William Gideon Bodsford Jr.
William (Bill) Gideon Bodsford Jr., 69, of Denver died unexpectedly July 15. He was born June 26, 1937, in Forsyth County to the late William Gideon Bodsford Sr. and Sallie Myers Bodsford. He spent most of his life in Forsyth County, where he retired from Piedmont Airlines/U.S. Airways. He was a native of Lewisville and had spent the past eight years in Denver. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Bodsford, a brother and by two sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Connie Yates Bodsford; a son, Keith Dwayne Bodsford and wife Jane of Denver; a daughter, Dana Cummings and husband Jeffrey of Columbus, Ohio; a granddaughter, Erin; a brother, Norman Ray (Buck) Bodsford of Winston-Salem; and many animal friends.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

Margaret Pratt Smith
Margaret Pratt Smith, 68, of King died July 19 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 14, 1938, in Stokes County to Nathaniel Allen Pratt and Elvia Artaniza “Tannie” Lane. She was a member of First Christian Church of Christ of King. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dean Smith; her parents; three sisters, Hazel, Edith and Evaline; and three brothers, Otis, Earlie and June.
Surviving are a son, Randy Smith and wife Cathy of King; two grandsons, Cody Smith and Casey Smith of King; four brothers, Homer Jean Pratt and wife Louise of King, John Pratt and wife Dorothy of Pinnacle, Grady Pratt and wife Joann of Pinnacle and Delmar Ray Pratt and wife Ineida of King; four sisters, Essie Spainhour of Rural Hall, Avis Evola Bottoms of Pinnacle, Ernestine Boner and husband Richard of Clemmons and Frances Fulk and husband Alvin of Pinnacle; two sisters-in-law, Muriel Pratt of Pinnacle and Amy Pratt of Fletcher; a special niece and caregiver, Jane Bottoms of Pinnacle; a special niece and caregiver, Dawn Smith; a special cousin of the family and caregiver, Christi Watts; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at First Christian Church of Christ with Rev. Bill Truitt and Rev. Marshall Boyles officiating. Entombment followed at Smith Family Mausoleum.

Ellen Stevens Layton
Ellen Stevens Layton, 77, of Raleigh died July 21 at the Nursing Center at Oak Summit in Winston-Salem. She was born in Raleigh on February 14, 1929. She was preceded in death by Robert F. Layton, her husband of 52 years; and a sister, Doris Stevens Denning Foster. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Raleigh.
Surviving are two sons, Richard F. Layton of Lewisville and Timothy C. Layton of Youngsville; two daughters-in-law, Beth D. Layton of Lewisville and Jalenn S. Layton of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Adam Layton, Anna Layton and Daniel Layton of Lewisville; and Madalyn Layton of Raleigh; two brothers, A.G. Stevens of Cary and Ronnie I. Stevens and wife Nancy of Cary; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Leon and Betty Layton of Raleigh and Gilbert and Jessie Layton of Raleigh; and a longtime friend, Nancy Minor of Stoneville.
Funeral services were held at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh. Burial followed at Montlawn Memorial Park.

Virginia Peddycord Page
Virginia Peddycord Page, 84, of Winston-Salem died July 19 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born May 25, 1922, in Forsyth County to Carl and Lena Peddycord. Before owning Page’s Sports and Trophy Co., she was clerk to the county board of commissioners. She found joy in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald W.B. Page Sr.; and a sister, Hazel Thornton.
Surviving are seven children, Bill Page and wife Mary Nell of Pfafftown, Mike Page and wife Sharon of Advance, Rick Page and wife Julia of Rural Hall, Pat Dinkins and husband Mike of Clemmons and Debbie Norton and husband Don, Chuck Page and wife Gina and Sandy Page, all of Pompano Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Ramon Smith officiating. Burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.

