Mulcrone, Helen Malloy
Mrs. Helen Malloy Mulcrone, 88, of Little Flower Assisted Living Center, Charlotte, died Monday, February 5, 2001.

Helen was born October 27, 1912, in Cleveland, OH, and grew up there, where she loved playing Women's League baseball and dancing at the West Side Irish-American Club. Helen married Thomas Patrick Mulcrone in 1939 and devoted her life to being his wife and the mother of their six children.

She and Tom moved to Charlotte in 1978 to be near their children and grandchildren. In 1999, Thomas preceded Helen in death, after 60 years of marriage.

She will be missed by her loving sons, Thomas, James, Patrick and Daniel; her daughters, Eileen Pata and Jane Burdecki; her 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was active for many years in the 50+ Club at her parrish, St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Afflicted with Alzheimer's disease, Helen lived her final years in dignity and safety, surrounded by the love of her family and the wonderful staff and residents of the Little Flower Assisted Living Community. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and kind, loving manner.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 7, 10:30-11:30 AM, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, followed by Mass celebrated by Father Phillip Scarcella at 11:30. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Little Flower Resident Activity Fund, 8700 Lawyers Road, Charlotte, NC 28227 or to Holy Angels Nursery, 418 North Main Street, Belmont, NC 28012.

Murriel, Lee Andy
Mr. Lee Andy Murriel, 74, of 2727 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC (Brian Center) died Saturday, February 3, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Ebony & White's funeral service.

Page, James Arthur
James Arthur Page, age 73, of Charlotte, NC, died at home on February 3, 2001. He was born in Landrum, South Carolina, on February 13, 1927, to the late LeRoy Randolph Page and Alma Irene Foster Page. The Page family moved to Spartanburg, SC, in 1929 where Arthur attended Spartanburg City Schools.

He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served as an enlisted man in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II. Returning to Spartanburg after the war, he attended Wofford College in Spartanburg and Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. In 1949 he married the former Mary Ellen Dobbins of Spartanburg.

Mr. Page and his family moved to Charlotte, NC, in 1952 where he was employed in the Art Department of The Charlotte Observer. He also worked for the Charlotte News for several years. He joined Lowe's where he created their Advertising Department. He was head of advertising departments for several major corporations in North Carolina, the last being Associated Grocers Mutual. He left AGM in 1970 to form his own advertising agency, which he operated until his retirement in 1995.

Mr. Page is survived by his wife of 51 years, one daughter, Katherine Page Graydon and husband, Edward, of Woodbridge, Virginia; one son, James Randolph Page of Charlotte; grandchildren, Irene Elizabeth Graydon and Joshua Edward Graydon, both of Woodbridge, Virginia. He is also survived by brothers, Cannon F. Page of Chester, Virginia; H. Cliff Page and wife, Kathryn of Portsmouth, Virginia; and sisters, Mildred Page Hogarth and husband, John, of Kinston, NC; and Alma Page Atwater of Columbia, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Page's life will be held at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 3307 Rea Road, Charlotte, NC at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2001. The service will be conducted by Pastors Doug Vinez and David Cornett. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Presbyterian Home Care-Hospice, PO Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233-3549; or to Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 3307 Rea Road, Charlotte, NC 28226.

Raborn, Nannie Johnston
Nannie Johnston Raborn, age 94, of the Mallard Creek Community, died February 1, 2001 in the Charlotte Health Care Center.

Mrs. Raborn was born April 7, 1906 in the Mallard Creek Community where she lived most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Mark Wiley Johnston and Eliza Horton Johnston.

A loving mother, she is survived by her son, Earl Raborn and his wife, Doris; daughter, Dorothy Keistler and her husband, W.H. Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Billie Raborn.

Mrs. Raborn is also survived by her brothers, Fred Johnston and Clarence Johnston, both of Charlotte; sister, Gertrude Blackwelder of Harrisburg; nine grandchildren, Cathy Hargett, Susan Tench, Chris Raborn, Cynthia Cobb, Gail Raborn, Tina Connor, Mike Keistler, Denise Bright and Donna Banks; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Raborn and by a son, Wesley M. Raborn.

She was a member of Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church where she and her husband enjoyed helping with the Annual Mallard Creek B.B.Q. She was a former member of Glenwood ARP Church. Her greatest delight was working in her flower and vegetable garden and sharing her flowers and produce with her family and friends.

A funeral service to Celebrate the Life of Nannie Johnston Raborn was held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 3, 2001 at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Robert Watkins and The Reverend James Murray officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to mallard Creek Presbyterian Church, 1600 Mallard Creek Church Rd., Charlotte, NC 28262.

Arrangements are by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service.

Roar, Infant Cody Ray
Infant Cody Ray Roar, son of George Raymond Grunenberg and Jennifer Ryan Roar, was born January 15, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center and died February 1, 2001.

Survivors include grandparents, Roger Messer and Belinda J. Roar and John and Judy Koonce.

Graveside services were held February 5, 2001 at 11:00 AM at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mark Trautman officiating.

Raymer Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.

Sheppe, Ben
Mr. Ben Sheppe, 47, of Charlotte, NC, died Friday, February 2, 2001 at the Duke University Medical Center.

Mr. Sheppe was born in Roanoke, VA the son of the late, George Benjamin Sheppe, Jr. and Peggy Marlowe Sheppe. He graduated from Guilford College. Mr. Sheppe was District Sales Manager for Drummond American Corporation and was an avid scuba diver and a PADI certified scuba diver. He was also a member of the Porsche Club of America and an avid Panthers fan.

