Leah Haskins
FRANKLINTON, N.C. - Leah Hicks Haskins, 83, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home in Danville, Va.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Hicks Sr.
She was married
to Woodrow Haskins, who predeceased her.
She was a member of The Franklinton Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Robert W. Haskins of Danville, Va. and Woodrow B. Haskins of Tacoma, Wash.; three brothers, Donald C. Hicks of Raleigh, Joe Hicks of Murfreesboro and John Hicks of Chester, Va.; four sisters, Mattille Whitaker of Franklinton, Virginia Smith and Helen Burleson, both of Murfreesboro, and Betty Pate of Ahoskie; and six grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by one son, Donald Hicks Haskins.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Franklinton Baptist Church with the Rev. Dupre Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.

Spencer Williams
EDEN, N.C. - Spencer Joel Williams, 4, of 937 Garrett Road, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Winston Salem.
Born in Rockingham County, he was the son of Joel Williams and Lisa Williams.
In addition to his parents of the residence, survivors include maternal grandparents, Ben Lipford and Glenda Lipford of Eden; and paternal grandparents, Roy Taylor Jr. and Lillie Taylor of Eden.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Draper Christian Church with Pastor Bob Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Fair Funeral Home and at other times at 1116 Front St., Eden.
Janie Richmond
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Janie Williamson Richmond, 79, of 300 School Drive, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at her residence.
Born March 28, 1919, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Rev. David Williamson Sr. and Emma Rascoe Williamson.
She was a member of Pearson Chapel AME Church, where she was a member of the steward board, missionary society and Sunday school, and she was a class leader.
She was a graduate of Winston-Salem State University receiving a bachelor of arts degree in education. She received her master of arts degree in education from North Carolina Central University in Durham. She was a teacher in the Caswell County school system for 42 years, where she taught at Caswell County High School, Oakwood Elementary School and Bartlett Yancey Elementary School before her retirement.
She was a member of the Friendlittes Social Club, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, the Caswell County Arts Council and the Winston-Salem State University Alumni Association.
She was married
to Morris Richmond, who predeceased her.
Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Vicki Cheryl Richmond of Yanceyville; one sister, Edna Williamson Couch of Burlington; and two brothers, David Williamson Jr. and Yancey Williamson, both of Yanceyville.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pearson Chapel AME Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fulton Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter at 314 School Drive.
Mildred Pointer
SEMORA, N.C. - Mildred Chandler Pointer, 82, of 13003 N.C. Highway 119 North, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Person Memorial Hospital, Roxboro, N.C.
Born Sept. 30, 1916, in Petersburg, Va., she was the daughter of Robert Chandler and Lucy Ramsey Chandler. She was married
to William Wallace Pointer Sr., who predeceased her.
She was a retired teacher from the Caswell County schools and a member of Semora United Methodist Church, Semora Extension Homemakers Club and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include one son, William Wallace Pointer Jr. of Semora; one daughter, Luna Allen Pointer Hollett of Birmingham, Ala.; and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Barbara Chandler Pointer Ward.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel, South Boston, Va., with the Rev. Ross O'Neal officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Boston.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
James Poteat
WEST YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - James F. Poteat, 84, of 3101 U.S. Highway 158 West, died Friday, March 19, 1999, at the Brian Center.
Hooper Funeral Home and Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.
Wilbur Smith
ASHEBORO, N.C. - Wilbur James Smith, 70, of 542 E. Presnell St., died Friday, March 19, 1999 at Randolph Hospital.
A native of Martinsville, he was a self-employed electrician and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Brown Smith of Asheboro; his daughter, Sherry Alcon of Asheboro; three sons, Curtis Smith of Christiansburg, Va., Darryl Smith of Aiken, S.C., and Gary Smith of Raleigh; a brother, Harold Smith of Ruffin; two sisters, Jane Clause of Wildwood, Fla., and Winifred Jonas of Havre de Grace, Md.; and two grandchildren.
A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
Charles Sheridan
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Charles Linwood Sheridan, 80, of 4412 Old N.C. Highway 86 North, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at Brian Center.
A native of Ruffin, he was the son of Luther B. and Irene Collie Sheridan.
He lived in Yanceyville for the past 13 years and taught at Wentworth High School and R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem.
At Duke University, he served as a liaison between the Office of Ordinance Research and the Chemistry Department, and he also taught at Greensboro College. He retired from Florida Junior College in Jacksonville, Fla.
He received a B.S. degree at Elon College, a master's degree at UNC-Greensboro and did doctoral work at the University of South Florida and the University of Mississippi.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the South Pacific and in Korea during World War II. He was a member of Yanceyville Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, served as clerk of the session and sang in the choir.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Ruby Morgan Sheridan; two brothers, C. Irvin Sheridan of Batesville, Ark., and J. Hunter Sheridan of Summerville, S.C.; and two sisters, Jo Ann S. Davis of Charlotte and Nancy S. Greene of Reidsville.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Yanceyville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Marie Reed officiating. Burial will be in Reidlawn Cemetery in Reidsville.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Bason Memorial Fellowship Hall at the church and at other times at the residence.

