MARY BETH MOON ELDER
Mrs. Mary Beth Moon Elder, age 63, passed away July 11, 2012 at Beacon Place of Greensboro.
A memorial gathering was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at George Brothers funeral service. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Plainfield Friends Meeting in Siler City.
Mrs. Elder was born in Chatham County, to the late Marvin and Phoebe Bare Moon. She retired from the Clerk of Courts Office of Guilford County in February 2003, as an auditor.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Elder of Whitsett, son, Tony Wrenn Elder and daughter-in-law, Christy Redden Elder of Gibsonville. She was loved by her granddaughter, Pailyn Elizabeth Elder.

FRANCES S. HUNNICUTT
Frances Stiles Hunnicutt, 86, of Siler City died Tuesday, (07-03-2012) at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday, (07-07-2012) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, Ramseur with Rev. Noah Albarez officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Knoll Cemetery, Ramseur.
Mrs. Hunnicutt was a native of Guilford County and retired from Burlington Industries.
Survivors include daughters, Sylvia Robinson of Siler City, Pamela Jones of Franklinville, Patsy Ayers of Climax; son, Furmon Hunnicutt, of Franklinville; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

TOM BRADY
Raeford Thomas “Tom” Brady, 65, of Franklinville died Monday, (07-02-2012) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, (07-06-2012) at Cedar Falls Baptist Church, with Rev. Russell Chrisco officiating. Burial followed at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church in Franklinville.
Mr. Brady was a native of Randolph County, retired from Ramseur Interlock, and a member of Cedar Falls Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Bailey Brady of the home; daughter, Marie Brady, of Sarasota, Florida; son, William Thomas “Tom” Brady, of Asheboro; sisters, Bonnie Luck of Asheboro, Sandra Allred of Cedar Falls, Irene Ward of Monroe; and two grandchildren.

ANNIE LAWSON
Ramseur: Annie Wavel Brady Lawson 92, died Sunday (07-08-2012) at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday (07-11-2012) at 11 a.m at Parks Cross Roads Christian Church where she was a member with Rev. Randy Kelly and Rev. James Turner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Lawson was a Randolph County native and a resident at Universal Healthcare in Ramseur. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Lawson; step-son, Alvin Eugene Lawson, and step-daughter, Peggy Lawson Arrington.
Survivors include a step-son, Grady Lawson of Ramseur; step-daughter, Doris Lawson Arrington of Liberty; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
JAMES SAMUEL OVERTON
James Samuel Overton, 91, of Snow Camp died Sunday, (07-08-2012) at Care View Rest Home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial in Dade City, Florida.
Mr. Overton was born in Hoke County on January 10, 1921 the son of Benjamin Franklin and Mary Magdeline Koonce Overton. He was a car salesman.
He is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Merrick of Leesburg, FL; sons, Ben Overton of Sanford, Jim Overton of Palm Harbor, FL; and several grandchildren.

COREEN L. WATSON
Coreen L. Watson, 77, of Siler City died Tuesday, (07-03-2012) .
Funeral services were held Tuesday (07-06-2012) at Glovers Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Watson, a native of Chatham County, was born October 17, 1934 to the late Willie Peoples and Sarah Jane Watson. She attended Chatham Trading School in Siler City. She worked at Mid-State Poultry, was a C.N.A. and a member of Glover’s Grove A.M.E. Zion Church.
Survivors include a son, Paul Thomas Watson; one grandson and four great-grandchildren.
HAMILTON NETTLES
Mr. Hamilton Nettles, 23, of Pittsboro died in an auto accident on Thursday (07-05-2012) .
Funeral services were held Monday (07-09-2012) at First Missionary Baptist Church in Siler City, with burial in Chatham Memorial Park.
Mr. Nettles was employed with WalMart in Siler City.
Survivors include his children, Meya Lynn, Anita Nettles, Preston Matthews Nettles; grandmother, Rev. Annie A. Nettles of Siler City; brother, Marcus Nettles; and sister, Asiaj Nettles.
GEORGE LACY BROOKS
Mr. George Lacy Brooks, 59, of Siler City died Thursday (07-05-2012) at Maple Grove Health and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro.
Funeral services were held Monday (07-09-2012) at Glovers Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Surviving are sisters, Daisy McSwain, Ruby McSwain, Helen Glover, Susan Shoffner, all of Siler City; and brother, Gilbert McSwain of Durham.
PAULINE BARKER POWERS
Pauline Barker Powers, 93, of Siler City died Monday, July 2, 2012 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehab Center in Sanford.
Mrs. Powers was born in Randolph County on February 6, 1919, the daughter of Earl and Annie (Burke) Barker. She was a member of Oakley Baptist Church where she a member of the Friendship Class and taught for 43 years. She was a homemaker known for her sewing ability and she used that ability in working at A J Schneierson and Kellwood. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Powers; her parents; sister, Ollie Barker and brother, Richard Barker.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruby Powers Hart and husband, Phil of Gulf; two sons, Don Powers of Greensboro, David Powers and wife, Cheryl of Southern Pines; three sisters, Swannie Holland of Thomasville, Bertha Marsh of Randleman, Betty Barker of Eden; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
The family received friends Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church, 2300 Siler City-Glendon Road, Siler City.
The funeral was held Thursday at 12 noon at Oakley Baptist Church, with Dr. Brian Sandifer and Rev. Eddie Ellison officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

