MYRA BUCKNER BRADY

Myra Beryl Buckner Brady, age 90, of 1822 Jessie Bridges Road, Siler City formerly of Greensboro died Monday, January 5, 2009 at her residence.

Myra was a dedicated and loving daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She had a special love for her family.

Myra was born July 16, 1918 in Chatham County, the daughter of the late Randolph and Mae Buckner. She retired from Western Electric (Greensboro) in 1976 after 25 years of service.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Brady (Bill), Raymond Woodburn; two brothers, Winfred Buckner and Lynn Buckner and a sister, Betty Lee Buckner.

She is survived by three sons, Ray Woodburn and wife Sherry of Greensboro, NC, James Brady and wife, Debbie of Greensboro, NC, Michael Brady of Siler City, NC; one daughter, Karen Purcell and husband, Don of Raleigh, NC; two sisters: Doris Buckner and Peggy Kirby, sister-in-law, Lorane Buckner all of Siler City, NC; thirteen grandchildren, Leslie (Martin), Jeff, Amy (Dean), Christy (Robert), Sharon (Wendell), Derrick (Kat), Wendy (Brett), Valerie, Matthew (Katie), Logan, Spencer, Donald (Ericka), Andrew (Kelly) and seven great-grandchildren, Adam, Scott, Ava, Nathaneal, Kaylee, Loren and Austin. She is also survived by an aunt, Veola Griffin of Falls Church, VA, step-children, Billy Brady (Vicky), Becky Siler (Larry) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday January 8, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Friday, January 9 2009 at 11 a.m. at Rocky River Baptist Church, 4436 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City, NC with Rev. Greg W. Burriss officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

CHRISTINE CLARK

Our beloved one entered her Lord's kingdom early on the morning of December 31, 2008 after a courageous battle of declining health.

She is survived by her loving daughter Valinda and devoted son-in-law Shannon Clark; her beloved and cherished granddaughter, Christie Clark Cook and husband James; and the joy of her life her "Great"- grandson, Christian Cook all of Pittsboro.

She was employed by Chatham Mills for many years and retired from N.C. Memorial Hospital. Until declining health, she worked many happy days at Robyn's Nest in Pittsboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolphus B. Clark; parents Julian and Lina McIver; brothers Robert and Gurney McIver; and a sister, Lillie Roberson.

A celebration of her life was held at Hanks Chapel Christian Church on Saturday, January 3, where she was a lifelong member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family would like to thank UNC Hospice, who walked this journey with us. Contributions may be made in her name.

WALTER JACK FOUSHEE

Mr. Walter Jack Foushee, 87, of Pittsboro, died Tuesday (12-23-2008) at the Laurels of Chatham.

A native of Chatham County, Jack was the son of William Henry and Pearl Blanche Harris Foushee. He served in the 495th Bomber Squadron in World War II, and was a member of the Pittsboro VFW. He owned and operated Jack Foushee Logging for 30 years. Jack was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Odessa Watkins Foushee; daughters, Jackie Foushee Williams, Connie Foushee Lambeth, both of Pittsboro; son, Tommy Wayne Foushee of Sanford; step-daughters, Jana Hall of Apex, Teresa Fox of Pittsboro; sister, Barbara J. Koonce of Vass; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday (12-27-2008) at Browns Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Interment followed in Meroney’s United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Meroney’s United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 10568 NC Highway 902, Bear Creek NC 27207.

CECIL EDWARD KIDD

Cecil Edward Kidd, 71, of Siler City died Sunday (12-28-2008) at his home.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (12-31-2008) at Deep River Baptist Church Cemetery in Coleridge with Rev. Billy Joe Brady officiating.

Mr. Kidd was a native of Randolph County and retired from Collins and Aikman of Siler City.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia F. Kidd of the home; six children, two step—children, five sisters, two brothers, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1414 East Eleventh Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

RUTH AUGUSTA TUREK

Ruth Augusta Turek, 94, of Pittsboro, died Tuesday (12-23-2008).

Graveside committal services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (12-30-2008) at Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

Mrs. Turek was a native of Rib Lake, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles Albert and Martha Jaffke Turek. She was a graduate of Lyons Township High School and was retired from Wheaton College, where she worked for 31 years, retiring as personal director. She was in the fellowship of the Pittsboro Bible Assembly.

There are no immediate survivors.

MELVIN “BOX” FIELDS

Melvin “Box” Fields, 65, of Siler City died Wednesday (12-24-2008) at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday (12-28-2008) at Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Fields, the son of Joe and Nannie Bell (Gaines) Fields, was a native of Chatham County and a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church. He served Bonlee Elementary School as a volunteer coach for 32 years, where he was honored by the dedication of the Melvin Fields Athletic Field. He was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Fields.

Survivors include daughters, Cindy G. Fields, Wendy F. Albright, both of Siler City; sons, Jay Fields, Rodney Fields, both of Siler City; sister, Fern F. Beavers, JoAnn F. Scott, both of Bear Creek; and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Duke Children’s Hospital, Box 2998, Durham, NC 27701.

RAYMOND HARRIS GREENLAW, JR.

On Sunday, December 21, 2008, all of God’s angels gathered to sing a heavenly chorus of praise as another voice had joined them. God’s good and faithful soldier, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Raymond Harris Greenlaw, Jr. 88, of Pittsboro, went home. Ray was born November 14, 1920 in Melrose, Mass, the son of Raymond Greenlaw, Sr. and Marion MacDonald Greenlaw. Ray graduated from the University of Maryland and received his MSHP from UNCCH in Health Administration/Planning. He served in the US Army in both WW II and Korea.

