BARBARA ANN WILLIAMS
Barbara Ann Williams, 84, of Greensboro died Tuesday (10-25-2011) at Moses H. Cone Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (10-29-2011) at Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Willard Neal officiating. Burial followed at Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
A native of Chatham County, she was retired from the nursing profession.
There were no immediate survivors.
MARGARET BURNS MATHEWS
Margaret Burns Mathews, 76, of Pittsboro, died Tuesday (11-01-2011).
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (11-05-2011) at Pittsboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Alexander and Rev Ray Gooch officiating. Entombment will follow in the church columbarium.
Born February 22, 1935 in Orangeburg, SC, Margaret was the daughter of Lacy Royal and Wilhelmena Pooser Burns. A graduate of Pittsboro High School, she worked with
NCNB in Chapel Hill, retiring after 34 years. She was active in Pittsboro United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three children, Charlene M. Hinshaw of Poquoson, VA, George Mathews of Midlothian, VA, Charles Mathews of Rice, MN; sister, Ann Knoch of Corolla; and six grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 7 – 9 p.m. Friday, (11-04-2011) at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Pittsboro United Methodist Church Music Fund or the PHS Alumni Association.
Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service and Cremation of Pittsboro.
DURWARD S. EMERY
Durward S. Emery, 86, of 7166 Jordan Road, Ramseur died Monday, October 24, 2011 at Universal Health Care.
Mr. Emery was born May 7, 1925, the son of Lebern and Estie Wilson (Thurman) Emery. He was born in McMinnville, Tennessee and was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Wesleyan Church. Durward was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by sons, James Emery and wife, Mary Ann of Statesville, Junior Emery and wife Helen of Harmony; daughters, Ann E. McDaniel and husband Jeff of Siler City, Barbara Emery of Liberty, Denise Brinkley of Siler City; sons, Gary Emery and wife Teresa of Pleasant Garden, Danny Emery of Liberty; sister, Mildred Culberson and husband Joe of Siler City; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City and other times at the home of Ann and Jeff McDaniel, 2065 Smith Hudson Road, Siler City. Graveside services were held Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Chatham Memorial Park, 13260 Hwy 64 West, Siler City with Rev. Noah Albarez and Rev. Tim Ritter officiating.

STEPHEN PAUL GAINES
Stephen Paul Gaines, 18, of 1347 Vander Oldham Road, Bear Creek died Wednesday, October 26, 2011.
Stephen was born in Lee County on August 25, 1993, the son of Denise Jordan Gaines and Archie Paul Gaines. He attended Chatham Central High School and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He loved hunting with his dogs and going fishing. Stephen was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Marjorie Gaines. He was employed with Mountain Stone Masonary.
The family received friends Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 396 NC Hwy 42, Goldston and other times at the home of his sister, Jennifer and Jeremy Stewart, 3323 Green Valley Drive, Sanford, NC 27330. The service will follow in the church at 12:30 with Rev. Val Chadwick, Rev. David Thomas and Rev. Mike Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, Denise Jordan Gaines of Bear Creek; his father, Archie Paul Gaines of Kernersville; two sisters, Jennifer G. and Jeremy Stewart of Sanford and nephew, Clay, Terry Gaines of Kernersville; maternal grandparents, Dennis and Doris B. Jordan of Bear Creek; girlfriend, Kristen O'Neal of Goldston; several aunts, uncles and a host of friends.
Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church in memory of Stephen P. Gaines.

EMILY SHEA BARE
Emily Shea Bare, 37, of 9582 Edgerton Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Roper Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina.
Ms. Bare was born in Alamance County on August 2, 1974 to James "Jimmy" Bare and Brenda Headen Bare. She was a 1993 graduate of Jordan Matthews High School and attended Central Carolina Community College for three years. Emily was a sales associate with Marshall's Department Store in Myrtle Beach. She loved her job, singing karaoke, and the beach. She also enjoyed spending time with her nieces, nephew, and her cats.
She is survived by her father Jimmy Bare and wife, Ann of Siler City; mother, Brenda Headen Bare and her fiance, Douglas F. Baden of Myrtle Beach, SC; one brother, Jonathan M. Bare and wife, Kris of Siler City; nieces, Hallie and Lizzie Mae Bare; nephew, Emerson Bare; step-sister, Shelli Clark of Wake Forest; and step-brother, Rodney Capps of Emerald Isle.

