CARL FREDRICK WILKERSON, JR.
Carl Fredrick Wilkerson, Jr., 46, of Siler City died Sunday (08-22-2004).
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, (08-27-2004) at Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Cory Little officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Wilkerson was a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School and he served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Goins Trucking Company of Siler City.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennell Newport of Ohio, mother, Rev. Gennell Wilkerson of Siler City; sisters, Delena Wilkerson of Chicago, Bonita Moffitt and Brenda Foxx, both of Siler City; bother, Anthony Wilkerson of Siler City; and one granddaughter.
WAYON MARSH FISHER
Wayon Marsh Fisher, 77, of Bear Creek died Tuesday (08-24-2004) at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held Saturday, (08-28-2004) at Antioch Christian Church in Bear Creek with Rev. Clark Davis and Rev. Warren Brown officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Fisher was a native of Chatham County, attended Antioch Christian Church, and was retired from Kayser-Roth.
Survivors include his wife, Norva Moffitt of Bear Creek and a sister, Marcelle F. Murray of Greenwood, S.C.

MRS. VERNICE GARNER WILLIAMSON
Mrs. Vernice Garner Williamson, 65, of Asheboro died Wednesday (08-25-2004), at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Graveside funeral services were held Friday, (08-27-2004) at Needham’s Grove Church Cemetery with Rev. Arnold Comer officiating.
Mrs. Williamson was a native of Moore County, former resident of Seagrove, and worked at Milikans in Robbins.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Lee Williamson of Seagrove; sister, Mrs. Ruby Jones of Bennett; and two grandsons.
CLARENCE MAYNARD (SHORTY) PERRY
Mr. Clarence Maynard (Shorty) Perry, 76, of Liberty died Wednesday (08-25-2004) at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro.
funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, (08-28-2004) at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Johnson and Rev. Jimmy Hill officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Perry was a native of Chatham County, and an Air Force veteran of World War II. He retired from Michael Thomas Furniture.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Coda Pickard Perry of the home; step-daughter, Anita Williamson of Greensboro; and brother, R. D. Perry of Siler City.

ELIZA MAE MORGAN
Eliza Mae Norris Morgan, 88, of Goldston died Wednesday, (08-25-2004) at SunBridge Care Facilities in Siler City.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (08-27-2004) at Raleigh Memorial Park, with Rev. Freddy Powell officiating.
Mrs. Morgan was a native of Bladen County, a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Raleigh, and was retired from Stone School Supply.
Survivors include daughters, Elizabeth Ann Davis of Goldston, Zelma Louise Kornegay of Fuquay-Varina; brothers, David Norris of Youngsville, Norwood Norris of Raleigh; sisters, Gevena N. Huddler of Hope Mills, Annie Kate Peterson of Parkersburg, Betty Melvin of Garland; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
LILLIAN BELL DANIEL MANN
Mrs. Lillian Bell Daniel Mann, 79, died Wednesday, (08-25-2004) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (08-28-2004) at Orange Chapel United Methodist church, with Rev. Pat Sykes officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Mann was a native of Charlotte, a homemaker, and a member of Orange Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John Fletcher Mann, son, Tommy Mann of Pittsboro; daughter, Jennifer Mann of Pittsboro; sisters, Bessie Colcough of Denton, Tx., Roxie Hester of Durham; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two adopted great-grandchildren.
CHARLIE RALPH (Bud) PAIGE, SR.
Ralph (Bud) Paige, Sr., 75, of Bear Creek, died Monday, (08-30-2004) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, (09-02-2004) at 2:00 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. J. R. Bouldin and Rev. Patrick Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Bear Creek.
Mr. Paige was a native of Chatham County, a member of Oakley Baptist Church and retired from Boling Chair Company, Siler City.
Survivors include his wife, Ometer Brady Paige of the home; son, Ralph Paige, Jr. of Bear Creek; daughters, Ann P. Johnson and Janice P. Hackney, both of Bear Creek; sisters, Edith P. Bray and Ruth P. Lowman, both of Bear Creek; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday (09-01-2004) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City. At other times, the family will be at the family home.

FLOYD CLYDE ANDREWS
Floyd Clyde Andrews, 72, of 4829 Grafton Road, died Monday, August 2, 2004 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
funeral service was held Thursday, August 5, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at McLeansville Baptist Church. Interment followed at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Mr. Andrews was born in Chatham County. He retired from Edgecomb Steel Company after 29 years of service. He sang with the Gethsemane Quartette for 44 years and sang Gospel music for 55 years. He was a faithful member of McLeansville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie B. (Penny) Andrews: son, Ted Mark Andrews and his wife Cindy, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Madison Whitney Andrews and Chelsea Nicole Andrews, both of Greensboro. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Etta Hardison; Effie Kendricks; Mildred Hawks; Ruby Fields, and Lessie Harris; brothers, Merd Andrews; Lonnie Andrews; James Andrews; Roy Andrews, and Riley Andrews.
The family received friends at McLeansville Baptist Church Wednesday night from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

