ERNESTINE MOORE KISER

Ernestine Moore Kiser, 92, of 1068 Lee Emerson Road., Bear Creek died Sunday, March 20, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Kiser was born December 25, 1918, the daughter of Ernest and Lola (Emerson) Moore. She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a Sunbeam leader for the children's classes. She enjoyed canning, sewing and working in her flower gardens. Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, Eulon Kiser and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Andrews.

She is survived by two daughters, Kay K. Andrews of Bear Creek, Judy K. Ferree of Bennett; grandchildren, Tammy Overman and husband, Ralph, Allison Allen and husband, Earle, Bradley Andrews and wife, Amy; great-grandchildren, Peyton Moody, Corbin and Landry Allen, Kelsey and Grant Andrews; and step-great-grandchild, Brittany Overman.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City and other times at the family home.

The funeral will be Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Marc Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

EDWARD GLENN “EDDIE” CLARK

Edward Glenn “Eddie” Clark, 53, of US Hwy. 64 East, Pittsboro, joined his Lord and his mother, on Saturday, March 19, 2011 following his death at UNC Hospitals.

Eddie was born in Wake County on October 16, 1957, the son of Billy Goodman Clark and Shirley Babb Clark. He was a loving father, son, brother, brother-in-law and employer. Eddie was the owner of Clark Construction, Inc. and was a “second dad” to his employees. He taught carpentry to several young men over the years. Eddie was a talented musician that enjoyed playing the drums. He loved to cook, and was known for his chicken wings and collard greens. He attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his father, Billy Clark; sons, Jeremy and Patrick Clark of Pittsboro; daughter, Kelli Clark of Morrisville; step-daughters, Melissa Zerbs of Apex and Tari McCracken of Nebraska; brother, BC “Billy” Clark of Pittsboro; sisters, Vicki Winstead and husband Mark of Cary, Melody McCall and husband Lynn of Holden Beach; three nephews; his canine son, Rusty; and his best friend and employee of 12 years, Arthur Perez. Eddie’s mother, Shirley Babb Clark, preceded him in death on December 22, 2010.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Gooch presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro, and at other times, at the home of his father, Billy Clark.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Edward “Eddie” Clark Memorial Fund, c/o Vicki Winstead, 101 Arvo Lane, Cary, NC 27513.

Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service and Cremation, Pittsboro, NC.

HURLEY JUNIOR GRAY

Hurley Junior Gray, 78, of Siler City died Wednesday, (03-09-2011) at Sunbridge Care of Siler City.

Funeral services were held Monday, (03-14-2011) at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill United Church of Christ with Rev. Timothy Blackwell officiating.

Mr. Gray was a native of Chatham County, a member of Pine Hill United Church of Christ, and retired as a truck driver for C.R. Perry.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Gray; sons, Donald O. Gray, Ronnie Junior Gray, both of Siler City; daughters, Virginia Gray Bolz of Siler City, Linda B. Clark of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Virginia Gray White of Snow Camp and Daisy G. Alston of Siler City; and one grandchild.

MERRILL ANTONIE “TONIE” HAWK

Merrill Antonie (Tonie) Hawk, 75, of 1668 Piney Grove Church Road, Siler City, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Mrs. Hawk was born October 6, 1935, the daughter of Merrill Willard (Sam) and Eula Mae (Lewis) Cook. A native of Alamance County and a homemaker, she was a member of Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, the Senior Sunday school class, and a devout Christian who loved her church. Mrs. Hawk enjoyed going shopping, doing crafts, facebook and going to the beach. She was the best mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. Merrill was preceded in death by her parents, Merrill Willard (Sam) and Eula Mae Lewis Cook, her husband, William F. (Bill, Shorty) Hawk, Jr., and a sister, Sybil Cook Hancock.

Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Hawk Watson and husband Danny of Thomasville, Nikki Hawk Nutter and husband John of Lexington; two sons, Rickey Lee Hawk and wife Sandy of Mebane, Jeffrey Floyd Hawk and special friend, Abigail Stumpf of Siler City; and six grandchildren.

The family received friends Thursday, March 9, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City and other times at the family home.

The funeral was held Friday, March 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, 175 Moon's Chapel Road, Siler City, with Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Moon's Chapel Baptist Church Land Fund, 175 Moon's Chapel Road, Siler City, NC 27344.

PATRICIA R. MEADOWS

Patricia Ramsey “Pat” Meadows, age 77, of 1106 Parkwood Drive, Siler City died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Chatham Hospital, Inc. in Siler City.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 314 N. 2nd Avenue, Siler City with Rev. Tony Capehart and Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.

Mrs. Meadows was a native of Rowan County and retired as Executive Director of the Siler City Chamber of Commerce. Pat was a member of First Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband George F. Meadows, parents, Reginald Edgar and Nancy Belle Kesler Ramsey, sisters, Betty Ramsey Ferguson, Nancy Kesler Ramsey, Helen Ramsey Haggart, Bonnie Ramsey Curlee, and brothers, Reginald Edgar Ramsey II and James Warren Ramsey.