Sandra Nix Hargette
Sandra Nix Hargette, 53, of Pffaftown died July 18 at her residence. She was born December 26, 1952, to Bill and Marie Nix. She worked as a registered nurse for over 30 years, but found her true love in 1990 when she came to work for The Oaks at Forsyth/Novant Health. In her16 years at The Oaks at Forsyth, she worked in various roles and was most recently the Staff Development clinician. She was certified in gerontology. She was a member of CSHET (Carolina Society for Healthcare Education and Training); NGNA (National Gerontological Nursing Association); and FCCCC (Forsyth County Clinical Coordinating Committee). She was co-owner of Pieces of Eden, a local business that trained staff throughout the southeast on teambuilding, recruitment and retention. She was also a member of the Novant Health Employee Activity Committee and served as co-chair of the organization’s United Way campaign for the 2004-2005 year. She was a 2004 “Remarkable 45 Nurse” and was nominated for the Great 100 three years in a row. She was preceded in death by her father.
Surviving are her husband, Joe A. Hargette Jr. of the home; her daughter, Jennifer Boyette; two stepchildren, Jennifer Hargette and Michael Hargette and wife Amy; her mother of Yadkinville; two sisters; Susan Tait and Shirley Wood and husband Mark; her father and mother-in law, Joe A. Sr. and Mary of Winston-Salem; nephews and nieces Zach, Andy, Amy Wood, Andrew and Johnathan Hargette; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Hargette and wife Jeannie.
A graveside service was held at Yadkin Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating.

Francis Joseph Garofalo
Francis Joseph Garofalo, 46, of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. died unexpectedly July 19. He was a former resident of Clemmons. He was born on April 20, 1960, in Beacon, N.Y., to the late James Edward Garofalo and Mrs. Lorraine DiGiovanni Garofalo Velez of Clemmons. He was an employee at Federal Express for 21 years, but was most recently employed by Olson and Associates. He was also an active member of Destiny Worship Center in Miramar Beach. He was a former member of Center Grove Baptist Church in Clemmons, where he had the vision for and led a dynamic children’s worship service where God used him to lead many children to the Lord. He also served in the deacon ministry and was a former vice chairman of the deacons. He also taught an adult Bible fellowship class for many years. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Victor DiGiovanni; and his paternal grandparents; James Garofalo Sr. and Evanette M. Garofalo.
Surviving are his wife, Madalane Mittasch Garofalo of the home; four sons, Ryan Joseph, Dylan Michael, Austin James and Cameron Anthony; and a daughter; Megan Elizabeth, all of the home; his stepfather; Jesus Velez of Clemmons; maternal grandmother Marion DiGiovanni of Beacon; a sister, Victoria Garofalo of Clemmons; four brothers; James Garofalo and wife Janis of Aurora, Colo.; Joseph Garofalo and wife Tammy of Wappinger Falls, N.Y.; Anthony Garofalo of Clemmons; and Michael Garofalo and wife Shannon of Powell, Tenn.; a stepbrother, Eric Velez and wife Michelle of Port Saint Lucie; a stepsister, Sharon Velez Finsteen and husband Koby of Israel; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Rick and Elaine Olson and family of Destin.
A celebration of life service was held at Destiny Worship Center in Miramar Beach.

Jimmie Russell Foltz
Jimmie Russell Foltz, 71, of Advance died July 19 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Forsyth County on May 14, 1935, to the late Clifford and Katie White Foltz. He retired from AT&T with 32 years of service. He was a former member of Grace Baptist Temple. He enjoyed the social functions at Faith Missionary Alliance Church with his wife. He was the owner and operator of Foltz Lawn Care and was a former member of the Forsyth Fowl Fanciers. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Parker; and stepson Greg Atkins.
Surviving are his wife, Cecelia; two daughters, Frankie Jo Lillard and husband Gary and Joan Dark and husband Garry, both of Winston-Salem; three stepchildren, Tony Atkins and wife Carrie of Jacksonville, Fla.; Teresa Jones and husband Archie of Raleigh; and Kelly Hoots and husband Dean of Clemmons; 15 grandchildren, Keith Lillard; Katie Bullins and husband Chad; Angie Lowry and husband Wes; Travis, Ashley and Allison Dark; Robby and Shannon Atkins; Tre, Jaime and Alicia Jones; Sara and Brad Hoots; Scott and Lauren Atkins; a great-grandchild, Jimmy Lillard; daughter-in-law, Alice Atkins; a sister, Rita Mosher and husband Dean; and a special nephew, Phillip Parker, with whom he shared his love of horses.
Funeral services were held at Faith Missionary Alliance Church with Rev. Michael Gates officiating. Burial followed at Westlawn Memorial Gardens in Clemmons.

