Dorothy Marie Coggins, 67, of Walstonburg passed away Friday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Snow Hill Town Cemetery. The Rev. Phillip Wood will officiate.
The family will receive friends 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Donna Marie Renfrow of Walstonburg; her sister, Frances Reid and husband, Jackie of Smithfield, VA; her brothers, John Lucas and wife, Sun-ye of Surry, VA and Charles Ray Lucas and wife, Dueley of Somerset, KY; her special cousin, Thomas Ferrell and wife, Arlie of Pikeville, and many aunts, uncles and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Leslie Coggins; her parents, John Vernon and Mildred Lula Keen Lucas and her sister, Barbara Anne Hardin.

Oliver P.H. “Bill” Johnson
March 25, 1933 – March 8, 2013
Oliver P.H. “Bill” Johnson, of Wilson passed away Friday. Memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. Family will receive friends immediately following the service.
“Bill” is survived by his daughter, Angie J. Johnson of Pennsylvania; his son, Oliver E. “Rick” Johnson and wife, Melinda of Wilson; his granddaughter, Kelly K. Johnson of Atlanta and his special friend, Sandra Shirley of Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Jean Lamm Johnson and his mother, Margaret Layton.

Varina Deans Vaughan
August 24, 1927 – March 9, 2013
Varina Deans Vaughan, 85, a resident of Avante of Wilson, passed peacefully from her earthly home to her Heavenly home on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Interment will follow in Contentnea Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Ed Earp and the Rev. Sam Cullifer will officiate.
The family will recieve friends 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Varina was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. Her three passions in life were her family, her church, Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, and having her hair done.
Surviving are two daughters, Gloria D. Allen and husband, Dewey, and Rita D. Outland and husband, Rudy, and one son, Albert Deans and wife, Debra all of Wilson; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bertha Lucas Glover of Sims and Rachel Lucas Pearson of Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Louis Deans and Paul Vaughan, a sister, Agnes Davis, and two brothers, A.J. Lucas and Clinton Lucas.
The family would like to express a special thank-you to the staff of Avante of Wilson for their loving and compassionate care of Mrs. Vaughan.

Wilton “Bill” H. Hall
August 2, 1928 – April 27, 2013
Wilton “Bill” H. Hall, 84 of Wilson passed away Saturday. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday in Maplewood Cemetery in the Rose Garden. The Rev. Paul Dunham will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
“Bill” was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He will be thought of often with wonderful memories full of love. Bill served his country honorably with the US Army. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska at the Ladd Air Force Base.
“Bill” is survived by his wife, Billie Anne W. Hall of the home; his daughter, Domitta Gladson and husband, Billy of Sims; his brother, Mickey Hall and wife, Vickie of Rocky Mount; his brother-in-law, J.B. Stith and wife, Bonnie of Sims; his niece, Sherrie Jernigan and husband, Brad of Wilson and his nephews, Jeff Stith and wife, Lisa of Wilson, Chris Stith and wife, Michelle of Wilson, Gray Whitley of Wilson, Kevin Hall and wife, Lisa of Rocky Mount: Scott Hall and wife, Janice of Red Oak and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Blanche Hall.
Samuel W. “Sam” Whitley
September 12, 1941 – March 31, 2013
Samuel W. “Sam” Whitley, 71, of Middlesex, passed away Sunday. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hollywood Cemetery, Middlesex. The Rev. Blake Stallings and the Rev. Roy Jernigan will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at his residence.
Sam was a plumber and a volunteer firefighter for the Middlesex community for over thirty-five years before his declining in health. When Sam had any time away from either of these activities, he was usually outside grilling a pig for everyone to enjoy. As he would say right before turning it over, “Now we are getting on with the program.” We will miss you Sam.
Sam is survived by his wife, Faye Hinnant Whitley of the home; his daughter, Cindy Whitley Anderson and husband, Jeff of Middlesex; his granddaughter, Ashley Anderson and his grandson, Taylor Anderson both of Middlesex and his sister, Joyce W. Eatmon and husband, Mack of Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burvis Whitley and Maude G. Whitley Snead and his brothers, William Whitley and Garland Whitley.

Judith Sawyer Mercer

Judith “Judy” Sawyer Mercer, 67, of Wilson passed away Monday. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Rusty Russell and the Rev. Brian Tippett will officiate.
The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home.
Judy is survived by her husband, Claude Mercer of the home; daughter, Katrina Goff of Wilson; sons, Brian Bass and wife, Shantia of Elm City and Robin Mercer and wife, Rita of Elm City; grandchildren, Madison and Camden Bass, Chad and Janna Mercer; sister, Janice Turner of Fort Mitchell, Alabama and brother, Dennis Sawyer and wife, Debra of Wilson.

Joyce F. Horne
August 15, 1928 – March 31, 2013
Joyce F. Horne, 84, of Wilson passed away Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Maplewood Cemetery. The Pastor Doug Rogers will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at her residence.
Joyce was a member of Peace Free Will Baptist Church. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all that knew her.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Linda Horne Munns and husband, Al of Jamestown, NC; her son, Kenneth “Kenny” Horne and wife, Shirley of Wilson; her special daughter, Diane Dew of Wilson; her grandsons, Jody Hinnant, Daniel Munns and wife, Maria;Joel Munns and wife, Nicole; her granddaughters, Katherine Sims and husband, Eric; Ashley Davis and husband, Mark; and Michelle Horne; her great-grandsons, J.C. Hinnant, Gage Hinnant, Landon Davis and Ryan Munns and her great-granddaughters, Kailey Munns and Riley Grace Munns.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse J. Horne and her parents, William Cofield Farmer and Naomi Daniel Farmer.
