WARRENTON -- Vance Hargrove, 65, formerly of Warren County, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in Southhill, Va.

Myrtle F. Hart
RALEIGH -- Myrtle Farrell Hart, age 97, formerly of 3318 Clark Ave., Raleigh, N.C. died Wednesday, October 4, 2000 at her home on Lake Gaston, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Sunday October 8, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh. A visitation will be held after the funeral service in the church parlor. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh at 4 p.m.
Mrs. Hart was born in Chatham County, N.C. on October 3, 1903 to John Thomas and Mary Belle Wilson Hart. She was a charter member of Forest Hills Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband Miles Ivan Hart, Sr., and a great granddaughter, Ashley E. Hart.
She is survived by: her son, Miles Ivan “Skip” Hart, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Lake Gaston, N.C.; three grandchildren, Miles “Ivan” Hart III and his wife Jeanie of Wake Forest, N.C., Caroline H. Allen and husband Jimmy of Raleigh, N.C., and Mary Dennis Fogleman and husband Bill of Lake Gaston, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, James and Thomas Allen and Candice and Dennis Fogleman.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Forest Hills Baptist Church, or to The Ashley Elizabeth Hart Memorial Endowment c/o The Baptist Foundation, 201 Convention Dr., Cary, N.C. 27511.

Israel L. Hinton Sr.
HENDERSON -- Israel Lee Hinton Sr., 61, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Wadesboro.

NORLINA -- Howitt Meater Carter, 74, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000.

Susie ‘Big Sue’ Hargrove
HENDERSON -- Susie “Big Sue” Hargrove, 101, of 209 Tungsten Mine Road, Townsville, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at her residence.
She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Charlie and Lillie Scott.
She joined Mt. Zion U.C.C. and was a member of the Missionary Circle.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ by the Rev. Hurley Richardson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are four daughters, Mary Valentine of Elizabeth, N.J., Annie Champion of Townsville, Sallie Wilkins of Henderson and Susie Small of the home; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 42 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
The body will be on view at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service until taken to the church one hour before the service.
There will be no wake and family will receive friends at the residence.
Vance Hargrove
WARRENTON -- Vance Hargrove, 66, formerly of Warren County, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in Southhill, Va.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Burchette Chapel U.C.C. in Manson. The Rev. Reginald Harris will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving is one sister, Ruth Seward of Palmer Springs, Va.

Israel L. Hinton Sr.
WADESBORO -- Israel Lee Hinton Sr., 61, of Wadesboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at the Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews. He was a Vance County native and the son of Mae Willie Johnson Hinton and the late Thomas Hinton.
He was an employee for Douglas Airport in Charlotte.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Welcome Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Jimmy Johnson. Burial will follow in the Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Willie Mae Hinton of Wadesboro; one son, Israel Lee Hinton Jr. of Wadesboro; his mother, Mae Willie Hinton of Roxbury, Mass.; four sisters, Alice Perry, Dorothy Kearney, both of Henderson, Betty Condry of High Park, Mass., and Zelma Hinton of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Thomas Hinton and Charles Hinton, both of Boston, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friend at the residence of Dorothy Kearney, 91 Little Mill Road in the Gillburg community.
The body will be on view at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service until taken to the church one hour before the service.
Susie P. Ward
RICHMOND, VA. -- Susie Person Ward, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Richmond, Va.

Mae Glover Bowlin
HENDERSON -- Mae Glover Bowlin, age 85, a resident of 4635 Old Watkins Road, died
Thursday in a local nursing home. She was a native of Vance Co. and was the daughter of
the late Melvin Dorsey and Jennie Greenway Glover. She was the widow of David Hugh
Bowlin, and was a member of the Peace's Chapel Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 7, 2000 at 2 p.m. in the Peace's Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Tony Futtrell. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Miss Etta Gooch Bowlin of the home and Mrs. Mary Alice
B. Stanley, of Henderson; one sister, Mrs. Ella Gooch G. Rowell of Henderson; two grandchildren, Sherie Ayscue Long and David Winston Ayscue and wife Andrea Hall Ayscue, four great grandchildren, Mary Amanda Long, Justin Harold Long, Cameron George Long and Logan Hall Long. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Cynthia G. Currin and Bevelyn G. Jones; two brothers A.D. Glover and Edmond Glover.
Serving as active Pall Bearers were: Bernie Long, Tony Forsythe, Sam Parsons, Wayne Woody, Billy Currin, Butch Edwards, Rencher Moore and Craig Steppe.
The family received friends Friday night at the home at 4635 Old Watkins Road.

Adam J. Bullock
HENDERSON -- Adam Jahluv Bullock, son of Karen Hicks and Adam Bullock, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Duke Medical Center.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his maternal grandmother, Fannie Hicks of Henderson; his paternal grandparents, Curtis Butch Gray and Joyce Harris; and one sister, Iviante Hicks of the home.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Blacknall cemetery.
The family will be at N.C. 39 South Loop Road 2014.

Howitt Meater ‘Tot’ Carter
NORLINA -- Howitt Meater “Tot” Carter, 74, of Rosewood Village Apartments, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center. He was a Warren County native and the son of the late William Newell Carter and Mary Frances Smelley Carter.
He was a member of Norlina United Methodist Church and the Warren County Eagles Club.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Norlina United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Warren Dale cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy C. Paschall of Ridgeway; three sons, Wayne Carter of Norlina, Mike Carter of Rocky Mount and Bob Cater of Norlina; three sisters, Anne C. Gragg of Saw Mills, Margaret C. Thomas of Henderson and Nell C. Stallings of Henderson; two brothers, C.E. “Chief” Carter of Norlina and I.W. “Jim” Carter of Arlington, Va.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Norlina United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 62, Norlina, N.C. 27563.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home. All other times, they will meet at Nancy C. Paschall’s residence, Rt. 1, Ridgeway-Warrenton Road.

