OWEN TOMAS CROCKER
PINETOPS - Owen Tomas Crocker died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Crocker is survived by his mother and father, Cristal Viverette and Brian Crocker of Pinetops; three sisters, Taylor Crocker of Macclesfield, Millie McGary of Pinetops and Ashley Crocker of Rocky Mount; maternal grandparents, James and Diane Oakey of Elm City; paternal grandparents, Arvey and Sallie Crocker of Macclesfield and maternal great-grandparents, Annie Owens of Macclesfield.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. today at Bowling Funeral Home in Tarboro.
Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. today at Cummings Family Cemetery in Macclesfield.

ROCKY MOUNT - Kathy Griffin Denton, died Aug. 9, 2004. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with Pastor Don Bowen officiating.

GEORGE H. MANNING JR.
George Herman Manning, Jr., 77, died Tuesday. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Crowe officiating.
Mr. Manning was born in Martin County to George H. and Helen Johnson Manning, who along with a sister, Jean Glassie, preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was stationed in Guam. He later retired from the City of Queensbury, N.Y., where he worked for many years in the maintenance department.
He is survived by a brother: Carl W. Manning and wife, Nancy of Tarboro; a sister, Lois Hines and husband, Charles of Elizabeth City.

ROBERT L. OVERTON SR.
TARBORO - Robert Lee Overton Sr., 77, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004 at his home.
Mr. Overton was born in Edgecombe County, the son of the late William Charlie and Odelia Parker Overton. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and he was retired from North Carolina Natural Gas. Mr. Overton was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Margaret Carson Overton of the home, daughters, Patricia Overton Boone and husband, Larry of Tarboro, Kathy Overton Smith of Sharpsburg; sons, Robert L. Overton Jr. and Tammy Miller; Paul Overton and Amy Hopkins and Jay Overton, all of Rocky Mount; Mark and Teresa Overton of Spring Hope, Charles and Sharon Overton of Nashville; sisters, Estelle Overton Knight of Roanoke Rapids, Mary Elizabeth (Pat) O. Phelps of Oak Hill, Fla.; grandchildren, Wayne Michael and Darryl Overton of Tennessee, Kirk Boone of Tarboro, Jenny Boone Schill and husband Tom of Elm City, Stewart Overton of Belvoir, Dustin Overton of Rocky Mount, Brianna Overton of Nashville, Kristen Overton of Rocky Mount, Jennifer Overton of Tarboro, Jessica Oney, Sarah Ezelle and Ashton Ezelle, all of Spring Hope, Ashley Baker of Rocky Mount and great-grandchildren, Christopher Oney and Amaya Green of Spring Hope.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Bowling Funeral Home in Tarboro and other times at the home.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Edgecombe Memorial Park Mausoleum with Dr. Philip Deitz officiating.

ROCKY MOUNT - Lewis Taylor, 57, died Aug. 9, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greater Mount Herman Baptist Church in Rocky Mount with Rev. Dennis E. Gunter officiating. Interment will follow in the Northeastern Cemetery, Rocky Mount.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and 7 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends in the Rocky Mount Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.
MATTHEW POWELL JR.
Matthew Powell Jr., 80, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006.

THOMAS GORHAM
BATTLEBORO — Thomas Marshall Gorham, 80, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home in Rocky Mount with the Rev. Renee Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the Battleboro Cemetery.
Gorham was born on Dec. 1, 1925, in Edgecombe County to the late Charles Henry and Minnie Johnson Gorham.
Gorham was a charter member of the Battleboro Volunteer Fire Department in 1948; a member of EMCEMC and the N.C. Cattleman's Association; was named Outstanding Farmer of the Year and Peanut Farmer of the Year; was a N.C. Lifetime Sportsman (N.C. Wildlife Resource Commission); a member of the Edgecombe Mutual Livestock Association; and was inducted into the Peanut Hall of Fame.
Gorham also was a member of The Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of North Carolina and was a Master Mason for 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Lamb Gorham; an infant son; four brothers, Henry W. Gorham, Charles Gorham Jr., Harvey Gorham and William T. Gorham; and three sisters, Martha Jo Hendricks, Sarah G. Lawrence and Louise G. Winstead.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Louise Burton Gorham of the home; a son, William R. “Bill” Burton and wife Barbara of Roanoke Rapids; three daughters, Susan G. Hayes and husband Jack of Wilson, Janet G. McCarthy of Kitty Hawk, and Kathy B. Boseman and husband Wayne of Roanoke Rapids; 10 grandchildren, Brian M. Hayes and wife Mandy of Rocky Mount, Jacob A. Hayes of Wilson, Meredith A. McCarthy and Patrick T. McCarthy, both of Kitty Hawk, Aleisha Pearcey and husband James, Allison P. Coleman and husband Jamele, Ashley E. Boseman, Andrea N. Boseman, Susan P. Ivey and husband Mike, and Mason Price and wife Lauren, all of Roanoke Rapids; seven great- grandchildren; a brother, Phillip R. Gorham of Greensboro; a sister, Ruth Gorham Davis of Greensboro; five nieces who were like daughters, Mary Lynn Gorham Dando, Renee G. Bennett, Vicki G. Kidder, Kim G. Page and Terry G. Williamson; and many other special nieces and nephews.
