Charles Newby Burke, 42, or Ramseur died Tuesday (07-08-2008) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday (07-11-2008) at Rives Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Soblotne officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Burke was a native of Randolph County, employed by Tyco of Greensboro, and a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon. He was a graduate of Asheboro High School and Randolph Community College, where he received an associate degree.
Survivors include his wife Robin Ritter Burke; parents, Charlie Wilson and Carol Holt Burke; sister, Deneese B. Hinkle of Asheboro; father-in-law, Ronnie and Irene Ritter of Ramseur.

CHARLES BURMAN RUMLEY
Charles Burman Rumley, 67, of Goldston died Saturday (07-12-2008) at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Siler City.
Graveside services and burial were held at 2 p.m. Monday (07-14-2008) at Fair Promise United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ken Buckingham and Rev. Gyles Saunders officiating.
Mr Rumley, a native of Guilford County, worked as an explosive expert and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Phillips Rumley of Goldston; sisters, Frances McMasters of Greensboro, and Sybil Crooks of Norfolk, VA.

LORIS BEAL WHITAKER
Loris Beal Whitaker, 67, of Pittsboro died Saturday (07-12-2008) in UNC-Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Graveside services and burial were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (07-15-2008) at Old Rock Springs Cemetery with Rev. Chris Gambos and Rev. Jerry Sanders.
Mrs. Whitaker was a native of Chatham News Publishing County and a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Dottie Whitaker of Pittsboro; sons, Barry and Timothy Whitaker, both of Pittsboro; one grandchild and three step-grandchildren.
MARY MAGDALENE JOHNSON GAINES
Mrs. Mary Magdalene Johnson Gaines, 68, of Goldston, died Sunday (07-13-2008) at UNC-Hospitals.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (07-16-2008) at Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Siler City at 1 p.m..
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Ann Gaines, Mary Catherine Gaines, both of Goldston; son, Darrell Gaines of Elon; sisters, Ruby Abee, Margaret Hough, Doris Tallent, June Easter; brothers, Rexford Johnson, Rowland Johnson, Paul Johnson; and two grandchildren.
NINA CAIN JONES
Nina Cain Jones, 99, of 900 West Dolphin Street, Siler City died Thursday, July 10, 2008 at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Siler City.
Mrs. Jones was born July 7, 1909, the daughter of Alexander and Emma
(Cook) Cain. Mrs. Jones was a native of Surry County and a retired homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Shelley Jones.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Jones Burke of Bonlee; one son, :
Alex Jones of Franklinville; grandchildren, Dennis Jones, Darrell Jones, Danny Jones, Rita Smith, Winford Dixon, William Joseph Dixon, Edna Spivey;
16 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 5946 Pleasant Grove Church Rd., Bennett, with Rev. Thurman Williams officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

