Charles Myron Glaspey
Mr. Charles Myron Glaspey, age 85 of Jefferson, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Colonial Hills Nursing Home in Knoxville, TN. Mr. Glaspey was born January 29, 1924 in Cumberland County, NJ to the late Arthur and Mattie Corliss Glaspey. Mr. Glaspey was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church. He enjoyed helping with the church’s food pantry. He loved gardening, wood carving and bluegrass music.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Badger Funeral Home by Rev. Dr. Keith Franklin. The family will receive friends from 2:00 3:00 PM prior to the service.

Edward Lee Roark
Mr. Edward Lee Roark, age 94 of West Jefferson, NC died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at his home. Mr. Roark was born April 23, 1915 in Ashe County to the late Harvey and Susie Bare Roark. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Blanche and daughter, Ruby Mates.. Mr. Roark was a member of Round Knob Baptist Church. He was a farmer all of his life and loved working with his bees and gardening. He worked for Phoenix Chair Company and later retired from Thomasville Chair Company.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jack Pugh and Rev. Ralph Smith. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from
6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, Dec. 15th at Badger Funeral Home.

Charles Boggs

Mr. Charles Royce Boggs age 93 of West Jefferson, NC died Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Margate Health and Rehab Center. Mr. Boggs was born May 15, 1916 in Ashe County to the late Roger and Ollie Miller Boggs. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife: Dora Witherspoon Boggs, two daughters: Myrtle Miller and Tottie Jones. Mr. Boggs was an honorable man, loved and respected by many. He was a hardworker who never left anything undone. He also loved fishing. He was a WWII veteran.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Carl Witherspoon and Rev. Shane Golds.
Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, Dec. 15th at Badger Funeral Home.

Robert Finney
Mr. Robert S. Finney, age 77, of Glendale Springs, NC and Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away Dec. 10, 2009. Born in Newark, NJ, the son of Ira J. and Natalie Pomrenk Finney, now deceased, and predeceased by his brother Donald G. Finney, he leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Kathryn Ruth Finney, his wonderful daughter and son in law Kathryn R. and John A. Georgiou, two devoted grandchildren, Thomas L. Burndrett, Jr. and Kathryn R. Burndrett, two beautiful grand boys, Lorcan L. Burndrett, and Gabriel A. Burndrett, as well as several brother’s and sister’s in law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Finney had a very accomplished life. He served in the USNR, was a charter boat captain and owned a fleet of 3 vessels along with his father and brother out of Atlantic Highlands Basin Roselle, NJ, as well as his own 36 foot cabin cruiser, Secret Woman. He graduated with highest honors from both Brevard Community College, Cocoa, FL (Associate Arts) and University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL (Bachelor Science Zoological Studies). He retired from Pan American World Airways, was a world traveler having visited over a dozen countries, Real Estate Broker, avid fisherman, hiker, voracious reader, and beach go-er. He especially loved the mountains of the High Country, here in NC. Mr. Finney was widely known for his love of the oceans, rivers, animals, and wildlife. In lieu of flowers, cards, and other memorials, the family requests donations in his memory to either of the following organizations:

Herman Dean Rupard
Mr. Herman Dean Rupard, age 70 of Whitetop, VA, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at his home. Mr. Rupard was born June 4, 1939 in Grayson County, VA to the late Pierce and Mecie Ham Rupard.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the Whitetop Baptist Church by Rev. Joey McClure and Rev. Ervin Hart. Burial will follow in the Byers cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 -2:00 PM prior to the service.

Robert Henry Elliott
Mr. Robert Henry Elliott age 73 of West Jefferson died Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Elliott was born in Ashe County on June 30, 1936 to the late Carl and Pearl Pennington Elliott. Including his parents he was preceded in death by, his step-mother Gwyn Elliott and one brother, Ronnie Elliott.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 3pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Glenn Woodie. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military Rites. The family will receive friends from 1-3pm prior to the service.
Mr. Elliott is survived by, his wife, Ellen Sullins Elliott, one son, Robert Michael Elliott of Georgia, two brothers, Roger Elliott and Roy Elliott of West Jefferson, four sisters, Ruby Adkins of Jefferson, Retha Roark of Statesville, Ruth Roten of Millers Creek, Rita Lynn Elliott of Jefferson, one grandson, David Robert Elliott and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Thomas "Tom" Grubb
Mr. Thomas Alexander Grubb, better know as Tom, age 75 of Todd, NC died Friday, December 4, 2009 at Watauga Medical Center. Mr. Grubb was born April 10, 1934 in Ashe County to the late William and Anna Lou Stephens Grubb. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by three brothers: Burl, Ervin and Reece Grubb.
Tom was a loving husband to Rita W. Grubb for 54 years. He was a devoted father to six children. Tom first worked as a sawmiller but spent the remainder of his life in construction work and was known for his talents in masonry.
He was a faithful member and trustee of Baldwin Community Church. His involvement in the church included serving as Sunday school teacher, song leader and board member. Tom lived his life devoted to Christ and was willing to do anything to bring upbuilding to God's kingdom.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Baldwin Community Church by Rev. Randy Peters, Rev. David Grinnell and Rev. J. D. Walton. Burial will follow in the Bethany cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Saturday, December 5th at Badger Funeral Home.

Hazel Starnes
Mrs. Hazel Moretz Starnes, age 79 of Fleetwood died Wednesday, December 2, 2009. Mrs. Starnes was born November 19, 1930 in Ashe County to the late Joseph and Alice Houck Moretz. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Odell Starnes. Hazel was a member of Big Flatts Baptist Church. Hazel lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed.

Miss Jaci Linn Adrian age 29 of Lansing died Saturday, November 28, 2009. Jaci was born December 9, 1979 in Brooklyn, New York.

Ennis Parsons Wyatt
Mrs. Ennis Parsons Wyatt age 92 of West Jefferson, NC died Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Wyatt was born September 29, 1917 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Albert and Rebecca McGuire Parsons. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a son, Gwyn Parsons.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jesse Cox and Rev. Todd Brewer. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM prior to the service.
