HERMAN M.T. GALLIMORE

Herrman Mack Teague Gallimore, 80, of Staley, died Sunday (05-17-09) in the home of his daughter.

Funeral services, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at West Asheboro Church of God with Rev. Matthew Gunter, officiating. Burial followed in Staley Cemetery.

Mr. Gallimore was retired from Ramtex as a loom fixer and drove a Transfer Truck for various companies. He attended West Asheboro Church of God. He served in the United States Army and was part of Company C 13th Engineer Battalion, serving in the Pacific Theatre during the latter part of World War II. He also did a tour in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Amy Gallimore; his wife, Maxie Shortridge, and grandson, Joey Jaquish.

Survivors include daughters, Cheria Gallimore of Staley, Jeanette Teague, Janice G. Peck, Jessie Martin, all of Siler City; son, Jeff Gallimore, of Durham; brother, Harlin Gallimore, of Asheboro; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grand children.

Serving as pallbearers were nephews, H. R. Gallimore, Kenneth Gallimore, Danny Gallimore, Franklin Smith, Tony Stiltner, and grandson, Nicholas Jordan.

DR. CHARLES “CHUCK” HAUSER

Dr. Charles Frank (Chuck) Hauser, 74, died at his home on Sunday (02-10-09).

Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, (05-23-09) at Brown’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Ray Gooch presiding. Interment of his cremated remains will be in the church memorial garden.

JIM W. STONE, JR.

Jim W. Stone Jr., age 51, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 into the care of his Savior.

A memorial service was held at Stoney Creek FWB Church in Goldsboro at 4:00 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2009.

A native of Siler City, who made Goldsboro his home for over 25 years, he is survived by his wife, Jan; his sons, Justin and Jared; and his granddaughter, Alayna; his parents, Jim and Pat Stone; his sister, Pattie Turner, her husband, Steve, and their daughters, Hannah, Leah, and Micah.

Jimmy was known for his quick wit and will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his zest for life.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be sent to the Foundation of Hope in memory of Jim Stone, 9401 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27617.

JOHN WILLIAM JUSTICE, JR.

John William Justice, Jr. passed away on Thursday, May 14th, 2009 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina after 6 1/2 years residence at Penick Village in Southern Pines.

He was born on November 6, 1923 in Walterboro, South Carolina to John W. Justice and Ellen Duvall Justice and raised in Cheraw, South Carolina. He graduated from Cheraw High School and attended UCLA until he served in the United States Air Force stationed in Panama. He married Anne Farish Watlington on December 8, 1951 and they raised their two children, Anne Farish Justice and John William Justice, III, in Camden and Cheraw while he was employed at Becker Sand and Gravel Company. Johnny and Farish moved to Siler City, North Carolina in 1976 where he ran Southern Stone. In 1984, he and his son purchased the company and renamed it Southern Aggregates.

Johnny was very active throughout his life in numerous church, professional, and community organizations. When he was young, and during his married years in Cheraw, he was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church. He was a vestry member of Grace Episcopal Church when they lived in Camden, and in Siler City, he was a lay reader and on the building committee for the new First United Methodist Church. He returned to his Episcopal roots when he and Farish retired to Penick Village and served as an usher for Sunday services.

He was well-respected on a national level in his industry. As a founding member of the American Pre-cast Association, he chaired many committees including convention and membership. He was very involved in the National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association and made many lifelong friends throughout the country.

Perhaps his best-loved community service was through membership in Rotary International. He received a distinguished service citation, was a Paul Harris Fellow, served as District Governor from 1990-1991 and delighted in delivering the invocation most Mondays, whether requested to or not.

