VALE -- Mrs. Theresa Jane Schwegman Murnan, 69, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at her residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carothers Funeral Home Gastonia.

Davis, Michael David

FORT MILL -- Mr. Michael David Davis, 44, of 9938 Sandra Lane, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at his home. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A native of Bloomfield, Iowa, Mr. Davis was a son of Richard Dale Davis and Patsy Marie Chapman and was a member of Manchester Creek COmmunity Church.

Surviving are his wife, Marguerite Gerdes Scott of the home; daughter, Susanne Lujan of Rock Hill; one sister, Cara Watkins of Jamestown, Ca.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 500 East Moorehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.

Ledford, Norman Hugh

LENOIR -- Norman Hugh Ledford, 69, died Monday, May 21, 2001. Funeral 11am Thursday, Yadkin Baptist Church; interment in church cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 7-9pm, Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Caldwell-Ray, Ethel Mae

Ethel Mae Caldwell-Ray, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at her home. She was 94. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Lowe Funeral Home is serving the Ray family.

Hoke, Clara Mae Cochrane

Clara Mae Cochrane Hoke, 73, of Charlotte, died May 21, 2001 after a brief illness.

funeral service is 2 pm Thursday, May 24 at the Catawba Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Earl Pennell of Woodlawn Baptist Church of Charlotte officiating. Interment will be in Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. Serving as pallbearer will be Michael Scott McKnight and Kevin Brent McKnight. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm this evening, May 23, at Catawba Funeral Home of Hickory.

Born in Morganton, NC on March 25, 1928, Clara was a daughter of the late Glenn Winston Cochrane and the late Maude Cochrane McCree. She had retired from her position as personnel manager with K-Mart, and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Charlotte.

Survivors include two daughters, Tamara Beaver of Midland, and Kathy McKnight of Mooresville; one son, Jennings Hoke of Lancaster, SC; one brother, Gene Cochrane of Newton; and five grandchildren, Michael Scott McKnight of Mooresville, Kevin Brent McKnight of Kernersville, Brian Matthew McKnight of Mooresville, Scott Edward Hoke of Denver, and Kimberly Nichole Beaver of Midland.

Memorials may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4622 Nations Crossing Road, Charlotte, NC 28217, or to Hospice of Charlotte.

Catawba Funeral Home of Hickory is in charge of arrangements.

Branch, William `Bill` Diogenese

MOORESVILLE -- Mr. William `Bill` Diogenese Branch, 81, of South Magnolia Street, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Maple Leaf Nursing Home, Statesville.

Born on August 2, 1919, in Lincoln County, NC, he was a son of the late George Franklin and Mary Parker Branch. Mr. Branch was retired office manager of Mooresville Ford, having 46 years of service. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer. Mr. Branch was the recipient of five battle stars and one bronze star while in the service. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Mooresville, where he served in numerous positions. Mr. Branch was past President of the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club. He also served 15 years on the Iredell Planning/Zoning Committee. Mr. Branch was preceded in death by a brother, Robert `Dick` O'Neal Branch.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Brown Branch, whom he married November 1, 1941; a son, Mike Branch and wife, Beverly, of California, MD; sisters, Helen B. Christie of Wilkesboro, Nell Everhardt of Mooresville, Kathleen Dellinger of Hickory, and Barbara London of Kings Mountain; grandchildren Brad Branch and Matt Branch; and great grandchildren, Jake and Kathy.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Friday, May 25, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel in Mooresville, with Reverend Phil DeBerry officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30-3 PM, prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, NC Southern Pines Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family of Mr. Branch.

Ledford, Roy Augustus

VALE -- Mr. Roy Augustus Ledford, age 50, of 1052 Alf Hoover Road, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at his home.

His funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, May 25, 2001 at Reepsville Baptist Church. Rev. Nicholas King will be officiating. His body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Ledford was born in Lincoln County on July 19, 1950. He was a textile employee. He was preceded in death by his father, Burns Augustus Ledford.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Junie Hayes Ledford of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Connie L. Cochrane and son-in-law, Jim of Vale, NC; mother, Mrs. Fannie Carpenter Ledford of Lincolnton; three brothers, Gene Ledford of Cherryville, NC, Adam Ledford and Clyde Ledford of Lincolnton, NC; two sisters, Mrs. Diane Hoyle of Cherryville, NC, and Mrs. Bertha Hester of Lincolnton, NC; three grandchildren, Thomas Langley, Kevin Langley, and Stewart Cochrane.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00pm until 8:30pm at Warlick Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar St., Lincolnton, NC 28092 or Reepsville Baptist Church, 1513 Alf Hoover Rd, Vale, NC 28168.

Fulp, Cletus Odell

Mr. Cletus Odell Fulp, 88, of Charlotte, died May 23, 2001 at the Brian Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, May 26, at the Little Church on the Lane, 528 Moravian Lane. The Fulp family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Friday at Harry and Bryant Company, 500 Providence Road.

