Gurney L. "Bud" Chase
November 11, 1931 - March 03, 2012

Mr. Gurney Lee “Bud” Chase, 80, died Saturday evening, March 3, 2012, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville. A native of Greene County, Bud was born November 11, 1931, the son of Oscar and Dora Vaughan Chase. He retired with Cherry Hospital where he worked in maintenance and together with his wife operated Ruby’s Curtain Room for many years. Bud was a member of Free Gospel PFWB Church.

Funeral Services will be held 7:00 PM Monday, March 5, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson funeral service with Reverend Terry Heath officiating. Committal Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 6, at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ruby Turnage Chase on October 3, 2006.

His surviving family includes his daughter, Beverly Chase Howell and husband, Gary of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley Ross and husband, Ronnie of Walstonburg, Tammy Rena Owens and husband, Mike of Snow Hill, and James Christopher Adam Howell of Snow Hill; great-grandchildren, Makayla Brooke Owens, Michael Dylan Owens, and Ashton Cole Ross; and a sister, Grace Smith of Princeton.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening following the service and other times at the residence, 2942 Gurganus Road, Snow Hill.

Verna H. Vaughan
April 10, 1922 - March 02, 2012

Mrs. Verna Hart Vaughan, 89, died Friday morning March 2, 2012, at the Brian Center in Goldsboro. A native of Greene County, she was born April 1, 1922, the daughter of Johnnie B. and Celia Ann Hart. Mrs. Vaughan was a member of Fort Run PFWB Church.

Funeral Services will be held 7:00 PM Saturday, March 3, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson funeral service with Reverend Larry Turlington officiating. Committal Services will be held 2 PM Sunday, March 4, at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

In addition to her parents and several siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kirby W. “Jack” Vaughan, Jr.; son, Ronnie Vaughan; and granddaughter, Lisa Carol Vaughan.

Her surviving family includes a son, Donnie Vaughan and wife, Donna; daughter-in-law, Letha T. Vaughan; sister, Helen H. Hill; grandchildren, Kami V. Smith and husband, Timmy and Kellie V. House and husband, Josh; and great-grandchildren, Layla Sutton, Kramer Sutton, Addison Smith and Aiden House.

The family will receive friends following the service on Saturday and other times at the home of Donnie Vaughan.

Reverend Paul L. Womack
December 25, 1931 - February 29, 2012

Reverend Paul Leon Womack, 80, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012. A native of Harnett County, North Carolina, he was born December 25, 1931, the son of Oscar and Katie Womack. He completed his secondary education at Mars Hill College and earned his Masters degree from East Carolina University. Reverend Womack had served as Pastor of Glen Raven Baptist Church in Kinston for 19 years. A veteran, he had honorably served in the US Marine Corps.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, March 3, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson funeral service with Pastor H. Powell Dew, Jr. and Pastor Jan Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at the historic St. Barnabas Cemetery.

Reverend Womack was preceded in death on February 17, 2012, by his wife, Linda Mundell Womack.

His surviving family includes his children, Paula W. Berube, Steven L. Womack and Andrew L. Womack, all of Beaufort, SC; sister, Barbara Shiflett of Virginia; brother, Lloyd Womack of Maryland; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday morning prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glen Raven Baptist Church, c/o Linda Woody, 404 Rhem St, Kinston, NC 28504.

Tommy Mooring
May 21, 1939 - February 20, 2012

Mr. Thomas Richard “Tommy” Mooring, 72, died Monday evening, February 20, 2012, at his home. A native of Greene County, Tommy was born May 21, 1939, the son of Johnnie Richard and Viola Mills Mooring.

He was a member of Davis Grove Baptist Church and was a Master Mason in Radiance Lodge 132 and Jerusalem Lodge 95. He had served as Past Master of Radiance Lodge 132 and was currently serving as Master of Jerusalem Lodge 95. He had retired as a member of the Shine Fire Department and accordingly the Shine Fire Department Honor Guard will participate in the services.

Tommy was a truck driver by profession and had driven for more than 20 years with Murphy and Hinnant Trucking of Snow Hill. One never to be idle, following his retirement from the road, he worked part-time farming.

Funeral Services will be held 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson funeral service with Reverend Steven Gay officiating. Committal Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 23, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by a daughter, Malisa Robbins; and grandchildren, Jessica Robbins and Krista Robbins.