James Leonard Dooley Sr.
James Leonard Dooley Sr., 78, of Winston-Salem died July 22 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born April 24, 1928, in Forsyth County to the late John Clarence and Callie Burcham Dooley. He retired in 1989 from AT&T with 38 1/2 years of service. He was a member of CWA Local 3060, the Telephone Pioneers and the Forsyth Fowl Fanciers.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Katherine, of the home; a daughter, Kathy Aldridge and husband Jeff of Clemmons; a son, James Dooley Jr. and wife Kelly of Welcome; two granddaughters, Julia Dooley and Tara Aldridge; a grandson, Justin Aldridge; and a sister, Leona Chatham of Pfafftown.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Dave Wood officiating. Burial followed in Arcadia United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Elzora Cooke Cunningham
Elzora “Doty” Cooke Cunningham, 95, died March 6 in Clemmons. A native of Forsyth County, she was born on January 26, 1912, to Carrie Belle Winfree Cooke and William Gene Guthrie Cooke. She had resided at 240 Hastings Drive for many years prior to her moving to Clemmons. She was a member of Kernersville First Baptist Church and was involved with several charities. She worked for the municipal government in Washington, D.C., and before retiring was employed by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Peace College in Raleigh. She was preceded in death by her son, William Enlow Cunningham.
Surviving are her sisters, Mary Ruth Korner of Winston-Salem, Carolyn C. Mock of East Greenwich, R.I., and JoAnne Cooke Whitney of Clemmons; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at Mount Gur Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Ruth Johnson Triplett
Ruth Johnson Triplett, 82, of Clemmons died March 8. She was born in Wilkes County on August 4, 1924, to Thomas Felix and Maudie Baldwin Johnson. She was a member of Cedar Forest Baptist Church and was retired from First Citizens Bank where she was a bank teller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Buel J. Triplett; two brothers, Arvil and Millard Johnson; two sisters, Eula Elledge and Larcie Walker; a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Rudder of Winston-Salem and Eula Dean Chambers and husband Eddie of Martinez, Ga.; a son, B. Stephen Triplett and wife Carolyn of Bermuda Run; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many close friends.
Funeral services were held at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Dr. E. Wilson Wahl and Dr. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park. Sherrly Lyvone Robinson
Sherrly Lyvone Robinson, 53, died March 4 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, born on December 2, 1953. The daughter of James Hall and Frances Robinson, she was a former employee of Forsyth Memorial Hospital for a number of years and Winston-Salem Convalescent Center. She was a member of Ministry for Christ Church.
Surviving are her three sons, Jamel Robinson, Demorris Robinson and Perry Robinson, all of Winston-Salem; a sister, Carolyn Davis and husband Jerry of Winston-Salem; and three brothers, Jonathan Robinson and wife Alfreda of Clemmons, Norman Robinson and Warren Robinson and wife Gail, all of Winston-Salem; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at Ministry for Christ Church with Bishop Andrea N. Nash officiating.

Edward William Holder
Edward William Holder, 77, of Lewisville died March 7 at his home. He was born August 23, 1929, in Forsyth County to Harvey Hampton and Clara Ellen Holder. He worked at Hanes Knitting for several years and was retired with 15 years of service in 1989 from Stroh’s Container Co. of Winston-Salem. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He was an avid gardener, loved NASCAR and was a big fan of Junior Johnson and later Jeff Gordon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Odell Holder, and by a nephew, Van Holder.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Doris Livengood Holder of the home; a daughter, Cindy Lu Holder of Pfafftown; his sister, Mildred Ellen Barker of Lewisville; his brother, Charles W. Holder and wife Peggy of Lewisville; and several special friends, including the friends at Whites Auto Sales.
Funeral services were held at Hanes Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Mac Warren and Charlie Lancaster officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Memorials may be made to either the Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; or to Hanes Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2821 Hanes Grove Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020.