Ray was also in Viet Nam as a civilian employee. He was a retired health care planner. Ray loved the Lord, and was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. At Mt. Gilead, Ray sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and participated in several mission trips over the years. Ray also served on the Chatham County planning board and the water advisory planning committee for high density growth.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bob Patten of Hurdle Mills; son, Craig Greenlaw of Conover; sisters, Carol Spalding and husband Harlan of Wells, Maine and Floss Clinton and husband Bob of Rockport, Mass; grandchildren, Alexis Patten, Baylee Patten, Olivia Patten, J.R. Patten; and his beloved puppies, Lassie and Laddie. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Rada, whom he lovingly referred to as “Oke-San”.

The service to celebrate Ray’s life was conducted by Rev. Dan Robinson at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2008 from Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Interment, with military honors, followed in the church cemetery.

Friends visited with the family from 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday at Griffin funeral service in Pittsboro.

Memorials may be sent to either Duke Hospice or Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Arrangements were under the care of Griffin funeral service, Pittsboro.

LINDA BEAL SOUTHERN

Linda Beal Southern, 62, of 4735 Goldston-Glendon Road, Goldston, NC died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Southern was born August 17, 1946, the daughter of Melvin P. and Lilly (Fields) Beal, Sr.

Mrs. Southern was a native of Chatham County and had been employed as a register at UNC School of Public Health. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Linda was preceded in death by her father, Melvin P. Beal, Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Elmer G. Southern; one daughter, Jennifer Adele Binkley of Morrisville, NC; one son, Jamie Binkley of Southern Pines, NC; mother, Lilly (Fields) Beal; three sisters, Ann B. Homesley, Betty Jean "Bet" Blakeley, Hope B. Stevenson; and one brother, Melvin P. Beal, Jr., all of Goldston, NC.

The family received friends Friday, December 26, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 396 NC Hwy 42, Goldston with Rev. Don Daniel officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MAUDE H. KIMREY

Maude H. Kimrey, 99, of 1551A Poe Road, Siler City died Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Kimrey was born January 19, 1909, the daughter of DeWitt and Latisha

(Woody) Harris. She was a retired farmer. Maude was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jean Elkins; brothers and sisters, Dewey Harris, Jack Harris, Hughes Harris, Hilda Staley, Ollie Pike and Daisy Smith. The family wishes to express special thanks to her caregivers Natashia Williams, Tierra Snipes, Zanetta White, Penelope Alston, Dacia Brownie and Yvonne Clark.

She is survived by two sisters, Jewell Harris and Mary Ray, both of Siler City; grandchildren, Patricia Cox of Staley, NC, Danny Elkins of Siler City, NC, Lisa Elkins of Staley, NC, Brian Elkins and wife, Sonia of Bear Creek, NC; great-grandchildren, Heather Parker and husband Joseph, Kristin Routh and husband Justin, Brandon Cox, Cameron Elkins, Dustin Elkins, Chris Elkins, Alexis Elkins, Caitlyn Elkins; great-great- grandchildren, Dillon Parker and Corbin Parker.

The family received friends Friday, December 26, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral was held Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, 230 North Second Avenue. Entombment followed in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

NELL PATRUM JOHNSON

Nell Patrum Johnson, 65, of 519 Lake Forrest Drive, New London, died Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Mrs. Johnson was born August 28, 1943, the daughter of Richard Dace and Marjorie (Reitzel) Patrum.

Mrs. Johnson was a native of Guilford County and an accountant with Regional Construction in Pineville, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Dace and Marjorie Reitzel Patrum and her grandparents, Charlie and Loraine Nellie Reitzel. Nell was a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Otis Johnson; bonus children, Jamie L. Yates, Charles (Chuck) Harris and Rosie Blu all of Badin Lake; special friends, Van and Darlene Culberson of Siler City, NC and Clyde and Bobbie Morphis of Badin Lake, NC.

The funeral was held Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Mt Zion Baptist Church, 3572 W. Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Liberty with Rev.

Derald Smith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the family home on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, 519 Lake Forrest Drive, New London, NC 28127 and on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 after the service at the home of Van and Darlene Culberson, 101 Pine Hill Drive, Siler City, NC 27344.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Badin Lake Animal Rescue,

2496 Blaine Road, New London, NC 28127; or to First Health & Palliative Care of Montgomery County, 150 Apple Cross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.

KENNETH D. WELCH

Kenneth Dustin (Dusty) Welch, 22, of Ramseur, died Thursday (12-18-2008).

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday (12-21-2008) at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Bear Creek with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Welch was a native of Randolph County, employed with B&C Plumbing, attended Community Baptist Church, and was a member of the Powers Company Band.

Survivors include his wife, Erica Whitehead Welch of the home; daughter, Madison Welch, of the home; mother and step-father, Robin Johnson Fulford and Joseph Fulford of Siler City, father and step-mother, Kenneth Welch and Kim Welch of Glendon; brother, Brandon Welch of Asheboro; step-sister, Stephanie Loflin of Ether; and grandparents, Cary Lee and Rita Johnson, David and Linda Welch, Bobby and Sheila Blackmon, all of Siler City.

BOB RAY MITCHELL

Mr. Bob Ray Mitchell, 78, of Pittsboro died Saturday (12-20-2008) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Mr. Mitchell was born in Chatham County, the son of Jim and Ida Holder Mitchell. He served in the Korean war, retired from UNC Chapel Hill after 30 years as Facilities Carpentry Supervisor. He was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years, was in the choir, and taught Sunday School.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Thrift Mitchell of Pittsboro; daughters, Sharon Mitchell Thomas, Cindy Mitchell Brown, both of Pittsboro; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
