BRENDA GAIL MILLIGAN OWEN
Ms. Brenda Gail Milligan Owen, 67, of Robbins passed away, Thursday, (01-02-2015) at her home.

A graveside service was held Saturday, (01-03-2015), at 2 p.m. at Prosperity Friends Church in Robbins with Rev. Terry Reynolds officiating.

Ms. Owen was the daughter of the late Arthur M. Milligan and Maezell Cain Milligan. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Jessica Ann Brady; and brother, Arthur Milligan, Sr.

She was a retired Registered Nurse, with a Bachelor’s Degree, and had worked at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, Randolph Hospital in Asheboro, and Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Surviving is a daughter, Cathy Brady of Robbins, brothers, Glenn Milligan, James Milligan, all of Siler City, and one grandson.

The family ask that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Cancer Care Fund Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374, or Prosperity Friends Church Cemetery Fund, 2487 River Road, Robbins, NC 27325

MARY EFFIE BRAFFORD SMITH
Mary Effie Brafford Smith, 77, of Siler City died Monday, (12-22-2014) at her home.

The funeral was held Wednesday, (12-24-2014) at 11 a.m. at Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Bennett.

Mrs. Smith was born in Chatham County, December 17, 1937, the daughter of John and Mary (Brafford) Wicker. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by daughters, Lynda Moore and Rose Hart, both of Siler City; sons, Willie Wayne, James Wesley, Bobby Lynn Smith of Goldston; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, 401 East Third Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

JOYCE ANN HORTON STEWART
Joyce Ann Horton Stewart, 80, of Sanford, died Thursday, (01-01-2015), at Westfield Rehab and Health Center.

The memorial service was held at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Mr. Tony Caudle presiding.

She was born in Harnett County to the late Lyman and Berta Wilburn Horton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Ellis Stewart and brothers, Elwood and Sherrill Horton. She worked as an LPN at Pinelake in Carthage.

She is survived by son, Mickey Stewart of Cameron; daughter, Kimberly Harrison of Sanford; brothers, Bill Horton of Carthage; sisters, Doris Smith of Fuquay Varina, Betty Lou Holder of Spring Lake, Linda Caudle of Greensboro, Brenda Spell of Wade; three grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

BOBBY LEWIS JACKSON
Mr. Bobby Lewis Jackson, 67, of Sanford, died Sunday, (01-04-2015), at his home.

A graveside service was held held Wednesday, (01-07-2015) at 2 p.m. at Shallow Well Cemetery with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating. The family greeted friends at the cemetery following the service.

He was born on April 13, 1947, in Lee County, to the late Burnice Jackson and Mabel Buchanan Stone.

He is survived by a brother, Billy Stone of Sanford; sisters, Nelly Qualls of Georgia, Cathy Brewington of Erwin, Bernice Baker of Wade, Betty Harrison of Sanford, Faye Sturkie, and Frances Carter, both of Lemon Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bobby Lewis Jackson Funeral Fund, c/o Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, 600 West Main Street, Sanford, N.C. 27332.

ERNEST RUSSELL DAVIS, JR.
Mr. Ernest Russell Davis, Jr, 87, of Seagrove, passed away on Monday, (01-05-2015) at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, (01-08-2015) at Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Bouldin officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was the son of the late Ernest R. Davis, Sr. and Lillie Hayes Davis. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nina Davis Pritchard, brother, Jim Reuben Davis. He was retired from Burlington Mills in Asheboro as a loom fixer. Mr. Davis was US Army Veteran of the Korean War and earned two Bronze Battle Stars.

No immediate survivors.

Joyce Brady Chapel of Bennett is honored to serve the Davis family.

MABEL ROANY JOHNSON HANCOCK
Mabel Roany Johnson Hancock, age 92, of Chapel Hill, crossed over the river to the shade of the trees Friday, January 02, 2015.

Mabel was born to the late Syd and Ocie Johnson on February 15, 1922 in Chatham County, N.C.where she would reside until her death. There, she met her first husband, Russell “Lee” McGhee, Sr., and had their son Russell McGhee, Jr. After working several years at The Munition Plant in Carrboro, during World War II, Mabel began her 40-year employment at UNC Hospital. In addition to her love for cooking and needlework, Mabel had a greater love for her family.

She is survived by her son, Russell L. McGhee and wife Leesa of Chapel Hill; a sister, Peggy Jenks of Graham; a sister-in-law, Frances Johnson of Bear Creek, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mabel is preceded in death by three sisters, Katie Wilson, Florence Briggs, Frances Honeycutt and two brothers, Junius Johnson and Ernest Johnson.

A visitation was held from 11 to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Apex, with the funeral service following at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UNC Hospice, 480 Hillsboro Street, Ste 800, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

Hall-Wynne Griffin Chapel is serving the Hancock family.