Survivors include his wife, Kelli and daughter, McClory Marlowe Sheppe, of Charlotte.

Memorial service will be 7:00 p.m, Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at Harry & Bryant Chapel in the Oaks, 500 Providence Road, with the Reverend Larry Watts officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

The family wishes to express the importance of organ donations and requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to Hepatitis Research Foundation for research of Hepatitis C., 553 Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Shute, Matthew A.
Mr. Matthew A. Shute, 86, died Sunday, February 4, 2001. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Alexander Funeral Home is in charge.

Straple, Bernice "Bea" Theresa
Bernice "Bea" Theresa Straple, 74 of Charlotte, died Sunday, February 4, 2001 at the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital. She was born March 24, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Anthony and Eva Strowe.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 7, at Carolina Funeral & Cremation Center, 5505 Monroe Rd. A memorial service will immediately follow at 8:00 PM.

A Charlotte resident since 1963, Mrs. Straple had worked for 8 years as an office clerk with the New England Life Insurance Company and she had also been employed for 8 years as a U.S. Postal clerk at the Starmount office.

Survivors include her husband, Bernard "Bernie" Straple of the home; 4 sons, Richard, Robert, Ronald, and Bernard, Jr. all of Charlotte; brother, Raymond Strowe of Chicago, IL; sister, Stella Prosek of Denver, CO. and 6 grandchildren, Brad, Blair, Molly, Christopher, Kimberly and Kristina.

Memorial contributions may be made to The American Lung Association, 5315 Greenbrook Dr., Charlotte, NC 28205.

Carolina Funeral & Cremation is entrusted with arrangements.

Williams, Grady H.
Mr. Grady H. Williams, Jr., 40, died Sunday, February 4, 2001 at Carolinas medical Center.

Born March 13, 1960, Mr. Williams was a lifelong resident of Charlotte. he attended West Charlotte High School and was a member of Derita Baptist Church.

Mr. Williams, who was employed as the Deli manager with Food Lion on Sunset Road, was also an artist and loved flowers. He was especially fond of his dog, Caesar.

Survivors include his parents, Grady H. Williams, Sr. and Shirley Johnson Williams, of Charlotte; two sisters, Cynthia W. Packett and husband, Danny, of Huntersville, and Kathie W. Packett and husband, Dale of Concord; friend, Lamar Liscomb, of Charlotte; grandmother, Cora Johnson of Wadesboro; nephew and nieces, Stephanie, Kenny and Michelle; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7 in the Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel with the Reverend G.W. McCullough, III and the Reverend Mike Grubbs officiation. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Ste. 211, Charlotte, NC 28202.

Mr. Williams will be greatly missed. He was considerate of his fellow man and was loved by everyone who met him.

Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Boulevard, Charlotte.

Wright, Dale Jenkins
Mrs. Dale Jenkins Wright, of 2013 Wood Dale Terrace, Charlotte, NC died February 2, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at Chappell Memorial Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C. with Rev. Norman Kerry, Jr. officiating. The body will lie in state from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, Charlotte, N.C. Visitation is 1 to 2 PM Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Wright was born in Hampton County, South Carolina. She was last employed as a Data Entry Clerk in the Security Division of IJL - Wachovia (formally Interstate Johnson Lane, Inc.).

She is survived by 2 sons, Cleveland Wright (Tarrah) of Charlotte, NC, Javar Wright of Goldsboro, NC; daughter, Ms. Nkenge A. Wright of Charlotte, NC; mother, Mrs. Nora Lee Jenkins of Washington, DC; 4 brothers, Larry Jenkins of Charlotte, NC, McArthur Jenkins (Jeannette) of Washington, DC, Tyrone Jenkins (Penny) of Washington, DC, Ronald Jenkins (Linda) of Tennessee; sisters, Marlena Jenkins of Washington, DC, Mary Bouleware Jenkins of Charlotte, NC, Ellanora Jenkins of Washington, DC.

Zieverink, Judieth Norman
Judieth Norman Zieverink, 53, of Winston-Salem, NC, formerly of Charlotte, NC, died on Saturday, February 3, 2001. Mrs. Zieverink was born on September 19, 1947, in Charlotte, NC, a daughter of Howard Norman and Virginia Medlin Norman.

A graduate of Harding High School, she worked as a candy striper at the former Charlotte Memorial Hospital while she attended nursing school. She was a member of the Lupus Association, the Dog Club, and a past member of St. Patrick's Cathedral. Mrs. Zieverink was a rubber stamp enthusiast and enjoyed making specialty greeting cards and envelopes. She was a devoted wife, a faithful daughter, a loving mother and grandmother, and a special friend to many people.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Zieverink is survived by her husband, Francis A. "Tony" Zieverink; her son, Brent A. Zieverink and his wife, Jodi Zieverink of Charlotte, NC; her granddaughter, Delaney Zieverink; her brother, Johnny Norman of Upper Darby, PA; her sisters, Joyce Love and Lori Seagle, both of Charlotte, NC; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Zieverink of Charlotte, NC; and by her faithful pet, Misty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 1621 Dilworth Road East, Charlotte, NC, with The Reverend Paul Q. Gary, Celebrant. There will be a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM on Tuesday at Harry and Bryant Company, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC, followed by a visitation until 8:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the North Carolina Lupus Association, 2841 Foxwood Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
