NEVADA “VADA” C. SIMPSON
Nevada “Vada” Counts Simpson, 66, of Staley died Thursday, (12-16-04) at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Siler City.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday (12-18-04) at Holly’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Mark Ainsworth officiating. Burial followed in Staley Cemetery.
Mrs. Simpson was a native of Logan, W.V., retired from Plastic Manufacturing in Michigan, and attended Holly’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include a brother, David Counts of Erin, TN.; and sister, Lois Jean Hunsucker of Staley.
WRENN W. BURGESS
Wrenn Wood Burgess, 88, of Ramseur died Thursday, (12-16-04) at High Point Regional Hospital.
funeral service was held at 11 am on Saturday, (12-18-04) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Ramseur with Rev. Frank Hoover officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Ridge Christian Church Cemetery.
Mr. Burgess was a native of Randolph County, retired from Boling Chair Company, and a WWII Army Veteran.
Survivors include a son, Wayne D. Burgess of Ramseur; step-daughter, Brenda S. Hale of Winston-Salem; sister, Minnie Hancock of Franklinville; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
ELIZABETH STREET WHITEHEAD
Elizabeth S. Whitehead, 89, of Siler City, died Thursday (12-16-04) at SunBridge Care Facilities.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, (12-18-04) at Glendon Christian Church in Glendon with Rev. Jack Phillips officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Whitehead was a native of Moore County, a long-time resident of Chatham County; a member of Glendon Christian Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, James Cletus Whitehead of Siler City and a sister, Candace Street Simmons of Glendon.

MICHAEL WAYNE MILLER
Michael Wayne Miller, 33, of Bennett died Wednesday (12-15-04) at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, (12-24-04) at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Austin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Miller was a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., a carpenter and attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Brown Miller; daughter, Carrie Allred; son, Zachary Miller, all of the home; mother, Dianne V. Gilreath of Pleasant Garden; Father, Jack Miller of McDonough, Ca.; brother, Ron Miller of Greensboro; grandmother, Fae Boehme of Dunlap, Ca.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home in Bennett and other times at the Melvin and Linda Brown residence, 6812 Joe Branson Road in Bennett.
REV. RALPH L. GRIFFIN
Rev. Ralph L. Griffin, 93 of Bear Creek died Saturday, (12-18-04) at the home of his daughter.
Rev. Griffin, was a native of Walker County, Georgia, a retired textile supervisor with LaFrance Mfg. Plant and a retired Baptist Minister of Oakdale Baptist Church in South Carolina. He previously served as interim pastor of Brush Creek and Community Baptist Churhes in the Siler City area.
Survivors include daughters, Gaynelle Armour of Bear Creek, Barbara Berry of Norris, S.C., Frances Lewis of Calhoun Falls, S.C.; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, (12-21-04) at Second Baptist Church in Pendleton, S.C.

EMILY MASHBURN SMITH BEAL
Emily Mashburn Smith Beal, 74, of Goldston died Saturday, (12-18-04) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, (12-21-04) at 11 am at Carbonton United Methodist Church in Sanford with Rev. Frank Lloyd officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Beal was of native of Montgomery County, a member of Carbonton United Methodist Church, and retired from Quality Molding in Siler City.
Survivors include daughters, Minnie Painter of Bonlee, Emma Newell and Emily Oldham, both of Goldston, Rebecca Stuart of Robbins, Nellie Stone of Lillington, Kathy Beal Foushee of Siler City, Vera Beal Hawthorne of White Lake, Gloria Beal Butry of Hope Mill; son, Mark Beal of Asheboro, sisters, Ruth Parnell of Greensboro, Polly Lewis of High Point, Jean Beal of Siler City, Shirley Smith of East Over, S.C.;
brothers, George Mashburn of Sanford, David Mashburn of Robbins, Joseph Mashburn of Smithfield, Va.; 13 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
KENNETH R. LESTER
Kenneth R. Lester, 66, of Apex died Sunday (12-19-04).
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday (12-23-04) at 12 p.m., at Raleigh Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor Louis Badenhorst officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church beginning at 10 am.
He was a native of Broome County, N.Y. He worked for Singer-Link as an electrical designer and later, as a residential carpenter. He was a member of the Pittsboro SDA Church where he was currently serving as head elder.
Survivors include his wife Elaine Kane Lester; daughters, Teri Brooks of Charlotte, Debra Lester of Holly Springs, Theresa Russell of Garner, Chrisy Sloop and Denise Burke, both of Willow Springs; sons, James Lester of Garner, Thomas Lester of Willow Springs and Kenny Lester of New York; sisters, Rose Matson of Virginia Beach, Va., Bonnie Gross of Vestal, NY; brother, Billy Swingle of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

