Bob lived most of his adult life on Mill Road in Oaks, PA and was a life-long member of Green Tree Church of the Brethren. He served in the US Army, stationed in Korea. He was a production manager for the former Synthane Corporation in Oaks before transferring to the plant in Illinois. He retired from Synthane and went into business for himself with Circle Fabrications, where he was involved in specialized washers for the space shuttle. Following retirement from Circle Fabrications, he moved to Leesburg, Florida for 15 years before returning to Illinois in 2007. He loved his Lord, golf, boating, fishing, and playing cards. He also loved to dance and swing his daughters around. He was a joy, but tough. No slack with Dad, chores first, then play. There was always time to play.

PHILLIP EUGENE BANET

Phillip Eugene Banet, 69, of Pittsboro, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Cape Fear Valley Memorial Hospital in Fayetteville of a heart attack and stroke.

Philip was an Army veteran who served in Korea and did two tours of duty in Viet Nam.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; two step-daughters, Patricia Moore and Deborah Hanson, Deborah's husband Mike, their sons Chris and John. From a previously deceased wife, there were two sons, Charles and Perry, four grandchildren, Rene, Taylor, George and Charles, Jr., four step-daughters with five step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Phillip's funeral and burial, with full military honors, was at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake on Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Officiating at the ceremony were his pastors, Reverend Tripp Harmon of Pittsboro Baptist Church and Reverend Jerry Ward of the Church of the Nazarene, where Phillip and Audrey were married.

Phillip became a Christian late in life, but spent all his life doing what Christians do. He was always loving, helping, giving, and never counting the cost. He always found something good to say about everyone, no matter who they were or what they did. He often wondered what his purpose in life was. We found out at the hospital and funeral when so many people came by to tell us what a great influence he had been in their life. They told how he had let them live in his home until they got back on their feet, how he had given them money, found them jobs, carried them back and forth to work, how he had put their teen back on the right path. So many young people told us he was no kin but they called him granddad or papa because he had been one to them. The stories went on and on. He is missed by many. His legacy is Blessed Assurance.

EVELYN PEELE EDWARDS

Mrs. Evelyn Peele Edwards, 81, formerly of Lewiston-Woodville, NC, died peacefully in her home at the Haven in Highland Creek, Charlotte, NC, on March 1, 2009.

Evelyn was born in Lewiston on June 8, 1927, to the late John and Layla McClenny Peele. She attended Meredith College in Raleigh, later graduated from East Carolina Teachers College, and then began a lengthy and rewarding teaching career. Mrs. Edwards taught for 28+ years in Bertie County, touching the lives of hundreds of children in this community. Every child that had her as a teacher, including her two sons and a daughter, was the better for it. Not only were academic lessons taught in her classroom, but also lessons about compassion, integrity, and responsibility. After retirement, she spent much of her time involved in her favorite pastimes of gardening, antiquing, and cooking delightful meals and goodies for her family.

Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother, loving her husband, children, and grandchildren intensely, and always endeavored to put her family ahead of herself. As her mental faculties diminished, her warm, encouraging, sweet spirit increased. How wonderful to know that God blessed her with His joy in spite of her illness. Even to her last breath, Evelyn gave love and encouragement to those around her.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Dot) Peele, of Blue Bell, PA; three children, Richard Edwards and wife, Andrea, of Raleigh, Bob Edwards and wife, Laney, of Davidson, Belinda E. Sellers and husband, Art, of Pittsboro, NC; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (C.H.), to whom she was married for 56 years, and her younger sister, Shirley Peele Patrick.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 5, at 2 p.m. in Hoggard Memorial Cemetery, Lewiston-Woodville, led by Rev. Bill Grisham of First Baptist Church, Rocky Mount. Following the service, family and friends will gather in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church, Lewiston.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to your charity of choice.

Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is assisting the Edwards family.
