway Cobb and the daughter of the late Louis Sutton Pierce and Frances Elizabeth Daniels Pierce. She retired with 25 years from J. C. Penny and was a member of Elizabeth City Church of Christ and also a member of the Loyal Ladies Bible Class.

Mrs. Cobb is survived by a daughter, Anne Cobb, and husband L. E. “Jeff”, Cherry of Elizabeth City, NC; a son, H. Lynn, and wife Peggy, Cobb of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren, Lawrence E. “Eddie” Cherry, Jr., of Elizabeth City, NC, Cheryl Cherry Gerber of Hertford, NC, Pam Cobb Patrick of Woodbridge, VA, Nicole Cobb, John Cobb and George H. Cobb all of Virginia Beach, VA; and six great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be Friday, July 11, 2003, at 11:00 AM at Elizabeth City Church of Christ on Highway 17 North with ministers Mike McNamara and Randy Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Colerain, NC. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the residence of the daughter, Anne and Jeff Cherry, 1801 Vine Street, Elizabeth City, NC.

SAMUEL LEON CLIVER III

VIRGINIA BEACH – Samuel Leon Cliver III, 65, passed away June 1st, 2004 in Chesapeake General Hospital. A native of Natick, NJ., Sam retired from the Navy after 26 years. He was a founding father of the SouthEast Mustang Club and was just made a lifetime member. He also belonged to the VFW#1211, DAV, American Legion, a CB Club, the Creeds Ruitan Club, and was a lifetime member of the Blackwater Volunteer Rescue Squad.

He is survived by his very devoted wife, Sylvia and his mother, Alice Bremer; his step children Pamela and Bill Vogel, Marie and John Jenness, Melody Elliott, Anthony and Cindy Cutrell, Linda and Bobby Riffle, Butch Coker; brothers Richard and Paulette Bremer, Craig and Pam Bremer.

The family will be at Twifords Funeral Home, 929 South Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake Thursday June 3th, 2004 from 6:00 –8:00 PM; other times at 6528 Blackwater Rd, Virginia Beach, Va. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 4th, 2004 at 11:00 AM in the Blackwater Baptist Cemetery, 6000 Blackwater Rd., Virginia Beach, Va. with the Reverend Mike Jones and the Reverend Wesley Baum officiating, and full military honors.

Sam was very proud of his military service in the United States Navy and his Rescue Squad service. He loved his Mustangs and racing; His favorite driver was always Bill Elliott.

Kay Clark

Kay Wallace Clark, age 66, of 1714 Pine St., Elizabeth City, NC, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, in Guardian Care Nursing Home. She was born in Northumberland County, PA, daughter of the late George Wallace and Ethel Lenker Wallace. She was the wife of John Clark of the residence.

Mrs. Clark is survived by two daughters, Jonna Leary of Elizabeth City, NC, and Samantha Lindsay of Miami, FL; three sons, Darren and Anthony Clark both of Millville, PA, and Sean Clark of Bloomsburg, PA; one sister, Ethel Shirk of Northumberland, PA; one brother, George “Skip” Wallace of Northumberland, PA; six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be make of ALS Association, 27001 Aguura Road, Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301.

Alma Christopher

Kill Devil Hills - Alma Reynolds Christopher, 73, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Britthaven Nursing Home in Nags Head. Mrs. Christopher was born in Providence, VA, was retired from General Electric as an assembly line worker and was a Baptist. She was the daughter of the late Sebe S.A. Reynolds and the late Gracie Bonds Reynolds and the wife of Earl V. Christopher of Portsmouth.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Kathy Walke of Kill Devil Hills; one son, Keith V. Christopher of Portsmouth; two sisters, Billie Hoffman of Dublin, VA and Eunice Gray of Suffolk, VA; three brothers, R.J. Reynolds of Covington, VA, Arnold Reynolds of Wytheville, VA and Noah Reynolds of Maryland; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Wilson Conwell officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Outer Banks Baptist Church, 216 W. 1st Street, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.

Naomi Aydlett Chesson
Retired Pasquotank Clerk of Court

Mrs. Naomi Aydlett Chesson, age 99, of 400 Lakefront Drive, Talladega, AL, died Monday, January 26, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. Chesson, a native of Currituck County, NC, was the widow of William Simon Chesson, Jr., and the daughter of the late Nathaniel Taylor Aydlett and Lydia Duncan Aydlett. She was Clerk of Court for Pasquotank County for thirty five years and a member of Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church.

Mrs. Chesson is survived by a daughter, Peggy Chesson, and husband Jack C., Crosswell of the residence; a sister, Idella Harrelson of Southport, NC; two brothers, Sanford P. Aydlett and W. Gaither Aydlett both of Elizabeth City, NC; three grand children; and six great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be Thursday, January 29, 2004, at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC with the Rev. Dr. Walter J. Harrelson and the Rev. Dr. Bob Crisp officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home and immediately after the funeral service in the funeral home lobby.