She is survived by her son, George F. "Chip" Meadows, Jr. and his wife, Anna B. Meadows of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Deborah M. Northington and her husband, Stephen Northington of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Matthew I. Meadows, Weston S. Northington, and Kristina A. Northington; brothers, Vernon Jerome Ramsey of Jacksonville, Jack Alden Ramsey of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Friday, March 11, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

JIMMY RUSSELL WICKER

Mr. Jimmy Russell Wicker, 68, of Lexington passed away Wednesday March 9, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center.

funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church with Chaplain Sheree Jones officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Wicker was born December 6, 1942 in Chatham County to Cevil Russell Wicker and Dorothy Lee Lemons Wicker. He served in the United States Army and retired from the US Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Carlton Wicker of the home; his mother, Dorothy Lemons Wicker of Siler City; daughter, Nicole Greene (Tony) of Ramseur; sister, Janice W. Oldham (Russell) of Siler City; grandchildren, Ashton Brooke Greene and Joshua Chase Greene.

“J.D.” JAMES DILLARD STOVALL, SR.

James Dillard Stovall, Sr., 84, of 516 West Fourth Street, Siler City died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Stovall was born November 16, 1926 in Surry County, the son of Sandy J and Sarah Nina (Frye) Stovall. He was a self-employed carpenter. J. D. was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger Dale Stovall; brother, Henry Stovall; and sisters, Vernelle Councilman and JoAnn Cook.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mae (Hicks) Stovall; three daughters, Klara Cody of Gastonia, Debi McKenzie of Surf Side, SC, Sandra Cook of Siler City; two sons, James Dillard Stovall, Jr. of Pinehurst, Jay Brent Stovall of Siler City; two sisters, Hazel McMath of Goldston, Sarah Daughtry of Pinehurst; three brothers, Lewis Stovall of Burlington, Bobby Stovall of Liberty, William “Bud" Stovall of Siler City; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The graveside service will be Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City with Bishop William Goins and Rev. Tim McKenzie officiating.

WILLIAM A. “BILL” WHITE

Mr. William A. “Bill” White, 80, of Siler City died Tuesday (03-01-2011) at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

Graveside funeral services and burial was held at Brush Creek Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Friday (03-04-2011) with Rev. Tim Strider officiating.

Mr. White was a Randolph County native, retired from Hill Furniture in Ramseur and a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Shipwash White of Siler City; sister, Polly Marley of Siler City; step-daughters, Judy and Karen.

SUE PARTIN THOMAS

Sue Partin Thomas, 80, of Pittsboro, passed away at Care View Rest Home in Snow Camp, Sunday, (02-27-2011).

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Bob Wachs at 3 p.m., Saturday, (03-05-2011) at Hanks Chapel Christian Church in Pittsboro, with interment following in the church cemetery.

Born in Orange County, May 29, 1930, Sue was raised in Carrboro, and was a member Hanks Chapel Christian Church.. Sue was the daughter of the late Vinnie Frances Oakley Partin and William Clifton Partin. A graduate of Chapel Hill High School, she attended Croft Business School in Durham, worked for Carrboro Woolen Mill, White Oaks Department Store, UNC Hospitals, and after retirement, at Benchmark. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim Thomas, brother, Wilbur Partin and sister, Rachel O’Daniel.

She is survived by a daughter, Dana Thomas Barnes of Cary; brother, Emmett Partin of Burlington; sisters, Jean O’Daniel of Chapel Hill, Jackie Wilson of Boulder, CO, Rebecca Harris of Pittsboro; and two granddaughters.

MARJORIE MATTHEWS WILLIAMS

Mrs. Marjorie Matthews Williams, 91, of Pittsboro, died Monday, (02-28-2011) at Twin Rivers Independent Living in Pittsboro.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ray Gooch and Dr. Jan N. Hill at 11 a.m. Friday, (03-04-2011) from Pittsboro United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Rocky Mount, Mrs. Williams was born August 27, 1919, the daughter of Troy and Lillian Seagroves Matthews. She graduated from Goldston High School and Peace College. She became secretary and treasurer of LC Williams Oil Company, where she worked until her retirement. She was a member of Pittsboro United Methodist Church, the Backyard Garden Club and the Bridge Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon Cecil Williams, Sr.; daughter, Brenda Sue Williams McDonald; and sister, Ruth Gaines.

Survivors include her son Leon of Pittsboro; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

BILL JUNIOR TAYLOR

Mr. Bill Junior Taylor, 66, of Sanford died Wednesday (03-02-2011) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held Saturday (03-05-2011) at 1 p.m. at Taylor’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Eugene Staton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Taylor was a graduate of Horton High School, and Central Carolina Community College with a degree in automotive mechanics.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Garrett Taylor; children, James Evan Taylor, Billie Teresa Alston; mother, Beatrice G. Taylor; sisters, Ernestine T. McIver, Annie T. McCrimmon, both of Sanford, Doretha T. Headen of Greensboro; and six grandchildren.

GRACIE LYNN AVERY

Mrs. Gracie Lynn Avery, 99, of Chapel Hill, died Monday, (02-28-2011) at Duke Hospital in Durham.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday (03-04-2011) at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Kenneth M. Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A member of Mitchell Chapel Church, she had a Grace L. Avery African American Scholarship Fund for African-American Students.

Surviving is a sister, Evelyn Lynn Faulk of Pittsboro.
