H. Stamey Gunn
PELHAM, N.C. - H. Stamey Gunn, 77, 5808 Parks Springs Road, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 1996, in Stratford Nursing Center of Danville, Va., following several months of declining health.
Born in Caswell County, he was a son of Ernest L. and Mary Hicks Gunn.
He was married
to Dorothy H. Gunn, who died April 30, 1992.
Educated in the Caswell County schools, he was employed as a maintenance supervisor for the county until his retirement. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Daniel of Pelham; a sister, Virginia Anderson of California; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service, with military rites, will be conducted 2 p.m Sunday from Prospect United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilkinson. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Hooper Funeral Home in Yanceyville, and other times at the residence.
Ila Stultz
PELHAM, N.C. - Ila May David Stultz, 84, of 204 Dusty Lane, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 1996, at her home. She had been in declining health for several weeks.
Born April 13, 1912, in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of Ben David and Conelius A. David.
She spent most of her life in the Danville, Va., area, and had lived in New Mexico.
Prior to her retirement in 1977, she worked as head of housekeeping for Danville Regional Medical Center. She was a past member of DRMC's retirement organization, and was of the Baptist faith.
She was first married
to Lewis Thomas Dameron Sr., and later married
Jack Stultz, who died in 1977.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Hogan of Pelham; and Romona Albright of Roanoke, Va.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Rose Marie Austin; two sons, Thomas Lewis Dameron and Lewis Thomas Dameron Jr.; three brothers, Lonza David, Roy David and Elva David; and one sister, Lena Wadell.
The graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in the mausoleum at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Robert Vermillion.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times will be at the residence.
Carl Butler
BLANCH, N.C. - Carl Davis Butler, 73, 3209 N.C. Highway 62 North, died Monday, Aug. 12, 1996, in Midwest Regional Hospital in Midwest City, Okla.
Born June 21, 1923, in Caswell County, he was a son of Elwood and Mamie Smith Butler.
He was married
to Elizabeth Thompson Butler, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Royal Textile Mills Inc. for 36 years.
He was a member of Griers Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder. He was also a member of Leasburg Hunting Club.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marines from 1944 to 1946.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Jo Butler Crawford of Louisburg and Bonnie B. Wilson of Burlington; a son, Carl Davis Butler Jr. of Oklahoma; a step-daughter, Terry Nelms of Timberlake; a step-son, Edwin Barker of Semora; two sisters, Catherine B. Bass and Margaret B. Hamlett, both of Leasburg; a brother; Melvin Butler of Leasburg; two grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Carline Butler, and by a brother, Walter S. Butler.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. today from Griers Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William Chappell. Burial will be in Hebron Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

William Hinton
EDEN, N.C. - William Joseph Hinton, 13, 145 River Ridge Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 1996.
Born in Winston-Salem, he was a son of Joseph A. Hinton and Debra Dabney Hinton, who survive.
As a rising eighth grader at Holmes Middle School, he was active in baseball and soccer. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Rockingham Rowdies soccer team.
In addition to his parents of the residence, survivors include a brother, David Dabney Hinton of the residence; his maternal grandparents, Frank and Lydia Dabney of Danville, Va.; and his paternal grandparents, Hardin and Rebecca Hinton of Zebulon.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. today from First Baptist Church in Eden. Burial will be 2:30 today in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church, and other times at the residence.

John Poole
SEMORA, N.C. - John William Poole, 75, 15184 N.C. Hwy. 119, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 1996, in his residence.
Born in Person County, he was a son of Willie P. Poole and Mollie Anna Wiley Poole.
He was married
to Irmalee Collie Poole, who survives.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Semora United methodist Church. During World War II, he served in the Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Marcia Poole Cope of Timberlake, Amy Colleen Poole Daniel of West Yanceyville and Faye Poole Solomon of Roxboro; six brothers, James Poole of Milton, Edward Poole of Bassett Fork, Va., Robert Poole of Appomattox, Charlie Poole and George Poole, both of Semora, and Cecil Poole of Patrick Springs, Va.; two sisters, Alice P. Cundiff of Danville, Va., and Hope P. Thacker of Semora; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. today from Lebanon Christian Church by the Rev. Frank Garton, the Rev. Clarence Garner and the Rev. Thomas Denny.

