HICKORY — Mr. Alfred Junus “Bill” Finger, 69, of Brian Center East, formerly of Buck Oak Road, Lincolnton, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Ebony & White’s Funeral Service. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his brother, Herbert Finger Sr., 1568 Buck Oak Road, Lincolnton.

Clee Toney
BOSTIC — Mr. Clee Buren Toney, 82, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Haven in the Hills Rest Home. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Mount Harmony Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sheow Seen
SHELBY — Mr. Sheow Fu Seen, 72, of 804 Phillips St., died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Canton, China, he was a son of the late Eng and Wong Seen. He retired as vice president in 1993 from Investment House of Janney, Montgomery and Scott, New York. He was active for many years in the American Legion and was a Baptist. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Wake Forest University in 1957. He served in the Army during Korea, Quartermaster Corps and Panama Canal Zone. He is survived by his wife, Lily Loo Seen of the home; a son, Dr. Nelson Seen and his wife, Teresa, of Shelby; a daughter, Dr. Carolyn Seen and her husband, Jay Clemens, of San Francisco, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Dr. Harry Loo and his wife, Janet, of Camarillo, Calif.; a niece and nephew, Marisa Loo and Geoffrey Loo, both of Camarillo; six grandchildren, Kathryn, David, Michael and Joseph Seen, Nathaniel and Abigail Clemens. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel with Father Eric Housenecht officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 7:30 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association, Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 5216, Glenn Allen, VA 23058.

Bill Watts
DUNCAN’S CREEK COMMUNITY — Mr. R. Bill Watts, 68, of Price Cemetery Road, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Summie and Lillie Blanton Watts. He retired from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office in April of 2001, having served as a deputy sheriff during three administrations, Sheriff Damon Huskey, Sheriff Ed Searcy and Sheriff Dan Good. He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hollifield Watts; two sons, Roger Watts and his wife, Dawn, of Duncan’s Creek and Doug Watts and his wife, Faye, of Polkville; four daughters, Debbie Turner and her husband, Crate, and Luann Beaver and her husband, Wayne, all of Hollis, Jean Sparks and her husband, Earp, and Chris Hamrick and her husband, Mark, all of Polkville; and 11 grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Joe Edwards and Phil Bailey officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home at its new location, 359 E. Church St., Bostic. Vanie Jones
MOORESBORO — Mrs. Vanie Fox Jones, 72, of Trinity Church Road, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late William Lawrence and Maude White Fox. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Fox; and a sister, Lillie Fox Adair. She is survived by her husband, L.C. Jones of the home; two sons, Bruce Jones and John Jones, both of Mooresboro; two brothers, Marshall A. Fox and Horace Fox, both of Mooresboro; a sister, Martha Fox of Mooresboro; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A graveside service will be Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Trinity Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. David A. Irish and the Rev. Travis Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. before the service at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside.

Mary McAbee
GAFFNEY, S.C. — Mrs. Mary Elaine McAbee, 44, of 2113 Pacolet Highway, died Sunday, April 21, 2002. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Life Changing Church, S.C. 150, with the Revs. Roland Frazier and Joe Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at White Columns-Gaffney Funeral Service and at other times at the home of Larry McAbee, 219 Baker Road, Gaffney.

‘J.M.’ Sansing
SHELBY — Mr. James Marshall “J.M.” Sansing, 86, of 518 Bentley Road, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Samuel S. and Mary Verdie Blanton Sansing. He was a retired farmer and also worked in textiles for Dover Mill and J.P. Stevens. He was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Patterson Sansing; two brothers, Carl Sansing and Samuel S. Sansing Jr.; three sisters, Meta McSwain, Sue McSwain and Ruth Daves. He is survived by a son, Jim Sansing and his wife, Linda, of Shelby; two daughters, Nancy Gardner Hardin and her husband, Don, of Shelby and Mary Ruth Andrews of Charlotte; four sisters, Pantha Brown, Aletha Fisher, Dot Justice, all of Shelby, and Nell Daves of Lawndale; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold N. Smisor officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church, in care of Carolyn McSwain, 600 Hide-a-way HL, Shelby, NC 28152.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mrs. Anna Corinne Cook, 87, of 606 W. Pine St., died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Magnolia Manor in Spartanburg, S.C. Services will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Broad River Baptist Church with the Rev. Norman Philbeck officiating. Burial will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Mrs. Wilma Beam Dellinger, 85, of 2045 Kenwood Road, formerly of Shelby, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Columbia Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla. The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Trexler officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.

