ELLENBORO — Mrs. Reba Doty Butler, 102, formerly of Ellenboro, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at Restwell Home of Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harrelson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

CLIFFSIDE — Mr. R. S. Burleson Jr., 79, of 114 Hamrick Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral with Masonic rites will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Goode’s Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Fleming and Dr. Cecil Lovelace officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be private in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

Robert Robbs
GASTONIA — Mr. Robert C. Robbs, 73, a resident of Century Care, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Cherokee County, S.C., son of the late James Howard and Bunah Humphries Robbs. He retired from Gwaltney Foods in Smithville, Va., and was an Air Force veteran, serving in England.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lyman and Buford Robbs.
He is survived by his son, Carl Robbs of Shelby; daughter, Debbie Russel of Kings Mountain; brother, Johnny Robbs and wife, Doris, of Shelby; sisters, Faye Tate and husband, Vernon, and Jewel Warlick, all of Charlotte, Helen Tate and husband, Oliver, of Kings Mountain and Louise Foster of Hampton, Va.; and two grandchildren.
A private service was Wednesday at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Tate officiating. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain.

Annie Buff
SHELBY — Mrs. Annie Inez Richards Buff, 97, formerly of Belwood, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Knob Creek United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Cecil Buff and Dr. Robert T. Parsons Jr. officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

SHELBY — Ms. Vera H. Massey, of 206 Hudson St., died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.

Elese Bridges
SHELBY — Mrs. Elese Blanton Bridges, 84, of 440 E. College Ave., died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at her home.
Born in Cherokee County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Grady and Mildred Bridges Blanton. She was previously employed at Mauney Hosiery Mill. She was a homemaker and a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman Bridges; brother, Winford Blanton; sister, Inez Greene; and a daughter.
She is survived by two daughters, Alice Kerr and husband, Tom, of Charlotte and Barbara Lovelace and husband, Robert, of Boiling Springs; granddaughter, Nicole Pueschel and husband, Emory, of Belmont; grandsons, Trey Kerr and wife, Jenifer, and Chris Kerr, all of Charlotte; great-grandsons, Courtland Pueschel of Belmont and Thomas Kerr of Charlotte; great-granddaughters, Carys Pueschel of Belmont and Sabrina Kerr of Charlotte; and caregivers, Sherry Farrow and Sue English.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Boiling Springs Baptist Church, with Dr. Carroll Page officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends before the service from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Boiling Springs Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center and other times at 106 Lyman St., Shelby.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Bobby Dean Smith, 66, of 401 Chestnut St., died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at his home.

The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Ollie Capps
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Mrs. Ollie Geramine Capps, 85, of 4313 Woodbridge Road, formerly of Shelby, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at her home.
Mrs. Capps was a native of Shelby, daughter to the late Guy George and Willie Lucretia Hoyle Canipe and had relocated to Tallahassee four years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Nix and Henry Capps, and an infant daughter, Judy.
She is survived by a son, Arthur Capps and wife, Chun Sik, of the home; one daughter, Lena Greene and husband, Steve, of Lawndale; two granddaughters, Kerry Winfrey of Tallahassee and Sara Greene of Lawndale; one grandson, Dakota Terry of Lawndale; and two great-grandchildren, Aaron and Hanna Winfrey.
A graveside service will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery, with the Rev. Reed Jones officiating.

CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Ricky Lee Whitaker, 59, of 111 Harrilson Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thear Ivo Buff; two sons, Franklin and Jimmy Buff; two brothers, Austin and Carroll Richards; and seven sisters, Maude Murray, Janie Guess, Elva Brown, Madge Johnson, Margie Ledford, Katie Leonhardt and Monta Lou Meade.
She is survived by a son, Kyle Buff of Shelby; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Geraldine Buff of Asheville, Kenneth and Betty Buff of Shelby, and Jack and Judy Buff of Lincolnton; daughter-in-law, Clara Buff of Swannanoa; two brothers, Frank and Warren Richards of Lawndale; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Johnny Lynn
CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Johnny Ray Lynn, 52, of 311 Brown St. died Friday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
The son of the late Mattie Ramsey and Ray Lynn, he was born April 22, 1954, in Cleveland County and worked as a self-employed mechanic.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Strange.
He is survived by two sons, Johnny Lynn Jr. and Chris Allen Lynn, both of Cherryville, two grandchildren, Savanna and Bridget Lynn, three sisters, Patsy Ledbetter, of Shelby, Louise Homesley and husband Jim, of Cherryville, and Alice Philbeck, of Shelby.
Services will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leonard Bumgardner officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home.
Dale Hoyle
CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Dale Eugene Hoyle, 43, of 124 Milo Neal Road, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 12, 1962, in Cleveland County to Vergie Britain Hoyle, Cherryville, and the late Clyde Hoyle and was a member of Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother, Randy Hoyle of Shelby, and a sister, Phyllis Canipe and husband Jacky of Belwood, and several friends.
Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel in Carpenter’s Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from noon to 1 p.m. and at other times at the home.

SHELBY — Mr. Marvin Laborn, 46, of 6910 Acker Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Tom Gilbert
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Tom Gilbert, 68, of 1427 Bethlehem Road, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Tampa, Fla., the son of Ethel Delaporte Gilbert, of Kings Mountain, and the late Thomas Lee Gilbert Sr., and was retired from Lincoln Medical Center. He served in the Army and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jane Byars Gilbert of the home; a son, Jeff Gilbert and wife Sue of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Jamie Gilbert of Kings Mountain and Leann Ramsey and husband Mike of Robbinsville; two sisters, Pattie Fontana and husband John of Greensboro and Sondra Harris and husband George of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Josh Gilbert, Kirstin Gilbert, Kalin Gilbert, Ethan Ramsey, Dustin Gilbert and Zach Gilbert, all of Kings Mountain; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ann and Joe Green, Dale and Dwight Tanner, Bob and Barbara Byars and Sue Jean McCluney, all of Kings Mountain; and several special nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 3:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, with Dr. John Sloan officiating.
The family will host visitors an hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow the service at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Barney Peeler
FOREST CITY — Mr. William Barney Peeler, 82, of 149 Crestview Dr., died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at White Oak Manor, Rutherford.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Georgia Peeler. He was a retired wildlife resource environment officer and a member of Race Path Baptist Church, Friendship Masonic Lodge 383 and the CCC. He served as an Army major during World War II and later served in the National Guard.
He is survived by: his wife, Bonnie Hamrick Peeler; three daughters, Evelyn and Joe Biddy of Ellenboro, Betty Ann Peeler of the home and Cathy and Greg Gibson of Hendersonville; two grandchildren, Chris and Emily Peeler; and two great-grandchildren, Zane Hollifield Peeler and Lillian Forrest Peeler.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Race Path Baptist Church with the Rev. Lance Scarlett and Dr. Robert Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be today from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.
Peggy Jones
HICKORY — Mrs. Peggy Riley Jones, 69, of 4160 Barrett Pike, Maysville, Ky., died Jan. 5, 2006, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at New Covenant Church of God, with the Rev. Dennis Pitts officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

J. Dennis Russell
GASTONIA — Mr. J. Dennis Russell, 69, of 1715 Anthony Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at his residence.
A native of Gastonia, he was the son of the late Joseph William Russell. He was a founder of Imperial Textile Machine Co. and was currently the owner/operator of Innovative Manufacturing Co. He was a veteran of the Army and a faithful member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Delene Wells Russell; mother, Pauline Smith Russell of Gastonia; a son, Jerry D. Russell and wife, Judy, of Gastonia; four daughters, Robyn R. Miller and husband, David, of Gastonia, Ronda R. Freeman and husband, Greg, of Shelby, Kelly R. Nichols and husband, Bucky, of Gastonia and Kimberly R. Hughes and husband, Jeff, of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Thomas A. and Larry H. Russell, both of Gastonia; a sister, Carol R. Keenum and husband, Harold, of Gastonia; 10 grandchildren and a special pet, Lela.
The funeral is Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia, with the Revs. Roger Overton, James Lowery and Fred High officiating. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Ervin Simmons, 80, of 510 Crescent Hill, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at White Oak Manor.