His hobbies included his love of the outdoors with time spent hunting, fishing, and enjoying all water-related activities at his beloved Pawley's Island, South Carolina with his friends Edward Royall and George Pitt Lachicotte (deceased). As the unofficial ambassador of all the places he lived in and loved, he distributed hundreds of Pawley's Island rope hammocks around the country. In his later years he turned his love of cooking into creating the perfect popcorn at Penick.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Farish Watlington Justice, he is survived by his eldest daughter, Elizabeth Carson, by a previous marriage. He is also survived by his daughter, Anne Farish Justice, his son, John William Justice, III and his wife, Donna; five grandchildren, Bill, Betsy and Nancy Hill John William Justice, IV and Samford Watlington Justice; three great-grandchildren and ten nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Edith Justice Nock and Sarah Justice Mann.

There will be a family graveside service at Old St. David's Episcopal Church, Cheraw, and a celebration of his life at the Siler City Country Club at a later date.

MARY ELIZABETH KENNEDY PETTY SMITH

Mary Elizabeth Kennedy Petty Smith, 85, of Siler City died Monday, May 18, 2009 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation of Siler City.

Mrs. Smith was born October 4, 1923 the daughter of Neill A. and Elizabeth White Kennedy.

Mrs. Smith was a native of Chatham County, a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church, the Women's # 3 Sunday School Class and the Exie Stone Circle. She was retired from Chatham Mills in Pittsboro and had worked at Sir Pizza in Siler City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Elizabeth White Kennedy.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Fields and husband, P D of Siler City, Carolyn Phillips and husband, Roland of Bear Creek, Sharon Zawaduk and husband, Lee of Cape Cod, MA; one son, Lacy B. Petty and wife, Gail of Siler City; step-sons, Recial Smith and wife, Mary of Durham, Anthony Smith and wife, Polly of Pittsboro; brother-in-law, L. D. Bullis of Siler City; eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; special granddaughter, Stephaine Neal Meads and husband, Eric; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Katherine Groce.

The family received friends Tuesday, May 19, 2009 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church, 1745 East 11th Street, Siler City, with Rev. Bob Boyd and Rev. Brian Wellborn officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, W. Chatham Relay for Life, C/O Betty Terry, 519 South Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

RISTIN COOKS

Ristin Cooks, 41, of Chatham County died Sunday (05-17-09) at her home.

She was buried on her farm on Monday. A celebration of Ristin’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday (05-23-09) at Castle Rock Gardens, followed by a potluck.

Ristin was born in Fayetteville on April 9, 1968, and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A fixture at the Carrboro Farmers Market, Ristin was a farmer, a writer, a carpenter, a dear friend, and an inspiration to many.

Survivors include Patrick Walsh, Susan Cooks, James Cooks, Michael Cooks, and others, too numerous to name here.

Donations should be made to Heifer International.

JEAN TEAGUE THOMAS

Jean Thomas, 78, of Snow Camp died Friday, (05-08-09) at her home.

Funeral services were held Monday, (05-11-09) at 4 p.m. at South Fork Friends Meeting with Rev Ray Gooch and Pastor Roger Ewing officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Thomas was the daughter of Everette T. and Roma Braxton Teague, a native of Chatham County and retired dental assistant for Dr. Mott P. Blair, DDS. She was a member of South Fork Friends Church, and was preceded in death by her husbands, Otis Boyd Foust, Alford Gordon Thomas and a grandson, Kenneth Wayne Poe, Jr.

Survivors include daughters, Janice F. Ward, Donna F. Wilson, Patti F. Murray, all of Snow Camp, Denise F. Poe of Siler City, Tammy F. Scherer of Eden; brother, Jake Teague of Snow Camp; step-daughters, Kay Straughn, Marcia King, Lynda Smith, all of Pittsboro; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.

PERRY LINNE

Mr. Perry Harlan Linne, 82, died Friday (05-08-09) at his home in Fearrington Village, Pittsboro.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday, (05-15-09) at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, Il.

