Howard Dean Wooten, Jr.
February 2, 1937 – July 14, 2013
Howard Dean Wooten, Jr., 76, of Chocowinity passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington. A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
“Barney” was born
in Wilson County to the late Howard Dean Wooten, Sr. and Rosa Nannie Gardner Wooten. He was retired from the Greenville Daily Reflector where he worked for thirty years. He also worked for the U.S. Army Reserves in Greenville for a number of years. “Barney” was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the U.S. as well as in Germany. He was a collector of antiques and he loved to dance.
“Barney” is survived by his wife, Lois Keech Wooten of Greenville; his three brothers, Charles R. “Rudy” Wooten of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Jimmy Ray Wooten of Tarboro and Rev. Kenneth Eugene Wooten of Killeen, TX and his sister, Barbara Ellen Wooten Tippett of Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warriors Ministry at Fort Hood Texas. Please make payments to: Cadence International, 485 County Road 4492, Kempner, Texas, 76539-5488. Cadence will send out a tax exempt receipt.
Rebecca Braswell Gardner
March 20, 1919 – May 19, 2013
Rebecca Braswell Gardner, 94, of Wilson passed away Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Gaylord Lehman will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
Rebecca was a longtime member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities. Rebecca was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Rebecca is survived by her son, James A. Gardner and wife, Joelda W. of Conyers, GA; her daughter-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Gardner of Wilson; her grandsons, J. Michael Gardner and wife, Donna of Marietta, GA, William Gardner and wife, Andrea of Dover, DE and Jeffrey W. Gardner and wife, Tessa of Atlanta, GA; her granddaughter, Donna Tucker and husband, Shawn of Winston Salem, NC and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Elmo Lee Gardner and her son, Philip Lee Gardner.

Virginia A. Howard
April 16, 1935 – May 24, 2013
Sarah Virginia Aiken Howard, 78, of Wilson passed away Friday. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Ray Wells will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home.
Virginia was a former teacher. She loved reading and instilled her love of reading to her children. She enjoyed watching birds, having her family for the holidays and spending time with her beloved dog, Louie.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 56 years, George E. Howard of the home; her son, Steve Howard of Raleigh; her daughters, Rebecca Howard Swider and husband, Tim of Winston-Salem, Lisa Howard Wilson and husband, John of Raleigh and Laura Howard Wood; and husband, John of Sims; her grandchildren; Brit and Katherine Swider, Eric and Rachel Wilson, Christopher and Sarah Wood and Matthew and Jeffrey Howard, and her sister, Carolyn Aiken Blanchard of Fuquay Varina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Herman Aiken and Margaret Chestnutt Aiken.
Michael John Kromis
July 17, 1955 – June 28, 2013
Michael “Johnny” Kromis, 57, of Wendell passed away Friday. Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim McFatter will officiate.
The family will receive friends 1:30 – 3:15 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. Following the service the family will receive friends at the home of Brenda Lamm Dobbins, 5345 Skyland Loop, Wilson.
“Johnny” was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and a friend to all that knew him. He will be remembered with loving thoughts and smiles that will warm the heart. He served his country honorably with the United States Navy and was retired from the US Post Office for over 30 years.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Caitlin Pope and husband, Michael of Raleigh; his grandson; Ashton Pope of Raleigh; his father, Emanuel “Smokey” Kromis of Gastonia; his sister, Vicky Kromis of Wilson, and his brothers, Fred Kromis and wife, Jill of Charlotte and “Bernie” Peeden of Fremont.
He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Doughtie Kromis; his mother, Evelyn “Pootsie” Peeden; his step-father, Bernice Ray Peeden and his cousin, Leslie Dale Dobbins.

Linda Coleman Lamm
February 21, 1943 – July 15, 2013
Linda Coleman Lamm, 70, of Wilson passed away Monday. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Joe Ange will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home.
Linda was a licensed beautician for 42 years, 17 of which were at Spring Arbor of Wilson. She was a longtime member of Wildwood Free Will Baptist Church. Linda was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered with joy and thoughts that warm the heart.
Linda is survived by her husband, Gerald A. Lamm of the home; her daughter, Lynn C. House and husband, Glenn of Micro; her son, Aubrey Lamm and wife, Teena of Wilson; her grandson, Dakota House of Micro; her step-grandsons, Darren Gardner of Greenville, SC and Eric Gardner of Wilson and her three sisters, Bahma Littleton and husband, Thomas of Wake Forest, Katie Watts of Wilson and Margaret Page and husband, Cooper of Kernersville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert C. and Lula Wiggins Coleman; her sisters, Mary Gartrell and Sadie Corbett and her brother, Frank Coleman.

Charles Melville Eatman
March 1, 1943 – July 9, 2013
Charles Melville Eatman, 70, of Wilson passed away peacefully Tuesday at UNC hospital surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Reverend Dr. DeWayne Eakes and the Reverend Ray Wells will officiate.
The family will have visitation 10 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
Charles is survived by his wife, Ann Gladson Eatman of the home; his daughter, Melissa Eatman Grimson and husband, Randy of Durham; his niece, Martha Eatman Tippett and husband, Tim of Zebulon; his nephews, David Eatman and wife, Kim of Lucama, Al Eatman and wife, Leigh Ann of Roanoke Rapids, and Ryan McKeel of Charlotte; his great niece, Maddie Eatman of Lucama; his great nephews, Wyatt Eatman of Lucama, Phillip Tippett of Zebulon, Deans Eatman and Thomas Eatman both of Roanoke Rapids and his brothers-in-law, James McKeel and wife, Jean of Bailey and Billy Gladson and wife, Domitta of Sims.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Mavis Eatman; his sister, Sue Eatman McKeel and his brother, James Thomas Eatman.

Mae Bunn Howell
October 14, 1915 – July 14, 2013
Mae Bunn Howell, 97, of Bailey passed away Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey Town Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Petit will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home of Carolyn Bissette.
Mae is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Bissette of Bailey; her granddaughters, Judy Hinton and husband, Doug of Bailey and Cynthia Batten and husband, Freddy of Kenly; her grandsons, Allan Howell of San Antonio, TX and Jeffery Howell of Wilson; her great-granddaughter, Shannon Sellers and husband, Anthony of Kenly; her great-grandson, Chris Batten of Kenly; her great-great granddaughter, Katlyn Hinton of Kenly; her great-great grandson, Scott Sellers of Kenly; her daughter-in-law, Edith Howell of Bailey and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Howell; her son, Freddy Howell; her son-in-law, Ronald Bissette; four brothers and one sister.
