JAMES L. BICHSEL SR.
GREENSBORO -- Mr. James L. Bichsel Sr., of Greensboro, died Friday, March 5, 1999 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at West Market Street Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in New Philadelphia, Ohio.
A native of Ohio, Mr. Bichsel received his B.A. Degree from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio and his master of business administration degree from Ohio State University in Columbus.
He retired as chief executive officer of the North Carolina association of Realtors in April, 1996. He also served as president of the NCAR Foundation. Mr. Bichsel served as a director of the National Association of Realtors, Dean of the National Executive officers Institute and as chairman of the Executive Officers Committee. He was the 1991 recipient of the Magel Award of Excellent as the outstanding Real Estate Executive Officer in the United States. He was awarded the Professional Designation, C.A.E. (Certified Association Executive), by the American Society of Association Executives and served on the faculty of the Realtors Institute at UNC Chapel Hill. He was named realtor of the year by the North Carolina Association of Realtors, the highest honor given by the 20,000 member association and in 1996 was named to the NCAR Hall of Fame.
in 1995, he was appointed by the North Carolina Speaker of the House to a four-year term as a commissioner of the North Carolina Public Officers and Employees Liability Insurance Commission. He has served on the Business Advisory Counsel of the School of Business at East Carolina University. He was a director of the American Lung Association of North Carolina and was volunteer of-the-year in 1998 for the Greensboro Chapter.
Mr. Bichsel is survived by his wife; Ann T. Bichsel; daughter, Janet Bichsel of Greensboro; son, James L. Bichsel Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; sister,Virginia Bolender of Canton Ohio, and brother, Dr. Dale Bichsel of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Forbis & Dick North Elm Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to West Market Street United Methodist Church, 302 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC 27401; or the Greensboro Chapter of the American Lung Association, 3409-D W. Wendover Avenue, Greensboro, NC. 27407.

BESSIE HOWELL BRASWELL
BLACK CREEK -- Mrs. Bessie Howell Braswell, 85, of 200 Mercer St., died Friday, March 5, 1999 in Wilson Memorial Hospital. Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 1999 from Shingleton Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Billy Toler and Rev. Donnie Price. Interment will follow in Black Creek Cemetery.
She is survived by four daughters, Joan B. Crabtree and Betty B. Lucas, both of Elm City, Shirley B. May of Apex, Vickie B. King of Macclesfield; sons, Marvin Edwin Braswell and Clarence Linwood Braswell, both of Black Creek; sisters, Katie Howell Page of Elm City, Hettie Howell Page of Wilson; brother, Barry Junior Howell of Wilson; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Shingleton Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m. and other times at 209 Branch St.

JAMES L. CARLYLE
HILLSBOROUGH -- Mr. James L. Carlyle, 64, of 2602 NC Hwy 57, Hillsborough, died Friday morning at Durham Regional Hospital. Mr. Carlyle was born in Halifax County and was educated in schools there and at Braggtown School in Durham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Richard Carlyle, Sr. and Alice Mosley Carlyle.
He served in the US Navy for eight years. Mr. Carlyle had worked for NIEHS for eight years and managed Etna Service Station on Holloway Street in Durham for many years. He attended Andrews Memorial Baptist Church in Graham.
He was a devoted husband, a loving and caring father and a special Aw-Paw to his two grandchildren. He was an avid Duke Fan and loved fishing on the North Carolina Coast.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Rhew Carlyle; his daughter, Alice C. Terrell and her husband Franklin Terrell of Cedar Grove; grandchildren, Samantha Terrell and Travis Terrell; his stepmother, Leona Carlyle of Roanoke Rapids; and his aunt, Nellie Patrick of Richmond, VA; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham, Rev. Tommy Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery with active casket bearers being: Chris Ivey, Michael Frank, Danny Carlyle, Steve Janney, Richard Rhew and Phillip Rhew, Jr.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday evening at Clements Funeral Home in Durham

DAVID T. "TED" CARTER
SMITHFIELD -- Mr. David Theodore "Ted" Carter Sr., 60, of 74 Hillcrest Road, Smithfield, died Thursday at Rex Hospital.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Minshew Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in the Johnson Family cemetery. Rev. Ozzie Frank Raynor will officiate.
survivors: wife, Louise S. Carter; daughter, Kimberly Louise Johnson of Four Oaks; son, David Theodore Carter Jr. of Smithfield; sisters, Jewell C. Morris of Sanford, Brenda C. Day of Cary, Debbie C. Braswell of Raleigh; brothers, Perry S. Carter Jr. of Timberlake, Richard J. Carter of Raleigh; four grandchildren.

HALFORD H. COLEMAN
DUNN -- Halford Hartwell Coleman, 83, of Dunn, died Thursday at Wake Medical Center.
Funeral service Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Erwin. Burial in Erwin Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Stallings Coleman of the home; son, George Coleman of Erwin; three daughters, Ann Woodruff of Raleigh, Martha Richey of Pisgah Forest, Lynn Coleman of Richlands; four brothers, Ralph Dulion Coleman of Wilmington, Douglas Coleman of Harnett Manor, Lillington, Charles Coleman of Zebulon and Wayne Coleman of Greensboro; Charles Coleman of Zebulon and Wayne Coleman of Greensboro; two sisters, Inez McNeil of Broadway, Vernelle Whittington of Lillington; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Visitation Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at Price Funeral Home, Erwin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Erwin, P.O. Box 608, Erwin, N.C. 28339; or the charity of your choice.