MARIE BROOKS PHILLIPS
Marie Brooks Phillips, 84, of Siler City, died Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Randolph County on March 17, 1930, the daughter of Cleve and Ada (York) Brooks. She retired from Ramseur Interlock where she had worked for over 30 years as receptionist. Marie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Siler City. She was preceded in death by first husband, Marion Burke and step-son, Steve C. Phillips.

She is survived by her husband, Bob P. Phillips; step-daughter, Jean Griffin (Bo Walters); step-son, Ronnie Phillips (Janice); step-grandchildren, Jeff Griffin (Becky), Jennifer G. Perry (David), Steve Clark Phillips, Jr., Julie P. Albright (Jody), Amy P Ritter (Chance); step-great-grandchildren, Ashley, Heather and Jessica Griffin, Brooke and Carson Perry, Jarod and Rachel Albright, Blake and Bailey Ritter, Haley Phillips; and special cousin, David and Jo Gaye Cain.

The family received friends Monday, January 5, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Tuesday, January 6, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Knoll Cemetery, Ramseur.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, 401 East Third Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

COLLEEN DIXON HOWARD

Colleen Dixon Howard, 88, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at her residence.

Services for Mrs. Howard will be private.

Mrs. Howard was born in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia on January 29, 1926, daughter of Clarence and Ismay Dixon.

Survivors include her daughters, Becky McDougald of Greensboro, Bonnie Griffin and her husband Burnie Griffin of Pittsboro; one granddaughter, two grandsons, one step-grandson; and six great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.

Hall-Wynne Griffin Chapel is serving the Howard family.

JACK CLINTON GASTER, SR.
Jack Clinton Gaster, Sr., 87, of Pittsboro, peacefully went home to his Lord on Thursday, January 1, 2015.

Born February 10, 1927, in Chatham County, NC, to Hubert Edward Gaster, Sr. and Mary Christmas, Mr. Gaster graduated from Bells High School in 1944 and honorably served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He worked for Wrights Machinery/Sperry Flight Systems in Durham, for 35 years. An avid hunter, fisherman, and sportsman, Mr. Gaster most loved coaching his sons, Randy and Jack, attending the football games which Jack coached, hunting with Randy and enjoying his grandsons’ and great-grandchildren’s activities.

Mr. Gaster was preceded in death by his parents; step-parents Althia (Pete) Amos and Ralph Bedient; brothers, Hubert Edward Gaster, Jr., William Lee Gaster; sister, Bettie Catherine (Cathy) Gaster; his beloved first wife of 31 years, Dorothy Johnson Gaster; and son, Jack Clinton Gaster, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Esther Marie Henry Gaster of Pittsboro; son, Randolph (Randy) Thomas Gaster of Clarksville, VA; daughter-in-law, H.K. Gaster of Murphy; grandsons, Guy Brooks Gaster of Garner, Travis Clinton (Sherri) Gaster of Myrtle Beach, SC; great-grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth Gaster, Jacob Brooks Gaster; sister, Margaret (Peggy) Ward Gaster Kozar of Durham; sisters-in-law, Edna Gaster of Henderson, Helen Gaster of Apex; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Hall-Wynne Griffin Chapel, Pittsboro.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2015, at Pittsboro Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Pittsboro Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are being made through Hall-Wynne Griffin Chapel Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

MEADE JULIUS GILMORE, SR.
October 23, 1926 - December 28, 2014

Pittsboro – Mr. Meade Julius Gilmore, Sr., son of Daniel Earl Gilmore and Maude Cook Gilmore (both deceased) and beloved husband of Edith Jewell Crowder Gilmore, passed away on December 28, 2014. Meade and Edith were wed October 23, 1946 and spent 68 years together.

Preceded in death by his son, Meade J. Gilmore, Jr.; brothers, Henry D. Gilmore, Robert L. Gilmore, Harry E. Gilmore (living wife, Nancy); sisters, Margaret G. Lovette, Aretta G. Hall, and Mary Gilmore.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Drusilla G. Register of Massillon, Ohio, Timothy N. Gilmore (Jinx) of Wilson, J. Scott Gilmore of Pittsboro, Kathi D. Gilmore (Sharon) of Raleigh, Randy J. Gilmore (Sonya) of Oxford, and Frankie Gilmore Jones (David) of Pittsboro.

Beloved grandchildren: Melinda Gilmore Cleary, Jennifer Hill McNemar (Daniel), April M. Gilmore, Brian Gilmore, Brad Gilmore (Lara), Todd Gilmore, Megan Gilmore, Tyler Gilmore, Brianna Gilmore, Brent Harkey, Elizabeth Merch, and Ryan Sikes; beloved great-grandchildren: Amanda Cleary, Caleb Cleary, Teagan McNemar, Aidan McNemar, Meade Timothy Gilmore, Scottie Jones, Donnie Goodman, Chandler Adams, Corbett Tyson, and Carsyn Harkey; nieces and nephews and a special niece, Mildred Johnson.

A memorial service was conducted by Rev. Ray Gooch at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church.

American Cremation Service Inc. is serving the family.
