Roberts, Margaret `Pam`
HICKORY - Margaret `Pam` Roberts, 72, died August 7. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 3pm, at Catawba Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Arrangements by Catawba Funeral Home.

Little, Willie (Chic) Virginia James
KANNAPOLIS - Mrs. Willie (Chic) Virginia James Little, 87, died August 6, 2000. Services will be 12 Noon Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis. Visitation 11-12 Noon Wednesday at funeral home.

Hilton, Bobbie Louise Gilmer
KERSHAW - Mrs. Bobbie Louise Gilmer Hilton, 60, wife of Mr. Hazel A. Hilton, of 6395 North Matson Street, Kershaw, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2000 at the Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born August 10, 1939, in Kershaw, a daughter of the late Mr. Robert L. Gilmer and Mrs. Lula Bell Robinson Gilmer. Mrs. Hilton was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. She had retired from the Korner Kupboard and was a member of the Woodman of the World Lodge #196.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Bryant D. Fersner, Jr., and the Rev. John Rogers. Burial will be in the Kershaw City Cemetery.

Mrs. Hilton is survived by her husband, Mr. Hazel A. Hilton; two sons, Mr. Dean Hunter and Mr. Mike Hunter both of Kershaw; two brothers, Mr. Robert L. Gilmer, Jr. of Kershaw and Mr. Richard Gilmer of Atlanta; Georgia; a sister, Mrs. Mary G. Broome of Kershaw; and four granddaughters.

Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church - Building Fund, PO Box 67, Kershaw, SC 29067 or to the Lancaster County Emergency Medical Service - First Responder Program, PO Box 1809, Lancaster, SC 29721-1809.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hunter, 302 South Minor Street, Kershaw, SC 29067.

LAURINBURG - Mrs. Mary Putnam Eckblad, 89, died Aug. 6. Funeral Services, 11 AM Thurs. Laurinburg Presby. Church. Visitation Wed. 6:30-8:30 PM Argyll Room, Scotia Village. McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorius is in charge.

Keath, Harry Grant
LINCOLNTON - Mr. Harry Grant Keath, 83, of 229 Sunnyhill Drive in Lincolnton died Sunday, August 6, 2000 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Keath was born in Lancaster county Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Harry H. and Mary Rutter Keath. Mr. Keath was a 22 year veteran of the United States Navy. He served during WWII where he was a prisoner of war for 5 years. He received several medals of honor during that time, including the purple heart as well as the silver and bronze stars. He also served an additional eight years in the reserve in which he saw military duty in the Korean Conflict. He was a longtime member of the Charlotte Branch #228 Fleet Reserve Association.

Survivors include, wife, Mary Shull Keath of the hoe; one step son, Bob Wilson of Charlotte, NC; and two granddaughters.

His funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at Victory Grove Tabernacle. Rev. F.M. Spargo and Rev. L.C. Rankin will officiate.

Rhyne, Robert Ray
MAIDEN - Mr. Robert Ray Rhyne, age 80, of Goodson Road in Maiden died Sunday, August 6, 2000 at Catawba Memorial Hospital.

His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. John Duncan and Rev. Gary Dittman officiating. Burial will follow in Centerview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Rhyne was born on December 12, 1919 in Lincoln County to the late William Grady and Annie Workman Rhyne and was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Laney Rhyne. He was a dairy farmer, retired from Jackson Buff, worked at Harris Teeter and was a WWII Army veteran.

Survivors include two brothers, Carl Rhyne of Vale, Rev. Jack Rhyne and wife, Colleen of Lincolnton; one sister, Mrs. Jean Clemmer of Dallas, NC; sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Rhyne of Lincolnton; nephews, great nephews, nieces and great nieces, and friends at Harris Teeter.

Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2639 E. Hwy 150, Lincolnton, NC 28092; or Reep-Rhyne Scholarship Fund, c/o Messiah United Methodist Church, 4102 W. Hwy 27, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

MAIDEN - Jimmy Arnold Turbyfill, 60, died August 6. The funeral is Tuesday, 4pm, at Center View Baptist Church, burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation was Monday at the church. Burke Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Greene, Helen G.
MOORESBORO - Mrs. Helen G. Greene, 63, of 113 Academy St., Mooresboro, NC died Monday, August 7, 2000.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Sandy Run Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Hendrick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Greene was a native of Cleveland Co., NC, daughter of the late Howell Lee and Lola Bertha Hunt Greene. She was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church; Women's Missionary Union; former Sunday School Teacher; former PTA President; member Mooresboro Womens Club; and Mooresboro Book Club.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Mr. Don E. Greene; 2 daughters, Phyllis Garrett and husband, Grady of Palm Harbor, FL and Sandra Lail and husband, Alan of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 2 brothers, Ernest Greene and wife, Peggy of Shelby, NC, Herman Greene and wife, Mary of Kings Mountain, NC; 1 sister, Irene Wright of Kings Mountain, NC; and 4 grandchildren, Morgan & Shannon Lail and Erin & Stuart Garrett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Hershel, Cecil, Russell and Richard Greene; and by sister, Pearl Wylie.

