Kenneth Wickman

Boiling Spring Lakes - Kenneth Michael Stemac Wickman, 34 of Boiling Spring Lakes, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014.

Mr. Wickman was born icon December 30, 1979 in Michigan the son of Dawn Mercier.

Survivors include his mother; his loving wife Shannon Wickman of the home; a son Trenton Levi Wickman; two step-sons Anthony Boylan and Nicholas Boylan; a step-daughter Makayla Boylan; a twin brother Kevin Wickman; and two sisters Ariel Mercier and Audrey Mercier.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lucia Droege Freedman

St. James - Lucia Droege Freedman, age 63, of St. James passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Freedman was born icon in Brazil on January 4, 1951, daughter of the late Howard and Frances Jones Droege. She worked thirty-one years for the Department of Veteran Affairs as a social worker administrator. Mrs. Freedman moved here six years ago from Vienna, Virginia and made her home in St. James.

Survivors include her husband of thirty years, Jay Freedman of the home; two sons, Matthew Freedman of Arlington, Virginia and Alexander Freedman of Blacksburg, Virginia.

A funeral mass will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Trent Watts officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, 2501 Oak Lawn Avenue, Suite 435, Dallas, Texas 75219 or St. Vincent de Paul Society, Director of Development, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 2050-C Chamblee Tucker Road, Atlanta, GA 30341 .

Geraldine Jones Johnson

Geraldine Jones Johnson, 54, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003. funeral service was held Sunday, November 30 at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are her husband, Raymond David Johnson of Fuquay-Varina; daughter, Carrie Ann Johnson-Dobbs of Holly Springs; sons, Raymond David Johnson of Fuquay-Varina and Michael Ray Johnson of Morehead City; grandchildren, Anji Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Scarlett Dobbs, Savannah Jade Dobbs, and Isabella Dobbs; parents, Joseph David and Della Mae Mills Jones of New Bern; sisters, Rebecca Humphrey of Cary and Jo Ann Canaday of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Floyd E. Killette

Floyd R. Killette, 71, of 1312 Buffaloe Road, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003. He was the owner of a property management and a Korean War Veteran of the US Army.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Surviving: a companion, Blythe Nelms; mother of the children, Nell M. Killette; daughters, Kim Killette of Nashville, NC and Joy Towler and husband, Paul of Leesburg, Virginia; son, Blake Killette and wife, Brenda of Wake Forest; sister LaRue Batten and husband, Jay of Richmond, Virginia; brother, Andy Killette and wife, Sandy of Gastonia; grandchildren, Sarena Shasteen and husband, Tony, Tara Towler, Mat Killette, Whitney Towler, Emily Killette, Mackenzie Towler and Jared Killette; great-grandchildren, Jay and Max Shasteen.

William Henry Eakes Jr.

William Henry Eakes Jr., 75, died at home on Thursday, November 27, 2003 after a long battle with cancer.

William (Bill) was born icon on January 2, 1928 in Durham, NC but was raised in Fuquay-Varina. He is a graduate of Campbell College and then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1947 and later served in the Naval Reserves.

Bill started in 1957 with the Wake County Public School System as an Electrical Inspector/Fire Marshall. He began his career with Wake County Government on January 1, 1958 as Chief County Electrical Inspector. He was promoted with the added responsibility of Zoning Administrator in 1965 and held the position until 1972. In April of 1978, he became Wake County's first Director of Building Inspections until his retirement in December 1993.

Bill was a charter member of Aversboro Baptist Church in Garner where he served as a deacon and a member of the building committee. Over the last four years, his faith was enriched by attending Bible Study Fellowship.

Bill was selflessly devoted to his family and touched the lives of all that knew him. He drew strength through faith in Christ during his extended illness.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Mary Elizabeth Eakes; his daughters, Beth Eakes of Cary, Carole Eakes Kottyan and her husband, Tim of Tega Cay, SC, and Tina Eakes Grant and her husband, Rob of Charlotte.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Eases Sr. and Stella Phillips Eases; sister Tile Eases Phillips.

Warren G. Wilkins

Warren G. Wilkins, 61, of 208 Banner Lane in Benson, died Sunday, November 23, 2003 at his residence. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Revs. Sam Worley and Floyd Boston officiated. Burial followed in Banner Chapel Church Cemetery.

Mr. Wilkins was born icon in Harnett County on October 6, 1941, to the late Herman and Eula Jackson Wilkins. He was preceded in death by brothers, John Grady and Corbett Wilkins.

Mr. Wilkins was a sales representative for the True Value Hardware Company and was a member of Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church and served in many capacities.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Benson Wilkins, sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Sheila Wilkins of Garner, Shanon Wilkins of Four Oakes, and Keith and Jane Wilkins of Dunn; sisters, Edna Harris of Chesapeake, Virginia and Joyce Tart of Dunn; five grandchildren, Sha, Jonathan, Amanda, A.J. and Lauren Wilkins; and his brother-in-law, Stevie Benson of Benson.

Dennis A. Matteotti

Southport - Mr. Dennis A. Matteotti, age 62, of Southport, died April 20, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center.

Mr. Matteotti was born icon November 17, 1949 in Carrolltown, Pennsylvania and was the son of the late Albert and Peggy Puskar Matteotti.

He was a manager for the federal government for 33 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Southport and a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree. Dennis received his undergraduate degree from Thiel College and his graduate degree from George Washington University. He loved all sports and was a faithful fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. He served as a volunteer for the Southport food pantry.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam Matteotti, brother, Arthur Matteotti and wife Beth of Oak Park Illinois, and a wonderful uncle to Jack and Reagan, Mariam’s son, Richard Croson and family.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 2:00pm, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Reverend Trent Watts officiating.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Peacock Newnam and White funeral service

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Lung Association, Knights of Columbus of Southport, or Southport Food Pantry.

Peggy Jean Lewis – Oak Island

Peggy Jean Lewis age 91 of Oak Island died Wednesday September 22, 2010 at Dosher Nursing Center.

Mrs. Lewis was born icon in London England on October 31, 1918 and was the daughter of the late Sir Jacob Epstein and Margaret Gilmore Dunlop Epstein. She was preceded in death by a son, Ian Hornstein and grandson Norman Hornstein.

She is survived by a daughter, Leda Sloat of Oak Island; four grandchildren, Amy Wain, Mark Sloat, Devon Moore, Lucian Hornstein and nine great grandchildren; sister in-law, Isabel Epstein of London England. She also leaves behind many others that loved her joyful, giving, and humorous spirit, particularly her Dosher Nursing Home family

A memorial service will be held Saturday September 25, 2010 at 3pm at the chapel of Peacock Newnam & White funeral service with Reverend Walter Taylor officiating. Private Interment will be in Northwood Cemetery, Southport.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Oak Island Presbyterian Church General Fund, 1503 E. Oak Island Dr., Oak Island, NC 28465.