Mildred M. Cherry

Chesapeake – Mildred Merrill Cherry, 84, died January 13, 2004 at Chesapeake General Hospital. Mrs. Cherry was born in Beaufort County, NC to the late Albert and Mattie Small Merrill. She was the widow of John W. Cherry Sr.

Survivors include four daughters, Hellen Gattis of Norfolk, Elizabeth Parker of Moyock, NC, Mary Bradshaw of Crowley, WY, Nancy Cherry of Chesapeake; one son John Cherry Jr. of Columbia, NC; one brother, Leland Merrill of Athens, GA; seven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Twifords Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake with Chaplin Bron Forrester officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the American Heart or Kidney Association.

Elizabeth Charlton

NAGS HEAD, NC - ELIZABETH JEAN CHARLTON, 86, of Nags Head, died, Tuesday, October 21, 2003, in Nags Head. Mrs. Charlton was born in Marquette, Mi and was a retired homemaker. She was a member of Saint Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church and a member of Dare County VIP Club and a graduate of Graveret High School and Northern Michigan College.

She was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Fassbender Robertson and the wife of the late Fred R. Charlton.

Surviving are two daughters; Margaret Thompson of Jarvisburg and Susan Stein of Kill Devil Hills, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Mrs. Charlton was predeceased by two brothers; Rev. J. William Robertson and Henry Robertson.

A service of remembrance will be held at Saint Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church, Friday, October 24, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. by The Rev. Charles E. B. Gill. Twiford’s Colony Chapel Manteo is assisting the Charlton family.

Rodney Neil Chappell
Native of San Diego, CA

Rodney Neil Chappell, age 47, of 104 Cedar Circle, Moyock, NC, died Monday, June 22, 2004, at Chesapeake General Hospital. Mr. Chappell, a native of San Diego, CA, was the son of Glenna Louise Sturm Chappell of Moyock, NC, and late Denver Lee Chappell and was the widower of Lauren Beth Fetman Chappell. He was a Little League Baseball Coach for many years and loved to fish and ride motorcycles. He had various family and friends in California, you all know who you are.

Besides his mother he is survived by one son, Shaun Chappell and his fiance Nichol Stone of Moyock, NC; two sisters, Glenna Louise Chappell and her husband David Bays of Kinston, NC, and Cheri Chappell Crum and her husband Loran Ray Crum of Moyock, NC; and two brothers, Mark Wayne Chappell and his wife Aleeta of Chesapeake, VA, and Lawrence Michael Chappell of Pine Top, AZ. He was predeceased by a brother, Denver Lee Chappell, Jr.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 2:00 pm at the residence of Gregg and Corey Lankford, 1485 Tulls Creek Road, Moyock, NC.

Lucille H. Chappell

Lucille Holmes Chappell, age 81 of 113 Little River Run Rd., Hertford, NC died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Tyrrell County, NC; daughter of the late Lyman and Maybelle Hayman Holmes and was the widow of Charles Edward Chappell. She worked at Apricot Manufacturing in Hertford and was a Methodist.

Mrs. Chappell is survived by a daughter, Joyce Bateman of Hertford, NC; two sons, Ronald Chappell of Hertford and Donald Chappell of Elizabeth City; five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, August 1, 2003 at 11:00 am in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home immediately following the service and at other times at the residence of Donald and Bonnie Chappell, 1729 N. Road St., Elizabeth City, NC.

Iola Chappell

Elizabeth City, NC - Iola Morris Chappell, age 86, of 1711 Lobell Lane, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, February 14, 2003, in Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Chowan County, NC, daughter of the late Theodore Franklin and Sarah Byrum Morris, and was the widow and of the late George H. Chappell, Sr. She was a retired manager of 7-11 Stores and was a member of West Minister Presbyterian Church in Chesapeake, VA.

Mrs. Chappell is survived by one son, Wade Chappell, and one sister, Grace Wright both of Elizabeth City, NC.

Graveside service will be Monday, February 17, 2003, at 2:00 PM in Rosewood Cemetery, Va. Beach, VA. The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel Sunday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Rebecca V. Chaplin

Rebecca Marie Vandevender Chaplin, age 54, of 108 Wedgewood Drive, Moyock, NC, died Friday, October 24, 2003, at her residence. Mrs. Chaplin, a native of Circleville, WV, was the wife of Kenneth Richard Chaplin, Sr., of the residence and the daughter of the late Adam Henry Vandevender and Bessie Marie Vandevender Vandevender. She was a homemaker and a Southern Baptist.

Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Bessie Zurface of Moyock, NC, and Alice Barefoot of Kill Devil Hills, NC; two sons, Kenneth Chaplin, Jr., of Richmond, VA, and Eric Chaplin of Moyock, NC; two sisters, Patricia Griffin of Newport, RI, and Kathy Eastman of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Fred Vandevender of Newport, RI, and Jun Vandevender of PA; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Monday, October 27, 2003 at 11:00AM at Moyock Baptist Church with the Rev. Vic Ramsey officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence of the daughter, Bessie Zurface, 125 Willow Drive, Moyock, NC.