LILYAN DUKE
Mrs. Lilyan Hancock Duke, 81, 109 Manley Lane, Statesville, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, December 14, 2004, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
She was born September 21, 1923, in Chatham County North Carolina to the late George Hancock and Roxie Phillips Hancock. She was a graduate of Bonlee High School and attended business college.
On December 23, 1942, she married Walter Columbus Duke, who survives and is now a resident of Autumn Care of Statesville. She was a loving, caring and dedicated wife for almost 62 years and cared for her husband at home several years until 8 months ago.
She was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church. She and her husband served numerous churches in Florida and North Carolina, he as a minister and she as a pianist.
She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed. She loved the Lord and her family and this was reflected to all. She was an encourager who always had a positive outlook on life and a sweet smile for everyone.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, three of whom were ministers, and three sisters. Surviving is one sister, Virginia Hancock Phillips of Bear Creek, NC.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Robert B. Duke and wife, Judy of Richmond, Va; a daughter, Anna Duke Cabe and husband Wilbur Cabe of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Jakie Cabe (Lindy) of Ft. Worth, Texas; Rebecca Cabe Butler (Linc) of Efland, NC; Robin Duke Miller (Todd) of Richmond, Va.; Sarah Duke Sachs (Evan) of Greenville, SC; Desiree Duke McGregor (Ken) of Charlottesville, Va.; Bobby Duke of Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Michigan; and Chanel Duke of Richmond, Va. and 12 great grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 pm Friday, December 17, 2004, at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. James Cartin and Rev. Ed Yarbrough officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Bailes, Jerry Cline, Jimmy Crider, Delmus Ferguson, Wayne Morrison and Scott Wheeler.

GUYE R. ALBRIGHT
Guye Reid Albright, 87, of Ramseur, died Monday (12-20-04) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Wednesday, (12-22-04) at Maple Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Hileman and Rev. Frank Jarvis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
A native of Randolph County, he retired from Ramtex, Inc., was a WWII Army Veteran and a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Moffitt Albright of the residence; son, Farris Reid Albright of Asheboro; daughters, Ann Smith, Sarah Elizabeth Brady, both of Asheboro, Rebecca Inez Albright of Charlotte; brother, Jesse Lawrence Albright, Jr. of Sierra Madre, Calif.; sister, Mozelle Albright Stout of Ramseur; two grandchildren, one step-grandson, and one great-grandchild.

LARRY O. BINKLEY
Larry Odell Binkley, 61, of Goldston died Sunday (12-19-04) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, (12-21-04) at Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery.
He was a native of Chatham County, a Vietnam Veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 292 and a retired electrician.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara P. Binkley; sons, Larry Michael Binkley of Tampa, Fla., Tim Kinlaw of Raleigh, Marty Kinlaw of Aberdeen; daughters, Robin Thompson of Aberdeen, Holly Binkley of Sanford; mother, Thelma O. Binkley of Goldston; brothers, Gerald Binkley and Tommy Binkley, both of Goldston, Billy Binkley of Bonlee, Ray Binkley of Bear Creek; sisters, Mandi Corns, Diane Moore and Gail Scott, all of Goldston.

BRENDA BROWN WILLIAMS
Mrs. Brenda Brown Williams, 57, of Sanford died Monday, (12-20-04) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, (12-23-04), at Asbury United Methodist Church with Pastors Ira Smith, David Foushee and Lee Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was a native of Scotland County, a former employee of Tuscarora Mills in the winding department, and a homemaker. She attended Asbury United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Oren Wesley Williams; daughter Tina Ford of Pittsboro; sister, Mary Frances Brown Heath of Sanford; brothers, Paul Brown of Sanford and Tony Brown McDaniel of South Carolina; and two grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 7:00 – 9:00 pm Wednesday at Griffin funeral service and Cremation in Pittsboro and at other times at the residence of Mrs. Mary Frances Heath, 431 N. Rocky River Road, Sanford.
JOHN P. MICHON
John P. Michon, 88, of Pittsboro died Monday (12-20-04) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Burial will be in The Kensico Cemetery in Vahalla, N.Y.
Mr. Michon was a native of Weehawken, N.J. and retired accountant with Union Carbide.