LEON H. CORBETT
BURGAW -- Leon Henry Corbett, age 89, died Thursday, March 4, 1999 at Woodbury Wellness Center in Burgaw.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Burgaw Cemetery. Rev. Ray Mendenhall will officiate.
Mr. Corbett is survived by two sons, Leon H. Corbett, Jr. of Winston-Salem and Robert H. Corbett of Burgaw; four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Evie Williams Corbett in 1998.
Mr. Corbett graduated from Davidson College and attended Law School at Wake Forest University. He practiced law in Pender County for 40 years and was past president of the Pender County Bar, the 5th Judicial District Bar, and the North Carolina State Bar.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Burgaw Presbyterian Church, Davidson College, or Wake Forest University School of Law.

CHARLES M. ELLEN
NOV. 14, 1919 - MAR. 5, 1999
ANGIER -- Charles M. ELLEN, 79, of Route 2, Spence Road, died Friday at the VA Hospital in Durham.
He was the son of the late Walter and Katie Cates Ellen.
Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral chapel, Angier. Burial, Erwin City Cemetery, Erwin with Masonic rites.
Surviving: his wife of 23 years, Clara Barefoot Ellen; stepsons, Carl Wayne Cooper of Lewisville and Thomas Edward Cooper of Coats and three step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Griner of Wendell.
Visitation from 7-9 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier.
Flowers are acceptable or contributions may be made to the American Heart Assn.; 3901 Computer Drive, Raleigh, N.C. 27609.

MALISSIE HALL FAIRCLOTH
AUTRYVILLE -- Mrs. Malissie Hall Faircloth, 85, of Autryville, died Thursday, March 4, 1999 at Mary Gran Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Long Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Spell officiating. Burial will follow in the Joel Hall Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Buck G. Faircloth and a son, Mr. James H. Faircloth.
She is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Mr. Ron and Barbara Faircloth of Zebulon; sister, Mrs. Lillie Ella Horne of Autryville; brother, Mr. Otis B. Hall of Autryville; grandson, Matthew Faircloth of Zebulon.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7-9 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro and at other times at the home of Woodrow and Margie Hall, 2054 Silverton Road, Autryville, NC.

GEORGIE PILAND FULLER
RALEIGH -- Georgie Piland Fuller, 74, of 2100 Breeze Rd., died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Rex Hospital. Cause of death was lung disease complicated by muscular dystrophy with which she coped valiantly for over forty years. She was born in Hertford Co., the daughter of the late William Stephen Piland and Lena Eure Piland. She was a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church and the Townsend Couples Class for over 52 years.
Georgie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Hollis T. Fuller; two daughters, Linda Fuller Nava and husband, Ismael Nava of Brooklyn, NY, Susan Fuller Creasy and husband, John Creasy of Raleigh; sisters, Genevieve Tulloch of Laurel, DE, Annie Mathias and husband, Thomas Mathias of Murfreesboro, and Lena Ellen Eure of Harrellsville, N.C.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Zoe Jasper, Luke Jasper and Sarah Creasy and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 8, 1999, at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, Raleigh.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor after the service. Private burial at Raleigh Memorial Park will precede the service.

CHARLIE GATLING
SUNBURY -- Charlie Lassiter "Skip" Gatling, 62, of Hwy. 32, Sunbury, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at the Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. The funeral will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 1999 at the St. John African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Sunbury, the Rev. Willie Littlejohn, pastor will officiate. The burial will follow in the Gatling family Cemetery, Gatling Road, Sunbury.
Mr. Gatling was a retired shipbuilder at the Naval shipyard, Norfolk. A member of The Pride of Sunbury Masonic Lodge #401 where he held the position of secretary for several years, Ruth Chapter #598 Order of Eastern Star, a member of the St. John AME Zion Church, a member of the Stewards Board, a Sunday School class leader, member of the senior choir, male chorus and the St. John Gospel Singers, a member of the NAACP and other civic and church related organizations.
He is survived by his children, Tova, Chawanda (Richard), Keith (Helena) and Karl A. (Delores); grandchildren, Graham, Michael, Keith and Andrew, Mela, Nichole, Richard Andrew and Shanna; a devoted care giver, friend and companion, Edith Ray Holley; sisters, Cheryl and Joyce; several aunts and uncles; three nieces; two nephews; one great-niece; one great-nephew; a host of other relatives and friends.
The body may be views at the Creecy Funeral Home, Gatesville, Saturday, March 6, 1999 from 2-8 p.m. The family will receive friends at the residence where they will assemble one hour prior to the service in preparation for the funeral procession.
Arrangements are the Hamilton Funeral Chapel of Wilson.

O'DELL S. GAYE
FUQUAY-VARINA -- O'Dell Smith Gaye, 84, died Thursday, March 4, 1999. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 1999 at the Fuquay-Varina Presbyterian Church. Burial, Wake Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Gaye was preceded in death by her husbands, Wade Smith and Dale Gaye, and her son, Ralph Smith.
Surviving: daughter-in-law, Ruby Smith of Fuquay-Varina; grandson, Tony Smith and wife, Donna of Howell, New Jersey; granddaughter, Wendy Smith Howard of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Theresa, Andrew and Michael Smith all of Howell, New Jersey; sisters, Beatrice Watson of Sanford and Elizabeth Stephens of Yanceyville; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, March 6 at Thomas Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's Street, 4th Floor, Raleigh, N.C. 27605.

DOLLIE "PEE WEE" HARDISON
NORFOLK, VA -- Dollie "Pee Wee" Hardison, 88, passed away on March 3, 1999. Mr. Hardison was a member of the International Order of the Oddfellows, and Cedar Branch Baptist Church. He was an avid duck hunter and guide in Knotts Island for many years.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Agnes Hardison.
Survivors include: son, Dennis Walter Hardison, Sr. of Chesapeake; daughter, Frances Carol McCraken of Norfolk; grandchild, Dennis Walter Hardison, Jr.; many nieces and nephews.
A chapel service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday by the Reverend D.M. Hardison. Interment will follow to Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
