Laurinburg, NC - Mr. Lauch H. McLean, Jr.., 82, of 914 South Main Street., died Thursday, May 13, at his home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Elizabeth Forester.

He is survived by a sister, Katherine Garrett of Hickory.

Born September 30, 1921 in Laurinburg, he was a son of the late Lauch H. and Kate Sinclair McLean. He was a graduate of Laurinburg High School and attended Campbell University and studied engineering at North Carolina State University. During World War II he served with the US Army Air Force as a mechanic stationed in England. He was later employed for many years in construction, primarily with Daniel Construction Company.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Scotland County, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353 or Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, 600 W. Church St., Laurinburg, NC 28352.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the memorial service.

David Lane Rodgers
Born in Union County, NC on Nov. 4, 1947
Departed on Apr. 7, 2004 and resided in Laurinburg, NC.

Laurinburg - Mr. David Lane Rodgers, 56, of 1808 Anita Drive died Wednesday, April 7, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Monroe officiated by the Revs. Jack Watts, Jerry Rhyne, and Marion Rhyne. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Montgomery Rodgers; a son, Marty Lane Rodgers of Laurinburg; his mother, Bessie Robinson Rodgers of Mineral Springs; a brother, Carl E. Rodgers, Jr. of Mineral Springs; a sister, Pattie Rodgers of Mineral Springs; mother-in-law, Bea Montgomery; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Barbara Ellis; nieces, Ginger Rodgers Outen and Jill Ellis Belk; nephews, Scott Rodgers, Jerry Rodgers, Jr., Jeffrey Rodgers, and Rusty Ellis. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Rodgers.

Born November 4, 1947 in Union County, he was also a son of the late Carl E. Rodgers, Sr. He graduated from Parkwood High School and attended NC state University on a scholarship where he was a fullback on the football team. After graduation he joined the Hamlet Savings and Loan, later First Southern as branch manager.

David founded his own home mortgage company and operated it as a part of Rodgers Realty and Construction Co. He was also a Realtor and past president and director of the Laurinburg Board of Realtors.

David was also a member of the Laurinburg Optimist Club and help start the Scotland County Humane Society.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium and from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Monroe.

Mayme Odom Bristow
Born in Laurinburg, NC on Oct. 11, 1929
Departed on Jun. 3, 2004 and resided in Laurinburg, NC.

Laurinburg - Mrs. Mayme Odom Bristow, 74, of 13220 Blue’s Farm Road died Thursday, June 3, at her home.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. L. D. Kimrey. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Bristow and fiance, Phyllis Wyke of Laurinburg and Alex Bristow and wife, Labronda of Dillon, SC; a brother, Harold “Boots” Odom of Taylorsville; a sister, Helen O. Adams of Laurinburg; five grandchildren.

Born October 11, 1929 in Laurinburg, she was a daughter of the late Charles Wallace and Katie Medlin Odom.

A very caring person, Mayme cared for her parents for a number of years and would often help the less fortunate, often buying groceries for them.

In 1947 Mayme began working with Scotland Memorial Hospital when it was located at the Laurinburg-Maxton Air Base and retired in 1994 as office manager of Laurinburg Surgical Clinic. Following her retirement she worked for two years as a hostess at Captain Larry's Seafood Restaurant.

An active member of the First Baptist Church, Mayme was a former choir member, deacon, pre-school Sunday school teacher, and worked for ten years with Wee Care.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium and other times at the home of Helen Adams, 10321 Plantation Rd., Laurinburg.

Lydia Fields Hardy
Born in Scotland County, NC. on Aug. 17, 1944
Departed on May 20, 2004 and resided in Laurinburg, NC.
Cemetery: Hillside Memorial Park

Mrs. Lydia Fields Hardy, 59, of 330 N. Gill St. died Thursday May 20, 2004 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted 3PM Sunday May 23, 2004 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel, Laurinburg. Rev. Clyde Dugan will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

She is survived by her husband Freddie Hardy of the home, a son, David Rosson, a daughter Amy Lee and a brother David Fields, all of Laurinburg. Also surviving are four grandchildren

Born August 17, 1944 in Scotland County, NC. A daughter of the late David and Lydia Chavis Fields. She was a homemaker.

James D. Pearson
Born in Scotland Co., NC on Oct. 28, 1928
Departed on Apr. 18, 2004 and resided in Laurel Hill, NC.

Mr. James D. Pearson, 75, of 14860 Hargrave Street died Sunday, April 18, at his residence.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Laurel Hill United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Keith Brown and Dr. Rodger Decker. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Lib” Pearson; two sons, Ricky Pearson and wife, Jo Ann of Laurel Hill, Jerry Pearson and wife, Wanda of Laurinburg; one sister, Joyce Thomason of Cameron, NC; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

He was born October 28, 1928 in Scotland County and was a son of the late James Dewey Pearson and Sadie Smith Pearson Stevens, and stepson of the late Bryant Stevens. He was a loyal member of the Laurel Hill United Methodist Church where he was available to do whatever the church needed. Mr. Pearson was retired as a master mechanic superintendent from J. P. Stevens.

Visitation will be 7 – 9 p.m. Monday at McDougald Funeral Home, Laurel Hill.

Memorials may be made to Laurel Hill United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 217, Laurel Hill, NC 28351.

Sara Beth McCall McArthur
Born in Marlboro County, SC on Nov. 9, 1931
Departed on May 27, 2004 and resided in Maxton, NC.

