George Cleveland Robbins Jr.
George Cleveland Robbins Jr., 69, of Nags Head, died Tuesday, Aug, 19, at Outer Banks Hospital.
Born in Rocky Mount, he was the son of the late George C. Robbins, Sr. and the late Emma Batts Robbins and the husband of Beatrice Midgett Grubbs Robbins of the home.
Hewas a retired assistant manager for the Dare County Air Force Range.
He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gary Robbins, George L. Robbins and Buddy Robbins; three sisters, Lucille Robbins, Emma Jordan and Katie Braswell; a daughter, Cindy Robbins and one great-grand daughter, Alexis Burns.
Also surviving are four sons, Bobby Grubbs of Nags Head, Billy Grubbs of Manns Harbor, Larry Grubbs of Rodanthe, and Wayne Robbins of Florida: and five grandchildren.
He was also survived 17 brothers and sisters-in-law, and special friends, Ronald and Patricia Pilgreen and Jerry and Pat Sanders.
Funeral services were held at Twiford's Colony Chapel in Manteo Friday, Aug. 22, with Rev. Ronnie Midgett and Rev. Azariah Jeyakumar officiating.
Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Manns Harbor.

Cleveland Donovan 'Donnie' Scarborough
Cleveland Donovan "Donnie" Scarborough, 76, of Southern Shores, died Saturday, Aug. 23, in a Chesapeake hospital.
Born in Duck, he was the son of the late Lewis and Leona Sandlin Scarborough and the husband of Iva Beacham Scarborough of the home.
He was a retired chief boatswain's mate with the U.S. Coast Guard and served during WWII.
He was also a commercial fisherman and a member of the Duck United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are a daughter, Lillie Scarborough Hussey of Kill Devil Hills; a son, Stephen Scarborough of Bowling Green, KY; three brothers, Gary Scarborough of Kitty Hawk, Lewis "Tink" Scarborough of Kill Devil Hills, and Ronnie Scarborough of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Duck United Methodist Church Tuesday, Aug. 26 with Rev. David Clift officiating.
Burial followed in the Austin Cemetery, Kitty Hawk.

Brooks Daniels Stetson
Brooks Daniels Stetson, 82, of Wanchese, died Thursday, Aug. 28, at her residence.
Born in Wanchese, She was the daughter of the late Paul and Dola Tillett Daniels and the widow of the L. W. Stetson, Jr.
She was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God.
She was a "Highway and Hedges" minister and was a supply pastor for many churches in the area including Manteo, Poplar Branch, Englehard, Colington, Columbia and Manns Harbor, etc.
She was a former Women's Ministries leader at Wanchese Assembly and a former Sunday School teacher.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Carey Worth Stetson, and two sisters, Wanda Daniels and Bertie Daniels.
She is survived by a daughter, Paulette S. Nall of Gibsonville, NC; a son, Charles Wesley Stetson of Wanchese; a sister, Wanda Daniels Cox of Manteo; a brother, Timer Daniels of Wanchese; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at Wanchese Assembly of God at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, with Rev. David Dalton, Rev. James Kelly, Rev. Charles Cookman and Rev. David Daniels officiating.
Burial will follow in the Cudworth Cemetery.
The family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Twiford Funeral Home Saturday evening.

Morton Teitelbaum
Morton Teitelbaum, 58, of Frisco died Saturday, Aug. 23 at his residence.
Blanche S. Utz
Blanche S. Utz, 81, died Aug. 29, at an Outer Banks medical facility.
Born in Duck, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Ellen Roger Scarborough and the widow of Turner Utz.
The former resident of Norfolk, VA was a homemaker and was employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia.
She was a member of the Duck United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy Taylor of Columbia, SC and Jene Sakowski of Pinehurst, NC; two sisters, Marlene Ward of Duck and Melba Perry of Southern Shores; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Lewark and Ellen Etheridge and two brothers, Jim and Ray Scarborough.
A funeral service was held on Sept. 1 at Duck United Methodist Church with Rev. David Cliff officiating.
Burial took place in the Austin Cemetery.

Coast Guard commander dies
Lt. Commander John Gerald Homan, commander of Coast Guard Group Cape Hatteras, passed away at his Buxton residence Nov. 14 from an unknown cause.
Lt. j.g. Joseph Abeyta, deputy group commander, has assumed command of Group Cape Hatteras.
Homan had been commander of Group Cape Hatteras since July 6, 2001.
A native of Reading, Pennsylvania, Homan enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1977.
After advancing to chief boatswains mate in 1987, he was accepted into Coast Guard Candidate School and received a commission in 1990.
His previous assignments included the Coast Guard cutters Point Batan, Steadfast, and Resolute; Coast Guard Station Indian River Inlet; Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, N.J.; Coast Guard Group Detroit; Coast Guard Headquarters; and Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown, Va.
Homan, 45, was the son of Gerald and Virginia Kofroth Homan of Reading, Pa.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Victoria "Vicki" Toohey Homan of the home; a daughter, Megan Homan of Buxton; two sons, Christopher Homan of Millersville, Pa. and Sean Homan of Buxton; and a sister, June Straka of Reading, Pa.
A Funeral Mass and military Honors will be held at Our Lady of the Sea Catholic Church in Buxton today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. with Fr. Andre Izac officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, c/o the LCDR John Homan Memorial Fund, RBC Centura Bank, P.O. Box 176, Buxton, N.C. 27920, attention: Lisa Jones.
Coast Guard Group Cape Hatteras is headquartered in Buxton, on Hatteras Island.
The Group's boundaries extend from the Virginia-North Carolina border southward 150 miles along the coast to Portsmouth Island, and 50 nautical miles offshore.
This area of responsibility includes the inland waterways of the Currituck, Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds, the Intracoastal Waterway and numerous other tributaries.
The Group provides operational oversight, administration, logistics, and engineering support for the subordinate and reserve units which include Elizabeth City, Station Oregon Inlet, Station Hatteras Inlet, Station Ocracoke and Aids to Navigation Team Cape Hatteras.
The state medical examiners office in Greenville will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