U.S. AIR FORCE LT. COL. (Ret.) CHAPLAIN
KENNETH EUGENE BEANE
U S Air Force Lt. Col. (Ret) Chaplain Kenneth Eugene Beane, 87, of Fayetteville died Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Universal Health Care of Ramseur.
Mr. Beane was born in Chatham County on July 31, 1924, the son of Elijah and Eula (Pike) Beane. A 1941 graduate of Siler City High School, he was employed for a year and a half at Faircloth Aircraft Corporation in Hagerstown, MD and Burlington, NC until he joined the US Army in 1944. Following Gunnery School he flew 25 combat missions in the Army Air Force in the Southern European Theatre of operations as an engineer gunner based in Italy. After service with the Army Air Corps, he received an AB Degree in 1948 from High Point College in High Point, NC and a Master of Divinity Degree in 1951 from Duke University, Durham, NC.
He was licensed to preach in the Methodist Church in 1946 at Hay Street Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC and ordained as an Elder in the Methodist Church on September 30, 1951 at West Market Street Methodist Church in Greensboro, NC. He rejoined the Army Reserve as a chaplain in 1951 and served in that capacity in the Korean War. As a chaplain, he served in England. On December 1, 1972 he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of service. He then served as a civilian Methodist minister until 1995. He became a member of the North Carolina Methodist Conference in October, 1951. He served as a minister in Methodist churches throughout much of the state. He has served as a United States Air Force Chaplain in six foreign countries and at Air Force Bases in many of the states. Chaplain Beane has been awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal; the Air Force Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters; and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Chaplain Beane was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Johnson Beane; sons, Kenneth Beane, Jr., Richard Frank Beane; his parents, Elijah and Eula Pike Beane; sister, Evelyn Thompson; and brothers, Paul and Donald Beane.
He is survived by sisters, Myrtle B. Stephens and Nancy B. Burke and husband, Carroll; brothers, Dwight Beane and wife, Rachel, Jimmy Beane and wife, Shirley; daughters-in-law, Maureen O’Rourke Beane, Irene Roberts Beane; granddaughters, Melissa B. Chambliss and husband, Trey, Maria Beane, Jennifer Beane, Amanda B. Perez and husband, William; great-granddaughter, Haley Perez; great-grandson, Noah Chambliss; special friends, Ty and Wendy Barnes, Carolyn and Tom Clark and Tom and Toni Lamm.
The family received friends Saturday, July 7, 2012 from 2-3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City, NC.
The funeral was held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny and Rev. Eric Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Mt. TOMMIE MAC “BUD” LOCKLEAR
Tommie Mac “Bud” Locklear, 65, of 806 North Fir Avenue, Siler City, died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Mr. Locklear was born June 6, 1947, the son of Carson and Addie Mae (Hunt) Locklear. He was a native of Robeson County. Bud, as he was known by his friends, was an auto mechanic, having owned the Chatham Car Care in Siler City, after which he became a greeter at Wal-Mart. Tommie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Claudie Locklear; sister, Barbara Ann Locklear; and a grandson, Brandon Edwards.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Badders Locklear of the home; daughters, Candace Locklear of Siler City, Lisa Locklear of Charlotte; sons, Brian Locklear, Brad Locklear, both of Greensboro; grandchildren, Blake, Jacqueline, Starr, Regina, Vanessa, Matthew and Michael; sisters, Mae Deese, Mary Helen West, both of Roland, Aldlean Scott of Maxton; brothers, Carson Locklear, Jr. of Maxton, Billy Locklear of Red Springs; and two great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Monday, July 9, 2012 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Community Baptist Church, 2575 Hamp Stone Road, Siler City with Rev. Mark Agan officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
KEN TROUT
Anyone who met Ken Trout only knew him as a kind, loving, open and giving man. Ken had a unique gift of insightfulness into human behavior learning more about a person within minutes than the person knows of themselves. Friends knew Ken as a man who lived life with passion, loved all people he met, had a unique and honest view of the world and found only good in every man, woman and child.
Ken died peacefully in Pam’s arms at home after a four year battle with cancer.
Ken leaves behind his wife of ten years, Pam Kuder, his good friend and previous wife, Liz Trout, and his brothers, Rich Trout of Denver, and Ron Trout of Helena.
LUCY BERNICE JOHNSON
Lucy Bernice Johnson, 85, of 900 West Dolphin Street, Siler City died Monday, July 9, 2012 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
Ms. Johnson was born in Chatham County on September 18, 1926, the daughter of Thomas Oren and Corrina (Williams) Johnson. She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church and attended Cumnock United Methodist Church. She had worked at A. J. Schneierson & Sons as a sewer. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wilson Johnson and a sister, Margaret Pauline Cole.
She is survived by a niece, Patricia D. Phillips and husband, Ron of Sanford; a nephew, Lewis Johnson and wife, Nancy of Siler City; and several grandnieces and nephews.
A private service will be held.
