Gladys Belle Moore Elliott

Born: April 2, 1906
Died: October 22, 2003

Charlotte, NC - Mrs. Gladys Moore Elliott passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2003. Mrs. Elliott was born on April 2, 1906 in Concord, NC. Following the death of her beloved husband, Jack, Mrs. Elliott moved to Charlotte. She managed Mill Fabrics, Inc. located on Park Road for many years. She was a professional and very talented seamstress. Mrs. Elliott loved her hometown of Concord and was a life long member of Trinity United Church of Christ.
In addition to husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mac B. Moore and Annabelle Amanda Miller Moore, and her brothers, Clarence, Arnold, Harry, and Carl Moore.
Mrs. Elliott is survived by her beloved and devoted daughter, Margaret E. Bell, who has taught us all a lesson in love and devotion. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Margie E. Neal and Louise Moore; three granddaughters, Betsy Griffin, Nancy Shaw and her husband, Ed, Meg Newton and her husband, Kris; and four great grandchildren, Eddie and Griffin Shaw and Kayley and Amy Newton; and a close family friend, Thelma Bradley.
Mrs. Bell and the family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Beverly Healthcare and Dr. John Benedum for their loving care.
Visitation and celebration of Mrs. Elliott’s life will be at the home of Nancy and Ed Shaw, 1806 Bobolink Lane, Charlotte, from 6 to 8:00 p.m. tonight.
Mrs. Elliott’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2003, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 38 Church Street, NE, Concord. The Rev. J. Nathan King will officiate. The body will be in state at the church from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.

Marvin Thomas Todd, II

Born: February 15, 1962
Died: May 28, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Marvin Thomas Todd, II, 42, of 1126 Emanuel Street, Kannapolis, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Enoch Lutheran Church. Rev. John Mark Beam and Rev. Constance Garrett will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mr. Todd was born February 15, 1962 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of Guy Alexander Todd of Concord and Lois Jane Hilton of Kannapolis. He was a truck driver.
Mr. Todd, in addition to his parents, is survived by his wife Marla Frances Overcash Todd; son, Jay Alexander Todd, Sr. of Kannapolis; daughter, April Hursey Poteat of Kannapolis; two sisters, Nancy Todd Jackson of Holly Springs, NC and Pamela Lynnett Helms of Kannapolis; brother, Phillip Todd of Matthews; six grandchildren, Nate, Brennen, Laken, Brooke, Alex, and Brayden.

Rachael Odell Long

Born: September 26, 1915
Died: June 1, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - Mrs. Rachael Odell Long, 88, of 1113 Thomas Avenue, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Avante at Concord.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. The Rev. Richard A. Rhoades and the Rev. Hoke H. Ritchie will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the reception room at the church. At other times they will be at their respective homes.
Born September 26, 1915, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Walter C. Odell and Elizabeth Ritchie Odell. She retired several years ago from the sheet department at Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. Mrs. Long was a life member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church and the Kannapolis Homemakers Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ray Long; a son, James Ritchie Long; a sister, Mary Ellen Goodnight; and two brothers, Walter C. Odell, Jr. and George Odell.
Survivors include two sons, Michael A. "Mike" Long of Charlotte and William R. "Bill" Long and his wife, Mary, of Hickory; a brother, James L. Odell and his wife, Phyllis, of Kannapolis; a sister-in-law, Alice Odell of Concord; two brothers-in-law, Lucius Long and his wife, Sammy, and Howard Long, all of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Robin L. Leatherwood and her husband, Phillip, of Kannapolis, Heather L. Wallace and her husband, Charles, of Wichita, Kansas and Melinda L. Long of Hickory; and one great-grandchild, William Charles Wallace of Wichita, Kansas.
Memorials may be sent to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, 101 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Carl Arnold Rickard

Born: May 26, 1949
Died: May 31, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Carl Arnold Rickard, 55, of Kannapolis, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.
Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at St. John's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Roger Lee will officiate. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the fellowship hall at the church.
Born May 26, 1949 in Cabarrus County, he was a son of Ava Cook Rickard of Kannapolis and the late Hearne Franklin Rickard. He was employed as a computer operator at Philip Morris in Concord. He was a former member of the Kannapolis Volunteer Fire Department and a special deputy with the Rowan County Sheriff's Department.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Cathy Medlin Rickard; a son, Casey Andrew Rickard and his wife, Becky, of the US Navy, San Diego, California; and a brother, Hearne F. "Rick" Rickard II and his wife, Danita, of Kannapolis.
Memorials may be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Rev. Joseph Calvin Yates

