Dorothy Mitchell Thomas

Dorothy Mitchell Thomas, 63, of 816 Curtiss Drive, died Saturday at Wake Medical Center. Funeral services to be held today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. in Chapel of Memories at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
Surviving are her daughters, Debbie Bazemore of Raleigh, Denise Ennis of Fuquay — Varina, Sandra Forrest, of Clayton; her sons, Eddie Mitchell, Jr., of Durham, Dennis Mitchell, of Clayton, Lynn Mitchell, of Fuquay — Varina, and Leigh Mitchell of Garner. She is also survived by her brothers, Tommy and David Jackson, 19 grandchildren and three great — grandchildren.
The family received friends Tuesday at Bryan — Lee Funeral Home in Garner.

Andelia "Love" P. Baker
May 21, 1913 — November 30, 2003
Andelia "Love" Phillips Baker, 90, of Garner, died Sunday, November 30, 2003 at Raleigh Community Hospital. She was born
in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Roger and Mary Denton Phillips. She was the widow of Leroy Baker.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 2, at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Wendell. Burial followed at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughters, Pauline B. Moss and husband, Ned, of Swansboro, and Jean B. Atkins, and husband, Jarvis, of Garner; a brother, Lawrence T. Phillips of Rocky Mount. Four grandchildren also survive her: Pam Adams, Leigh Ann Harris and Timothy Cunningham; and four great — grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Jim Phillips, Blonnie Perry, Lois Clark, Lela Pearce, Buck Phillips, Kearney Phillips, Ruth Liles and Christine Liles.
The family received friends Monday at Strickland Funeral Home in Wendell.

Mr. William Wade Whitley
William Wade Whitley, 90, Garner, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2004. He was born
May 8, 1913 to the late Will Whitley and Callie Parrish Whitley of Wake County. His first wife of 49 years, Hazel, and a daughter, Ann Simpkins, preceded Mr. Whitley in death.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 13 years, Elgia Whitley; sons, Stanley Whitley and wife, Hilda of Willow Springs, Haywood Whitley and wife, Patsy of Garner; and daughter, Jeanette Whitley Hagwood and husband, David Hagwood of Garner; seven grandchildren and nine great — grandchildren; brother, Clawson Hicks of Pine Knoll Shores; and several nieces and nephews. He also loved Elgia’s four sons, Kenneth, Larry, J.D. and Kevin Fish.
funeral service for Mr. Whitley was held Thursday, January 15 at Wooten’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church on Sauls Road. He is buried in the church cemetery.

Ms. Teresa Barrow
Teresa Sorrell Barrow, 49, of 10040 Ten Ten Road, died Thursday, January 15, 2004. A funeral service was held Sunday, January 18, 2004 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She is buried in the church cemetery.
Ms. Barrow is survived by a daughter, Michelle Drake; parents, Ray and Betty Sorrell; a brother, Steve Sorrell. All are of Raleigh.