Kevin Oman
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Kevin Savage Oman, 18, of 4117 Southeast School Road, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Born in Guilford County, he was the son of Bill Oman and Kaye Savage Oman, who survive.
He was a member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church. He was a senior at Southeast High School where he was on the varsity football team. He attended Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., his sophmore and junior years. He also played basketball with the Alamance Presbyterian Church which was a part of the Pleasant Garden Community Basketball Association.
In addition to his parents of Greensboro, survivors include one brother, William R. Oman Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; one sister, Kim Oman of Greensboro; maternal grandparents, Joseph Savage and Helen S. Savage of Suffolk, Va.; and paternal grandfather Kermit C. Oman Sr., of Lexington.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Mary Elizabeth McLaurin Oman.
A funeral will be held 3:30 p.m. today at Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Noel Inge
BURLINGTON, N.C. - Noel Edward Inge, 82, of 2716 Catherine Drive, died 12:35 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 1999, at the residence, of five years of failing health and two weeks critical illness.
Born in Pittsylania County, Va., he was the son of the late Mason Edward and Martha Simpson Inge.
He was married
to Myrtle Shoe Inge, who survives.
He was a retired employee of AT&T. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elon College, Methodist Men and Administrative Board of the Church, the Elon College Exchange Club, Elon College Alderman and Western Alamance Boosters Club.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters Gloria Dawn and Emily Janette; one brother C. Woody Inge of Elon College; three sisters Mrs. Viola Million and Mrs. Frances Hardy, both of Danville, Va., and Mrs. Ruth Edwards of Gretna, Va.; five grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Elmo Inge, Joseph Inge and Berkley Inge; two sisters Miss Geneva Inge and Mrs. Florence Grogan.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday March 27, 1999, at First United Methodist Church of Elon College with the Rev. Randall Inness, Pastor of the church, and the Rev. Bill Wolfe, a retired minister officiating. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
Mr. Inge will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today and at other times at the residence.

Reuben Foster
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Rueben Leon Foster, 40, of 16 Emerson St., East Orange, N.J., died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at his residence.
Born Oct. 29, 1958, in Morristown, N.J., he was the son of John D. Foster and Eva Brooks Foster of Yanceyville, who survive.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Morristown, N.J., and was employed as a construction worker.
Survivors in addition to his parents include two brothers, John D. Foster of Danville and Harlan E. Foster of Pelham, N.C.; three sisters, Cassandra D. Johnson of Pelham, Sheronda B. Foster of Tulsa, Okla., and Bernadette A. Foster of Newport News, Va.; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie G. Foster of Yanceyville; maternal grandmother, Mary Sue Books of Vauxhall, N.J.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Blackwell Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. before the service.
Dorethea Robinson
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Dorethea Robinson, 61, of 1369 Meadowview Apt. 1-D, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999 at her residence.
Born Feb. 22, 1938, in Person County, she was the daughter of Robert Robinson and Hattie Mae McGhee Robinson. She was a member of Bibleway Church in Danville, Va. She was a self-employed farmer.
Survivors include three sons, Roger Robinson, Carlton Robinson and Michael Robinson, all of Yanceyville; one daughter, Shirley R. Thomas of Richmond, Va.; three brothers, Robert Robinson and Rosevelt Robinson, both of Yanceyville, and James Robinson of Stoneville, N.C.; four sisters, Gracie Robinson and Louvenia Robinson, both of Yanceyville, Nancy Hightower of Milton, N.C., and Leolia Pulliam of Burlington, N.C.; three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at noon at High Rock Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be held today, 2-8 p.m., at Fulton Funeral Home, Yanceyville. The family will be at the residence, 1369 Meadowview Drive, Apt. 1-D, Yanceyville.
