Mr. Charles Emil Herbert
SERVICE DETAILS: When: October 1, 2003 11:00 AM
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at West Market Street United Methodist Church. Interment will be private.

Mr. Charles Emil Herbert, Sr., died Sunday, September 28, 2003, at Friends Home West Health Care Unit.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 1, at West Market Street United Methodist Church. A private burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery.

Charles was born June 25, 1909 in Norman, OK, to the late Charles Emmett and Clara McKee Herbert. He received a Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma, in Norman, and was a history teacher and athletic coach in Roswell, NM. After moving to Greensboro he became Assistant Principal at Grimsley High School, Principal at Aycock Jr. High School and at Mendenhall Jr. High School from 1968 to 1974. He later became a Bankruptcy Trustee in Federal Bankruptcy Court serving under Judge Rufus Reynolds.

At West Market Street United Methodist Church he taught Sunday school, was on the Heritage Room Committee, Head Usher and an Honorary member of the Administrative Board. He was a member of the Greensboro Country Club, former member of the Greensboro Civitan Club where he was the secretary-treasurer and President in 1956 and was a member of the Horace Mann League. During WWII he was a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Herbert was an avid reader, golfer, bridge player and gardener.

In addition to his parents, his brother Glenn Herbert, sister, Charlotte Herbert Vaughan and her husband Col. C. Ned Vaughan preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Mary Lyon Herbert; daughter, Virginia Herbert Novelli and husband, Tim, of Santa Rosa, CA; son, Charles E. Herbert, Jr., and wife, Mary, of Medina, NY, son, William L. Herbert, and wife, Jeannie, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Debra Thomas and Gina Gardner, of Santa Rosa CA, Jennifer Herbert Militello and husband, Joseph, of Brooklyn, NY, Margaret Anne Herbert, of Steamboat Springs, CO, William Lyon Herbert, Jr., of Greensboro, Charles Wharton Herbert, of Greensboro, and Charles Keppler Herbert, of Medina, NY. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Col. Curry Vaughan, Col. Gwen Vaughan, Clara Ann Vaughan Jenkins, Charles H. Hooker, Jr. and Mary Anna Hooker Tyson.

The Herbert family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Friends Home West and Daniel Caffrey, MD.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Sunday, October 5, 2003 at Forbis & Dick, North Elm Chapel. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mr. Fred Leon Wyrick, 90, of 4401 Hines Chapel Rd., died Friday, October 3, 2003 at Wesley Long Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Sunday, October 5, 2003 at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, N. Elm Street Chapel with Rev. Milton Wilder officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mr. Wyrick was born on January 1, 1913 in Guilford County a son of the late Luther Elvin and Corrina Wright Wyrick. A U. S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, he retired from Motor Bearing Company.

Survivors include a sister, Etta Reid Wyrick woods of McLeansville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Elvin Wyrick and Ralph Eugene Wyrick and a sister, Hattie Viola Wyrick Greeson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27405.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 P.M. Saturday, October 4, 2003 at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, N. Elm Street and other times at the home of his sister, 4403 Hines Chapel Road.

Dr. William Albert Leonard, Jr.
SERVICE DETAILS: When: October 3, 2003 3:00 PM
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 3:00 PM Friday, October 3, 2003 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Westminster Gardens.

Dr. William Albert Leonard, Jr., 83, of 012 Cleburne St. died Wednesday October 1, 2003 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 3, 2003 in St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Westminster Gardens.