His surviving family includes his wife, Roberta Heath Mooring; children, Glenda Mooring Gibson and husband, Terry of Fuquay Varina, Ty Robbins and wife, Pam of Snow Hill, Dan Robbins of Snow Hill, and Michael Robbins and wife, Heather of Elizabeth City; a sister, Iris Mooring Ginn of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Ben Gibson, Sydney Gibson, Trey Robbins and fiancé, Heike Armatta, Chelsea Robbins, Brandy Maxwell, Justise Robbins, Wesley Robbins, Robert Robbins and Andrew Robbins; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Maxwell and Dawson Armatta.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Wednesday evening and other times at the residence, 170 Mooring Lane, Snow Hill. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Davis Grove Baptist Church, c/o Irma Edmundson, 4144 Fort Run Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580.

Linda M. Womack
February 27, 1950 - February 17, 2012

Mrs. Linda Mundell Womack died Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Inpatient Hospice of University Medical Center in Greenville. A native of Delaware, she was born February 27, 1950 the daughter of Howard and Vera Marie Mundell. Mrs. Womack completed her undergraduate studies at East Carolina University earning her degree in education. She later returned to East Carolina earning both her Masters of Education and Masters of Counseling. She served in the Pitt County schools for 24 years prior to retiring due to her declining health. Mrs. Womack was a member Glen Raven Baptist Church in Kinston.

Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Monday, February 20, at the historic St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, SE Fourth Street, Snow Hill, with Dr. Powell Dew, Pastor Janice Faye Rouse and Reverend Gustavo Gamboa officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the St. Barnabas Cemetery.

Her surviving family includes her husband, Reverend Paul L. Womack of the home; mother, Vera Marie Mundell of Delaware; sister, Jean Mundell of Florida; brother, Howard Mundell of Delaware; and a nephew, Howard Joe Mundell of Delaware.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Monday and other times at the residence, 106 W. Harper St, Snow Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to Glen Raven Baptist Church, c/o Linda Woody, 404 Rhem St, Kinston, NC 28501.

Sandra R. Eason
February 17, 1943 - February 17, 2012

Sandra Roberts Eason, 69, of the Jason Community of Greene County moved on to her heavenly home on Friday evening, February 17, 2012. Her death followed a brief, but courageous, battle with cancer.

A Greenville native, Sandra was born February 17, 1943, the daughter of Sam Roberts and Garnet B. Roberts.

Sandra is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bobby Eason; her sons, Bob Eason and wife, Lesley of Jacksonville, and Tommy Eason and wife, Marybeth of Greenville; and her special grandchildren, Trey Eason and Gage Eason both of Jacksonville, and Mary Roberts Eason and Hayes Eason both of Greenville.

Additionally she is survived by her mother, Garnet Boyd Roberts of Greenville; sisters, Penney Jenkins and husband, Jesse of Greenville, and Patsy Parker and husband, Linwood of Four Oakes; brothers, Larry Roberts of Greenville and Bib Roberts and wife, Sharon of Brandywine, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sandra’s father, Sam, preceded her in death.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 21, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson funeral service with Pastor Scott Hardy officiating. Interment will follow at the Mewborn Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 – 8:30 PM at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 7734 Hwy 903 South, LaGrange. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jason Presbyterian Church, 7783 Hwy 903 S, LaGrange, NC 28551, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of one’s choice.

Jack M. Mobley, Sr.
September 20, 1946 - February 14, 2012

Mr. Jack Morris Mobley, 65, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Born September 20, 1946 in Cuba, NY, he was the son of Morris and Jacquelyn Blanche Mobley. Jack was a veteran of the US Navy where he served for seven years.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 16, at the Westview Cemetery in Kinston (located on Hillcrest Road) with Reverend Leon Grubbs officiating.

In addition to his mother, Jack was preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Mobley and Paula Barwick; and a special brother-in-law, Mervin Michael Wagner.

Jack is survived by his wife, Lorreine Tyndall Mobley; father, Morris Mobley of Kinston; children, Jackie Mobley Cockrell of Greenville, Danielle Mobley Harrison and husband, Brad of Snow Hill, Mandy Mobley Tigert and husband, James of Greenville, and Jack Morris Mobley, Jr. of the home; sisters, Patricia Wagner of Midlothian, Texas, and Pamela Mobley of Kinston; his grandchildren, Rachel Tigert, Tyler Harrison, Zachery Harrison and Sara Kate Harrison; and his cocker spaniel, Jingles.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Thursday and other times at the residence, 1892 Indian Springs Road, Mount Olive.

