Elaine Jenkins Alexander
July 5, 1932 – January 7, 2012

Elaine Jenkins Alexander, 79, of Wilson died Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday at Winstead United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Dunham will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday at the church immediately following the service.

Mrs. Alexander is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Deloatch and husband, Jim of Cary, and Lori Marschhauser of Apex; a son, Lee Hardison and wife, Paula of Wilson; two granddaughters, Lauren Deloatch and Kathryn Roberson; four grandsons, Michael Deloatch, Clay Hardison, Cody Hardison and Taylor Marschhauser, and a brother, Donald Jenkins and wife, Ellen of Oxford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Alexander; her parents, John and Ruth Jenkins, and a special friend, Ernest Hudson.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Winstead United Methodist Church, 1407 S. Tarboro Street, Wilson, NC 27893 or Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.

Arrangements are by Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.

Joyce Farmer Bridgers
August 28, 1938 – January 20, 2012

Joyce Eloise Farmer Bridgers, 73, of Elm City died Friday. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Johnny Taylor.

The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and at other times at 5222 Highway 42 East, Elm City.

She is survived by a son, Jimmy Rodger Bridgers and wife Kris of Gridley, IL; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Bridgers of Elm City; two granddaughters, April Peoples a husband, Kirk and Megan Bridgers; a grandson, Nicholas Bridgers and wife, Melissa; six great-grandchildren, Jozlyn Bridgers, Madison Bridgers, Nathan Bridgers, Alex Peoples, Courtney Peoples and Mason Peoples; a sister, Barbara Clark and husband Charles of Louisburg ; a brother, Ervin Farmer and wife Patricia of Rocky Mount and five loving sisters-in-law, Patsy Short, Bonnie Short, Betty Scott, Judy Boswell and Sandra Davis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Reid Bridgers and her parents, Jimmy Henry and Dora Wallace Farmer and her son, Eddie Reid Bridgers.

Wilbur Robin Pridgen
March 8, 1924 – January 26, 2012

Wilbur Robin Pridgen, 87, of Wilson died Thursday. Funeral Services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. The Pastor Leo Bennett will conduct the service. Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wilbur was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He was a Wilson County Sheriff and law officer for thirty three years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during War World II. He was a lifetime member of Mt Zion United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Gay Mercer Pridgen; daughter, Robin Bess Pridgen Mercer of Wilson; step- daughter, Gail Joyner and husband, Dean of Wilson; step-son Ray Mercer and wife Mary Jo of Bailey; daughter-in-law Martha Pridgen of Wilson; grandsons Jonathan Pridgen and wife, Sharon of Wilson; Robbie Mercer of Wilson; Matthew Mercer and wife, Natalie of Wilson; great-grandsons, Jackson and Jacob Pridgen of Wilson; step-grand-daughter, Renee Vick of Wilson; step-grandson Brandon Mercer and Bradley Mercer of Bailey; step-great-grandson, Matthew Vick of Wilson; sisters, Huldah Hart of Elm City and Dora Jane Joyner of Elm City; brother, Fred Pridgen and wife Doris of Elm City; special friends Dewayne and Elaine Honeycutt of Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Thomas and Lillie Duke Pridgen; his first wife Marjorie Thompson Pridgen; son Wilbur T. “Butch” Pridgen; sister Patsy Pridgen Finch and three brothers, Richard, Thomas and William “Dub” Pridgen.

Rick Jacobs
May 9, 1955 – January 31, 2012

Rick Jacobs, 56, went home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center, after a 26-month courageous and inspirational battle with Metastatic Colon Cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

A celebration of life will be held at 11am Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Wilson, Dr. Douglas Murray conducting. The family will receive friends following the service. A celebration of life will be held at 3 pm Sunday at Cherokee Chapel, Red Springs. The Rev. Jimmy Locklear will conduct the service. Visitation is prior to the service from 1-3 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Rick was a 1973 graduate of Prospect High School, finishing second in his class. A 1979 graduate of NC State, he was a proud member of the Wolfpack Nation, of which he was a life long supporter. Rick served his country honorably with the U.S. Army. He began his career in the paper industry in Albany, NY and worked for 28 years as Design Manager and Engineer for Voith Fabrics in Wilson, NC. A member of First Baptist Church, he faithfully attended the Sojourner’s Sunday School class, inspiring all as he grew in his faith journey.