Mark A. Alston
HENDERSON -- Mark Anthony Alston, 34, of 322 Gun Club Road, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000. He was a Vance County native and the son of Kelly Sr. and Marinda White Alston and Richard Hargrove.
He was a graduate of Vance Senior High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1984-1988.
He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where the funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today by Dr. Richard Henderson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Terry Hanks Alston; two sons, Isman D. Alston and Jordan M. Alston; one daughter, Jamea M. Alston; his grandmother, Addie Hargrove; one sister, Kelita Jones of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, Kelly L. Alston Jr. of Greensboro.
The family received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Manson. They will receive friends all other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Ercell Williams, Derek Alston, Julius Bullock, Sidney Townes Jr., Darnell Edwards, Kassius Hargrove, Clarence White Jr., and Christopher Brown.

Alene S. Currin
OXFORD -- Alene Slaughter Currin, 81, of the Grassy Creek community, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Durham Regional Hospital. She was a Person County native and the daughter of the late Gus and Fatima Stanfield Slaughter. She was the widow of J. Howard Currin.
She was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Randy Carter. Burial will be in Hester Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Jean C. Tilley of Oxford; two sons, James H. Currin Jr. of Grassy Creek and Cecil B. Currin of Hadley, Mass.; three sisters, Alma Moore of Portmouth, Va., Lizzie Whitlow of Allensville, Virginia Bunn of Charlotte; a brother, Horace Slaughter of Allensville; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford and at other times at 8723 Grassy Creek Road, Bullock.

Lois Imogene ‘Jean’ Faulkner
HENDERSON -- Lois Imogene “Jean” Faulkner, age 72, a resident of 2625 Oxford Road, died Sunday in Franklin Regional Hospital in Louisburg.
She was a native of Franklin County and was the daughter of the late James Kade and Lois Poythress Spencer. She was a housewife and was a member of the Gillburg United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Gillburg United Methodist Church by the Rev. Clyde Faulkner and the Rev. Pam Gilliam. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband Henry T. Faulkner of the home, two sisters Joyce Pernell of Warrenton, and Faye Spencer of Louisburg, two brothers Ernest Taylor Spencer of Louisburg and James Spencer of Kittrell.
Active pallbearers will be Pete Pernell, Ronnie Spencer, Daryl Spencer, Jimmy Faulkner, Jason Faulkner, Gary Stainback, Danny Stanton, C.W. Faulkner and Mike Dawson.
The family will receive friends Monday night at the J.M. White Funeral Home from 7 until 8:30. At other times they will be at the home.

Hannah W. Harris
TARBORO -- Hannah Wharton Harris, 68, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood cemetery with Dr. Edward Gunter officiating.
She was a teachers aid for 20 years in the North Carolina School System, a volunteer for Heritage Hospital and Meals on Wheels, and a member of the Tarboro Womans Club.
Surviving are her husband, Edward A. Harris; two daughters, Lesa Deeker of Overland Park, Kan., and Kathy Benedyk of Raleigh; two sons, Edward A. Harris Jr. of Easley, S.C., and Joseph A. Harris of Creedmoor; two brothers, J.T. Wharton of Newport News, Va., and Edward Earl Wharton of Black Mountain; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 211 St. James St., Tarboro; Hospice of Edgecombe County, 2213 St. Andrews St., Tarboro; or the American Cancer Society.

Alma S. Matthews
OXFORD -- Alma Setzer Matthews, 90, of 104 Roxboro Road, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Brantwood Nursing Center in Oxford. She was a Wilkes County native and the daughter of the late George M. and Minnie Laws Setzer and the widow of Steve Matthews.
She was a member of Knotts Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Burlington Industries and Murdoch Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Cam Ford. Burial will be in Knotts Grove cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Dorothy M. Newton of Oxford; a son, A.D. Matthews of Oxford; a sister, Docia Riggan of Graham; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home of Dale and Jayne Elliott, 7141 Hwy. 15 North, Oxford.

James McKoy
HENDERSON -- James McKoy, 49, of 825 Nicholas St., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Chapel in Henderson by the Rev. Richard Batts. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Roselyn Wallace of Henderson and Alecia McKoy of Columbia, S.C.; three sisters, Janice McKoy, Delores McKoy and Ella McKoy, all of Henderson; two brothers, Clinton McKoy and Henry McKoy, both of Henderson; and two grandchildren.
Jasper Thomas Parrott
Henderson -- Jasper Thomas Parrott, age 7 a resident of 492 S. Stratford Dr. died Sunday Oct. 8, 2000 in Duke Medical Center. He was the son of Ronald Thomas and Mitzi Collier Parrott.
He was a native of Vance Co. and was a second grade student at Kerr Vance Academy. He was a member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Burgess. Entombment will be in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his maternal grandparents Betty Jean and William Richard Collier of Henderson, paternal grandparents, Lucy Wiggins and James A. Parrott, Jr., of Henderson, maternal great grandmother Annie Mae Fuller of Henderson, maternal great great grandmother Mae Ayscue Stainback of Henderson, two aunts Donna Collier Phelps and husband Jerry, Wendy Collier Hogge and husband Larry all of Henderson, one uncle James “Jim” D. Parrott and wife Mary Ann of Henderson, four cousins Whitney C. Abbott, Jordan P. Hogge, Dixon C. Parrott and Harley M. Parrott.