Donald E. Culp
August 06, 1917 - February 11, 2012

Mr. Donald Edgar Culp passed away on February 11, 2012 in Snow Hill following an extended illness. Born August 6, 1917, the son of Edgar Reed and Lydia Smith Culp, he was a native of Apollo, Pennsylvania. Mr. Culp married his high school sweetheart, Twila, and together they enjoyed 69 years of marriage until her death in 2006.

A skilled and respected pilot, Mr. Culp lived abroad for many years flying for TWA Airlines, serving as the Director of Flight Operations for Trans-Mediterranean Airlines in Beirut, Lebanon and acting as Captain and supervisor of flight operations for Saudi Arabian Airlines. He lived in Southern Pines and worked with Pinehurst Airlines and eventually settled in Snow Hill, flying for the NC Forestry Service.

Mr. Culp was a gifted flight instructor and trained pilots at Parks Air College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and in other locations, certifying over 200 pilots in his lifetime. Many of these aviators grew to love him and stayed in touch over the years. Mr. Culp was a member of the Snow Hill Presbyterian Church.

A Celebration of his life and funeral services will be at 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson funeral service. The “Captain” was loved by many and friends are encouraged to visit and share stories following the service. Interment services will be held at 9:00 AM Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Culp is survived by his beloved and devoted daughter, Nedra Dawn Culp, of Snow Hill; and a sister-in-law, Gail Ardella Beck, of California.

Family and friends acknowledge the kindness of Greene County Meals on Wheels and Community Home Care and Hospice, who served him in his declining health. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Snow Hill Presbyterian Church, c/o Bobby Glossip, 201 Hines Street, Snow Hill, NC 28580.

Lillie C. Jones
February 21, 1919 - February 11, 2012

Mrs. Lillie Essie Corbett Jones, 92, died Saturday morning, February 11, 2012 at Greendale Forest Nursing Center in Snow Hill. A native of Greene County, she was born February 21, 1919, the daughter of Lee and Fannie Taylor Corbett. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and active member of the Snow Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church until her health declined.

Funeral Services will be held 7 PM Monday, February 13, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson funeral service with Reverend Tony Lee and Reverend Wayne Johnson officiating. Committal Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, February 14, at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, John Hubert Jones; siblings, Viola Carter, Annie Lee Crews, Albert Corbitt and Thomas Harper Corbett; and a granddaughter, Janice J. Barrow.

Her survivors include her daughter, Mary Jones Fail and husband, Jimmy of Pikeville; sons, Hubert Densel Jones, Randall Lee Jones and wife, Thelma Jane, and Kenneth Ray Jones and wife, Anna, all of Snow Hill; brother, Russell Corbitt and wife, Agnes of Nahunta; 7 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening following the service and other times at the residence of Hubert Densel Jones, 257 Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill.

Jennifer B. Harper
April 23, 1953 - June 07, 2011

Mrs. Jennifer Barrow Harper, 58, passed away Tuesday evening, June 7, 2011 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital following a battle with cancer. Jennifer was born April 23, 1953, the daughter of James William and Nannie Mae Hoffman Barrow. She worked with the former Collins and Aikman in Farmville for 28 years and she was a member of Harrell’s Chapel FWB Church. Jennifer endured her illness with a striving endurance constantly focusing on her family above herself even until the last days.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Randall “Randy” Harper of the home; daughter, Julie Ann Harper of Snow Hill; mother, Nannie Mae Hoffman Barrow of Snow Hill; and sisters, Jean B. Ham of Belhaven, Elaine B. Davis of Randleman, Dale B. Manning of Snow Hill, Arlene B. McCoy of Snow Hill and Annis B. Stallings of Snow Hill. In addition to her father, Jennifer was also preceded in death by a brother, William Harvey “Bill” Barrow.

Funeral Services will be held graveside 11:00 AM Friday, June 10, at the Harrell’s Chapel Church Cemetery with Reverend Todd Sutton officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the residence, 100 Dixon Road, Snow Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Harrell’s Chapel FWB Church, c/o Arlene McCoy, 78 Dixon Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580.
