ANNE MILLS CLARK
CHAPEL HILL - Anne Mills Clark, a lifetime resident of Chapel Hill died early Friday at UNC Hospitals.
She was 96. Mrs. Clark was born Nov. 6, 1902 in Cambridge, MD and grew up on the eastern shore.
She was a retired antique dealer.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. R.R. Clark, a local dentist for many years.
Memorial graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Walkers Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is in charge of arrangements.

ALMA LEE P. CONE
RALEIGH - Alma Lee Perdue Cone, 69, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999.
Mrs. Cone was predeceased by her husband, John W. Cone, in 1972.
Surviving: children, Johnny W. Cone Jr. of Youngsville, LeAnne Cone Sharp and husband, Don of Raleigh, James Kenneth Cone and wife, Cindy of Apex; brother James H. Perdue and sister, Ernestine P. Duke, both of Louisburg; four grandchildren.
Graveside service 3 p.m. today in Montlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agape Freewill Baptist Church, c/o I.R. Hall, Jr., 422 Barbour St., Clayton, NC 27520.
Arrangements by Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's Street.

MADIE P. HAISLIP
OCT. 5, 1928-FEB. 26, 1999
WENDELL - Madie Phelps Haislip, 70, of 28 S. Buffalo St., Wendell, died early Friday morning at Wilson Memorial Hospital.
She was the widow of Charles H. Haislip Sr.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Wendell with Minister Thomas Biggs officiating.
Graveside service 3 p.m. Saturday at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Plymouth, NC.
Surviving: sons, Charles H. "Chuck" Haislip Jr. of Raleigh, George K. Haislip of Wilson and Terry C. Haislip of Wendell; sisters, Irene Sawyer of Plymouth and Molly Whittington of Whiteville; brother, Harold Phelps of Plymouth; 10 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home, other times at the home.

MARY E. HANSON
CARY - Services for Mary E. Hanson (nee Josephson), 65, of Cary, formerly of Mount Prospect and Fountain Hill, PA, will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1624 E. Euclid Ave., Mount Prospect, where she will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Born June 9, 1933, in West Allis, WI, she died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital, Milwaukee, WI.
Interment will be private.
A homemaker, Mrs. Hanson had formerly worked as a registered nurse at St. Luke's Medical Hospital in Bethlehem, PA.
She volunteered her time in the Dorcas Shop and at Western Wake Hospital in Cary, and was a former volunteer at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary, and a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Mount Prospect.
She was active in WELCA at both churches.
She was the beloved wife for 39 years of John M. Hanson; loving mother of Margaret Hanson of Prospect Heights, Eric Hanson of Bloomingdale, Minda (John) Josten of Palatine and Martha Hanson of Westminster, CO; cherished grandmother of Joanna and Julie Josten; beloved daughter of Dorothy Josephson and the late Selmer Josephson; and dear sister of Carolyn (Don) Jeske and the late Dr. Richard and Dr. Thomas Josephson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Habitat for Humanity, 322 W. Lamar, Americus, GA 31706.
A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 600 Walnut St., Cary on Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at 7 p.m.

WELTON DAVIS McKENZIE
GOLDSBORO - Mr. Welton Davis McKenzie, 78, of Goldsboro and formally of Salemburg, died Thursday at a Raleigh Hospital.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Salemburg Cemetery.
He was a native of Sampson County, the son of the late DeCoster and Vara McKenzie.
He was the husband of the late Rachel Peterson McKenzie.
He graduated from Salemburg High School and the college of Edwards military Institute in Salemburg.
He was a retired Goldsboro businessman.
He served in the US Army Air Force as a bomber pilot and instructor during World War II.
Upon discharge, he worked as a civilian flight instructor at Stallings Air Force Base in Kinston.
After his retirement, he and his wife, Rachel traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Alaska.
He is survived by a brother, James M. McKenzie and his wife, Joyce of Greensboro; sister, Martha McKenzie Hall and her husband, Harry of Virginia Beach, VA; two nephews, Paul McKenzie and his wife, Kate Hightower of Raleigh, and Harry L. Hall, Jr. of Asheville; nieces, Rhonda Terrell and her husband, Steve of Greensboro, Tamra Hall and her husband, Gary of Oakton, VA, Laura Chandler and her husband, Steve of Sterling, VA; one great-niece; three great-nephews.
He is also survived by his wife's family, Joyce Peterson Hill of Clinton, Julianne and Allan Best of Mt. Olive, Jerry Hill of San Francisco; and his life long friends Bruce and Dixie Carlton of Clinton.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Fellowship Hall of Salemburg Baptist Church on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Women of the Church, Salemburg Baptist Church, P.O. Box 537, Salemburg, NC 28385.

WILLIAM D. SKIDMORE
CARY - William D. Skidmore, 75, died Thursday, February 25, 1999.
Mr. Skidmore was born in Mason County, WVa, and came to the Raleigh area in 1932.
He was the proprietor of Bill's Hardware & Garden Center, Cary.
Mr. Skidmore was a World War II Veteran of the US Marine Corps.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Pierce Skidmore; son, Col. Rick W. Rogers, USAF, and his wife Mary Lou of Omaha NE; daughter, Karen Brown and husband Kevin of Apex; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in South Hills Baptist Church with interment following in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Visiting hours are 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's St., Raleigh.
Flowers are welcomed, or memorials may be made to South Hills Baptist Church, 6400 Holly Springs Rd., Raleigh, NC 27606 or Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605.