EULA MAE HART KERNSTINE
Eula Mae Hart Kernstine, 88, of 10310 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.
Mrs. Kernstine was born February 14, 1920, the daughter of Ed and Viola
(Beal) Hart. Mrs. Kernstine was a native of Chatham County and retired from Chatham Foods. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph F.
Kernstine. Eula Mae was a member of Meroney United Methodist Church. Even after her children were grown and left home, Eula Mae continued to love and guide them through their lives and they stayed in constant contact. She had three dogs, Peanut, Taco and Misty who were her great companions. Mrs.
Kernstine will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by four daughters: Dorothy Ann Kernstine of the home, Barbara K. Cockman and husband, David of Bear Creek, Lorraine K. Sharpe and husband, Raymond of Bear Creek, Shirley K. Elkins and husband, Johnny of Bear Creek; one son, Joseph E. Kernstine and wife, Debra of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Angie Murray, Johnboy Johnson, Pam Kernstine, Sam Kernstine, Mandy Frazier, Cory Cockman, Brandon Elkins; great-grandchildren, Chase Murray, Reagan Murray, Chole Kernstine, Alicia Kernstine, Pacey Kernstine, Landon Johnson; step-grandchildren, Randy Nall, Jr., Justin Sharpe, Jessica Sharpe, Davie Cockman and Tina Robertson.
The family received friends Friday, July 11, 2008 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, and other times at the home of Shirley Elkins. The funeral was held at 11 a.m.
Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Meroney United Methodist Church, 10568 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek with Rev. Jim Whitaker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
FLORENCE LUCAS MOORE
Florence Lucas Moore, 88, of 316 East Dolphin, Siler City went to be with her Savior Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City. Mrs.
Moore was born October 22, 1919, the daughter of Jonas Wilson and Flora Elizabeth (Johnson) Lucas.
Mrs. Moore was a native of Harnett County and a homemaker. She was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church, the Hazel Moody Sunday School Class and the Ora Byerly Group. She was also a member of the Rosa Ellis Group of Tyson's Creek Baptist Church. Florence was a past member of Palestine Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas W.
Moore, an infant son and daughter and a son-in-law, Pete Davis.
She is survived by three daughters, Bonnie M. Davis of Siler City, Annie M. Warner and husband, General of Sneedville, TN., Linda M. Langley of Bonlee; one son, Lee W. Moore of Bear Creek; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a special friend, Iris Parnell.
The family received friends Tuesday, July 15, 2008 from 7:00- 8:30 p.m.
at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Palestine Presbyterian Church, Linden, NC 28356 with Rev. Bob Gilsthorpe officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
GLORIA SUE HANCOCK
Gloria Sue Hancock, 51, of Siler City died Monday, July 14, 2008 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17,
2008 at Chatham Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Sykes and Rev. Allen Chatwood officiating.
Gloria was a native of Guilford County, a homemaker and bank teller. She was a member of Barbecue Presbyterian Church at Buffalo Lake and a 1975 graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School. She was an organ donor.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelley Keith and husband, Taylor, of Greenville; sons, Dow Rainey of Greenville, Dougie Rainey of Southern Pines; parents, Robert G. and Helen Matthews Hancock of Siler City; brother, Bob Hancock and wife Polly of Siler City; and two grandchildren.
Visitation was held Wednesday July 16, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City. At other times, the family was of the home of her parents at 2381 South Chatham Avenue, Siler City.

Jeffrey “Jeff” Reed Sartwell. 42, of Liberty died Saturday (07-12-2008) at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (07-15-2008) at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro. Rev. Garry Arnett officiated.
Survivors include his wife, Corina Ann Liechti Sartwell of the home; son, Kyle Smith of the home; mother and step-father, Carol and Sonny Hall of The Villages, FL; brothers, James Sartwell of Liberty, Robert Sartwell, William Keith Sartwell, both of Baltimore; sisters, Christine Keenan and Steffany Able, both of Baltimore, MD.

MADELINE S. GRAVES
Madeline S. Graves, 84, of Siler City died Friday (07-11-2008) at U.N.C> Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday (07-17-2008) at Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church with Mary J. Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Graves was a native of Washington County and a retired teacher in the Chatham County school system. She was a member of Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church and the Order of Eastern Star #521 Past Worthy Matron.
Survivors include a son, Dr. A. Craig Graves of Baltimore, MD; sisters, Martha Harris of Darby, PA, Harriet B. Hill, Constance Owens, both of Fayetteville, Francis Meadows of Greensboro; and four grandchildren.
The family received visitors from 7-9 p.m. at Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church.
CHRISTOPHER DANIEL HINSHAW
Christopher Daniel Hinshaw, 36, died Wednesday (07-02-2008) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Graveside services and burial were held at 11 a.m. Saturday (07-05-2008) at Plainfield Friends Meeting Cemetery.
KATHLEEN MARY “KATHY” KRAFT
Kathleen “Kathy” Mary Kraft, 60, died Wednesday (07-02-2008) at SunBridge Care Center in Siler City.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday (07-19-2008) at Urban Brothers Funeral Home in East Amherst, NY.
Mrs. Kraft was a native of Buffalo, NY, a research and development technician for pacemaker manufacturing. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include her mother, Emily Kraft of NY; son, Donald Patterson of Charlotte; daughter, Amber Krombach of Pittsboro; brother, Timothy Kraft of NY; sister, Judy Burroughs of NY; and seven grandchildren.