FAY DEAN WILLIAMSON WOMBLE
Fay Dean Williamson Womble, 83, of Siler City died Monday, October 31, 2011 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Fay Dean was born in Alamance County on October 20, 1928, the daughter of Lendo F. and Adele (Nance) Williamson. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jake, Simon and Charles.
Fay Dean is survived by her husband of 59 years, Lynton Womble; a brother, Jerry Williamson (Elaine) of Haw River and several nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Alexander Wilson High School and Elon College and had a very successful career as a secretary for the Employment Security Commission with the State of North Carolina for 39 years. An active member of Loves Creek Baptist Church for 59 years, she served as a primary children's Sunday School teacher, worked in the nursery, participated on the Benevolence committee and was serving as church treasurer at the time of her death.
Fay Dean was most proud of her long and happy marriage to Lynton. She often said she loved him from the first time that she saw him. She was a very generous, supportive and loving aunt to her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Family was very important to her. Fay Dean loved to laugh, loved the beach, enjoyed sewing, puzzles and playing Rook with friends.
The family received friends Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Thursday, November, 3, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church, 1745 East 11th Street, Siler City with Rev. Bob Boyd, Rev. J. R. Bouldin and Rev. Roy Helms officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

GARY GRANT ALLEN
Gary Grant Allen, 57, passed away early Monday morning, October 31, 2011, at Duke Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Gary bravely fought a heroic two-year battle with cancer.
Born June 29, 1954, he was the son of the late William Daniel Allen and the late Edythe Carowan Allen. He was raised on a farm in Pantego with his three brothers. Gary graduated from Pantego High School in 1972. He attended Campbell College, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. It was at Campbell College that he met and fell in love with his future wife, Karen. They married August 14, 1977 and had three sons.
Gary worked for 25 years in the beverage distribution industry. After retiring, he went back to school to Central Carolina Community College and completed an Associate’s Degree in Biofuels Technology. He also tutored in the math lab at CCCC. Teaching students finally fulfilled a lifelong passion.
Friends and family will always remember Gary for his immense strength, his boundless optimism, his unconditional love, and his pride for his family members. Gary was a man with an infectious smile and friendly disposition who never met a stranger. He was a passionate fan of sports, including N.C. State games, the New York Yankees, and especially his own children’s teams. He loved to travel and spend leisure time with his family and friends. Gary cherished the memories and laughter he shared.
Gary will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Karen Allen; his son, Grant Allen and his daughter-in-law, Catherine Allen of Raleigh; his son, Darren Allen of Asheboro; and his son, Craig Allen of Jersey City, New Jersey. Gary is also survived by his brother Billy Allen and sister-in-law, Barbara Allen of Pantego; his brother Ben Allen and sister-in-law, Peggy Allen of Newport News, Virginia; and his brother Gregory Allen, and sister-in-law Pam Allen, of Washington. Gary is also survived by five nieces, one nephew, five great nephews and one great niece.
The family received friends Wednesday, November 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hall Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.
The worship service will be held Thursday, November 3, at 1 p.m. at Pittsboro Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Troy Lesher-Thomas and Pastor Terry Dorsey presiding. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Park cemetery in Siler City.

GEORGE MASON, JR.
Mr. George Mason, Jr., 71, of Sanford died Tuesday, (10-18-2011) at First Health of the Carolinas in Moore County.
Funeral services were held Friday, (10-21-2011) at 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Burns and Rev. Ray Gooch presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mason was born in Moore County, May 27, 1940 to the late George Mason and Beulah Scott Armstrong. He was also preceded in death by his step-father Jack Armstrong and brother Joseph Michael Mason. George was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Columbus Masonic Lodge # 102 in Pittsboro. He was a deputy with the Chatham County Sheriff Department and was a retired captain.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Gunter Mason; sons, Joseph Scott Mason of Sanford, Richard Dale Mason of Chapel Hill; half-sister, Teresa Brengle of West End; and four grandchildren.
JOHN EDWIN ANGLE
John Edwin Angle, 80 died Monday, (10-17-2011) at his home in Pittsboro.
Mr. Angle was born in Springfield, Il June 19, 1931, He served in the U.S. Army and later became a lawyer.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Nichols and daughters, Jennie Cloud and Susan Ann Angle.
Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service in Pittsboro.
ALLENE GILMORE GUNTER SNOW
Allene Gilmore Gunter Snow, 84, of Siler City died Friday, (10-21-2011).
Funeral services will be Sunday, (10-30-2011) at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Apostolic Faith with Pastor Mike Crosby and Rev. J. V. Livingston officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Snow was born November 17, 1926, the daughter of the late Frank Lee and Berchie (Walters) Gilmore. She was a native of Chatham County, and was retired from Dixie Furniture in Asheboro. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Apostolic Faith and was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Snow and a brother, Howard Gilmore.
She is survived by a daughter, Leanne Robinson of Siler City; son, Howard Gunter of Siler City; sister, Frankie Flippin of Rockingham; step-daughter, Faye Culberson of Siler City; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday, (10-29-2011) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Church Of Jesus Apostolic Faith, and other times at the home of her granddaughter, Misty Batten.