Mable Davis Norman
Mable Davis Norman, 97, of East Bend died March 6. She was born in Yadkin County on December 17, 1909, to Malon and Isabelle Saunders Davis. She was a member of New Home United Methodist Church. She was a seamstress and made wedding gowns. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, James Alvis Norman and Foy Norman; a sister, Edna Davis Matthews; two brothers, Alva Davis and Carl Davis; sons-in-law, Joe Surratt Jr. and Nelson Rabb; and 11 half-brothers and sisters.
Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Surratt and husband Joe of Goldsboro, Eloise Rabb and husband Nelson of Clemmons and Nancy Norman and husband Allan of East Bend; a brother, Gertie Davis of East Bend; six grandchildren, Bonita Walker and husband Steve, Rex Norman and wife Gayle, James Norman and wife Robin, Pamela Surratt Gleason, Joseph Surratt II and Greg Surratt; 10 great-grandchildren, Amanda Lashmit, Sheena Norman, Daniel Norman, Wesley Norman, Nicholas Norman, Calvin Norman, Joseph Surratt III, Jeremy Surratt, Juliana Surratt and Jackie Pactrick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at New Home United Methodist Church with Rev. Patty Choplin officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mamie Cleary White
Mamie Cleary White, 96, died March 6 at Autumn Care of Mocksville. She was born June 23, 1910, in Iredell County to the late Jim and Robbie Smith Cleary. She retired from Heritage Furniture after 10 years of service. She had previously worked in the dietary department of Fran-Ray Nursing Home and had also been a seamstress at Monleigh Garment. She was a member of Friendship Calahaln Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and spending quality time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joshua F. White, on March 17, 2000; a daughter, Linda White, in 1947; a son, Don White, in 1987; and three brothers, Bob Cleary, Clyde Cleary and Hubert Cleary.
Surviving are two daughters, Janie White Dixon and husband O’Brien and Geraldine White Dwiggins and husband Clinard, all of Mocksville; two sons, Jerry White and wife Virginia and Mack White and wife Wanda, all of Mocksville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Flora Cleary of Mocksville and Hazel Bailey of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carroll Jordan and Rev. Alex Heafner officiating. Burial followed in Ijames Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery.

Douglas Richard Reifsnider
Douglas Richard Reifsnider, 55, of Advance died March 7 at Forsyth Medical Center after struggling with a serious illness for a year. He was born in Winston-Salem November 14, 1951. He was talented in art and skilled at woodworking and mechanics. As a teenager and young adult, he played the drums and was always fond of the blues, jazz, cars and good movies. He especially liked to garden. He also enjoyed long conversations with his grown children and the company of his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee and Edna Reifsnider.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Judy Reifsnider; his children, Matthew of Courtney, Jessica and husband Jeff of Advance, Sara of Advance and Samuel and wife Tara of Lewisville; a sister, Donna Murphy of Pittsboro; brothers, Dennis of Wilmington and David of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Alexandra, Kristopher, Cody, Sydney and Ethan; and three stepgrandchildren, Nicholas, Gray and Gage.

Monolia Everette Fulp
Monolia Everette Fulp, 75, of Kernersville died March 6 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on January 21, 1932, in Forsyth County, a daughter of Tom and Carrie Bluford Everette. She was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Bobby Thomas Fulp of the home; a daughter, Brenda Griffin and husband John Jr. of Kernersville; five sons, Jimmy Fulp and wife Brenda of Kernersville, Gerry Fulp and wife B.J. of Winston-Salem, Michael Fulp and wife Karen of Kernersville, Barry Fulp and wife Barbara of Oak Ridge and Todd Fulp and wife Rita of Winston Salem; six sisters, Catherine George of Yadkinville, Doris Smith of Kernersville, Mae Phipps and Zora Manring, both of Walnut Cove, Mary Rominger of Walkertown and Minnie King of Mocksville; a brother, Tom Everette of Clemmons; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel with Rev. David Neese officiating. Burial followed in Gardens of Memory at Walkertown.

