Paul Brantley Bare
Mr. Paul Brantley Bare, better known as Brantley, age 85, of Crumpler, NC died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bare was born on January 16, 1926 in Ashe County to Felix and Lola Taylor Bare. In addition to his parents Mr. Bare was preceded in death by brothers and sisters. Mr. Bare was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church. He served in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Bare retired from Hanes in 1989 after 29 years of service. He loved farming, fishing and gardening. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved spending time with his family. He was honest, gentle and kind and never had a harsh word for anyone.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 3:00 pm at the Welcome Home Baptist Church by Rev. Lonnie Jones & Rev. Darrell Bare. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm prior to the service.

Guy Wesley Walters
Mr. Guy Wesley Walters age 68, of Kings Mountain, formerly of Ashe County, died on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at his home. Mr. Walters was born June 4, 1942 in Ashe County, NC to Demspy and Mattie Goodman Walters. Mr. Walters was preceded in death by two brothers: Wade and Frank Walters. Mr. Walters was US Army veteran who was stationed in Germany for 3 years. Guy loved fishing, car racing and working on the farm.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Billy Joe Blevins. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Private family burial will be held at a later date in the Walters cemetery.

Margaret Medley
Mrs. Margaret Elaine Medley age 52, of Sparta, NC died on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta, NC. Mrs. Medley was born on December 1, 1958 in Baltimore, MD to Patrick and Joyce Doss Graham. Mrs. Medley was preceded in death by her mother.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Jefferson cemetery by Rev. Dean Shaw, Pastor Fred Greer, Pastor Kirby McNeill and Mark Medley.

Thelma Elizabeth Taylor
Mrs. Thelma Elizabeth Taylor, better know as Peach, age 71, of Lansing, NC died Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Taylor was born on August 1, 1939 in Chester, PA to Howard Franklin and Nonnie Osborne Howell. Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Taylor and daughter, Carmen Bass.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the Helton United Methodist Church by Rev. Peter Parish. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Dorothy Johnson
Mrs. Dorothy Cuthill Johnson age 82, of West Jefferson, NC died on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Margate Health & Rehab Center in Jefferson, NC. Mrs. Johnson was born on August 14, 1928 in Holyoke, MA to Frank and Janet Murdoch Cuthill. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Johnson.
Burial will be held in Salisbury National cemetery in Salisbury, NC at a later date.

Travis C. Wallace
Mr. Travis C. Wallace age 80, of West Jefferson, died on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. Mr. Wallace was born on April 8, 1930 in Amarillo, TX to Elmer F. and Sally Tyler Wallace. Including his parents Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by two brothers, his first wife, Beryl Allo Wallace. Mr. Wallace served in the US Army during the Korea Conflict. He was a member of The Jeffersons Rotary Club where he always enjoyed assisting with the annual fiddlers’ convention and he was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where he was a former member of the Men’s Club. Mr. Wallace worked in advertising and marketing most of his working career. Most recently he worked for Ashe County Transportation Authority and for Badger Funeral Home and Ashelawn Memorial Chapel & Gardens where he served families for over 15 years.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Bethany United Methodist Church by Rev. A. Owen Peeler. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Bethany United Methodist Church.
Mr. Wallace is survived by: Wife, Mildred Elliott Wallace, step son, Donald Edwards and wife Ann of Lenoir, NC, Brother, Don Wallace of TX, Grandson, Donald Edwards II, Granddaughter, Meredith Belk and husband Jody, Great Grandchildren, Barett Belk, Hayden Belk also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The family prefers that memorials be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 495 Hwy 194 South West Jefferson, NC 28694.

Lois Gainey Bare
Mrs. Lois Janet Gainey Bare age 80, of Jefferson, NC died on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Bare was born on April 17, 1930 in Florala, AL to James Buchanan and Pinkie Holman Gainey. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by daughter, Cindy Bare and sister, Doralene Gainey Stewart.
Prior to her retirement Mrs. Bare was a resident of Pensacola, FL where she served as the Secretary to the Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce. In 1969 she was awarded the honor of Secretary of the Year for the state of Mississippi. She was an active member of Warrington Baptist Church in Pensacola. In 1987 Lois and Bernard retired and moved to Ashe County where she served on the Executive Committee of Ashe Republican Party as well as holding the office of Ashe County Republican Party secretary for several years. She was an active member of the Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church and served in many church activities. She was a member of the Gideon International Auxiliary, Ashe North Camp and served in many capacities of this ministry. Lois enjoyed watching and feeding the wild birds. She will long be remembered for her zeal, commitment and service to the organizations and agencies which she promoted.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church by Rev. Art Eaton, Rev. David Blackburn, Rev. Roger Newton & Rev. Tim Riley. Burial will follow in West Jefferson City Municipal cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel.

Tony Paul Patrick
Mr. Tony Patrick age 32, of Jefferson, NC died on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Sunset Beach, SC. Mr. Patrick was born on October 23, 1978 in Ashe County, NC to Leroy and Nancy Patrick Ellison. Mr. Patrick was very kind hearted and loved his family.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 5:00 PM at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bill Miller. Burial will follow in Potter - Mains cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

Donnie Ray Shatley
Mr. Donnie Ray Shatley age 60, of Hays, NC died on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. Mr. Shatley was born on January 10, 1951 in Ashe County, NC to Arnold Grant and Betty Turner Shatley. Mr. Shatley was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Shatley was a US Army veteran who served in the Vietname War in the 82nd Airborne. He enjoyed fox hunting and the outdoors.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Eddie Brackett and Rev. Jeff Dollar. Burial will follow in Howell Hill cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service.