A complete biography will appear in tomorrow's paper.

Harry and Bryant Company is serving the family of Mr. Fulp.

Pitts, Margaret South

KANNAPOLIS -- Mrs. Margaret South Pitts, 81, died Monday, May 21, 2001. Services will be 4 pm Wednesday, May 23, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 3-4 pm this evening, May 23, at Whitley's Funeral Home of Kannapolis.

Rosenbaum, Jamie E.

Jamie E. Rosenbaum, 31, of Charlotte, died at his home Wednesday, May 23, 2001. The family will receive friends Friday, May 25, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins & Whittington funeral service.

Jamie was born in Abingdon, Virginia, February 15, 1970, son of Jerry A. Rosenbaum, Sr. and Connie Thomas Biller. He was a big Jeff Gordon fan, and enjoyed fishing when he was able to get away. Mr. Rosenbaum attended Thrift Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Jerry A. Rosenbaum, Jr. of Bland, Va and Kenneth Biller of Charlotte; three sisters, Jessica Peck and Paula Cable, both of Charlotte, and Bobbie Spicer of Narros, Va, and a very special friend, Duane Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Boulevard.

Curbeam, John S.

CHESTER -- Mr. John S. Curbeam, 80, died Monday, May 21, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester, SC is in charge.

Schenk, Ola Stricker

SALISBURY -- Ola Stricker Schenk, 84, died May 22, 2001 at her home. Funeral is 2 PM Thursday, May 24 at Salem Lutheran Church, interment in the church cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 PM tonight at Lyerly Funeral Home.

Stevens, Robert

LANCASTER -- Mr. Robert Stevens, age 76, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born June 9, 1924 in Lancaster a son of the late Edward Lewis and Mary Sims Stevens, and was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Johnson Stevens and son, Randolph Stevens. Mr. Stevens was a member of White Springs Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. from the Lancaster Chapel of Cauthen Funeral Homes. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Stevens is survived by a son, Mr. Buddy Stevens and wife,Linda of Lancaster; three daughters, Mrs. Bob (Joyce) Wheeler of St. Louis, Mo, Ms. Judi Crook and Mrs. Milton (Marylon) Stalls, Jr., both of Lancaster; two brothers, Mr. Eugene Stevens and Mr. James Stevens of Lancaster; sister, Mrs. Annie Grace Rivers of Lancaster; ten grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 23, 2001 from 7 until 9 p.m. from the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and other times from the home of Judi Crook, 1061 Grace Avenue, Lancaster.

Memorial contributions may be made to the WHite Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 1249 Grace Avenue, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Jackson, Thelma Tanner

LOWELL -- Thelma Tanner Jackson, 78, of 924 Moose St., died May 22, 2001 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Mamie Neal Tanner and wife of the late James S. Jackson. She was a homemaker and member of West Cramerton United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Richard and Charles Jackson.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jackson, home, Jennings and Mary Jackson, Greenville, Tenn.; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Vernon Moss, Lowell, Geraldean and Neil Lewis, Pawley's Island, S.C.; sister-in-law, Lucille Weston, Kalamazoo, Michigan; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren.

Graveside Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Gaston Memorial Park, Rev. Harold Schwantes.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia.

Yoder, Glenn Ray

VALDESE -- Mr. Glenn Ray Yoder, 71, loving husband, father, grandfather and educator of Valdese, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 unexpectedly.

Mr. Yoder was born December 22, 1929, in Catawba County to the late Lemuel and Cordie Mae Bowman Yoder. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served as a Corporal in the Military Police. Glenn retired from the Burke County School System after 35-plus years of service, with 27 years as Principle of Valdese Elementary School.

Glenn was proud to be a member of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Club Director, Youth Fellowship Advisor, Lifetime Member of Men church, Chairman of the Board for Agape, Clerk of Session on a number of occasions, Chairman of the Service Committee, active member of the Monday Morning Prayer Group, Volunteer for the Good Samaritan Clinic, and active on several other Church Committees.

He was a member of the Affordable Housing Committee for the Town of Valdese, and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and was chosen as Man of the Year by the Jaycees. Glenn was past president of the Valdese Lions Club and presently served as Tail Twister.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Phyllis Hughes Yoder of the home; daughters Lola Renee Yoder, and Kymberly Pennington and her husband Dean, all of Hickory; his sister, Pansy Y. Bumgarner of Conover; two granddaughters, Alexis Rae Pennington and Abigail Mae Pennington, both of Hickory; and one expected grandson.

Graveside services for family and close friends will be 2:30 PM Friday, May 25, in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with Reverend Paul Felker and Reverend Russell officiating. Memorial services will follow at 3 PM in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church.

The Yoder family will receive friends following the services in the Fellowship Hall of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church.

Memorials may be made to the Service Committee of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church, PO Box 216, Valdese, NC 28690.

Heritage funeral service, Valdese, is assisting the Yoder family.
