SHELBY — Mrs. Annie Henson, 99, of 1016 Buffalo St., died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Geneva ‘Nig’ Huffstetler
SHELBY — Mrs. Geneva Moore “Nig” Huffstetler, 84, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, formerly of North Myrtle Beach, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Hospice of Wendover in Shelby. Born in Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late George Harrison and Elizabeth Watson Moore. She ran Blockade Runner and Driftwood Restaurants and more recently was a day caregiver. She was a member of Dover Baptist Church, taught Sunday School and was a member of Order of Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Leonard Huffstetler; a brother, Wesley Moore; three sisters, Ola McFarland, Lillian Bland and Nettie Allen; and a daughter-in-law, Gail Hamrick Huffstetler. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard L. Huffstetler of Shelby, Richard D. and Wanda Huffstetler of Mooresville and Edward W. and Cathy Huffstetler of Bridgewater, Va.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy and Allen Collins of Forest City and Joan Eslick of Gallivant’s Ferry, S.C.; a sister, Ruth Allen of Roanoke, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Dover Baptist Church with the Dr. Robert Lamb and the Rev. Phil Bailey officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours before the service at the church and at other times at the home of her son, Leonard Huffstetler, 1313 Briarcliff Road in Shelby. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150; or to Dover Baptist Church Building Fund, 1501 Polkville Road, Shelby, NC 28150. Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

‘Diz’ Harris
BOONE — Mr. Walter Brewer “Diz” Harris, 72, of 200-13 Meadow Ridge Drive, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Dana H. and Thankful Howell Harris. He retired as lieutenant colonel in 1984, after 25 years of service with the Air Force as a fighter pilot. He also served in Vietnam. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Harris and Dana Harris Jr. He is survived by two sons, Patrick Mark Harris of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Richard Scott Harris of Knoxville, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Christopher Scott Harris and Tiffany Nicole Harris of Hot Springs. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. Palmer Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Carl Rippy
LINCOLNTON — Mr. Carl William Rippy, 74, of 725 E. Sycamore St., died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ebony & White’s Funeral Service.

Ruth Reavis
SHELBY — Mrs. Ruth Eileen Heffern Reavis, 55, died April 8, 2002, at home. She is survived by her husband, Franklin Reavis of the home; three sons, Bob Reavis and Louis Reavis, both of Shelby and Franklin Reavis of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Adrienne Clayton and Brianne Reavis, both of Sandy Lake, Pa.; a brother, John A. Heffern Jr. of Oil City, Pa.; a special friend, Charles Moore; and 10 grandchildren. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Lutz-Austell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Clements
FOREST CITY — Mrs. Annie Mae Jones Clements, 90, of 492 W. Main St., died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital. A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late George and Sarah Moore Ford. She retired from Tanner Companies with 22 years of service and was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church in Bostic. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Blake Jones, who died in 1959; a son, Homer Jones; and a grandson, Avery Jones. She is survived by three sons, Marshall Jones of Kings Mountain, Hicks Jones of Forest City and Frank Jones of Knoxville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Glenwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Ivey officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Padgett and King Mortuary.

Blanche Hughes
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Mrs. Blanche Hughes, 59, of 7921 Oriole St., Apt. 803, died Monday, April 8, 2002, in Jacksonville. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Genesis Funeral Home.

‘Bill’ Bentley
BRADENTON, Fla. — Lt. Col. William Charles “Bill” Bentley, USA, Ret., 82, of 3319 47th Avenue East, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, in Bradenton. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park with full military honors by the Army, Fort Bragg. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home before the service and at other times at the home of his daughter, Gerianne Mooney, 3012 Charles Road, Shelby. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Carolinas Chapter, 500 E. Morehead St., Charlotte, NC 28202; or to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

Fred Spurling
BELLWOOD — Mr. Fred D. Spurling, 66, of 310 St. Peters Church Road, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Stamey’s Funeral Home.

Lucille Harrill
SHELBY — Mrs. Lucille Holland Harrill, 80, of 3346 Crawley Road, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Kate Elaine Brooks Holland. She retired from Harrill Hosiery Mill where she was an owner. She was also a homemaker and belonged to Lattimore Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Harrill. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Phyllis Harrill; a sister, Elizabeth H. Blanton; a granddaughter, Mandy Harrill, and her fiancé, Robby Lovelace; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Henry and Jean Harrill, all of Lattimore; two nieces and their husbands, Anne and Larry Frazier and Carolyn and Steve Reynolds; five nephews and their wives, Billy and Sherry Blanton, Danny and Dianne Blanton, Donald and Beth Blanton, Gene and Amanda Blanton and Johnny and Kim Harrill; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park, with the Rev. Max Burgin officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services, and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Lattimore Baptist Church, Family Life Building Fund, P.O. Box 188, Lattimore, NC 28089.

