Mahaffy, Ola Joyce Clark
BELMONT - Ola Joyce Clark Mahaffy, 66, of 109 Leeper Ave. died Jan. 27, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital.
Graveside service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is 10-10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Carothers Funeral Home, Belmont.
A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie C. and Mary Mena Cole Clark. A pianist and music instructor, she attended East Belmont Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Clark; sister, Alice Clark Heap; and twin sister, Loyce Clark.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Marsey of Walnut Creek, CA and Sharon Henagar of Danville, CA; granddaughter, Sara Marsey of Walnut Creek, CA; brothers, Robert Clark of Kernersville and David C. Clark of Charlotte; sister, Mena Belle Gaither of Mt. Holly.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Laney, Vera Bullard
BENNETTSVILLE - Vera Bullard Laney, 88, died Jan. 27, 2001, at the home of daughter in Cheraw after a long illness.
Graveside service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Park.
Born in Marlboro County, she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Nannie B. Bullard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Laney; six sisters; and two brothers.
Mrs. Laney was a devoted wife and mother. She was a homemaker and farm owner. She enjoyed volunteer work in the community. Mrs. Laney was a graduate of Fletcher Memorial School and attended Bethel Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Avis "Mickey" Huggins and her husband, Charles of Cheraw, and Vera "Charlie" L. Hahn of Bennettsville; grandsons, Robert L. Hahn of Garden City and John R. Huggins of Florence; granddaughters, Lindsey Blair Huggins and Cameron Leigh Huggins, both of Florence.

Walters, Clyde Sheppard "Buwa"
CHESTER - Mr. Clyde Sheppard "Buwa" Walters, III, age 50 of 146 Dawson Drive, Chester, SC died Monday, January 29 at Chester County Hospital.
A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday at Barron Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Sander officiating.
Mr. Walters was born August 31, 1950 in Chester, S.C., son of the Clyde S. Walters, Jr. and the late Dorothy Lee (Carpenter) Walters. He was a graduate of Chester High School and was formerly employed with Highway Construction.
In addition to his father, he is survived by a sister, Gloria Sharpe of Chester; 2 brothers, Terry Darby of Chester, Gene Darby of Knoxville, TN; and paternal grandmother, Myrtle Walters of Whitmire, SC.

Lawson, Charles R.
COTTAGEVILLE - Rev. Charles R. Lawson, 78, of 11503 Cottageville Hwy., died Sunday at Colleton Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at the Chapel of the Fred Parker Funeral Home. Interment will be in Florence National Cemetery.
Rev. Lawson was born Jan. 23, 1923 in Union, SC, a son of Charlie Watson Lawson and Lettie Louise Humphries Lawson. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Walterboro, graduated from Coker College. and Southwestern Seminary. He was a former pastor at Lowrys Baptist Church and Cottageville Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe.
Surviving are his wife, Orgla Powell Lawson; two daughters, Jane Hurd of Charlotte and Carlie Lawson of Norman, OK and a sister, Lena Vic Allen of Arcadia, SC.

Fincher, Herbert Haskell
FORT LAWN - Mr. Herbert Haskell Fincher, 76, passed away Jan. 28, 2001, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
Funeral is 3 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Lawn Church of God with Rev. Barry Howell and Rev. Jerry Barrineau officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Memorial Park.
Mr. Fincher was born May 28, 1924 in Kershaw, a son of the late John Belk and Mary Champion Fincher. He was a charter member and former Superintendent of the Fort Lawn Church of God, and retired owner and operator of the Fincher Construction Company.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alma Adams Fincher of the home; one son, Mr. Herbert D. Fincher of Edgemoor; one daughter, Mrs. John (Jean) Hicklin of Edgemoor; one brother, Mr. Otis Fincher of Fort Lawn; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

GARNER, IA - Dorothy M. Howie, 77, died Jan. 25, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center, North Iowa, Mason City.
Funeral was 2 p.m. Monday at the United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Roger Kallen officiating.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Lembo and husband, Keith of Charlotte, NC.

Liner, Ruby Carnes
GASTONIA - Mrs. Ruby Carnes Liner, 90, of 4213 South New Hope Rd. died Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Liner was a native of Lancaster, SC, mother of the late Patricia L. Isenhour, daughter of the late Marvin and Estelle Deese Carnes, sister of the late Gilbert L. Carnes, Roy Carnes, John Carnes and Christine C. Stanford. She was retired from Burlington Industries and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 68 yrs, James Mack Liner of the home; daughters, Barbara L. Murphy of Belmont and Kathy L. Harris of Arlington, VA; brothers, Curtis Carnes of Lincolnton, Neal Carnes of Rutherford, NC and George Carnes of Blacksburg, SC; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A 2:00pm funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Lynwood Lavinder officiating.
Visitation will be held Tuesday January 30, 2001 from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at McLean Funeral Directors.
