Alma Lewis
Mrs. Alma Owens Craft Lewis age 86 of Purlear formally of Ashe County died Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Avante Care Center in Wilkesboro. Mrs. Lewis was born April 2, 1922. She was preceded in death by her mother, Febie Owens; infant daughters: Ruth and Gladys and son; Clarence Craft.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Johnny White, Rev. Ronnie Bumgarner, Rev. David Sheelor and Rev. Wayne Craft. Mrs. Lewis will lie in state 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Riverview Primitive Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 1st at the Church of God Union Assembly in North Wilkesboro.

2 daughters: Alice Faye Osborne of Crumpler, NC & Audrie Gaye Eller of Wilkesboro, NC

Earl R. Konschak
Earl R. Konschak, West Jefferson, NC passed away June 27, 2008.
Earl was born to Hazel and Reynold Konschak on July 12, 1921 at Millville, New Jersey. He married Alice M. (Peggy) Davis on September 7, 1941. Our father served in the US Army Air Corps 5th Air Forces Division from 1942 through 1945 with 39 months in the Pacific. His greatest loves were his family, his country, Harley Davidson motorcycles and classic vehicles.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, his sister, Dorothea Smith of Florida, three daughters, Kimberlee Goodwin (Micheal) of Newfield, NY, their two daughters, Melissa and Taryn and husband Branigan, Robyn Krider (Marlin) of Todd, their two daughters Kelly and Katrina, Bonnie Konschak (Fran Lawrence) of Missoula, MT and by many close friends who love him and miss him very much.
Memorials in Earl’s name can be made to any veteran’s organization or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

James Michael Taylor
Mr. James Michael Taylor better known as Mike age 53 of West Jefferson, NC died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mr. Taylor was born February 18, 1955 in Ashe County to James Fred and Mable Bower Taylor. He was preceded in death by his father. He was an avid bowler in Boone, Wilkes and Ashe Counties. Mike enjoyed working with gemstones and giving them to his friends. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved music and made CD’s for a lot of people.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Badger Funeral Home.

Anna Testerman
Mrs. Anna Jean Johnson Testerman, age 72 of Lansing, NC died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at NC Baptist Hospital. Mrs. Testerman was born January 26, 1936 in Ashe County to the late David and Hattie Bare Johnson. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by four brothers; Henry, Herbert, Tom and Herman Johnson and three sisters; Ola Brooks, Mary Lee Blevins and Blanche Johnson. Mrs. Testerman attended Landmark Baptist Church and services held at Margate Health and Rehab Chapel. She loved animals especially cats.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day and Minister Danny Miller. Burial will follow in the Brooks cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

John Weaver
Mr. John Weaver, age 81 of Warrensville, NC, died Monday, June 16, 2008 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Weaver was born April 14, 1927 in Ashe County to the late D. D. and Ida Ashley Weaver. Mr. Weaver married Virginia Testerman on January 11, 1951. Mr. Weaver was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He read the bible through 19 times and loved being in church and with his family. He was a good musician and taught his children to play. He also served his country in the US Army. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Pleasant View Baptist Church by Rev. Dwight Shepherd, Rev. Jim Francis and Rev. Max Weaver. Burial will follow in the Weaver cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at Badger Funeral Home.

Floyd Scott
Floyd Franklin Scott died Monday, June 16, 2008, in his home in West Jefferson, Ashe County, NC. Floyd was born September 29, 1926 in Ashe County, to Waddie Hester Scott and Ethel Houck Scott, the sixth of eight children. He grew up in Boone, NC where he met Addie Bingham who he subsequently married in November of 1943 in Baltimore, MD. They were together for 56 years until her death in April of 2000. Floyd is survived by his sister: Maude Scott Miller, his children: Carol Travis, Sharon Scott, and Steven Wayne Scott (wife, Robin), his grandchildren: Jason Lewis, Shannon Lewis Hilliard (husband, Jason), Joel Travis, Scott Travis (wife, Reane), Nathan Scott, Joe Scott, Aaron Scott, Logan Scott, Rachel Scott, and great-grandchildren: Grant Hilliard and Ryan Hilliard. He is also survived by his second wife of 3 years, Margie Scott, whom he married in February of 2005 his step children, Larry Scott, Steven G. Scott, Cathy Scott and Diane Absher. Floyd often stated that his best, true friend in life was the late Clyde Howell, originally of Ashe County.
Floyd moved to Baltimore, MD for employment at the age of 16. Floyd served in the US Navy during World War II. After the war he graduated from Appalachian High School and attended two years at Appalachian State Teachers College, both in Boone, NC. He worked primarily in the aerospace manufacturing industry, in Baltimore and Philadelphia in the fields of inspection, planning and quality control. Floyd had many interests and hobbies and pursued these with the same attention to quality as in his work. Throughout his life he was active in the church serving in many capacities including Sunday school teacher and superintendent.
Visitation at Badgers Funeral Home, West Jefferson, NC on Wednesday, June 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and funeral services at Zion Methodist Church, Todd, NC on Thursday, June 19 at 2:00 pm.

Cleo Bare
Mrs. Cleo Bare, age 86 of North Wilkesboro, NC died Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bare was born January 7, 1922 in Ashe County to the late James and Dottie Sheets Wyatt. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death her husband; Cecil Bare and daughter: Maxine Bare.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 4 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home by Rev. Bud Shepherd. Burial will follow in the Roans Creek cemetery. Mrs. Bare will lie in state one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Four sons: Frank Bare and wife Shelia and Cecil Bare both of North Wilkesboro, David Bare and wife Vicky of West Jefferson and Billy Bare and wife Linda of Jefferson
Four daughters: Jenny Blevins and husband Bob of Jefferson, Mary Lou Bare, Martha Ann Minton, and Carol Joan Bare and husband Bill of North Wilkesboro.
Four brothers: Roy Wyatt of Jefferson, J.B. Wyatt of Whiteford, MD, Carl Wyatt of Maryland & Bernard Wyatt of Jefferson.
Two sisters: Fannie Taylor of Jefferson & Shirley Gentry of Jefferson
12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Carroll Roten
Mr. Carroll Dean Roten, age 72 of Laurel Springs, NC died Thursday, June 12, 2008 at NC Baptist Hospital. Mr. Roten was born May 22, 1936 in Maryland to the late Rodney and Hettie Viers Roten.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 Sunday at the Peak Creek cemetery by Rev. Jerry Roten, Rev. Arlie Roten & Rev. Elliott Osowitt. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday at Badger Funeral Home.
