PHILLIP REE CASSADY

Phillip Ree Cassady, 58, of Siler City died Thursday, (02-02-2006) at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, (02-05-2006) at Piney Ridge United Methodist Church in Seagrove.

Survivors include daughters, Regina Cassady of Greensboro, Joanna Cassady of Seagrove; son, Chris Cassady of Asheboro; parents, Mary and Elmer Cassady of Seagrove; sisters, Cleata Pope, Brenda Cassady, both of Asheboro, Amy Cassady of Florida; brothers, George Cassady, Kevin Cassady, both of Seagrove, Jerald Cassady, Dennis Cassady, both of Asheboro, Greg Cassady of Durham; and five grandchildren.

MRS. MAIDA LYNCH

Mrs. Maida Lynch, 90 of Bear Creek died Monday, (02-06-2006) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (02-11-2006) at Centennial AME Zion Church with Rev. Charles Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Thomas C. Marsh Cemetery.

Mrs. Lynch was a nurse for Moncure Health Center and a member of Centennial AME Zion Church.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. James Edward Lynch of the home; son, Mr. James Anthony Lynch of Bear Creek; sisters, Mrs. Selma Campbell of Bear Creek, Mrs. Salome Ramsey of Pittsboro, Mrs. Doretha Harris of Sanford, and Mrs. Grace Stanford of New Jersey.

No wake, but the family will be at 6387 Old US 421, Bear Creek.

R. RUTH SMITH

R. Ruth Smith, 95, of 604 East Raleigh Street, Siler City died Friday, February 3, 2006 at the Chatham Hospital, Inc. in Siler City.

Graveside services were held at Loves Creek Baptist Cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2006 with Rev. Bob Hyatt officiating.

Miss Smith was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Siler City High School and Elon College. She taught school for 43 years, teaching at Sylvan Elementary, Bonlee Elementary and Siler City Elementary, Middle School, and Siler City High School. She was a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church where she served as pianist, organist and Sunday school teacher. Miss Ruth served as volunteer for many years at The Chatham Hospital, SunBridge Nursing Facilities and Hospice of Chatham County of which she was a charter member. She was also a charter member of Chatham, Orange and Durham Counties chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers' Fraternity.

Survivors include a cousin, James (Skinner) Edwards of Siler City; nephews, Wade Kirkman of Goldston, Carl Johnson of Selma: and niece, Brenda Kirkman of Siler City.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of UNC, PO Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312; American Cancer Society, W. Chatham Relay for Life, c/o Betty Terry, 519 South Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344; or a charity of choice.

DELBERT E. REITZEL, SR.

funeral service for Delbert E. Reitzel, Sr., who passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at his home, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at First Baptist Church, South Daytona, Fla., with the Rev. Ronnie Barton officiating. Interment services were held at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Siler City on Thursday, February 2, 2006 with Rev. Scott Faw, officiating.

Mr. Reitzel was a native of Siler City, and moved to Florida in 1962. He was owner/operator of Reitzel Mobile Homes and was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of South Daytona. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and NASCAR.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Alberta; two sons, Delbert, Jr., South Daytona, Fla., Ronnie (Debbie), Port Orange, Fla.; sister, Fallie Andrews, Siler City; four grandchildren, Brandy (Doug) White, Ashley, Cole (Nora) Reitzel, and Chad; four great-grandchildren, Tatum, Cole II, Gunnar and Hailey.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dana Reitzel in July, 1986.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.

JIMMY RAY WILKIE

Jimmy Ray Wilkie, 47, of 3078 Robert Chapel Road, Goldston died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at Antioch Baptist Church in Goldston with Rev. Don Daniel officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Wilkie was a native of Chatham County, a member of Antioch Baptist Church, a graduate of Chatham Central High School and East Carolina University. He was a sports writer for The Chatham News, Sanford Herald, Fayetteville Times, Raleigh News & Observer and covered Durham Bulls baseball games.

Survivors include his parents, Jack and Faye Scott Wilkie of Goldston; brother, Robert Dean Wilkie and wife, Phyllis of Liberty; sister, Diane Wilkie Lester and husband, Lynn of Goldston; niece, Lindy Lester; and nephew, Brad Wilkie.

Memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association, 434 Fayetteville Street Mall, Suite 1600, Two Hannover Square, Raleigh, NC 27601.

SCOTT WILLIAM THOMAS

Scott William Thomas, 44 of 6992 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at W.F.U. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Liberty with Rev. Howard Spray, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Thomas was a native of Chatham County, had worked for Southern States and Basic Machinery. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church and was preceded in death by his father, William Harrell Thomas.

Survivors include his wife, Nance McIntosh Thomas of Siler City; mother, Elizabeth Way Thomas of Siler City; sisters, Pat Phillips of Siler City, Ann Thomas of Clear Water, FL., Brenda Summers of Charlotte; father and mother-in-law, Cathy Ammons and husband, Randy of Gastonia; sister-in-laws, Sherry McCart and husband, Nathan, Lisa Caldwell, all of Gastonia; several nieces and nephews, six great-nieces and nephews; and grandmother-in-law, Helen Martin of Gastonia.