Frank Phillips
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Frank Phillips, 68, of 13 Bennett Drive, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at his home. Born in Gaston County, he was a son of the late Roy and Neva Willis Phillips. He was a member of Oak View Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and was an employee of Spencer-Pettus Machine Co. in Bessemer City. He served in the North Carolina National Guard for 11 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Phillips, Howard Phillips and Tom Phillips; and three sisters, Betty Lefevers, Ruby Helms and Beulah Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Betty Williams Phillips of Kings Mountain; two sons, Bobby Phillips and his wife, Cindy, and Scott Phillips and his wife, Kim, all of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Jenny Rikard and her husband, Barry, of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Melvin Helms and his wife, Judy, of Kings Mountain, Lewis Phillips and his wife, Angie, of Bessemer City and Jerry Phillips and his wife, Pat, of Bessemer City; two sisters, Louise Lee Roddey of Kings Mountain and Muriel Norwood of Bessemer City; six grandchildren, Michael Phillips and his wife, Kim, of Iron Station, Andrew Phillips, Clay Phillips, Stephanie Rikard, Stacy Phillips and Mickey Ramsey, all of Kings Mountain; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Walker, Sydney Phillips and Alyssa Ramsey. The funeral was Sunday at Oak View Baptist Church with the Revs. Jamey Billings, Todd Reynolds and David Turner officiating. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family received friends Saturday at Harris Funeral Home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Vince Heafner officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and at other times at the home of her daughter, Suzanne Goins, 1052 Mary’s Grove Road. CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Earl Martin, 82, of 111 Harrilson Road, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Carolina Care. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Stein officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the ceremony. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home. Louise McEntire
HARRIS — Mrs. Louise Morgan McEntire, 81, of 205 Harris-Henrietta Road, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Autumn Care Nursing Center. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hopewell A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Richard Woody
HICKORY — Mr. Richard Gary Woody, 58, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte. Born June 16, 1943, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late H.T. and Mattie Lee Morrison Woody. He was employed by Merchants Distributors Inc. and served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of First United Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Fox Woody of the home; a daughter, Emily Woody of Hickory; a son, Richard Gary Woody Jr. of Hickory; two stepdaughters, Amy Callahan and Gina Walters, both of Hickory; a brother, James Thomas Woody of Jacksonville, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Faith United Church of Christ with the Rev. Paul Cook officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Faith United Church of Christ, 204 19th Ave., S.W., Hickory, NC 28602; or to National Organ Transplant Foundation. Bass-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Doreather Gingles
SHELBY — Ms. Doreather Gingles, 76, of 414 East Warren St., Apt. 5, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby. A native of Gastonia, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Willie Lee and Emma Knox Gingles Sr. She worked 52 years as a manager and presser in the laundry and dry cleaning business. She was a former member of New Zion Baptist Church in Bayonne, N.J., where she served as president of the Pastor’s Aid, vice president of the Usher Board and was a member of the Ladies’ Missionary Circle. After moving back to North Carolina, she joined Hoppers Chapel Baptist Church in Shelby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Willie Lee Gingles Jr., Samuel Gingles and Thomas Gingles; and two sisters, Ethel Stevenson and Deliah Houser. She leaves to cherish fond memories, two sisters, Cynthia Wallace of Gastonia and Elvie J. Gingles of Shelby; and many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Hoppers Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Osco Gardin officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church. Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
