NEWTON -- Ruby Margaret Scronce, 83, died May 5, 2001. Funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Plateau United Methodist Church. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday. Funeral arrangements are by Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton.

Gibson, Mary English

GIBSON -- Mrs. Mary English Gibson, 78, died May 5. Funeral is 4 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson Friendship Mission. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Monday at McDougald Funeral Home in Laurel Hill.

Russell, Thelma Elizabeth Dean

Thelma Elizabeth Dean Russell, 81, of Charlotte, died May 3, 2001. Funeral is 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at C.N. Jenkins Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Jerry L. Cannon will officiate. Burial will be in Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 12:00 noon Tuesday at the church.

Survivors are son, Clarence Russell (Angela) of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Lowman, Melisha Ann Shoemaker

HILDEBRAN -- Mrs. Melisha Ann Shoemaker Lowman, 25, died May 5, 2001. Funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Catawba Funeral Chapel. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. May 7, 2001 at Catawba Funeral Home.

Thompson, Benjamin `Ben` Ryan

MT. GILEAD -- Mr. Benjamin `Ben` Ryan Thompson, 19, of 1708 Pee Dee Road, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy.

funeral service is 1 PM Saturday, May 19 at Stoney Fork Baptist Church, with Reverend Terry Burris and Reverend Flynn Richardson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM this evening at the Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Street, Troy, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Thompson was a Montgomery County native, and a member of Stoney Fork Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Montgomery High School, and a student at Montgomery Community College.

Survivors include his parents, Dale and Sharon Gaddy Thompson of the home; two brothers, Justin and Cory Thompson, of the home; his paternal grandparents, Jarrett and Pearl Thompson of Mt. Gilead; and his maternal grandparents, Walter Ed and Billie Rose Gaddy of Mt. Gilead.

Arrangements are by Pugh-Troy Funeral Home.

Rufty, Willie Lee Wood

SALISBURY -- Mrs. Willie Lee Wood Rufty, 89, died May 16, 2001. Funeral is 2 pm today at Summersett Memorial Chapel, interment in Rowan Memorial Park. Visitation 1 hour prior to service. Summersett Funeral Home in charge.

Wilson, Louise Sells

HICKORY -- Louise Sells Wilson, 85, died May 5, 2001. Funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highland United Methodist Church. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Hickory Funeral Home.

Bebber, W. C.

MOORESVILLE -- Mr. W. C. Bebber age 68 of Mooresville, NC, died Sunday, May 6, 2001 at his residence. He was born July 16, 1932 in Alexander County son of the late William D. Bebber and Hazel Reid Bebber Smith. W.C. was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class. Past master of Williams Masonic Lodge #176 A. F. & A.M. and Patron of Eastern Star, Davidson Chapter. Former scout leader and past president of Cornelius Lions Club. He retired from the W.A. Buening Engraving Co.

Surviving are his wife, Eloise Sherrill Bebber, one son, Michael W. Bebber and wife Susanne of Korea; daughter, Penelope Bebber Brown and husband Ronnie of Huntersville, NC, brother, John L. Smith, Jr. and wife Vicki of Forsyth, GA, sister, Gracie S. Howington of Mooresville, NC, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Dr. Terry Matthews officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Raymer Funeral Home.

CHESTER -- Mary Orr Freeman, 92, died Sunday, May 6, 2001. Graveside service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chester Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street, Chester, SC.

Setzer, Shirley Summey

GASTONIA -- Mrs. Shirley Summey Setzer, 64, of 1514 Edinborough Lane, died Sunday, May 6, 2001 at her residence. A native of Gaston County, daughter of the late Lonnie E. Summey, she was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College. She was retired from Gaston County School System and was a member of Lutheran Church of The Redeemer.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Giles G. Setzer; 2 sons and daughters-in-law; Tim and Debi Setzer of Asheboro, NC, Bryan and Linda Setzer of Matthews, NC; mother, Mrs. Queen M. Summey of Dallas, NC; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Ted Goins, Patsy Sellers, Linda and David Hoyle all of Dallas, NC; 3 granddaughters, Shea Setzer of Asheboro, Jena Carlisle of Charlotte, and Niki Polen of Monroe and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 at The Lutheran Church of The Redeemer, Gastonia with Rev. Jim Dumond officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, May 7 at McLean Funeral Directors. Burial ill be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Dallas.