Mr. Thomas Allen Byrd
COATS — Mr. Thomas Allen Byrd, 66, of 2775 Old Stage Road, died Tuesday, January 20 at his residence. A funeral service was held Saturday, January 24 at the Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Coats. The service was officiated by the Rev. Bobby Caudle, Rev. Pearlene Parrish and Mr. Tracy Byrd. He is buried in the Byrd Family Cemetery.
Mr. Byrd was born
October 5, 1937 in Harnett County to the late Allen and Lyda Hughes Byrd. He was a brick mason in the construction business. Mr. Byrd also served in the United States Army, and was a member of Community Chapel Church of Coats.
Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife, Faye Hardison Byrd; son, Teddy Byrd and wife, Shelia Byrd of Coats, Tracy and Donna Byrd of Holly Springs; daughter, Jatana Clevenger and husband, Scott, of Garner; sisters, Joyce Rollins and Brenda Overbee, both of Coats; brothers, Charles Byrd of Coats, Jerry Byrd of Dunn; and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Joyce Benson Smith
Mrs. Joyce Benson Smith, 66, of Garner, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004. A funeral service was held Friday, January 30, 2004 at Benson Grove Baptist Church in Benson. She is buried in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was an active member of the Garner Senior Center and Benson Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Vance Smith; parents, George P. and Lillie Ann Parrish Benson; a sister, Uldine B. Landgon; and a stepson, Wayne Smith. She is survived by a brother, G.P. Benson of Benson; sisters, Arlee B. Howard of Willow Springs, Mary B. Strevel of Benson, and Cleo B. Radford of Dunn; step — children, Kathy Wood and Dwight Smith, both of Raleigh; mother — in — law, Madie Mills Smith of Angier; step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Geneva Hargrove – Southport
Geneva S. Hargrove was born
on June 29, 1952, in Southport, NC. She was one of nine children born
to the late Mary Emma Galloway Smith and Elmer Smith. She entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 13, 2010.
Geneva S. Hargrove graduated from Brunswick County Training School in 1970. Geneva worked over 20 years at Lowes Home Improvement until she became ill. She was a member of Pearl of Truth # 148 and helped raise over $20, 000 in scholarships for girls in Brunswick County. Geneva worked very hard in her community by giving her time and efforts to those in need. She visited the sick regularly and always had a kind word of encouragement. Geneva was a member of First Baptist Church of Southport, North Carolina and was very involved until she became sick and was unable to attend regularly. Geneva truly loved the Lord and showed it to whomever she came into contact with. Geneva was a friend to many, always giving unselfishly to others and will truly be missed by everyone. Geneva loved singing, listening to gospel music, reading the Bible, being with her family and having fun with friends and her children.
Geneva was married to her loving and devoted husband, Mr. James E. Hargrove, Jr. for 40 years.
In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Smith.
Geneva will forever be remembered by her husband, James E. Hargrove, Jr. of the home; three beloved children James E. Hargrove, III of Roxboro, NC, Reshonda L. Hargrove of Raleigh, NC, and Amanda B. Hargrove of Durham, NC; one brother Elmon Smith of Southport, NC, seven loving sisters, Gerthel Graham (George) of Southport, NC, Vivian Smith of Glassboro, NJ, Lillian Whitmore of NY, Betty Jones (Fred) of Southport, NC, Anna Davis of Chesapeake, VA, Gwendolyn Smith of Brooklyn, NY, and Debrah Smith of Southport, NC; grandchildren, Chyna C. Hargrove (Eloy) of Arizona, Xylon A. Walker of Raleigh, NC, Cameron Hargrove of Roxboro, NC, and Jameson Hargrove of Roxboro, NC; goddaughter, Jamie Jackson; along with countless nieces, nephews, friends and family whom were blessed to have known her.
Geneva touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and maintained her trademark sense of humor, all the way to the end.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the International Longshoremans Association Building in Southport. Burial will follow in Northwood Cemetery.

Mr. Donford L. Matthews
BENSON — Mr. Donford Lloyd Matthews, 72, of 7833 Elevation Road, died Wednesday, January 28 at his residence. Funeral services were held Friday, January 30 at the Rose and Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. The Revs. Richard McKeel and Michael Wilbource officiated the ceremony. Mr. Matthews is entombed in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Matthews was born
June 8, 1931 in Johnson County to the late Lewis M. and Inez Hardee Matthews. He was a chicken farmer and attended Steven’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Ann Evans Matthews; daughter Melinda McLamb and husband, Michael, of Benson; sons Marshall Matthews and wife, Hazel, of Erwin, Ronald Matthews and wife, Ronda, of Benson, Anthony Matthews and wife, Laurie, of Erwin, Garry Matthews and wife, Barbara of Surf City, Timmy Matthews and wife, Rose, of Willow Springs; a sister, Erdeen Harper of Raleigh; 13 grandchildren; nine great — grandchildren.