MOORESVILLE - Effie Dee Bumgarner, 78, of 419 Patterson Avenue, Mooresville, NC died August 6, 2000 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Williamson Chapel UMC, Mooresville, with Dr. Lyn Sorrells officiating. Burial will be in Old Williamson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM this evening (Tuesday) at Neill Funeral Home.

Born in Mecklenburg Co., NC, she was a retired Inspector with Troutman Shirt Co.

Survivors include nephews, Russell Bumgarner, Johnny Bumgarner and Homer Bumgarner, all of Mooresville, NC, Frank Cogler, Jr. of Chicago, IL; nieces, Nancy Teague and Gail Bumgarner, both of Mooresville, NC, Dianne Baxter of Troutman, Johnice Barnette of Mt. Mourne, NC and Dianna Warnock of Clearwater, FL; a number of great nieces and nephews also survive.

A special thanks to Angie Bryden, a great niece of Mooresville.

MYRTLE BEACH - Stephanie Harris Leath, 47, of Myrtle Beach, SC, died August 6, 2000 at her home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church, McColl, SC, 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, McColl, SC. The family will receive friends at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, SC Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and at Rogers Funeral Home Wednesday morning from 11:00 AM until 12 Noon.

She was born October 27, 1952 in Florence, SC, a daughter of Edward H. Harris and the late Monica Kay Martin Harris. She was pre-deceased by a son, Thomas E. Leath, III.

Survivors are her husband, Thomas E. Leath, II of Myrtle Beach, SC; sons, Austin Kennedy Leath, of the home, Kevin Edward Brooks of Atlanta, GA; father, Edward H. Harris of McColl, SC; sisters, Shannon Harris of Greensboro, NC, Nancy H. Weitl of San Francisco, CA; and father & mother-in-law, Dr. & Mrs. Thomas E. Leath of Lake Wylie, SC.

OLD FORT - Robert Lee Logan, 72, died August 6. The funeral is Wednesday, 3pm, at Pharrs Chapel AME Zion Church, burial to follow in Old Fort City Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Kirksey FH is in charge.

Head, Josephine H.
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Josephine H. Head, age 69 of 1130 Neely Store Road died Sunday, August 6, 2000 at Mercy Hospital South.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Oakdale Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating. Interment at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Head was a native of Lancaster, South Carolina and the daughter of the late Clayton Hammond and Ester Fragin Hammond. She was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church. Mrs. Head is survived by her husband, Aaron Head of the home; two sons William Aaron Head of Van Wyck, SC; and Frank "Pete" Head of Rock Hill, SC; four daughters, Phyllis Lewis of Chester, SC, Linda Gay of Gaffney, SC, Nancy King of Clover, SC, and Teresa Dellinger of Rock Hill, SC; one brother Paul Hammond of Fort Mill, SC; 22 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren, and 16 step great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 PM Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel. Other times at the residence.

RUBY - Mrs. Mary B. Gulledge, 85, went home to be with her Lord Sunday, August 6, 2000.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Ruby Baptist Church, Ruby, SC. Burial will be in Ruby Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield, SC.

Mrs. Gulledge was born in Ruby, SC, a daughter of the late Frank Tucker and Mary Belle Moore Tucker Gulledge. She was a retired Lunchroom Supervisor with the Chesterfield County School System and was a member of Ruby Baptist Church. Mrs. Gulledge was married icon to the late C. Ottis Gulledge and was preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Tucker and 2 sisters, Ella Roscoe and Lexia Welsh.

Survivors include 2 sons, Theron Gulledge and wife, Elaine of Ruby, SC and Roy Gulledge and wife, Juanita of Hampton, VA; 4 sisters, Emma Lee Sellers, her twin and Frances Gulledge of Mt. Croghan, SC, Geneva Moore of Laurinburg, NC and Clevia Gulledge of Kannapolis, NC; also 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