Rick was a loving husband, and he adored his children and grandchild. Those who knew him admired his determination, courage and spirit. He made a great impact on family, friends and co-workers with his zest for life and amazing fortitude, which enabled him to work up until the time of his death. Those who knew Rick will never forget him.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia (Locklear) Jacobs; his daughter Lenni-Catherine, sons William and Justin (Tammy) and a granddaughter Charlotte, all of Wilson; sister Lynnette, brothers Kenny, Johnny and Jeff (Jan), all of Maxton, brother Don of Rex, and brothers Arlie (Venus) and Ben (Mitzi), of Red Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Dallas and Parree Chavis Jacobs, and a brother, Jerry Jacobs.

John David "Jack" Titchener

December 30, 1921 – November 23, 2011

John David "Jack" Titchener, 89, of Fayetteville, formerly of Wilson, passed away on November 23, 2011 after a lengthy illness. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The Rev. Marty Stebbins will officiate.

John David "Jack" Titchener was born icon December 30, 1921 in Cortland, New York to the late Walter Edmund Titchener and the late Ruth Lindberg Titchener. He moved with his family to Wilson, NC in 1933 during the Depression. He graduated from The Baylor School for Boys in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1940 and enrolled in UNC-CH, where he participated in Navy ROTC and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. In 1942, he enrolled in the U.S. Navy Pre-Flight School in Chapel Hill, went on to Hutchinson, Kansas and Corpus Christie, Texas for U.S. Navy Flight School, and after earning his wings, he went on to Jacksonville Naval Air Station for flight training. From there, Jack went to the Pacific Theatre, where he served with distinction in several major campaigns, including Iwo Jima and the Phillippines, as a carrier pilot, flying the F6F Hellcat. In 1943, he married his high-school sweetheart, Elizabeth Cook Rogers, who predeceased him. After the war, Jack and his family returned to Wilson, where he took a sales position with Hackney Bros. Body Company, where he worked for many years. In 1974, he moved to Wrightsville Beach and lived there and in Wilmington until he became ill. Jack loved to sing and participated in glee clubs and choirs in high school, college and most recently, as a longstanding member of the St. James Episcopal choir in Wilmington. In 1994, he returned to college and graduated from UNC-Wilmington at the age of 82 in 2004. He is survived by his four sons, Robert Lee Titchener and wife, Lauren Titchener of Portland, Oregon, Walter Edmund Titchener, II and wife, Sara Titchener of Dunn, NC and William Rogers Titchener and John David Titchener, Jr. and wife, Gayle Titchener, all of Raleigh, NC, eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Jack was a man who had no enemies and he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

The family would like to commend and thank all of the staff at the N.C. Veterans Home in Fayetteville, NC for the consistently excellent care that they provided for Jack during his residence there. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church at 25 South 3rd Street Wilmington, NC 28401-4595 or St. Timothy's Episcopal Church at 202 Goldsboro Street East, Wilson, NC 27893-4004.

Geraldine “Gerrie” Mooring Barnes
March 17, 1929 – December 1, 2011

Geraldine “Gerrie” Mooring Barnes, 82, of Bailey, formerly of Rock Ridge died Thursday. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Marsh Swamp Cemetery. The Rev. Ray Wells and the Rev. Paul Tedder will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday at Marsh Swamp Church immediately following the service and other times at 11097 Pace Road, Bailey.

She practiced as a registered nurse in Wilson County for many years.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by three daughters, Connie Tee and husband, Rick of Bath, Carol Ray and husband, Curtis of Bailey, and Becky Nordstrom and husband, Robert of Bath; a son, Jimmy Barnes of Bailey; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charmaine Ferguson of Wilson, and Faye Bass of Fremont and a brother, Donald Mooring of Knoxville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bennett Barnes.

Dorothy Dean Joyner Bailey
October 5, 1953 – December 16, 2011

Dorothy Dean Joyner Bailey, 58, of Middlesex died Friday. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. The Rev. Larry Wayne Ball will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service and at other times the family will be at 3657 Friday Rd., Sims.

Ms. Bailey is survived by her husband, Robert Bailey Jr.; two sons, Michael Perry and wife, Keaira of Middlesex, and Terry Perry and wife, Valerie of Wendell; four granddaughters, Abigail Perry, Harleigh Perry, Lanee Perry, and Alexis Bullock; a grandson, Jeremy Brown; a nephew, David Bullock; and her mother, Canvas Perry Joyner.