HELEN DAVIS FOUSHEE

Mrs. Helen Davis Foushee, 85, of Pittsboro died Wednesday, (01-18-2006) at the Laurels of Chatham.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, (01-20-2006) at Griffin Funeral Home in Pittsboro with Pastor Steve Saunders and Pastor Leonard Nix officiating. Interment followed in Salem Methodist Church Cemetery, Haw River.

Mrs. Foushee was a native of Alamance County, a charter member of Burlington First Wesleyan Church and attended Gum Springs Baptist Church in Moncure. She worked for May Hosiery in Burlington, held a CNA degree, and retired as a switchboard operator from UNC Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Clifton Foushee; son, Davis Stainback of Burlington; daughter, Margaret Gray of Danville, Va.; step-son, Ralph Foushee of Moncure; step-daughter, Evelyn Williams of Moncure; sister, Polly Dudley of Springfield, IL; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Burlington First Wesleyan Church, Anthony Street, Burlington, N.C. or to Gum Springs Baptist Church, Moncure-Pittsboro Road, Moncure, N.C. 27559.

UNA WILLIAMS JONES

Una Williams Jones, 88, of New Hill died Wednesday (01-18-2006) at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Friday (01-20-2006) at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with Rev. Danny Baer officiating. Burial followed in the New Elam Christian Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Cumberland County.

Survivors include a daughter, Zola Mae Jones Morton of Wilmington; son, Bruce S. Jones of Moncure; sister, Ruby W. Lolwing of Moncure; brother, Nathan Williams of Holly Springs; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

RAYMOND GRAHAM SHARPE

Raymond Graham Sharpe, 91, of Bear Creek, died Wednesday, (01-18-2006) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday (01-21-2006) at Antioch Christian Church with Rev. Clark Davis and Rev. Jack Phillips officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Sharpe was a native of Chatham County, an Army veteran and a member of Antioch Christian Church.

Survivors include a brother, Reno C. Sharpe of Bear Creek; and sister, Nettie Sharpe of Siler City.

Memorials may be made to Antioch Christian Church, 246 Antioch Christian Church Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207.

Clarise Buchanan Dawson

Mrs. Clarise Buchanan Dawson, 82, of 315 Holt Avenue, Graham died at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 4:20 p.m. following a brief illness.

A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Johnnie W. Dawson and the daughter of Charles E. Buchanan and Mary Reagans Hamlett Buchanan, both deceased. She was retired from Amtek and was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Patti Nicks and husband Jeff of Graham and Miss Pamela Dawson of the home; one son, Mr. Stanley Buff of Greensboro; one sister, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Fuquay of Leasburg; and two grandchildren, Andrew Dawson and P. J. Nicks.

A graveside service will be conducted at Graham Memorial Park on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Norman M. Whitney.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

JOHN RUSSELL BROOKS

John Russell Brooks, 90, of Siler City died Saturday, (01-21-2006) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday (01-24-2006) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home with Rev. Lamont Hemminger officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Brooks was a native of Chatham County and a cattle farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Adell Petty Brooks of Siler City; son, James C. Brooks of Siler City; daughter, Frances B. Langley of Liberty; brother, Hoke Brooks of Siler City; sisters, Madeline B. Campbell of Sanford, Wilma B. Lemons of Siler City, Marjorie B. Johnson of Rocky Mount; step-son, Larry Johnson of Flagler Beach, Fla; three grandchildren, one great-grandson; two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson.

LAURA MAE HAMILTON TICE

Laura Mae Hamilton Tice, 67, of Siler City died Friday, (01-20-2006) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

All services were private.

Mrs. Tice was a native of Cumberland County, Pa., a seamstress for Sew Special of Asheboro.

Survivors include her husband: Paul Leonard Tice of Siler City; daughters, Robin Holderman, Brenda Davidson; sons, Donald Holderman, Robert Tice, James Tice; sister, Jane McPherson, all of Pennsylvania; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

FLETA P. TROGDON

Fleta P. Trogdon, 96, of Siler City died Monday, (01-23-2006) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, (01-25-2006) at Edward Hill Friends Meeting, with Rev. Josh Conrad and Rev. Linda Green officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Trogdon was a native of Chatham County and worked for Boling Chair Company for 35 years.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara T. Rachel, Janie Marley, both of Siler City; son, Lester (Curley) Trogdon of Siler City, Kenneth L. Trogdon of Chapel Hill; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

MILTON (BUSTER) FOUSHEE

Mr. Milton Foushee, 79, died Friday, (01-20-2006) at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Siler City.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, (01-23-2006) at Jordan Grove AME Zion Church with Rev. James Smith officiating. Burial followed in Lambert Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Foushee was a native of Chatham County, a veteran of World War II, and was a certified barber for many years. He was employed with Selig Manufacturing, a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He was a member of Jordan Grove AME Zion Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, steward, trustee, and church treasurer.

Survivors include sons, Roy Milton Foushee, Anthony Tyrone Foushee, both of Siler City; and five grandchildren.