Pallbearers will be Ted Goins, Jr., John Goins, Dave Hoyle, Dave Gignac, Gary McConnell, Nash Hardy, Todd Beam, and Mike Clemmer.

Memorial may be made to The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1915 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054 or Hospice of Gaston County, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.

Huneycutt, Mary Whitley

ALBEMARLE -- Mrs. Mary Whitley Huneycutt, 96, died May 5, 2001. Funeral is 3 p.m. Tuesday at Congregational Christian Church. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. May 7, 2001 at Stanly Funeral Home.

Breitenstein, George Patrick

George Patrick Breitenstein, 86, formerly of Stevens Point, WI, passed away on May 4, 2001 in Charlotte after a valiant seven year battle with kidney disease. Born July 5, 1914 in Stockton, WI, George was the sixth of seven children of Anthony William Breitenstein and Mary Kupsch Breitenstein. He married Mary Margaret Bentley on October 28, 1939 at St. Stephen Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on April 14, 1998.

While a member of the St. Stephen Parish for over 60 years, George was active in the Knights of Columbus, Msgr. McGinley Council and served as a former Faithful Navigator. After attending St. Norbert College, he joined the family-held A.W. Breitenstein Co. where he held a management position until 1967 when he joined the Okray Produce Co. as office manager until he retired in 1977.

Upon retirement, George and Mary moved to New Port Richey, FL and in 1994 they moved to Charlotte to be closer to their family where they were loved and well care for.

George is survived by three children, Patricia (Richard) Scherer, Ann Arbor, MI, George T. Breitenstein, Seoul, Korea and Waupaca, WI, and Carl (Robert) Sexton, Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Kevin, Michael, Christopher (Sonia) and Elizabeth Scherer, Eric and Jeffrey Breitenstein, and Robert and Anne Sexton, two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Christopher Scherer and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters; Mary Breitenstein, Mabel Breitenstein, Grace Berdan and Peggy (Louise) Moss and by two brothers; Melvin and Robert Breitenstein.

Known as a man of integrity, honesty, and selflessness, George's wit, gentleness, charm and patience will be deeply missed by all who have known him. In particular he was loved for his devotion to his family and friends.

According to George's wishes cremation has taken place. A Mass of Christian Passage and interment will take place in Wisconsin.

George's family would like to acknowledge the staff at the Mecklenburg Health Care Center and Baxter Metrolina Kidney Center in Charlotte for the kind and compassionate care he received.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation of North Carolina, 5950 Fairview Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210.

Carolina Funeral and Cremation is entrusted with arrangements.

DeBruhl, Alvo Gainey

KERSHAW -- Mrs. Alvo Gainey DeBruhl, 84, wife of Mr. Ruben DeBruhl, of 2960 Lockhart Road, Kershaw, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2001 at the Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden. She was born May 17, 1916, in Kershaw, a daughter of the late Henry and Lottie Knight Gainey. A homemaker, Mrs. DeBruhl attended the Rufuge Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mrs. DeBruhl will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. from the Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel by the Rev. Don Knight and the Rev. Keith Coates. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Camden.

Mrs. DeBruhl is survived by her husband, Mr. Ruben DeBruhl; two sons, Mr. Michael DeBruhl and Mr. Gary DeBruhl both of Kershaw; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Carolyn) McCall of Kershaw and Mrs. Ronnie (Vicki) Nelson of Camden; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Mrs. DeBruhl was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Betty Jo `Sam' Hilton.

Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2001 at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel and other times at the home of Vicki and Ronnie Nelson, 347 Truesdale Road, Camden.

Lytton, Charles Tatum

HICKORY -- Charles Tatum Lytton, age 77, of Pinoak Drive, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Frye Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Lytton was born in Iredell County to the late Woodrow Lytton and Nellie Holeman Lytton. He was a service manager for an automobile dealership, and a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Wilson Lytton of the home; son, Gary Lytton and wife, Cheryl Mays of Bethlehem; Grandchildren, Charles Scott Lytton and wife, Leslie of Huntersville, NC and Tracy Lytton and wife, Pam of Bethlehem; great-grandchildren, Eric Gibson and Carrie Gibson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Jessie Rushing. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday following the service at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Hickory.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 318 Telephone Exchange Road, Hickory, NC 28603.