Mr. Linne was born March 15, 1927 in Danville, Illinois, the son of Fank and Marie M. Linne. He retired after 28 years of service as a railway machinist, then taught blueprint math, machine shop and metric math for another 18 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hawkins Linne; daughter, Michele L. Taylor of Pittsboro; brother, Robert; sisters, Ruth, Julia Ann, Belle, and Louise; and three grandsons. Two brothers, John and Frank, preceded him in death.

Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne, Griffin Chapel, of Pittsboro.

COLLEEN THRIFT PETTY

Mrs. Colleen Thrift Petty, 87, Pittsboro, died (05-08-09) at The Laurels of Chatham.

funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Petty was born in Chatham County, the daughter of John W. Thrift and Edith Dean Thrift. She was a graduate of Pittsboro School, retired from the textile industry and a member of Hanks

Chapel United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Worrell of Southern Pines; a son, Wesley “Butch” Petty of Sanford; sister, Mrs. Wilfred Lindley of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward W. Petty, and son, Edward M. Petty.

NEIL MARTIN

Neil Martin, 59, of Rockingham, died Wednesday (05-06-09) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held Saturday (05-09-09) at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church in Ellerbe with Rev. kevin Thompson and Rev. Charles Larrimore officiating. Burial followed in the family cemetery.

Mr. Martin was a native of Richmond County and the son of Natalie J. Martin and the late Harold Martin. He was employed at Sandhurst Plant as a fixer in the knitting department and a farmer. He also had been employed with the NC Department of Forestry Resources and served in the US Army. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Glenn Eaves.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Martin of the home; mother, Natalie J. Martin of Rockingham; children, Flori Frye, Shannon Haywood, Brian Eaves, all of Rockingham, Bobbie Martin of the home; sisters, Trudy Rayfield of Raleigh, Susie Parker of Rockingham; brother, Harold Lee Martin of Rockingham; and five grandchildren.

ROBERT FARRAR

Robert Farrar of Pittsboro died Thursday (05-07-09) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday (05-10-09) at St. Matthews AME Zion Church with Rev. Ronnie L. Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Farrar was a graduate of Horton High School. He served in the US Army, was a member of Staunton Memorial CME Church, and retired from IBM Research Triangle Park.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Farrar of the home; children, Michael Farrar of Tennessee, Maurice Farrar of Pittsboro, Elder of Durham; brothers, Willie Earl Lacy Rudolph, both of Pittsboro; sister, Josephine March of Pittsboro; and three grandchildren.

PAUL GYLES BRAXTON

Summerfield – Paul Gyles Braxton, 74, died on Friday, May 8, 2009 at his residence.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Kallam Grove Christian Church, with Rev. Charles Vaughan officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with military graveside rites.

Paul was a native of Chatham County, and was born to the late Paul and Beulah Johnson Braxton. He graduated from NC State University with a degree in Textile Management. After completing the ROTC program there, he served active duty with the US Army, entering as a 2nd Lieutenant and finishing his army career as a captain. Later he served many years in the National Guard. He retired from Cone Mills Corporation as an executive vice president with over thirty years of service. Paul was an avid sportsman, especially hunting and fishing. He also played on the NC State baseball team. He supported wildlife conservation efforts and was very active and supportive of the Boy Scouts. Paul’s priority in life was his family and his children and grandchildren all claim him as their hero.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Burke Braxton of the home; his sons, Paul E. Braxton of Greensboro, Kenneth G. Braxton and wife, Kelly of Charlotte, and Philip E. Braxton and wife, Sheri of Greensboro; his grandchildren, Andrew and Ashley Braxton of Greensboro, Michael, Tyler and Lindsey Braxton of Charlotte and Catherine and Kirsten Braxton of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Sara Stultz of Eden; brother-in-law, Tommie Burke and wife, Ada Jo of Emerald Isle; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, May 10, from 7-9 p.m. and other times at his residence.

Memorials may be made to Kallam Grove Christian Church Building Fund, 1390 Gold Hill Road, Madison, NC 27025; or The American Cancer Society, 4A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407.