MYRTLE SHEPHERD SWICEGOOD
RALEIGH - Myrtle S. Swicegood died Friday, February 26, 1999, at Springmoor.
Born September 30, 1903 in Robeson County, North Carolina, she was one of six children born to Rochellie Frink and Marshall Shepherd, all of which predeceased her.
She was married to Glenn M. Swicegood who died in 1978.
She leaves behind a son, Glenn M. Swicegood of St. Augustine, FL; a daughter, Nancy S. Reid, and a son-in-law, William E. Reid of Little Silver, NJ; three granddaughters, Kiley M. Swicegood at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, Tracy C. Reid of Atlanta, GA and Allison M. Reid of Portland, ME.
Mr. and Mrs. Swicegood lived in Kinston, Wilson, Raleigh, and Tarboro. She has been a resident of Springmoor Retirement Community since moving back to Raleigh in 1988.
The funeral service will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church Canterbury Road, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

ERMA ROBERTSON TYSON
RALEIGH - Erma Robertson Tyson, 83, of 1512 Summerville Circle, a retired Wake County school teacher, died Wednesday, February 24, 1999 at Raleigh Rehabilitation Center on Sunnybrook Road.
Funeral service will be conducted at the Martin Street Baptist Church on Monday, March 1, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Daniel Lilly, pastor of the Mitchell Baptist Church, Henderson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Interment takes place at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
Survivors include two sisters, Esther Crews of Wendell, Swannie Monroe of Fayetteville; brothers, Charlie, Claude, and Craven Robertson, all of Raleigh; special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Arrangements by Haywood Funeral Home.

LILLIE PITTMAN UNDERHILL
ANGIER - Lillie Pittman Underhill, 88, of 519 Black Pine Lane, died Friday, February 26, 1999 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, March 1, 1999 at Baptist Center Church, Clayton.
Burial, Baptist Center Church Cemetery, Ranch Road, Clayton.
Surviving: sons, Joseph Alfice Underhill of Angier, Carey H. Underhill Jr. of Pine Level; daughters, Marthie U. Dorman of Wendell, Mary R. Riternour of Fairfax, VA, Hettie U. Eason of Raleigh; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Underhill is preceded in death by: husband, Carey H. Underhill, children, Cora Lucy U. Autom, James William Underhill, Paul Albert Underhill; four grandsons.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home of Percell and Hettie Eason, 3735 Tarheel Club Road, Raleigh, NC or Joseph and Mary Underhill, 519 Black Pine Lane, Angier, NC.

LOIS GARRIS VICK
ROCKY MOUNT - Lois Garris Vick died Wednesday, February 24, 1999 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount following an extended illness.
She was born in Edgecombe County, daughter of the late John Mann Garris and Mary Elizabeth Garris.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Dorsey Vick Jr. in July 1998.
She is survived by her son William Dorsey Vick III and her sister, Hazel Garris Wooten; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Vick was a charter member of the Church of the Resurrection-Lutheran (now Trinity Lutheran Church) where she served her church faithfully as a member until her illness.
She was for many years a member of the church choir.
Having worked all her life, Mrs. Vick is best known for her many years in Ladies Ready-to-Wear, most notably at Carole Dress Shop and Bride's Room where she outfitted women and then their daughters.
Upon the closing of Carole's, she worked full-time at the family's restaurant, "Just What the Doctor Ordered" which she helped open in 1982.
She always greeted everyone with a smile and many with a hug.
Known affectionately by many as "Kuka" her life was a model of Christian commitment in service to her family and friends.
The light and joy she brought into so many lives will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 1999 at Johnson Funeral Home, Fairview Road, with the Rev. Don Safrit officiating.
Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Section 39.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Edgecombe-Nash Humane Society Building Fund, P.O. Box 1783, Rocky Mount, NC 27802-1783.

RUTH G. WALTON
RALEIGH - Mrs. Ruth Greene Walton, 71, of 4933 Hermitage Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999 at Rex Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Mrs. Greene was a retired employee of the NC Department of Public Instruction with over 30 years of service.
She is survived by her husband, John S. Walton; daughters, Carol Bradshaw of Cary, Cathy Allen and Dr. Betsy John Walton, both of Raleigh; brothers, Atlas Greene of Algonac, MI, Bobby Greene of Oxford; sisters, Sylvia Hanley and Marguerite Greene, both of Winston-Salem, Lucille Hebert of Dearborn Heights, MI; grandsons, John Charles Bradshaw, William Kevin Allen and Patrick Walton Umberger; granddaughters, Elizabeth Carol Bradshaw and Anne Catherine Allen.
Graveside funeral rites will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999 at Raleigh Memorial Park by Dr. J. David Day and Rev. Craig Troutman.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy V. Foundation for Cancer Research, 1201 Walnut St., Suite 202, Cary, NC 27511.

IDA MITCHELL WEBSTER
SELMA - Ida Mitchell Webster, 77, retired owner/operator of Selma Trading Post, died Thursday.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with burial in Crocker Cemetery.
Surviving are: her sons, Billy Ray Mitchell of Smithfield, John Belvin Webster Jr. and Danny Robert "Tom" Webster, both of Selma; daughter, Sylvia Kay Toole of Four Oaks; brother, Johnnie Mitchell of Goldsboro; half brother, Elijah Ray Taylor of Beaufort; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