‘Eddie’ Gowan
BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mr. Horace Edward “Eddie” Gowan, 56, of 506 Hillcrest Drive, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at home. A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Clingman Memorials Gardens, with the Rev. Billy Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at White Columns Funeral Service, Blacksburg, and at other times at the home.

Clyde ‘Pete’ Morrow
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Clyde E. “Pete” Morrow, 66, of 106 Raintree Drive, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at home. Born in Kings Mountain, he was a son of the late Franklin Howard and Nola Smith Morrow. A Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, he was a life member and past commander of Otis D. Green Post No. 155 of the American Legion. He belonged to White Plains Shrine Club, Fairview Masonic Lodge No. 339, AMVETS and VFW. He owned Carolina Installation of Kings Mountain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Troy Morrow and Carvel Morrow. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marie Baker Morrow of the home; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Bryan C. and Cindy Morrow and Bruce H. and Kristi Morrow, all of Kings Mountain, Barry E. Morrow of Grover and C. Mitchell and Angie Morrow of Hampton, Va.; a brother, Thomas Morrow; and two sisters, Dessie Loftin and Sue Murphy, all of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Jessica Ball, Nikki Ball, Michelle Herd, Brittney Morrow, Brandy Morrow, Zachariah Morrow, Elijah Morrow, Justin Morrow, Hannah Morrow, Harrison Morrow, Jonathan Morrow and Jackson Morrow; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Elaina. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Family Worship Center, with the Rev. Roger Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Westview Gardens in Bessemer City. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home. FOREST CITY — Mr. Leroy Mayse, 78, formerly of 115 Getty St., died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Genesis Funeral Service & Chapel in Shelby.

J.K. Brooks
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. J.K. Brooks, 71, of 118 Owens St., died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at home. Born in Robbinsville, he was a son of the late James Henry Brooks and Ada Shuler Brooks. He belonged to Boyce Memorial ARP Church in Kings Mountain and retired from the City of Kings Mountain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Whitaker Brooks; two brothers, Carl Brooks and Wayne Brooks; and a sister, Gene O’Neil. He is survived by a son and his wife, Donnie and Darlene Brooks of Blacksburg, S.C.; two daughters, Dorothy Brooks and her friend, Scott Morrison, of Kings Mountain, and Debbie Brooks Martin and her husband, Rocky, of Blacksburg; two brothers, J.D. Brooks of Robbinsville and John Brooks of Murphy; two sisters, Nettie Jenkins and Eula Rae McClaffey, both of Robbinsville; and six grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Brooks, Letha Marie Bagwell, Alicia Dawn Bagwell, Ragan Martin, Kyle Martin and Todd Martin. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Boyce Memorial ARP Church, with the Rev. Doug Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home, and after the service Tuesday at the home of Donnie Brooks, 806 Burnt Mill Road, Blacksburg. At other times, the family will be at the home.

GROVER — Mr. Eddie “David” Wease Jr., 24, of 1030 Bethlehem Church Road, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at home. Born in Cleveland County, he was employed by CSS Express and was a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James L. Thompson, and paternal grandfather, Don Wease. He is survived by his parents, Eddie David Wease Sr. of the home; Tammy Wease of Kings Mountain; Jacqueline Thompson Roberts, and husband, Jerry, of Kings Mountain; his wife, Lena Abernethy Wease of Hildebran; maternal grandparents, Bill and Jean Baker of Boiling Springs, and a maternal grandmother, Evelene Thompson of Kings Mountain; a paternal grandmother, Marie Wease of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Bradley Wease of Kings Mountain and Justin Fountain of Kings Mountain; five uncles, Patrick Wease and his wife, Teresa, of Boiling Springs, Scott Wease, Jim-Bo Thompson, and Don Tomason and his wife, Candace, all of Kings Mountain, and Don Henderson and his wife, Sheila, of Kings Mountain; three aunts, Sheila Davis Jones and her husband, Tim, of Boiling Springs; Teresa Baker of Boiling Springs, and Lynn Thompson of Shelby. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Patterson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Bryan Glisson, Mark Canipe and Mike Chambers officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Christian Freedom Baptist Church Building Fund, 246 Range Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.

UNION MILLS — Mr. Morgan Hornback died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at White Oak Manor in Rutherfordton. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Crowe’s Funeral Home.