Maxton - Mrs. Sara Beth McCall McArthur, 72, of 706 McCaskill Avenue died suddenly Thursday, May 27, at her home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Jim Caviness. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Charles “Charlie” McArthur; a son, Randy McArthur and wife, G. G. of Laurinburg; two daughters, Sandy Sessoms and husband, Cliff and Debbie Morton and husband, Chip of Maxton; a brother, Blanchard McCall of Bennettsville, SC; 3 grandchildren and 1 step-granddaughter.

Born November 9, 1931 in Marlboro County, SC she was a daughter of the late Julius D. and Ethel Stanton McCall. She was employed by Southern Bell as an operator for 30 1/2 years. Sara Beth lived and loved to tend to her family and pets.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, PO Box 429, Maxton, NC 28364.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Bradley English Austin
Born in Mecklenburg County, NC on Sep. 20, 1959
Departed on May 9, 2004 and resided in Taylorsville, NC.

Taylorsville, NC - Mr. Bradley English Austin, 44, of 23 Kirkpatrick Road died Sunday, May 9, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Centre Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Maxton, NC, officiated by the Rev. Nancy Willard.

He is survived by his mother, Myrtle Virginia Austin of Statesville; one sister, Kimberly Long and husband Byron of Hickory; two nephews, Byron Christopher Long and Benjamin Miller Long of Hickory; one niece, Calli McRae Long of Hickory. He was preceded in death by his father, William G. Austin.

Bradley was born September 20, 1959 in Mecklenburg County NC and was employed by Hillside Motors. Bradley will be remembered as a loving son, brother and best friend.

McDougald Funeral Home & Crematorium of Laurinburg is serving the family.

Evelina Wright Gibson

Gibson - Mrs. Evelina Wright Gibson, 100, of Dundee Nursing Home, Bennettsville and formerly of Gibson, died Monday, January 19, at Dundee Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Johns United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Harold Salmon. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

She is survived by a sister, Amanda Mott of Americus, GA; three nieces, Evelyn Stembridge and Cathy Coulter of Americus, GA and Bobbye Pearson and husband, Lt. Col George Pearson of Ft. Walton, FL; two nephews, Al Mott and wife, Brenda of Americus, GA and F. P. Wright and wife, Gloria of Statesville.

Born October 7, 1903 in Scotland County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie A. and Hattie Parker Wright and widow of the late Roy Gibson.

She was a retired inspector for Morgan Mills and a life long member of St. Johns United Methodist Church where she former taught Sunday school and was a member of the adult Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Friendly Club, the United Methodist Women, and Scotland County Extension Homemakers.

Memorials may be made to St. Johns United Methodist Church, PO Box 181, Gibson, NC 28345.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium, Laurinburg.

Butris 'Pete' Anthony
Born in Laurinburg, NC on Mar. 23, 1912
Departed on Jan. 16, 2004 and resided in Laurinburg, NC.

Laurinburg, NC - Mr. Butris “Pete” Anthony, 91, of 901 West Church Street died Friday, January 16, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Robert Diegelman officiating.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Anthony, Joseph Anthony, Pete Anthony, Jeffrey Anthony, Joseph Anthony, II, Paul Yucha, Nick Yucha, and John Anthony. The burial at Hillside Cemetery will immediately follow the church service.

Pete Anthony, beloved husband of the late Margaret Zaden Anthony, is survived by his sons, Thomas Anthony of Greenville, NC and Joseph Anthony and wife, Ivy of Durham; three daughters, Mary-Margaret Board and Theresa Anthony, both of Charlotte, Kitty Yucha and husband, Paul of Wimauma, FL; Daughter-in-law, Marguerite Anthony of Greenville, NC; Eight Grandchildren; Two Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Alex Anthony and Marcus Anthony, both of Laurinburg.

Born March 23, 1912, he was the son of the late Khalil and Rachelle Saseen Anthony. He grew up in Laurinburg and married icon Margaret Zaden in 1937. They owned and operated Margaret’s Beauty Salon for over forty years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Scotland County Beauticians Association and the North Carolina State Cosmetology Association. He was also a strong supporter of the Young at Hearts Senior Citizen Club. He and Margaret enjoyed traveling and entertaining in their home.

Visitation will be 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, January 19 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

The Family of Pete Anthony would like to express their gratitude to the many close friends of their father for all the support and love given to him during his years in Laurinburg. Shelia Stephanie Hernandez

Maxton, NC - Miss Shelia Stephanie Hernandez, 6, of 1060 Highway 17 North, Maxton died Tuesday, January 13.

A memorial service will be 11 a..m. Sunday at St. R. B. Dean Elementary School, Maxton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Red Springs. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Maxton.

She is survived by her parents, Hilario and Maria; her brothers, Rogelia Hernandez of Vera Cruz, MX, Alexis Hernandez and Christian Hernandez of the home; her paternal grandparents, Lazaro Cordova and Vincenta Concepcion Antonia of Vera Cruz, MX; her maternal grandmother, Raquel Gutierrez of Roseboro; her uncles, Angel Artemio, Jose and Julian Cordova of Rockingham; her aunts, Andria and Martina Cordova of Rockingham.

Born June 20, 1997 in Fort Myers, FL, she was the daughter of Hilario Cordova Cruz and Maria Hernandez Gutierrez. She was a kindergarten student at the R. B. Dean Elementary School in Maxton.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg.