William Albert Leonard, JR. was born on March 13, 1920 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late William Albert and Mary Etta Lannon Leonard. He graduated from Brown University and Tufts Medical School. Dr. Leonard practiced Internal Medicine in Greensboro for many years retiring in 1978. He initiated the first 24 hour emergency room service at Moses Cone Hospital and was a former board member of the Evergreens Nursing Home. Dr. Leonard had a keen interest in the Civil War and Genealogy and was a voracious reader. Following his retirement he and his wife traveled and enjoyed the mountains.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ann Rhoads Leonard of the home; children, Susan Lowe, Carole Vaughan and her husband Gil, Michael Louis Leonard and his wife, Amy, Christopher David Leonard and his wife, Donna, Robert Lawrence Leonard and his wife, Cynthia all of Greensboro, William Albert Leonard, III and his wife, Susan of Banner Elk, Barbara Braswell and her husband, Stanley of Marion, Daniel Scott Leonard and his wife, Rebecca of Roanoke, Virginia, and Thomas Jeffrey Leonard and his wife, Karen of Raleigh; grandchildren Thomas, Christopher, and Bradley Lowe, William IV, Carrie, Matthew, and Christopher Leonard, Jennifer Vaughan, Leah and Brandon Braswell, Travis, Jonathan, Alexander Leonard, Jack, James, and Michael Leonard, Kristen, Mollie, and Austin Leonard, Brian, Nicholas and Zachary Leonard; Scott and Allison Leonard; one great-grandson Griffin Lowe.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 PM on Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Mr. Early Wright Logan

Mr. Early Wright Logan, Jr., 80, of Greensboro died Monday, September 29, 2003 at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Logan will be held 11:00AM on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Forbis and Dick funeral service, Guilford Chapel with Rev. Mark M. Norman Vickers officiating. Interment will follow in Westminster Gardens.

Mr. Logan was retired from Proctor and Gamble after 34 years of service. He was an active member of the Proctor and Gamble Retirement Group and loved to work in his yard.

He is survived by two sons, Mr. Scott Logan and Mr. Gregg Logan of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Kelly Amick and husband Tim of Greensboro; one brother, A.C. Logan, two grand children, Krystal Amick and Timothy Amick all of Greensboro; and a special friend Ms. Margarete Basner of Greensboro. He was loved by many, and will be missed.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30PM tonight at Forbis and Dick funeral service, Guilford Chapel.

Mrs. Jean Elizabeth Simons

Mrs. Eugenia Elizabeth Simons of Greensboro died Thursday, Septemer 25, 2003 at Wellspring Retirement Center.

Survivors include her son, Roger Edward Simons of Hawaii and daughter, Elecia "Judy" Beebe of Manning, Oregon.

Mr. Brown was born on September 25, 1946 in Guilford County and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.

Survivors include his father, J.L. Brown, Sr. of Greensboro; his mother, Alice Ellis Jones of Greensboro; three children, David Brown of Gibsonville, Denise Edwards of Brown Summit and Michael Brown of Asheboro; six brothers, Roger Brown of Greensboro, Paul Brown of Greensboro, Jerry Brown of Charlotte, Jimmy Brown of Texarkana, Ark., Tony Brown of Charlotte and Robert Brown of Charlotte; two sisters, Cynthia Krawiec of Charlotte and Catherine Walker of Greensboro; three grandchildren, David Brown, Jr., Jessica Brown and Matthew Edwards.

The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 P.M. Saturday, October 4, 2003 at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, N. Elm Street and other times at the home of David Brown, 3332 Huffine Mill Road, Gibsonville.

Mr. Clifford Joseph Spatz, 88, of 5021 Bearberry Point, formerly of Spring Hill, Florida died Thursday September 18, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare Center.

A graveside service will be held for Mr. Spatz at 3:30 PM on Sunday, September 21, 2003 in the Westminster Gardens Chapel Mausoleum with the Reverend Boyd Byerly officiating.

Clifford Spatz was born on June 12, 1915 in New York City to the late Joseph and Rose O’Rourk Spatz. He was a retired accountant with F. H. Vahlsing Inc.

Mr. Spatz is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine Bilous Spatz; son Clifford W. Spatz and his wife, Barbara all of Greensboro; two grandsons Clifford J. Spatz and Bradley W. Spatz both of Wilmington; and a great-granddaughter Brittany L. Spatz of Newport, NC.

The family will receive friends from 3 – 3:30 PM on Sunday afternoon in the mausoleum chapel.