THELMA SMITH THOMAS
Thelma Smith Thomas, of Moncure, born December 1, 1910, passed away the morning of August 29, 2004 at the age of 93 with all three of her children by her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Robert Clyde Thomas.
Born in Lee County, Thelma was one of eight children to her parents, the late Charles Benjamin and Ida Frances Smith. At the very young age of fifteen, she became the head of the household after her mother's unexpected and early passing. As the primary caregiver for her younger siblings, she began a life of compassionate caretaking which spanned the course of the next seven and half decades.
married to Clyde Thomas in 1931, Thelma immediately set about fashioning a life for her family that exemplified her values; perseverance and determination as witnessed by her unending passion for sewing as an accomplished seamstress.
Her life's work was to raise her children in the eyes of the Lord and to teach them value over valor. She will be most remembered as the binding matriarch of a wonderful family, a woman with timeless spirit and lasting friendships. Her kitchen was always open and her garden abundant with God's bounty to be shared with all those who came to her door, friend and stranger alike. Dedicated to her faith and to her church, Thelma devotedly attended Gum Springs Baptist Church for over 73 years. She was not only an inspiration to all who knew her, but a steadfast believer in the promise of purpose and prayer. The funeral service to celebrate Thelma's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Gum Springs Baptist Church in Moncure. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Frances T. Petty and husband Robert of Sanford, N.C.; son, Robert E. Thomas and wife Becki of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter, Ada Faye Thomas of Moncure, N.C.; grandson, Michael T. Petty of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughter, Sharon P. Arnold and husband Rodney of Moncure, N.C.; granddaughter, Kimberly T. DiLorenzo and husband David of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandson, Robert Bryan Thomas of Bristol, Ct.; grandson, Scott K. Petty and wife Karen of Clemmons, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Charles, Madison, Thomas, Madeline, and Meredith.

CLARA HANCOCK WILKIE
Clara Hancock Wilkie, 92, of Goldston died Sunday, August 29, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Antioch Baptist Church in Goldston with Rev. Don Daniel and Rev. Larry Hutchins officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilkie was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Joyful Ladies Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Betty Poe Hancock, husband Jim Wilkie and eldest great-grandson Kenny Lester.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Wilkie Sloan and husband Bobby of Goldston; sons, Jack Wilkie and wife Faye, Raymond Wilkie and wife Beckie and Harry Wilkie and wife Lee, all of Goldston; sisters, Olline Kelly of Sanford, Evylen Bean of Randleman; grandchildren, Ricky Wilkie, Mike Wilkie, Dawn Wilkie, Ann Wilkie, Tammie Wilkie, Bobby Ray Sloan, Brian Sloan, Robert Dean Wilkie, Jimmy Wilkie, Diane Lester; and seven great-grandchildren.

JAMES MONROE (MONK) ALFORD
James Monroe (Monk) Alford, 88, of Chapel Hill passed away on August 27, 2004 at UNC Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was an automobile mechanic who worked for Harris Conners Chevrolet for thirty-five years. He was a veteran of World War II who served in the South Pacific in Company L of the 124th Infantry of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Bells Baptist Church in Apex, N.C.
He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-eight years, Adell Iris Alford, by less than one month. Survivors are nephews, Herbert Monroe McCartney, William Thomas Alford, Eddie Kimball, Stanley Lloyd Alford, Robert Hunt, Jr., Larry Powell, Wayne Powell, and Samuel Boggs; nieces, Ann McCartney Earls, Juanita McCartney Frank, Jane McCartney Ingalls, Debra Alford George, Karen Alford Cook, Faye Suitt Rector, Carolyn Suitt Brantly, Rachel Alford Waller, Denise Alford Kennedy, Carolyn Hunt Adams and Vickie Boggs Cecil.
A memorial service commemorating the lives of both "Monk" and Adell Alford will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at the Bells Baptist Church in Apex, N.C. Visitation at the church will follow the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Bells Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1274 Farrington Road, Apex, N.C. 27523.
The family is being served by Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill.
ESTHER LUCILLE GRIFFIN
Esther Lucille Griffin, 83, of Siler City died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at Hospice Home in Burlington.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 2, 2004 at 11:00 am at Cane Creek Friends Meeting in Snow Camp with Rev. Mark Tope officiating. Burial will follow in the meeting's cemetery.
Miss Griffin was a native of Alamance County, a member of Cane Creek Friends Meeting and a former manager of The Pines, Chapel Hill.
Survivors include a son, Larry F. Griffin and wife Karen of Snow Camp; two grandchildren, three step-granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Joan Scripture and her husband, Murray.
Visitation will be held from 7 – 9 p.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the Smith and Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City. At other times, the family will be at the home of the son, Larry Griffin, 633 Roselle Road, Snow Camp, N.C.