Ward Davis Doub
Ward Davis Doub, 85, of Pfafftown died March 7. He was born December 11, 1921, in the Baltimore community of Yadkin County to Sanford Lafayette Doub and Sarah Ella Davis Doub. He served his country from 1942 to 1945 in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator in World War II. He was a member of U.S. Navy Patrol Bombing Squadron VPB-106. His crew was assigned to fly bombing and surveillance missions in the South Pacific. He was awarded the U.S. Navy Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as co-pilot of a patrol bomber plane for contributing “materially to the success of his plane and the infliction of extensive damage on enemy shipping during offensive patrols and strikes in the vicinity of Borneo, Indo-China and the Japanese Mainland.” He was a member of the East Bend American Legion. He was employed for 31 years by Piedmont Airlines and retired as a captain in 1981. He was a member of Doubs Chapel United Methodist Church where served on the administrative board and served as chairman. He sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school and served on the parsonage committee when the West Forsyth Charge undertook construction of a new parsonage. He was chairman of the committee to establish a permanent memorial to the founder of Doubs Church, Rev. John Doub, who was the first Doub to immigrate to America in 1773. He was an avid gardener, and for a number of years he raised Black Angus cattle. He was an athlete who enjoyed playing tennis. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Queen Inez Doub Phillips of Midland and Jennie Louella Doub Cornelius.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betty Jean Doub; his son, Judge Randy Davis Doub and wife Toni Susan Pegg Doub, and grandsons Alexander Wade Davis Doub and Jameson Anthony Edward Doub of Greenville; his daughter, Sara Jo Doub Cox and husband Edgar Lee Cox Jr. and granddaughters Allison Renee Cox and Robin Marie Cox of Dover, Del., and his daughter Leigh Ann Doub Smith of Winston-Salem; his sister, Martha Pearl Doub Logan of East Bend; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with full military honors with the VFW Memorial Honor Guard and American Legion Post 336 were held at Doubs Chapel United Methodist Church in Pfafftown with Rev. Richard Patzfahl and Rev. Dwight Cartner officiating. Memorials be made to the Doubs United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 542, Pfafftown, NC 27070 or the Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina, P.O. Box 127. Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450.

Walter Edwin Forman
Walter Edwin Forman, 84, of Yadkinville died March 7 at Forsyth Medical Center. Born November 29, 1922, in Dutches County, New York, he was the son of the late Edwin and Mary McGrath Forman. He was retired as a manufacturer’s represent-ative for the Tilley Ladder Co. and was of the Catholic faith. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie Marie Holland Forman; a son, Walter J. Forman of Cohoes, N.Y.; a daughter, Anne F. Saile of Niskayuna, N.Y.; a stepson, Vernon Hall and wife Brenda of Statesville; three stepdaughters, Edith Hall Madison and husband Raymond of Lewisville, Judy Hayne Ward and husband Gary of Emerald Isle and Karen Hall Talbot of Boca Raton, Fla.
Funeral services were held at the Mackie-Sinclair Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel with Rev. Dennis Shaw officiating.

William Thurman Tate Jr.
William Thurman Tate Jr., 68, formerly of Winston-Salem, died March 8 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. He was a former employee of Bahnson Co. in Winston-Salem and retired from Industrial Air, Inc. in Greensboro. After retiring, he fulfilled his dream of moving to the coast of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thurman Tate Sr. and Ollie Edith Hagans Tate.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Lowder Tate of Wilmington; a daughter, Tracee Stewart and husband James of Lewisville; a son, William Michael Tate and wife Christina of Wilmington; six grandchildren, Morgan and Ariana Stewart of Lewisville, Sean, Michael, Matthew and AJ Tate of Wilmington; and a sister, Judith Tate of Winston-Salem.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Ellenboro. Memorials may be made to West Forsyth High School Drama Dept. or Cheerleading Dept., 1735 Lewisville-Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012; or to First in Families of Southeastern North Carolina, 5041 New Centre Drive, Suite 109, Wilmington, NC 28403.

Kenneth Andrew Metz
Kenneth Andrew Metz, 85, of Silas Creek Manor died March 10 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Andrew Phillip Metz and Stella E. Metz. He was a retired employee of Chrysler Corp. and was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Metz.
Surviving are his nephew, Jerome Metz and wife Sheryl of Clemmons; and his niece, Kay Klobucar and husband Joseph of Colfax, Calif.

Carolyn Louise Fisher
Carolyn Louise Fisher, 65, of Clemmons died March 25 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born December 19, 1941, in Lake County, Ind., a daughter of Thomas Colin Marlowe and Louise Viola Dean Marlowe.
Surviving are her husband, Barry L. Fisher of the home; two daughters, Anne Sanchez and husband Victor of Walkertown and Teresa Flores and husband Benito of Elkhart, Ind.; two sons, Thomas Koenemann and wife Mandy of Gibsonville, and Kenneth Koenemann Jr. and wife Lottie of Crown Point, Ind.; three stepsons, Steven Fisher of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Richard Fisher and wife Janice of Crown Point, Ind., and David Fisher and wife Christy of Edwardsville, Ill.; two sisters, Barbara Haag and husband Joel of Ocala, Fla., and Kathy Mallory and husband Darrell of Crown Point, Ind.; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service was held.