Lillie Gillie
RUFFIN, N.C. - Little Younts Gillie, 93, of 3114 Oregon Hill Road, died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital.
Born in Leaksville, she was a member of Happy Home United Church of Christ.
She was a retired school teacher. She helped to raise tobacco with her husband, Leonard A. Gillie, who predeceased her.
She attended Greensboro Women's College and Appalachian State University. She was a past postmaster in Ruffin.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty G. Bohannon of Ruffin; two brothers, Wade Younts of Eden, and Otho Younts of Fayetteville; one sister, Marie Y. Koontz of Eden; and one granddaughter.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Happy Home United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Mount Carmel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Tracy Pauley
RALEIGH, N.C. - Tracy David Pauley, 28, formerly of 2720 West Main St., Danville, Va., died Friday, August 16, 1996, in Wake Medical Center. He died from injuries he received in a single vehicle traffic accident Aug. 13, 1996, on Interstate 40, at the NC 210 overpass.
Born Dec. 7, 1967, in Tiffin, Ohio, he was a son of Charles and Maude Pauley.
He was employed by J. Clint Fleming Trucking in Danville. He resided in Roxboro, N.C.
In addition to his parents of Lakeland, Fla., survivors include his wife, Teresa Davis Pauley; two step-children, Abe Davis and Maria Davis; three brothers, Chuck Pauley of Tiffin, Tim Pauley and Cecil Pauley, both of Sycamore, Ohio; one sister, Candy Pauley of Tiffin; and one grandmother, Anna Pauley of Lakeland.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Fanning Funeral Home in Welch, W. Va. Chapel services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Roderfield Cemetery.
Herman Gregory
MAYODAN, N.C. - The Rev. Herman A. Gregory, 84, formerly of Mayodan, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 1996, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville-Henry County (Va.).
Born Sept. 22, 1911, in Henry County, Va., he was a son of Russell A. and Geneva Wyatt Gregory.
He was a retired Pentecostal Holiness pastor, having served as pastor of Valley Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church in Mountain Valley, Va. He also organized and built Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church in Axton, Va. He had pastored Pentecostal Holiness churches in Siler City, Mayodan and Buffaloe Ridge, Va. He also organized the Stoneville Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a retired building contractor, furniture craftsman and carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Lottie Wright Gregory of the home; two daughters, Louise G. Ziglar of Mayodan and Nellie G. Hill of Madison; three sons, Billy R. Gregory of Hampton, Va.; Jackie D. Gregory of West Hills, Calif.; and Ralph P. Gregory of Gold Beach, Ore.; two sisters, Verna Reynolds of Danville, Va., and Helen Scearce of Clarksville, Va.; four brothers, Wesley Gregory of Axton, Va., Hassell Gregory of Swansonville, Va., Douglas Gregory of Callands, Va., and Clinton Gregory of Danville, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
The graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday at the County Line Christian Church Cemetery in Axton.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Ray Funeral Home, Madison, and other times will be at the home of his daughter, Louise Ziglar, Oakwood Manor, Apt. 307-C.
Berkley Harris
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Berkley Willard Harris, 79, 836 Walters Mill Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 1996, in the Brian Center of Yanceyville, following two years of declining health.
Born Sept. 17, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of William Irvin Harris Sr. and Nora Adkins Harris.
He was married
to Frances Walker Harris, who survives.
He had lived in the Providence community of Caswell County since 1964. Prior to his retirement at age 62, he was employed by Tudor Ice Company as a truck driver for 35 years.
He was a member of Gatewood Baptist Church. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Ruth Harris Hankins of Chatham, Va.; a son, William B. Harris of Providence; two sisters, Fannie Withers and Mary Dodson, both of Danville, Va.; a brother, Irvin Harris of Providence; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday from Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Lawrence Morris.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, 879 Walters Mill Road.

Frank Gentry
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Frank Gentry, 86, 5180 Walters Mill Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center, following two years of declining health.
Born Sept. 26, 1909, in Person County, he was a son of William Thomas Gentry and Cornelia Bowes Gentry.
On Nov. 24, 1928, he was married
to Mary Cornell Gentry, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the research department of Dan River Inc. for 38 years. He was also of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Cornelia G. Lovell of Providence and Brenda G. Bryan of Danville, Va.; a son, Frank E. Gentry Sr. of Providence; a brother, Walter Gentry of Providence; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Kenneth Clark. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