Born: November 11, 1924
Died: June 6, 2004

Beaufort, NC - The Rev. Joseph Calvin Yates, 79, of Beaufort and formerly of Kannapolis, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. James Gurganus and the Rev. Carroll Bradbury will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at their respective homes.
Rev. Yates was born November 11, 1924, in Johnston County, GA. He was a son of the late Joseph and Polly Tucker Yates. A veteran of World War II, he was honorably discharged after serving in the United States Navy. Rev. Yates was an ordained Free Will Baptist pastor who was active in his ministry for over 50 years. He was pastor of several churches in the western part of the state prior to moving to Eastern North Carolina. Rev. Yates was pastor of Saratoga Free Will Baptist Church, St. Mary's Free Will Baptist Church in Kenly and Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church in Newport and held revivals at several churches. He retired from the ministry on August 24, 2002.
Rev. Yates is survived by his wife, Doris E. Yates; three sons, Danny Yates and his wife, Barbara, of Beaufort, Donnie Yates and his wife, Pamela, of Angier, Dennis Yates and his wife, Pat, of Kannapolis; a brother, Ray Yates of Kannapolis; 11 grandchildren, Kevin Yates, Kelly Yates, Donnie Yates, Jr. and his wife, Julie, Leah Yates, Gary Altman, Wiley Altman, Elizabeth Yates, Meredith Yates, Stacy Yates, Jody Yates and Brittany Yates; and two great-grandchildren, Emily Yates and John Yates.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Yates Family Life Center, c/o Saratoga Free Will Baptist Church, PO Box 196, Saratoga, NC 27873.

Hubert Harold Keever

Born: October 4, 1924
Died: May 25, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Hubert Harold Keever, 79, of 2307 S. Cannon Boulevard, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center, following several years of declining health and a serious illness of three weeks.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Larry Pittman will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born October 4, 1924, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Luther E. Keever and Lucy McConnell Keever. He had lived in this area since 1938 and retired several years ago from the Pipe and Plumbing Department of Fieldcrest-Cannon Mills. Mr. Keever was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Royal Oaks Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of Royal Oaks Optimist Club for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Scarboro Keever; a daughter, Jan Searles and her husband, Al, of Warsaw; a brother, Ed Keever of Kannapolis; two grandchildren, A. J. Searles and Emily Searles of Warsaw; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Alma Presson Funderburk

Born: July 10, 1908
Died: July 2, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - Ms. Alma Presson Funderburk, 95, a resident of Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis and formerly of Lane Street, passed away on the evening of July 2, 2004, with her family at her side. She had been in declining health for the last four years and seriously ill three months.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Jackson Park United Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Halipilias will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in the gymnatorium at Jackson Park United Methodist Church. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Perline Hager, 2104 Bertha Street, Kannapolis.
Born July 10, 1908, in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Mark Presson and Lula Terry Presson. She retired several years ago from the spinning room at Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. She was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church where she was active in the Jet Set.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Reece Presson.
Survivors include two daughters, Perline Hager and her husband Robert, of Kannapolis and Carrie Ann Barker of Landis; a son, Wayne Funderburk and his wife, Shirley, of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Rufus Leroy Lambert

Born: July 16, 1918
Died: July 24, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - The Rev. Rufus Leroy Lambert, 86, of 505 North Enochville Ave., Kannapolis, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Northeast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Eastside Freewill Baptist Church, Concord, with the Revs. James Ward and Jesse Overcash officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The body will lie in state from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the church. Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 26, at Lady’s Funeral Home.
Mr. Lambert was born July 16, 1918 in Cabarrus County. He was the pastor and founder in 1962 of Eastside Freewill Baptist Church on Crestmont Drive, Concord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lambert and Alice Dulin Lambert.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Lambert; two daughters, Jewell Mills and husband James of Kannapolis, and Loretta Callicutt of the home; a son, Wayne Lambert and wife Karen of Kannapolis; two sisters, Ethel Greene of Chicago, and Lula Helms of Concord; two brothers, the Rev. James Lambert of Morganton, and Sam Lambert of Mooresville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Eastside Freewill Baptist Church, c/o 2305 McGee St., Kannapolis, NC in memory of the Rev. Lambert.

Ralph Wiley Beck

Born: December 22, 1927
Died: July 25, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Ralph Wiley Beck, 76, of 200 Dalewood Avenue, Kannapolis, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born December 22, 1927 in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Adam Covington Beck and Alice Honbarrier Beck. He retired several years ago from the No. Six weave room of Fieldcrest-Cannon Plant One where he was employed for 50 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Ann Beck; and two brothers, Adam Ray Beck and James Melvin Beck.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Corn Beck; two daughters, Raphaelle Plott and her husband Ray of Concord and Linda B. Burchfield of Hallandale Beach, Florida; a son, Ralph Wiley Beck II and his wife Angela of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Heather Linn and her husband Daniel of Concord, Michael Burchfield of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Tangelia Beck and Tabittha Beck, both of Concord; two great-grandchildren, William Hunter Linn and Hannah Rae Linn, both of Concord; and a sister-in-law, Eunice P. Beck of Kannapolis.

Robert Kirk Davis

Born: May 25, 1914
Died: July 29, 2004

Kannapolis, NC - Mr. Robert K. Davis, 90, of Pennsylvania Avenue, Kannapolis, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jim Bowen will officiate. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hills Cemetery in Salisbury.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born May 25, 1914, in Lexington, NC, he was a son of the late Sandy E. Davis and Maggie Kirk Davis. He retired several years ago from Cannon Mills. He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and was a US Army veteran of World War II.
His wife, Lula Belle Miller Davis, preceded him in death on October 12, 1995.
Survivors include a brother, Bruce Davis of Kannapolis; a caregiver and niece, Elaine Allen of Concord; and a number of nieces and nephews.
